50 Traffic Sources You Should Milk Like Crazy

March 10, 2011 - Last Modified: June 28, 2011 by Brankica Underwood 74,948

Website Traffic Sources

Is blogging a struggle for you sometimes? I know it is a passion for most of us, and we love doing it. But sometimes it becomes a struggle. How to get more traffic, how to get more comments, how to come up with fresh topics…

My struggle was if I should enter the contest. My first one. I just decided to have fun and do it. There is so much to write on the topic of traffic generation that I didn’t want to miss the chance.

So how about me helping you by reminding you of some usual traffic sources and telling you about some you might have missed along the way?

I will tell you about those that brought me the most traffic over the years. If you are in a niche, don’t go away – the tips are not only for blogs about blogging.

Use video/image/other files to get traffic

trafficYoutube.com is an awesome place to find targeted traffic. How can you get more traffic besides creating great and viral videos?

  • Make sure to add your blog’s URL to an opening or closing “scene” of the video.
  • Add a link to your blog in the description (must be related of course).
  • Create video responses to related videos with a lot of views.

Vimeo.com, like YouTube, will house your videos. Don’t forget your blog’s URL in the opening scene!

Flickr.com is great not only for photographers but bloggers as well.

  • Any time you use a photo from Flickr, make a comment under it and include a link to your post. Photographers love seeing how their photos are used. I have had great traffic results with it, especially if you use an image in a funny, non-related way (a bunny reading a book on a post about Google PR).

Slideshare.net is a place where you can post slide shows to promote your blog and get more traffic. Not sure what a slide show would do to get traffic?

  • Turn your most popular posts into slide shows. As simple as that.

Scribd.com lets you upload documents and share them with a big community of readers.

  • Write useful how-tos for your niche and make them available for download. Don’t forget to include some links to your blog. PDF files work great for this. All files I make available for download can be shared and given away as long as they are not edited (so my link is shared along with them). Great guides get shared a lot!

Wikimedia.org is a great place to find new, targeted traffic.

  • Let’s say you have a great image of a travel destination (Rome, Italy, for example). Upload it to Wikimedia with a Commons license and go to Wikipedia. Find a project that is related to your image (Rome, Italy). Go to a project and attach your image as a related image to the Rome page. Your photo will be a new traffic source for your blog.

iTunes – podcasting is a great way to get fresh, targeted traffic. With millions and millions of users this is still a traffic generation source that is not saturated as some others.

The usual traffic generation sources

crowd
Commenting on other blogs
– we all know about this way of traffic generation. But don’t rely only on posting a comment. Answer other people’s questions as well. And visit a new blog every once in a while, don’t stay on the same ones all the time!

If you are commenting on a blog that has Comment Luv enabled, make sure to master the art of good blog post titles.

Guest posting – again, a well known traffic source, but how much of it are you really using? Are you afraid of guest posting on bigger blogs? Go to new, up and coming blogs which are more likely to accept your post. You never know, few months from now, one of those blogs might be “the next big blog”.

Round ups – There is nothing better for traffic than being included in a round up on a blog like Kikolani or NittyGriddy. But you never are… If you think you wrote a great post that deserves to be in a round up like that, contact the blogger and offer your post. Great posts are not always discovered by themselves.

Social bookmarking sites

Digg.com – you don’t have much success with it? Stop submitting your posts, submit and digg other people’s posts and connect with as many “diggers” as you can. They will return the favor.

StumbleUpon.com – the best strategy is to do the same as I wrote for Digg. An extra thing to do would be being very active as a stumbler. Seems that the more active you are, the more “valuable” your submissions and votes are.

My biggest success with SU was a friend of mine (a pretty active one) submitting one of my posts. Talk about 1.000 new visitors in a day (low bounce rate and long times they spent on the blog was the cherry on top of a chocolate cake).

Reddit.com – I had great success with this site by submitting funny and controversial stuff. Funny images will bring you crazy amounts of traffic.

Delicious.com – Although there were some rumors it will be shut down, it is still working and bringing the traffic. Same tactics as other bookmarking sites. Great posts with numbers in the title (like this one) often get a lot of traffic from Delicious.

Google Buzz and Yahoo Buzz allow you to share blog posts. Any kind of sharing is a potential for traffic generation.

Amplify.com is a sharing site where you can connect with people, spark conversations and get more traffic for your blog.

Bookmarking and voting for bloggers

There are 5 sites I use for bookmarking best blog posts and voting for them.

BlogEngage.com
BlogInteract.com
Serpd.com
Blokube.com
BizSugar.com

I don’t submit all of my posts and I try to vote often for posts I like. Try to connect with people and vote on their posts. Keep it real and don’t go “blind voting” for everything on the home page.

These sites can bring very targeted traffic to your blog considering they are pretty focused. Not to mention that once you have a great post shared on those sites (and it makes it to a home page) you will have your blog flooded with targeted visitors.

Traffic generation by writing content for other sites

Ezinearticles.com, although hit by the new Google algorithm, it is a great source of highly targeted traffic. The bounce rate of visitors I get from EZA is always less than 20%! Choosing a good keyword for an article can result in incredible amounts of traffic. I have been receiving a lot of traffic from a single well written article for a year and a half now!

I will not list other article sites cause it would look like pumping up numbers of traffic sources in this post, but there are many of them that can bring fresh eyes to your blog.

Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com will not only bring you targeted traffic but can also be a nice source of income. If you don’t want to spend too much time on these sites, you can always make a single page about your blog and update it from time to time with links to your must-read and most popular posts.

About.com – How many times have you tried to do something and needed instructions? You Google it and it brings up how-tos from About.com. Well, you can contribute to this site with some of the how-tos for your niche and get traffic from it. Additional tip – there is an About.com Forum where you can be helpful to people in need and get additional traffic to your blog.

Never underestimate Wikipedia and WikiHow. These two sites are an awesome place to further promote your blog and get, again, targeted traffic. Depending on your niche, you can contribute some great tips and bring thousands of visitors back to your blog.

One forgotten traffic generation source

The Forums – yes, I know some bloggers are telling you that you can not get anything from the Forums, but I can prove them wrong. One example: I met one of my dear blogging friends on a Forum way before I started blogging. She has been helping me since. Instead of struggling with some newbie mistakes, I skipped most of them and went straight for success. Most forums allow links in signatures – use it!

Your niche will determine which forums you will visit, but great forums for bloggers are Website Babble, My blog guest, Warrior forum, Blog Frog, etc.

Social media sources

social media traffic source

Facebook.com – Do I need to explain this one? You can use your personal profile to post about your blog, you can use groups and pages. Ask your friends to share your blog post to their wall and groups and wait for all the traffic to pour in.

