What’s the Relationship between Money, Blog Comments and True Love?

March 11, 2010 - Last Modified: February 14, 2013 by Hesham Zebida

money_comments_love

There is a very strong relationship between Money and Blog commenting that I would like to talk about first, I have just discovered this connection because I can see the number of interactions on our posts is going down some times, specially after we stopped the cash motivation when we decided not to do more blog commenting contests again, is this true?!

Nobody can Not buy love!

Anyways! I am not thinking to start any new commenting contests in the future, that was before, but now I am completely confident that YOUR comment worth more than money, commenting is more like love, you can not buy it, and you can not pay for it!

So, I am trying hard to develop ideas for more powerful contests like our Guest Blogging Contest we are running this month which will a ward writers for their real and big efforts.

I had enough from “Thanks you” and “Call me plz!” comments type, I really want to stop it for ever, I will do this only if I have a good relationship with the person I am commenting on his/her blog, at least not on my first visit to your blog.

Comments for Better Blogging

I really want to create quality content from blog comments because I am sure that everyone visit a blog will take a look and read a few comments before leaving, and there is some great tips which add a real value to the original posts in the comment section of respectful blogs all the time!

So plz, if you have value to add to our posts by commenting on them plz do it and you will gain our respect, and if you don’t then…

No Money can buy a true Comment

Don’t do it for Money! Blog commenting is not about money, although I know and you know that some sites owners pay for it, they hire someone to do it on blogs on their niche, so they do paid comments… what else they can do?! mmm.. Well.. You tell me about something they don’t sale and buy online these days! Anyways it’s not only about money, trust me!

The Hate in Comments – very short story!

I received a very offending feedback yesterday from the best kind 🙂 , it was from a very mad person, I don’t know him and I didn’t bother because I only got his IP address, so.. anyways, he said bad words to me because he was here to add a comment to get a backlink, and when he discovered that FamousBloggers.net is not a DoFollow blog (this is what he thought) then he got so mad that he added an offending comment!

By the way I don’t get offended and reply back most of the times because I am trying to deal professionally with any comment (as much as I can!) But this person is a spammer! What I will do to make him happy?! Actually I will do nothing.

Removing DoFollow?

I am telling everybody again, I am setting the NoFollow plugin to remove the nofollow tag after quite good number of comments, I will not remove it from the first time you add a comment here, I will also not approve your first one unless I read it first and make sure you are a trusted person and not a spammer!

I do this to stop spammers, and guarantee to give love to only people who deserve it, it’s for our blog readers and regular commentators, they are the ones who will get the benefit from being around more often, it’s not a hit and run! It’s a relationship that has two sides.

Benefits of commenting on other blogs

There is lots of benefits from commenting on other blogs, it’s more than just a back link, DoFollow or what ever, trust me on this because I do lots of comments while blogwalking, I comment here and there, and I have a technique for for doing it also like you, so I am going to share with you and tell you about some important reasons of why I personally interact with other blogs as a blogger and as a reader, and you will know now about 7 reasons why I comment on YOUR blog!

Why I personally comment on YOUR blog?

1- Add a value to the original post

I some times find a post that need something, or missed a point, probably it would be the best thing I do if I added some more information related to the topic and server the writer of that post! I mean what not help others?!

2- Ask a question or give feedback

Probably I would prefer if someone is asking a question on a post or giving his feedback, I love that and I am ready to answer all your questions if I have a good answer, and in case I don’t have the right answer I will simply tell you that I don’t know, I am not shy of that! I am not shy of the truth! so.. add your question if you have one, just make sure it’s related to the topic, I give high priority for questions!

And I am always asking questions when I really.. really need to find information about something and from the other side it’s good for the post it self to get an answer for my question attached to it!

3- Start a comment conversation?

If I really like your post, and you have something unique like an idea, and you know what you are talking about, I will not even think before adding my opinion to your post, and I will start a conversation this time, means I will return to see what’s up!

4- To Deliver a promotional message

I can not deny this, I some times do it after publishing an important post and want to spread out the word about it, so I choose some certain CommentLuv enabled blogs to send my message depending on the latest posts on those blogs, and I start commenting on them and add my latests post link because I think blogs owners will like to visit, and probably their readers will like to click on it, usually I promote blog post I comment on by tweet about them!

5- I Comment because You Comment

Just in case you think you are doing me a favor and you are waiting for return, maybe when I have time I will visit and comment back! And if I don’t have anything to say then probably I will try to dig for something interesting on your posts to share on Twitter!

6- I do it because I like your blog and content

I will not only add a comment on your posts, I will promote it, and maybe I will advertise my blog on it!