While on Facebook, I need to mention Networked Blogs. I use this application to post my RSS on my personal profile wall and my blog’s fan page. You can also use this application to follow other blogs in the network and rate them.

This is one of my biggest traffic referrals at the moment. You should use all possible tools to get your blog shared on Facebook as much as possible because with so many users, Facebook can bring a lot of traffic to your blog.

Twitter.com is one of the best ways to get your blog out there. Main thing – communicate and connect, don’t spam. Tweet relevant and quality posts and don’t self-promote too much. Don’t forget to participate in Twitter chats. I get a lot of “fresh” visitors from those chats!

LinkedIn.com is a place where you can get traffic from more than one source.

Connect with people you know and they will see your updates. If you are a good writer and post great content, you will receive traffic from them. You can generate traffic by joining LinkedIn groups and helping people in your niche by pointing them to your relevant posts. Besides groups, there is an answers section. Answer questions the best you can and point people to relevant links (your blog).

Yahoo Groups – join groups in your “area of expertise”. Again, do the best you can to help people.

Paid traffic sources

Facebook ads are a great way to get highly targeted traffic to your blog (landing page, fan page, what ever). Although not a free traffic source, it is a great one. The price is not very high and I think it is pretty acceptable considering that you can choose demographics of Facebook users that will see your ad. I had great success getting traffic that converts on one of my niche sites.

Google Adwords is a well known paid traffic generation source. I, presonally, did not get too much into it since it takes some learning to make it work for you. But you can easily find coupons for $75 to try it out, so why not? Those who can use Google Adwords well convert that traffic into subscribers and buyers in no time.

Ads on related blogs. Most blogs are open for advertising and you can always buy advertising space on them. Choosing a blog that is related to your niche (while not directly competing with you) and has a lot of visitors is a great way to get more traffic.

Answer sites – Why aren’t bloggers using them more?

answers sites

This is one of my favorite ways of traffic generation. Using answer sites is not only a great way to generate targeted traffic but establish yourself as a “know it all” in your niche.

The main tip about using answer sites is not to link to your blog every time you answer a question. Especially if the post is not closely related to the question. Answer some questions for the sake of answering them. You will always have links in your bio/profile, so if you answer a question like a rock star (without a link),  some traffic will come from people checking out your profile.

Vark.com is owned by Google. Interesting, right? Last time I checked, their links were dofollow. All you need to do is choose topics you are interested in and you will get relate dquestions that need answers. Answer the best way you can, and if it is convenient, point people to your blog with a related link.

Yahoo Answers is one of my favorite traffic generation sources when it comes to answer sites. It has been one of my main traffic sources on a niche site for a long time, even after I haven’t used it for months. The main thing is to give your best when answering. If your answers are chosen as the best ones, you will have more respect in the eyes of the visitors so… yes, more of them will come to check out your blog.

Google answers is one of the great answer sites you can use for traffic generation. I mean, isn’t everything that is connected to Google something we should master?!

Quora.com is a pretty new but already very popular site among bloggers. Connect, ask questions and answer them. Same “laws” apply like on any answer site.

Fluther.com is great in a way that it will find questions related to your expertise. After using it for awhile, the site gets “smarter” as it learns more about you and offers you questions related to your niche.

Other great answer sites you should start using today:

  • Blurtit.com
  • Wiki answers
  • Yedda.com or AOLAnswers.com (same site)

A few more interesting sources of fresh traffic

eBay.com can generate traffic in more than one way. You can sell reports and e-books you write (write some useful how-tos and sell them for very low price, the point in this case is the traffic, not the money). There is also an about page you can create, where you can put a link to your blog.

Craigslist.org – Yes, you can post ads and generate traffic. Depending on your niche the ads will be different. You have a “blog about blogging” and can’t imagine how you could post an ad? Aren’t you offering a service? That is an ad right there.

Paper.li is a site that automatically creates “newspapers” based on who you follow on Twitter. You can base it on Twitter lists or make other settings. When it posts to your Twitter, it will mention one or two people who are featured in it. How about sending tweets mentioning all the people featured in it that you haven’t connected with yet?

Generating traffic by offline promotion

offline coffee promotion

You can always generate some traffic by promoting your blog offline. I can think of many ideas, but here are just a few (depends a lot on the type of blog you have):

– handing flyers to your targeted audience (University students, high school students, coffee drinkers…)

– buying an ad in printed magazines or local newspapers

– giving away free samples of what ever you offer on your blog

I bet there is at least one traffic source mentioned here that you have not used yet, and I am sure there are some I forgot to mention.

So I would like to ask a favor from you. Suggest number 51 (post a comment) and then share this post…go crazy…tweet it every day, digg it, stumble it, vote for it, tell your friends about it. If you like it and I win a prize, I promise to write more great posts for you 🙂

Have you conisidered traffic exchanges, or blog exchanges. After submitting your URL and signing up to about 10 exchanges, it takes about an hour clicking through all 10 surf sights at a time. But it does give you some good traffic. I reciently started doing it and I am now getting around 200 visitors a day. That is just from traffic exchanges. not bad from just one type of traffic source
  10. Marc Bell says:

The blog sharing turned out to be really interesting! I run a short poetry blog - you know...words move! I'm not commercial but I do like to know that the poetry is finding homes, being read. I have seen the rest of the online poetry blogs out there - and mine rocks! Anyway, thanks for this!
  21. kolembo says:
Oh good stuff this! I own a Poetry blog and although I'm not interested in generating commercial value, I AM interested in gaining readership! I have great content and it's horrible when I don't get the traffic. Going to try the 'bookmarking and voting'! Thanks!

I just joined digg a few minutes ago. I gotta tell you that I have been researching on this topic for several months now. By far the best article I have come across on traffic generation. It's one of the most comprehensive ones I've read. And includes a variety of sources which never struck me before. I'm a musician and I plan on starting a blog and uploading videos soon. This is really going to help me a lot and I'm gonna follow. :) I really like the idea of using sites like wiki, about.com, scribd etc...
  23. Patti Hale says:
Very good information! I have shared, tweeted and liked! Thanks!
  24. Charles Cawley says:
This is a breath of fresh air. Information Technology has been, for too long, plagued by those exploiting the ignorance of well intentioned people. The more good gen we have the better we will do and the better services will become. We put useful information on our web site for people wanting to start up renting out cottages. It is extensive and quite annoys our rivals who keep this sort of thing secret, only giving it out if you 'send for an information pack'. This, then, gives them the green light to pester you with sales calls and threatened sales visits. Generosity with information is the way forward. People remember it and associate it with a postive attude towards business relationships. Thank you for your help with these links.
  25. Anton Koekemoer says:
Excellent post - Especially the section on "Answer sites" , The more your Business can be found online the better it is for your online presence and brand exposure. Thanks for sharing all the great tips.