7- Because I like YOU!

And I have a good online or offline relationship with you, maybe we are friends, or probably we work together to enhance our blogs, and this is why we have so many things in common, so I help you out with all my power!

Are you thinking to add a comment?!

Now you know why I personally interact with other blogs and bloggers, so plz don’t sell your comments for a cheap price!

There is no doubt that leaving comments can build genuine relationship. I started leaving comments on Social Media Today, we built relationship thru' commenting on blogs, invite them to connect on Linkedin and start working on projects. Yes, you are right. Blog commenting equals to relationship and money.
  2. Brankica says:
Loved the post. I am struggling with similar stuff like you (of course in less amount). One if the first things I learned when I started a blog is not to make comments like "thanks", "great post". As a new blog, after only a few weeks, I had to post a commenting policy. The worst thing is that some bloggers that are blogging for a while, will make comments that have no connection to my post, or jut make a short comment to get a link back. I didn't want to get on anyone's bad side, but after thinking about it, I realized that it is MY blog and if you don't want to be nice, I don't have to be that nice. So I started deleting comments that are not OK with my commenting policy. There are so many do-follow blogs I read and so many times I did NOT comment on a post, because I had nothing smart to add. Commenting for a link only is so obvious and I want to keep good relationships with those blogs. So in that case, I just don't comment, I will RT and show them in that way that I loved the post. I hope more people will read this post and realize that some things they do are just dumb and they will get them banned from blogs.
  3. LCastro says:
Does anybody knows of a plugin to use with blogger?
    • Hesham says:
As I know you can not install plugins on blogger as it's not self hosted! would you explain what you need to do?!
      • LCastro says:
Thanks I found a site that explains how to make a blogger blog do follow
  4. Queen of the Rant says:
Yeah I don't know how to get people to comment more on my blog, so if anyone has some advice, other then offering money as I have none- please share...
    • Hesham says:
mmm.. search our blog, there is a load of useful tips related to blog commenting! and also check the categories under "Blogging" you will find "Blog Comments"
  5. chandan says:
When I surf on DP forum on the "buy sell trade" section, I see that some people posting there for hiring people commenting on dofollow blogs and some other posting their dofollow blog commenting service. Now can we expect good comment on such type of blog commentator. I think most of spam comment comes from such commentators. .-= chandan@work at home jobs´s last blog ..New programs at google home affiliate network-March 9, 2010 =-.

Yes! I sow that too! and you are right because if you check the comments you will have the feeling that it's paid!
  6. Victor says:
This is a great point and seems to be a common theme going around blogs lately. I have just recently starting getting involved with my comments, and so far find the results to be positive. I'm still uncertain with how far the comment relationship will take me, but I'm down for putting down the effort for at least the short term gains in traffic (no money... yet) .-= Victor´s last blog ..Zuni Cafe in San Francisco =-.
    • Hesham says:
My advice to you would be not to trust anyone before checking their links and blogs and see what people say about them and so on..! I see you have a nice blog, and some of my friends commented on it! Have a great time blogging and commenting, and thanks for the comment Victor!
  7. TheInfoPreneur says:
This is such an important post, commenting is integral to a sites success in my opinion. I reply to virtually everything, even if it's just to say that I agree and thank them for stoping by, why? Because someone who has taken the time to visit read and then comment on something I have produced deserves to have my time. In terms of negative comments I get them too now and again, usually they give a fake email address too so I can't actually help resolve the issue, ah well can't please everyone. You have to add value everywhere you go, by adding value and contributing to a post you have read, you stand a much better chance of carving out your own empire. Very good work .-= TheInfoPreneur´s last blog ..How To Stop Yourself Looking Like An Idiot =-.

Thank you James for the great advice and wisdom in your comment, I have visited your blog and enjoyed the read of your latest post even before I reply to you here, Not all bloggers can force me to do that, but you did :)
      • TheInfoPreneur says:
ha ha thank you. The important thing to note here is mutual benefit of adding value. I commented on your site, you returned the favour now here I am again. It's the cycle that will get our sites to the top and if we all stick together we can all make it. .-= TheInfoPreneur´s last blog ..How To Stop Yourself Looking Like An Idiot =-.

Commenting on other blog is the best way of respecting other bloggers... Making our blog a DO-follow is the best way of respecting our commentators.. BUt i really dont know why the person scolded you like this.. If he want link juice he might have praised you in your blog post.. I think he might be you Old ENEMY.... he he :-) what do u say ?? .-= sudharsan @ technoskillonline´s last blog ..Badjuju just happened !? – Commentluv Problem solved =-.
    • Hesham says:
Respect could be a good point, but if you don't comment will not means that you don't respect the bloggers, right? ;) That person is not important at all as Sire said below on his comment, so don't worry about it, I just included this on the post to tell you about a spammer who thought it's easy to get a dofollow backlink just by hit a run, and when he didn't like it he didn't leave in peace! LOL! maybe he is an old Enemy but, I really don't have any! or at least this is what I think!
  9. Sire says:
You know me Hesham and you know the importance I place on good commenting practices, not just for the blog you are leaving but for your own personal reputation. Sure it takes a bit longer to leave a well thought out comment but this is time well spent. If anything those single liners are just a waste of time, especially on my blog as I just delete them, unless I know the blogger personally. That guy that left the angry comment was a loser and you're better off without his kind. .-= Sire´s last blog ..What Is The True Power Of The Blog? =-.

Yes I know you Sire! and I know your very active blog comment section! Thank for the advice about dealing with losers ;)

  10. Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
I totally agree with you. You shouldn't comment on a blog just to get a backlink. That link isn't worth anything anyway so why bother commenting then. I have made the mistake myself when I started blogging just to comment on other blogs to get some exposure and a link back to my blog. But what I realized now is that commenting is about building relationships. And the best thing so far is that I have gotten tons of traffic simply through genuine and thoughtful comments. And one more thing. I also don't like short comments. It's because these comments don't give you an opportunity to add anything to the conversation. I mean how are you supposed to add anything to "I love this article. Keep it up". Well thanks but I do enjoy longer comments more. Just my random thoughts :P .-= Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..The 3 Unwritten Rules of Blogging =-.
    • Hesham says:
Hey Julius, now also you have got a new Twitter Follower ;) You are from the country of my favorite kind of cars! Actually natural comments are the best to get all expected benefits! Thanks for stepping by!
      • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Thanks for following me ;) I love new followers. What kind of German car do you like? From which brand that is? I agree many people think that simply leaving a comment will get you 1. traffic to your blog 2. a comment in return. But none of these things actually happen. Only if you truly take time to leave a thoughtful and interesting comment. Another benefit is that if you leave an interesting comment about a topic you establish yourself, at least partly, as an expert. Keep it up! .-= Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..The 3 Unwritten Rules of Blogging =-.

I am originally from Egypt, the number 1 country on buying Mercedes Benz in the middle east! but personally I prefer BMW and VW, I had like 3 of the MK2 and I started a blog for it since 2 years I call it MyGolf2 , I publish some videos and stuff there from time to time :) I try my best to keep comments active by writing a conversational topics and commenting on other blogs, some times you feel offended when you don't get a return, but the best thing is to not wait for it, let it comes alone ;)
          • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
It's a great web site you have about the Golf. I really like it. I love the design. But you don't update it as often do you? Well you already have a great blog here. You've got a lot of followers ;) My blog is pretty small compared to this one but there are great conversations going on at my blog. I think conversations are important and that's what I am trying to encourage on my blog and so far it's working. By the way where do you live now? Still in Egypt? .-= Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..The 3 Unwritten Rules of Blogging =-.
            • Hesham says:
Glad you like it, and yes I don't update it recently too much, but I am doing it when ever I have a chance and clear mind, so I remember my old memories with cars lol Conversation is the best, so don't worry about your blog, I am sure you will do great, also stay around and I will try to give you a push from time to time ;) Why don't you join our contest? check the button on the sidebar! I am at the United States now, I moved like 5 months ago when I first started FamousBloggers.net blog lol This blog reminds me always about the move, and I hope it's going to be a big move in life!
  11. Dave Doolin says:
I'm going to be perfectly blunt, and speak the unspeakable: I comment in the hope that I attract like minded people with whom I can build mutually agreeable relationships. Since I don't know who these people are, I have to do a lot of commenting! But I never expect a quid pro quo. That way lies madness. But you know, I also comment quite a bit just because. I also like visiting around the web, place where there is no hope of any sort of business relationship. I even registered for a woman's blog last week (something I never do) because I knew I could help her with something very quickly. And I did, and she felt helped. I don't even remember who that was now. And that's ok. Why am I commenting here? Because I felt I had to say what many won't say, but secretly do anyway. And that's ok too. No worries. .-= Dave Doolin´s last blog ..Antti Kokkonen – When it has to be done right =-.
    • Hesham says:
Thank you Dave for the inspiration in your comment! So many guys don't speak their real minds while commenting and hiding the truth behind their real personalities! I thank also the spirit of helping others, I did this many times, and I also don't remember to whom and where .. I just don't care.. But the good thing is I am sure that those people will never forget you, probably you will meet them again on your blog one day because good things always ... stays!