  28. David Lovesit says:
This isn't an article, it's a $250 webinar course! Well done. What I like best is I can give it to a staff member and they can go to work right away. I love getting traffic to a new site that's 4 hours old. Immediate results sure feels good. My favorite from the list? Probably article writing.
  29. Joseph Ling says:
Indeed, this is a very informative post just like you have said for reminding those traffic generating sources and also those missed out sources . For me, most of these traffic generating sources are new and fresh . Hence, I am especially thankful for these useful information.
  30. Kelly says:
Thank you for this article. Personally, I use especially articles which put forward friendliness within my blog. Besides, the frequency of articles plays a lot to have traffic.
  31. Sabrina Sabino says:
Wow that's a lot of great information Brankica! Very resourceful. I've listed down a few sites that are quite new to me. I've had some great results using Yahoo Answers (e.g. getting opt-ins) so I would like to see if the other answer sites can do the same. :)
  32. Dave says:
I really appreciate this list especially now that Google seems to have lost it's mind. The less that we need to depend on them the better. Thanks to this list I can move forward and get back some of my lost traffic!
  33. Greg Barr Barr says:

Wow honestly one of the most useful posts ive ever read. Although i have added pinterest to my efforts before this post was written... keep up Underwood ;)
  44. Liz says:
Thanks for this - a lot of sites to look into. I would second Louise's suggestion about Pinterest, especially if, like mine, your blog has a lot of images. You can get 'pin it' widgets to encourage pinning...

Hi, Quite a few I hadn't thought of, but a great one I've just found is Pinitrest, fab, anyone else using it? Louise :)

  46. Harleena Singh says:
Wow Brankica! I just don't know how I missed this awesome post :) I have just been going through it for quite sometime and finally bookmarked it for future reference whenever I need it- it is that good! Awesome indeed :) I loved the way you shared all the way you could get traffic and even though I am doing most of these things, there is so-so much more that I need to work on and change the way I look at some others. Thanks so much for sharing, and wishing you the best for the contest :)
  47. zimbrul says:
I couldn't think in a million years of so many traffic sources. Well, most of them are obvious (Twitter, Youtube, Facebook) but the rest are something you don't think all the time. I think you need to put up a plan because I cannot see any blogger making use of all of these. Brankica, you are a star...and you blog like a star ;)
  48. Sarah says:
This is one topic that i battle with. I appreciate you post so much, thank you. You have left some truly valuable tips and links. Cant wait to get started.
  49. Samuel says:
I have to come of the bat and say, this is a fine article for resource that can be looked at many times, when needed. Social media is a sick way to get some free traffic, when spent on and build within it. I will need to look into some more traffic, soon. Thanks for you awesome article! :)
  50. Wonder says:
Great post with many useful tips, I haven't tried many of the methods yet. After I finish reading this post, I do think I can follow some tips for my site promotion (even it is not a blog). I still think it can be effective. Thanks so much for sharing.
  51. Bill says:
Excellent list! Some of these I haven't used before. I also wanted to let you know Amplify is now closed, though they were cool while they lasted.

  53. Jamie says:
Just wanted to let you know that this page offers great info but your WP plugin "fake traffic blaster" really sucks! I merely copied the URL from FF and wanted to view it on IE and this stupid plugin thought I am a bot or something spammy and showed me the fake traffic blaster page. How intelligent!
    • Hesham Zebida says:
I don't know why someone would view my site on IE while having FF! Sorry but, I don't support or develop for IE, at least not yet.
  54. Simon says:
Great post!. I have copied the site lists in my machine. Thanks for the list.
  55. dann vicker says:
Your list is very extensive, and I picked up 2 or 3 gems from this. Even though I didn't see you talk much about torrents, I think they can be very strategic in getting more traffic especially for listbuilding purposes
  56. Leigh Louey-Gung says:
What an awesome list. There's so many on there I've never heard of. When I get some time, I'm going to sit down and go through them all. Cheers.
  57. Barbara McKinney says:
Thanks for sharing some of the useful sites that help you increase your web traffic. I'd found your blog in a bookmarking site and it greatly helped. Maybe I should take a first move by registering in some sites that you'd mentioned.
  58. Isabella says:

Have a nice day! :)
    • Brankica says:
Glad to hear you liked it. Yeah, I guess it does have a lot of comments :) It was a part of a contest so I tried my best to promote it everywhere. Let me know if you have more questions. And thanks for hopping over on my blog and here!
  61. Shonda says:
Wow! I have learned so much from you this evening. Thank you. It prompted me to create a list of my own I have sporadically (and unfocused) have been doing myself. I have been using Flickr, but not linking back to my post... shame on me. Going back tomorrow and starting to add links. I do Cinch my articles which can be found on Itunes and I use Odiogo where people can also listen to all of my articles (including the ones I don't personally Cinch). Also, I like Blog Glue to refer and be referred. My main goal is to have a focused plan. I like your recommendation to focus on 5 at a time. Thanks again.
  62. Mark says:
I'm a IT Technician that has decided to take my knowledge of computer repair and maintenance online. So I made a blog about 2 months ago and I'm getting a small trickle of traffic a week. Most of those are from Yahoo! Answers. Twitter I just started using a few days ago and haven't got many followers yet. So It may not be the fastest methods but it's slowly working for me. 74. Tahir says:
Thanks for sharing such an informative post. All of the sites you listed above are really do better in order to get traffic to your site.
  75. Mark says:
Hi Brankika, With respect to EZA, I no longer submit to them. They rejected some of my article for saying that the page I was linking to did not contain enough information. I linked to my blog and to the original article. I believe they didn't like the link to the original article. That being the case, they no longer allow one of the cardinal rules of syndication as per Google itself..."Link To The Original". Once they stopped allowing that, they were no longer useful to me. Thanks for the great resource. Mark
  76. Samantha says:
great article. lots of useful info for newbies.but dont forget , you need to know how to use them. So first start out with a gmail account and try them out to make sure they are not going to kick you of for some kind of spamming. wont to know more about how to use these follow me.

All I can say, Brankica, is ... WOW-WEE. From my hair roots to my toenails -- thank you! This is quite an extensive list of resources and there's at least four here I've never heard of before. I love landing on a post that's like uncovering buried treasure. You shine! Melanie
  81. Jason says:
This is my first time on your blog and I found it when I was reading up on who won the contest at Famous Bloggers. I can definitely see why now! I spent a good amount of time reading and going through all the advice that you've stated in this post since I am fairly new to blogging. I believe one of the biggest hurdles that I will come across when trying to further my blogging experience is driving traffic to my blog. I will make sure to apply many of the techniques you've listed in this post to my blog and hopefully I'll see some traffic! I will definitely continue to read your informative posts. Thanks! :)
    • Brankica says:
Hey Jason, glad you liked it and thanks for the nice words. I would suggest using a few of these at times, so you don't get overwhelmed. I never do all of them at the same time because I would completely lose focus :)
  82. Suresh Khanal says:
Some great and worthy insights I've got in this post. Thank you Brakica, you've really done a good work and put a lot of effort into this post. I guess we need to build up a team to use all of these sources, but I hope applying a few of them also can drive a great results.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Suresh, there are many more interesting ideas posted in comments. Second, I think you should choose up to 5 traffic sources you haven't used before and work on them for awhile. See which one deliver and if they don't dump them and try another one. But focus on up to 5 new ones over a certain period of time. I hope this will help :)
  83. Per-Erik Olsen says:
Amazing blog Brankica! It was the best compilation of traffic sources I've seen so far. And I have also seen some paid ones. Flickr and WikiMedia were totally new to me. I will read this over and over again!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thanks so much Per-Erik, I actually explained my Flickr strategy in a guest post before I wrote this one and you can find it here: http://www.trafficgenerationcafe.com/flickr-traffic-generation/
  84. Swamykant says:
Videos are very viral contents. They can bring tons of traffic via Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. This is very big and useful list for every bloggers. Thanks for sharing the list.
    • Brankica says:
Glad you liked it. Videos are great but unfortunately they are not viral. It takes a lot for a video to become viral. Still they can help a lot when you want to snatch all the YouTube traffic :)
  85. Kyle Morgan says:
Love the post, you do mention a lot of traffic sources that I've never thought to try before!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Kyle, try 5 new ones and come back to tell me how it worked out for you. Every time I want some fresh traffic, I start frequenting new places. That brings new people to my blog and some always stick around for awhile :)
  86. Satish says:
Thats really a wonderful article by the author. Wow so many sources to get traffic and i still say my traffic is not improved. i will try all of them and then come back again :)
    • Brankica Underwood says:
You better get on with this and then come back to report the results :)
  87. Thomas says:
Wow! If I had to say one word that would be IT. I've read some tips from bloggers but this may shoot up to be one of the best I've read. Congrats on winning the contest at Famous Bloggers. Now I see why.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thanks so much, I am glad you like it and I really appreciate the comment...totally blushing, lol
  88. Diane says:
This is just jam packed with ideas for generating web traffic... one of the most comprehensive idea lists I have seen in a long time. I have shared it on writing forums as well as tweeted. Congrats & thanks!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thanks Diane, I am glad you liked it, and thanks for sharing it :)
  89. Dave Corby says:
Hi, Having read all this advice I can see its going to be a busy weekend! After 'Panda' many sites have collapsed but I have found that Squidoo has surprised me as it seems to be keeping popularity and as mentioned above, makes a little money as well as helps driving traffic. Hmmm...50 ideas....shall I start from the top or be different and work my way up from the end of the list?
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Lol, start from the middle :) Yeah, Squidoo is doing great and I know they are cleaning out all the time when they see a lousy lens. They have angels over there that report stuff like that (I am an angel myself on Squidoo :) And it is even not that hard to make money over there which I always suggest to beginners that don't have money to invest in blogs and sites.
  90. Christina Crowe says:
Wow, what a massive post Brankica! I love it. :) I especially liked your suggestion to answer questions on answer sites. I've tried Yahoo Answers before, though didn't do much with it. I'll definitely give it another go in the future though! Man, just when I was tidying up my to-do list, you had to make it longer for me. ;) Thanks for such an awesome read! By the way, I found this post on StumbleUpon (crazy how the world works). =p Christina
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Stumble Upon? Wow, that is crazy :) Hey I posted about Yahoo Answers on my blog, there is a detailed explanation how I used it, in case you need any help. And I am sorry you are adding to your to-do list, you can never get rid of me, lol
  91. martin says:
Hi and thanks for this list. The only thing I can think about is that - it's good to know where to promote the blog but even better to know how ;) I must admit that anyway even with this list that is not so easy anyway.
  92. Tristan says:
Wow, great post, Brankica!!! I've used Flickr in the past and while I haven't gotten much traffic from it, I've gotten a ton of backlinks. Like there's this one photo in particular that I tagged as "SEO" and included a link in the description back to the blog post I used the photo in. I guess there are lots of autoblogs that scrape stuff like SEO-related images, and since they scrape the description, too, I get lots of automatic backlinks. Sure, they're crappy backlinks, but still backlinks :)
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Tristan, I had no idea about that. I did get some nice links from there and I like that even Alexa picks them up but hadn't thought of using it that way. I guess this is why you are a genius and I am still an apprentice :) Thanks so much for the comment and aren't you proud how you thought me well!
    • Alex says:
Holy Crap this is a good post Brankica! Best of the contest so far without a doubt! Bookmarked and will be sharing this with my readers - tell you what!
  93. bbrian017 says:
Hi Brankica I'm honored to be up in the same contest as you! Your article is breathtaking really! You have added so many unique factors into this one it's extremely beneficial for any blogger to read. Your covered so many are's and gave great idea's and suggestions about them. Great article! Thanks for sharing! Also THANK YOU for adding blogengage I love ya!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
      Thanks for the comment, Brian.
  94. Rob says:
Brankica, I read through this and subscribed to the comments. Boy, it gets a little frustrating when you get so many emails that aren't to you:) When I first read I understood very lttle (very very lttle). Reading again has really been helpful. I understand these ideas so much better now. It follows that Hindu teaching, "When the student is ready the teacher will appear". You bring such value with your presentation style and willingness to go the extra miles (in this case). I will post exactly what my numbers are about two weeks from now after implementing at least 5 of these. I am hovering around 80 visitors daily in the last 10 days. I know it'll be a good report! Thanks, you rock girl. Live it LOUD!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Rob, thanks for the awesome comment and sorry for flooding your inbox, lol. Also, thanks for the great words, I really appreciate it! I can't wait to see your numbers after 2 weeks. You will tell me which 5 you chose and if they don't work as expected I will help you choose others that might work better for you. It depends a lot on the niche but you can count on me helping you finding the best ones for you :)
  95. Andi says:
Great information, of particular interest is the fact that I have never really thought about offline promotion - above and beyond networking at conferences, etc - but these suggestions are a really good idea- I think I am going to start with a blog card on my local Starbucks bulletin board!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hay Andi, glad you find a tip you can use. I think that offline promotion, although dependent on the niche of course, can bring great traffic. Even for people who offer nothing but info on their blog, they can still create a free giveaway or something to get extra traffic. I can't wait to see how you getting results :) Thanks for the comment!
  96. John says:
I'm about to go get my "Squidoo" on thanks to this article, Brankica! I know you mentioned it before but seeing people post here about their successes is even more social proof, i guess :) Anyway thanks again for writing this up. Peace!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey John, you can even make money with Squidoo, it is great for those that don't want to invest in blogs or just can't do it. I will give you some guidelines on that cause it has been pretty profitable for me :) Thanks for the comment !
  97. Sue Reddel says:
This is a great go to reference piece. Excellent work Brankica. I already shared it with my Twitter folks. Thanks for some great ideas.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Sue, I am glad you liked it and hope some of those Twitter folks will get something out of it as well. I hope to hear some feedback from you after some time to see how these worked out for you.
  98. Zarko says:
Damn, this is a long list of comments Brankice :) 300+ counting, well your article definitively deserved it, it addresses almost every blogging aspect of getting traffic there is :) great job
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Zarko, I am glad you think so and I really hope all these traffic sources will bring results to people that commented here. I would be very satisfied if they made something out of it :) Thanks so much for the comment.
  99. Daca says:
Hey there, I had to come back and post some updates. I tried your tips on my brand new blog and got following results. I have to say it is a brand new free wordpress site and I got it to have 30 daily visitors after only 5 days of following your advice. It's been 2 weeks that I am using the tips and I am up to 45 daily visitors.I also made my first money with that blog. Since I am a lot more active on Squidoo, I decided to try some of these ideas over there too, and I had my traffic double in only one week. Thanks and I will be back with more numbers and feedback how I made these traffic sources work for me.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Daca, thanks so much for the update. I am glad you found stuff you can apply to your blog in this post and that you made it work for you! I am also glad to hear those numbers getting higher every day. That is the power of this post, having something for everyone. I hope to hear that it got even better after another week :)
  100. Robin says:
Brankica, Great information! I am still navigating my way through the maze of the online marketing world, and amidst so much crap and scams, it's refreshing to see something of real value. I'll be retweeting this and following you...starting NOW!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Robin, thanks so much for those kind words. I am really glad you think so nicely about my post and I hope to see you more on my blog :) I am glad to connect with you and feel free to contact me anytime you get stuck with any of these!
  101. Sanjeev Sharma says:
On the basis of this article alone, you should be given a Ph.D in internet traffic generation. Absolutely fantastic set of ideas & sources for traffic generation. I had taken a print of this article the first I read it and then took some serious action of some of the ideas that have mentioned here - flickr images, blog commenting, slideshare (this even resulted in some great business leads and closures), sites such as blog engage, blog interact, social media sources such as LinkedIn, forum participation etc. And they have done wonders to my sites. The fact that there are 319 comments here even as I write is testimony to the authenticity of the ideas presented here. Great article which will one day be a classic - if it is not already.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Sanjeev, I really appreciate the feedback. I am glad you actually put to use these tips and made them work for you. I love hearing people getting results from my tips :) Is there such a thing as Ph.D in traffic generation? LOL, I know some that would love the title, but somehow never really walk the walk... Now about those leads and closures, I will have to consult you, seems like you know some things way better than I do, I would like to see how that happens! Thank you so much for the comment and I hope you will have even better results in few weeks!
  102. Don F Perkins says:
Brankica Great post. Looks like I've got a few weeks worth of exploring to do - checking out these blog traffic boosting tools and ideas! One question I have: How do you measure the success of each of these tools and tips? Surely you have tried some that were less successful than others. Do you track metrics and weed out the less-than-stellar time-suck ideas? I'd love to hear how you settled on these that you mention in the post. Perhaps there's value in talking a bit about the ones that have fallen by the wayside and why as well.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Don, that is a great question and I will give you the overview. Now I have been trying these out for almost two years, for example Yahoo Answers was one of the first ones I tried and brought great results then. So first you need to decide which ones will you try and then track the results. I use Google Analytics to track the incoming traffic. So if I am focusing for example on blog commenting, I will note where I commented, how many times, etc and then see if those comments brought me any traffic. It depends a lot on the type of comment I make, the title of my ComLuv post, but you can still get some overview of how that traffic source is working for you. There are of course sources I discover "by chance". For example, in the last month Paper.li brought me 24 visitors, that spent more than 2 minutes on average on my blog. That is more than some blogs I comment on regularly bring me. So in this case, I will try to promote the paper.li a bit better and make it work for me. I will unfollow some people on Twitter that are not tweeting anything good so my paper.li chooses better posts hence better tweeps and get me exposed to them. A lot of them will RT my paper.li daily, so there is more potential of my content being shared. In case of the blog I mentioned, since none of the posts are becoming viral, the blogger is average, it is obviously not bringing me any traffic, I will start commenting less and work more on those that bring me more traffic. Now this is all great, except I get emotionally attached to blogs I read so I don't look at numbers like that :) But that is how you should track results. The main thing after reading this post is to choose up to 5 of these sources you feel comfortable with, work on them and track results. Keep those that work for you and ditch those that don't. It is a lot dependent on the niche you are in, too. I always try one source for up to a month, if there are no results in a month, I stop working on it and move to another one. If I didn't answer all you wanted to know, just ask additional questions, I am more than glad to help :)
  103. Bill Dorman says:
Yes, I am a goober.......I love you guys; thanks for putting up w/ me.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Oh, Bill, you know you are our favorite white teeth Hollywood friend :)
  104. Diana Simon says:
Hi Brankica, wow what an extensive list. As a one-month old blogger this list is overwhelming so there were four things I have noted and will look into further are stumbleupon, digg, roundups and vark. I hope to implement them soon and will keep track of the results. As for the other sources, I will come back to this post to see what other sources to use next. I am curious to know from your experience, what are the Top 10 most effective traffic sources?
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Diana, out of these 50, you know all of them will work different for different blogs and I haven't fully "milked" some of them, but my top 10 are: commenting, Stumbleupon, Twitter, guest blogging, Reddit, Networked blogs, Blogengage, Bloginteract, round ups and Linked In. Not necesarily in this order of course. I do have to add that one of my top traffic sources (actually the number one) are search engines. Also, I have a lot of subscribers so they keep coming back too. If you have any questions, just post them and I will try to explain better :) Thanks so much for the comment!
  105. Alessandra says:
What a GREAT article....so helpful, and very creative! Can't wait to use some of these strategies! Thanks :)