Hesham, Well though out post and I share the same philosophy with you about comments. Everyday I have to delete about half of the comments that are pending because they are blatant spam. I always seem to get the same ones too, some term paper writing crap. I mark it as spam every time but it always comes back. I have also taking the step to make my blog do follow only on the 5th comments. I think this is the best way to do it, you can still give back to you regular readers and not get used by the punks out there just looking for a quick backlink. .-= Tycoon Blogger @Promote your Blog´s last blog ..Find out your blogs seo rating =-.

Yes, a friend asked me about commenting for money, is $5 worth for 30 comments per day? :D Sounds great isn't it? But no one offering me :D Back to the comment, since I started my blogging journey, commenting is my powerful weapon to get more traffic, visitors, connection, readers or friends, you name it. Commenting for money is Good but i don't think that is the reason why the comments are not as they used to be i have seen a fall in comments on my blog and again what i realize is that people attention span is very short and they tends to move to new scenes. spam comments are on the increase and getting very clever spammers are paying people to comment on your blog. This is a very interesting post hesham, .-= lawmacs´s last blog ..Optimize For Better Ranking =-.

Maybe this is because the lack of time each bloggers have these day tone of other things to do, so probably who used to comment on your blog before will be more busy latter doing his own blogging tasks that he/she have learned through blogging days and nights! This is some conclusion for our situation you and me for example, we don't have time like before to do more comments here and there, so we better do it good when we can!
  17. Jack says:
Sometimes I just remove their hyperlink in the comments. I do that because my blog is Do-Follow with KeywordLuv/CommentLuv. I have changed the way I look at commenting on other blogs recently, and have toned it down quite a bit. I am addicted to commenting, I will admit that. But I tend to look at it differently than most. First, I like to give my opinion, and that is the main reason I comment. Second, I have found, when done properly, commenting is one of the best ways you can network with others in your niche. I am commenting a little less than I used to, but I am trying to channel my energy towards some other projects I am working on.... .-= Keith @HotBlogTips´s last blog ..Make Money On Twitter: Ethical? =-.

I too have similar reasons to comment. I comment if i loved the post and I really learnt something from it or if i have a query about the concept or if i don't agree with the point. I think lots of bloggers in our niche will have almost the same reason for commenting on other blogs, the difference only will be on how each one of us do it and the results we can get from doing it!
  20. Gera says:
I don’t see a good idea to reward commenters with cash because I think that the spirit of the comment can be damaged. The same apply to comment only for links. Comments are the 7 points expressed; the 8 can be to engage with other bloggers, - in other words - to make "social networking" with your peers. Gera, I agree with you, and I cannot deny that I have done it when I fist started this blog, and I got amazing respond, I remember receiving more than 2000 comments per month, but.... I didn't get the quality I wanted to have! The only good thing is that it gave a strong push to FB blog, and this is what we need on the beginning, but doing it over could be a big mistake! Thank you for adding the pint number 8 !
  21. element321 says:
Great post Hesham, I personally don't care what people think about being a DoFollow or NoFollow. My site is Dofollow but I have set that you must post at least 5 comments before all of your comments go DoFollow. I also do not hesitate to delete spammy comments, hate comments, or comments such as 'thats great" even if its from a real blogger. What is crazy, I know several long time bloggers that are only commenting in the one to 3 word comments that are worthless. There are so many articles out there that say why this doesn't work and yet they still do it. .-= element321 @ evolutionary Designs´s last blog ..Foursquare and Myspace Added to Hootsuite =-.

I agree that we should remove those comments, I no longer reply to them because what I will say?! "thank you, you are welcome!", "great post, no problem" ?? I some times spend more than 30 minutes to reply to one post comment here when I got a question from a reader or visitor, this because I respect them a lot, and I feel they really need help with the issue they asking about! I dig on the internet to find solution for their problems, and so many time I can not find it, so I come back and say "sorry.. I don't know"! mmm.. I also think that I can comment a very short (3 words) comment if this is my blog and I am replying to someone who commented on it, just for being nice to him/her!
  22. abhi says:
Lol...:O...people are using my name :). Anyway What was the comment?

Well.. I didn't mention the subject of the comment because it's not really good to write about it here ;) but it's the worst words anyone can ever receive, imagine!
  23. abhi says:
Comment plays a important role. It adds life and interaction to the blog. Dofollow and nofollow always fight together. :)