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Alessandra, I am so glad you like it. Hope you will come back in few weeks to share the progress :) Thanks so much for the comment and helping me in the contest!
  106. Alexis says:
Wow - I thought I was plugged into the "web networking" world when clearly I have barely scraped the surface. Thanks so much for putting together this really comprehensive resource! Bookmarking.....now!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Alexis, great to see you here :) I am glad you bookmarked this post, I think these traffic sources can bring a lot of traffic to any niche, so don't hesitate to try them all. Well, not all of them at once of course, lol. If you need any extra help, you know where to find me and I will try to do my best to help you with them!
  107. Bill Dorman says:
Lord have mercy................it's a good thing I love ya even when you do treat me badly. You know I will always pimp ya............
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Ha ha ha I do forgive that you called the cops on us at that party over at Sales Lion and we are still friends, you know you are my favorite Bill out of all the Bills out there!!!
  108. Bruce says:
What wonderful list. I now have something to go back to as a check list! Thank you... Bruce
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Bruce, glad you liked it and thanks for the comment :)
  109. Nasif says:
Awesome... Bookmarking this page and I will implement all those one by one
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Nasif, that is great. I guess I will hear back from you in a few months :) and see the results! Thanks so much for the comment.
  110. Bill Dorman says:
Here ya go meanie; at least one of us can play nice........
    • Brankica Underwood says:
OMg, are you here to ruin the party... again!! :)
  111. Eileen Ludwig says:
Looking back on the top bloggers in someone else's eyes helps us expand out horizons. Eileen
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Eileen, thanks for the comment :)
  112. Manix says:
Wow, so many different techniques for bringing traffic! Honestly, this post is really one of the most useful posts I've ever encountered. I'll try to milk some traffic from at least 5 sources from your list, as a starter, and let's see how that'll end.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Manix, that is a great start, 5 is probably the best number to start and be able to test the results. I am glad you think so highly of my post and hope you will have some great results after reading it :)
  113. Marianne Worley says:
So many creative ideas that I would have never even been able to imagine! My newbie technique for getting more blog traffic? The link in my email signature. Every little bit helps, right?
    • Brankica Underwood says:
It sure does. I use the e-mail signature as well. But for mass results, we better get milkin' these, lol
  114. Kavita says:
Hi Brankica. That is a huge list to get traffic to blog. I have used some but still have to go for some tips. While writing this comment it just got in my mind that wordpress.org, a huge site with many members can be number 51 traffic source if you have not mentioned yet in the post. Thanks for the share and good luck for your contest entry
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Kavita, thanks for adding to the list, you and all the other awesome commentators made this list way longer, like an ultimate traffic blogging guide :) Thanks so much for the comment and hope to get some feedback on the traffic sources that worked for you!
  115. tracy ingram says:
That is a wild amount of sources thanks for the info. I will have to check it out.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Tracy, I hope you will try them out and tell us how they worked out for ya.
  116. Brent Nelson says:
I've started a fairly new blog, aimed at fairly new bloggers, by a fairly new blogger! I've had another blog up and running for about four months and it's building up quite well, but I've learned a lot from you here, and am looking forward to trying all the ideas that are new to me. You've been so thorough that I can't suggest a 51, but perhaps a 50a - I use Tweetadder with my Twitter accounts; it's a brilliant tool for automating tasks and driving traffic. I won't spam the comment with a link here, but there is one on my blog for anyone who is interested. Thanks again for all those ideas, cheers, Brent
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Brent, good luck with the new blog, I opened it in a new tab to check it out as soon as I post this comment :) I don't use Tweetadder or any other Twitter automated tools that include followers, DMs or something like that. But I have heard people saying it worked great for them. Thanks so much for the comment!
  117. tony berkman says:
Great post, though http://www.blogcatalog.com that sends millions of visits a month to blogs and has an engaged community of bloggers from startup bloggers to pros should be on any list. BlogCatalog is the parent company of http://www.bloggersunite.org a site dedicated to harnessing the power of the blogosphere and another great site for bloggers to connect and get traffic and become more effective bloggers.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Tony, thanks for including Blog Catalog. I hadn't thought of it and I love that I am learning more and more from the comments here. The list is probably up to 75 now :)
  118. Jayne Kopp says:
Hi Brankica, you know I am gobsmacked at how many new ideas you suggested that I had never heard of! Fantastic.... I've Tweeted, Linked it In and 'Dugg" it... Absolutely awesome. I think I will need to pin this up where I can see it and try a few techniques. Thanks so much! Jayne
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thank you Jayne, for doing all that voting and sharing, means the world to me! I am glad you saw some new ideas and looking at all the comments, I think I killed a really bug tree with this post, that is how many people want to print it out, lol. If at any point of time you get stuck with one of these, send me an e-mail, tweet, what ever and I will try to help you with extra ideas :)
  119. Delena Silverfox says:
Hi Brankica! I had to stop by again and let you know how a few of these ideas of yours are working for me. Purely because of this article, I put an ad on Craigslist for my Natural Parent consulting. Also I started posting a bit on Q&A sites, but I should bump that up. Paper.li didn't make a lot of sense to me until the other day when I was mentioned on Twitter, followed the link, and got to see exactly what it was. Then I went, "Ohhh! That's what she meant!" lol Next on my list is Slideshare. My Beat the Stress articles seem to be the most successful so I'll use those. Maybe I should shift focus a little to stress management and parenting? =) Thanks, as always! I should just print out this list.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Delena, stress management and parenting seem like a really related areas to me :) Slideshare is really great, I only uploaded two slideshows by now, but I am satisfied with the numbers. What you can do is create a slideshow, upload it to Slideshare and then create a video out of that same slideshow and upload it to YouTube. It will take you only a few extra minutes, but you will get exposure on YT as well. I hope the Craigslist ads will help, if now with traffic than with some extra gigs! Thanks so much for the comment!
  120. Through the Lens of Kimberly Gauthier, Photography Blog says:
This is a fantastic list! I thought I had it covered, but I'm only half way there. I can't wait to tackle some of these. It can all get overwhelming at times, because there's so much information and so many resources out there. I would like to take advantage of Facebook and Google ads, but I'm not sure if they'll be worth the investment when compared to everything else out there. I just started guest posting, I have three due this weekend. And I'm going to start writing articles for Biznik.com - which is a great site and has put me in touch with loads of local people. Love it. The forums is an area that I just recently started dancing around it and I'm still finding my way. Thanks for sharing this great information.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Kimberly, thank you so much for such a comment. Facebook and Google ads are great, if you know what you are doing. I could never get Google ads perfect so I didn't have as great results as some other people I know. When it comes to Facebook ads, they were great for my niche site and I loved the results. You, as a photographer, can get so much traffic from Flickr. If you are not sure how to do it, go to Traffic Generation Cafe blog, I posted a guest post over there, about getting traffic from Flickr. Forums are great, although can be a bit time consuming :) Thanks again and can't wait to see your results from the newly found traffic sources!
  121. Kent says:
Wow... a huge list. And a hugely useful list. Most of these traffic sources are obviously well known and I visit them often. But some are places that I do not normally travel in (amplify, fluther, blogengage). I need to get out and try them now. Thx
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Kent, thanks so much for the comment. I love diversifying my traffic sources / link building (doesn't it come to the same thing, lol). I think you will really like all these and BlogEngage, as well as the other voting sites are great places to build links, get traffic and get connected with other bloggers in your niche.
  122. Bill Dorman says:
Like a fine wine, this post just keeps getting better with age. This might jsut end up being in the running for the best post of all time. You still rock.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
You saw my tweet, didn't you...admit it :) Thanks Bill, I am still promoting it, hoping to get more votes, retweets, diggs, etc, but it gets harder with time. No matter how good, long or useful any post is, people always want fresh, fresh, fresh :) Well, I hope to be able to push it a bit more and be one of the winners :)
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Bill you're here too :) LOL. Good to see you! I would have to agree with you on that one my friend. This post rocks and so does Brankica! I just had to hop in here and say that. I will have this post bookmarked till the end of days haha. Cheers
  123. David says:
Hi Brankica, Really hard pressed to come up with #51 here as it's such an extensive list. Quite a few of my customers have had success driving traffic and awareness with Groupon recently. By setting up special offers they are able to get real people through the doors too. Just by asking people to quote the coupon code when they fill in the contact us form, or when they pick up the phone, it's a great way of tracking success. Still getting my head around how this could be used my an online only business, but for a brick and mortar with a web presence it's a nice little option.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey David, glad you liked it and hope you will find a way to put these tips to good use. Groupon seems like a good idea, it can probably be used as a great way to get traffic to your site too, not just people through the door :) I am having some ideas as I type this comment!
  124. Sathishkumar says:
Brankica, This is certainly a huge list. I have used many of them for my blog, but still I have missed like 15+ traffic resources. Thanks for sharing this huge list. I gonna print this article and paste in my to-do board.Sathish
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Satish, I am so glad I managed to give you some 15+ new ideas :) I have this printed out too, to remind me when ever I get stuck with ideas. Thanks so much for the comment!
  125. Lampica says:
Awesome, really needed this list. I recently started making lenses on Squidoo and must learn so many things about blogging and getting more traffic for my lenses. This will help a lot. Thank you so much!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Lampica, thanks for the comment. I hope you will get a lot of traffic to your lenses and welcome to the online world :) If you get stuck with anything I am always available to help so we can communicate on Twitter or through my blog :)
  126. Marcus Baker says:
Hi Brankica, Wow what an awesome list! Thank you. Bookmarked and shared of course. I hope it's true that we need less sleep when we get older as I'm going to need all the time I can to honor your brilliance. :) ~Marcus
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Marcus, I am sorry to tell you that I think that sleeping thing is a myth, lol. I think the only reason we sleep less it that we get caught up in this blogging so hard we don't notice when is it day and when is it time to go to bed. But I am glad you liked the post :)
  127. Mark says:
Brankica, what a valuable post you've contributed here! These are all great methods for driving traffic to your website. Here's two more suggestions: 1. Write Amazon reviews on products/books related to your website and sign those comments with your name, the name of your blog, and its URL. You can even do video reviews now and mention your blog as part of your qualifications to review a particular book or product. 2. QR codes on flyers. People can scan these with their phone and be sent directly to your blog. I'm seeing these all over the city lately linking to things like bus schedules, Foursquare pages, and what not. Once again, thanks for this post!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Those two ideas are great. I didn't know you are allowed to post links to you Amazon reviews! That is great to know, I already have some ideas in my head about this :) QR codes are definitely something to start using ASAP, too. With all the new gadgets and technology being developed, the sooner you start using it, the better results we can get :) Thanks for such an awesome comment!
  128. Pavan says:
I've not read the full post as it's too long. Have read first few points. I will come back to read as this points are going to be more useful for me to get more visitors to my blog on tech.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
I hope you will be back to implement some of these techniques. I don't think it is too long considering how much more could have been written about this, lol.
      • Pavan says:
Yes its not that long as compared to how much you can write about this. But I felt it a long post( not very long) to read.
        • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi Pavan, I would agree that it's a long post - but some posts are just worth the read no matter how long they are - especially this one since it's loaded with useful resources. I've actually bookmarked it and I plan to read it a few times over in hopes of putting these great tips to use. All in all - it's not length that matters - it's how a post is presented and the information that it contains within. If a writer can keep me captivate or entertained during the entire thing - then I'm willing to read it regardless of how long or short it is. Just my opinion :). Have a great week. Cheers
  129. Bill Dorman says:
I've been sending out stamped self addressed reply cards...........that hasn't been going so well so maybe it shouldn't be # 51............... Hey, I'm doing a few of these; I need to get away from looking at it like a minefield and more as a u-pick-em strawberry patch. Good stuff as always Brankica; you still rock and lookie there, I didn't even leave any lipstick on your butt..............:)
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Lol, lipstick...that was a good one and I know why you said it. At least we are not talking Hollywood teeth anymore, ha ha. Bill, these are definitely strawberries and you better pick one by one. If you implement only two of these a month the traffic will pick up slowly. Imagine doing more than 2 a month!
  130. hatim says:
hi this was one hell of a useful article. I mean seriously I will use few of this method to drive traffic to my blog. thanks a lot. liked it alot.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Hatim, I am so happy you liked it and that you will use it. I would love to hear your results after implementing some of these techniques so be sure to come back with some updates :) Thanks for the comment!
    • Pavan says:
Hatim, I agree with you. I read few points and found it interesting and felt this tips will help me in generating decent traffic. I always hesitated to guest post. After reading the first few points, now I'm much motivated to write a guest post and generate traffic to my blog.
      • Brankica Underwood says:
Pavan, you should definitely do that.
  131. Jym says:
Brilliant stuff Brankica! This is a very comprehensive overview of major traffic generation strategies. My guess is that nobody will actually need to use all of them! Identifying a few which are relevant to your particular niche and fit the vision you have for your blog is the way to go. Awesome post, loads of value in there... Well done! All the best, Jym
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Jym, thanks a bunch :) Yeah, I don't think everyone need to use each and every one of these, especially at the beginning. But I do find the list useful for those with "older" blogs. When you are thinking "Where else can I go to get more people to see my blog". That is what I do with my first website. Again, I agree with the part of identifying the ones that will work the best, so we don't spend too much time getting no results. Thanks so much for the comment
  132. ashwin shahapurkar says:
i can feel the hard work behind this post. very usefull. full support from my side. learnt many things from this post. and i had to share this post with my friends. thanks.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Ashwin thanks for sharing it and I am very happy you like it. Seeing all these comments and nice compliments shows me that the harder I work the better I feel :) Hope you will get something out of this post!
  133. JamestheJust says:
I'm not in the contest, but if I was - I'd be SKEEEEERED. This was awesome, really - there were MAYBE 3 things I knew... The rest was new. I'm lame that way. The great thing about this is that as a blogger - you've covered ideas I've never thought of...I get my traffic mostly from SEO (not on my blog, but in my websites which are product based review sites) - but there's enough meat in this post I can use for my niche sites to keep me in the black, so to speak (ink I mean, not socks). Awesome post, Brankica - I'm speechless. (If you ignore the foregoing paragraph.)
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey James, I LOLed at your comment. In a good way of course. What do you mean you knew about 3 things!? You better get to work then. Just kiddin'. Glad you liked the list and hope you will put it to use. And if you do, I really hope to hear some feedback on how it worked for you. These tips are awesome for websites like those, I have some of those. You should definitely give this list a go, I first tested all these on my main niche site and then on my blog. I can tell you that these sources can make miracles if they are used right.
      • JamestheJust says:
Just to follow up: I'm broadcasting this post to my list (don't get too excited, I only started with my list building like a week ago!). I think it's THAT important! Awesome.
        • Brankica Underwood says:
You crack me up. Hey lists are important no matter how big or small they are. And it is an honor to be broadcasted to one :) Thanks
  134. Sheila Atwood says:
Brankica,Oh my gosh girl you have really covered traffic generation. This enough to keep us all busy for awhile.I have been doing some offline advertising that work. I think the best one has been wearing Tshirt that invites people to site. It is a catchy domain name that they have to remember and go home and type in. I am amazed at how many people actually do it.Thanks for the new ideas.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Sheila, I think offline marketing can work amazing, as long as the URL is catchy and easy to remember, as you say. I am sorry that I messed up some people's plans of blog development with these new traffic generation ideas, but if they get some results from it, I am sure gonna be glad! Thanks for the comment and hope to hear some good feedback from you :)
  135. Bishwajeet says:
Awesome list of traffic sources, I think I haven't even tried even half of them
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thanks Bishwajeet, and I can already see you being busy trying them out :) Hope you have some nice results if you do!
  136. Julia Hayes says:
Brankica, So far 223 Comments. No wonder ! This post is SO full of rich content. Thank you for such distilled and valuable content. Just yesterday I said I didn't know what SlideShare is. Now I know. Here's an off-beat traffic source #551 not mentioned yet: Free off-line advertising. Have your blog URL and logo printed on magnetic signs (DL envelope size) and stick it on both sides of your car/family cars. Depending on how clogged your roads are, there'll be a few hundred more people see your blog address every week. We've done it for our solar website and get many comments.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Julia, thanks so much for the comment. I just saw the idea you were talking about, that is awesome. I think you are right cause although it seems a bit inconvenient, I personally wrote down a few URL like that in my cell phone or notebook to check it out when I am back at the computer. Wow, this is something I need to think about. Also, how about those big billboards?
  137. Peppy says:
Branica, I wasn't sure what to expect - part of me thought about skimming the article because I figured it would 'read' as all the other articles on generating traffic - I was WRONG! I slowed my skimming and started reading - you made the otherwise sterile information interesting while your pace infused a sense of excitement ... so much so that I want to implement everything you suggested and I have, I guess, what you would consider a niche blog. Thanks for the lists along with your insights on their value, etc. I came upon this article through Blog Interact - and glad to have found you. Peppy
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Peppy, I am glad you found this post too :) I wanted to write it in even more details but it was getting so long I thought if I add one more word, no one would read it, lol. I tried all these traffic generation sources, some worked miracles some were so and so. But I can bet everyone can find winners here. Actually all these sources can work miracles, it all depends on what you find more natural to do. I am for example really slow with videos and still not comfortable making them so YouTube doesn't bring thousands of people to my blog. It brings some. But when it comes to answer sites, I had so much success with some of them, that I just have to recommend them. Blog commenting is working better as I learn to write better titles, so people click on my Comment Luv links. Anyway, thanks so much for the great comment and hope to hear some feedback from you, about how there worked out on your blog.
  138. Gibson Goff - The Enlightened Traveler says:
WOW! I started reading and got to the part about Flickr. I was compelled to just write a comment at that point, then come back and digest the rest. Suffice it to say I'm printing this article out, 3 hole punching it and putting it in the big ol' binder next to my desk for reference. Good work, Brankica! Good work!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Gib, I am so glad you liked it. I listed all the traffic sources I have tried in the past and had some nice results with them. I saw many interesting ones in the comments as well. Seems our blogging to do lists are getting longer and longer :) Thanks so much for the comment!
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey Gibson, What an awesome idea - PRINT! I really wish some of these list posts had that option sometimes. I'm still one of those old fashioned people that likes to print things out and manually cross off and stuff. Plus I really miss hole punching stuff to put in a binder - these days it's all about bookmarking and Instapaper lol. I might steal your idea and print it out myself hehe :). Hope you don't mind me dropping in here but just had to say that. Hey Hesham - that would be an awesome idea - to have a print button somehow on posts - or maybe list posts. What do you think? Yes? No? Maybe? haha Cheers guys
  139. Bryan Hollis says:
Brankica, Gooooood...ness! Where to start giving you props on this VERY well developed post. Absolutely brilliant. You have covered so much, so many areas and done it extremely well. Two items that grabbed me the most, as I have commented time and again about where I got my blogging start, and that is through freelance writing. So, I have always limited myself by using this form of media. Video / photo journalism are brilliant forms of communication, but I've always said, "Ah, that's for someone else..." And I noticed that you lightly touched on e-zines (article submissions). These will become viable again as they make adjustments. Anyway, I could go on forever. Again, you have done a fantastic job with this post. All the best, Bryan
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Bryan, thanks for the awesome comment. When it comes to videos and photos I kinda have the same feeling like you do, but when ever I do and see some great traffic coming from it, I kinda kick my self in the ...you know... I think article marketing will go on and on, I never had problems with it cause I always approached those articles as I do my own blog posts. So I think, as you say after the adjustment, there will be more of article traffic generation. Thank you so much for the nice words!
  140. Dan says:
This blog should be highlighted everywhere. Great solid information that can be used daily. There are no short suggestions requiring buying or joining something else. Thanks for this help.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Dan, glad you liked it. I love this blog as well and I am so proud my post was published here. I hope you will get some good traffic generation ideas from it :)
  141. Wayne says:
OMG and for the love of God, this is truly one amazing post! Not because of the content, because I have already commented on that somewhere in this mass of 200+ comments. the content is great...the fact that I continue to get emails from each and every comment ever made on this post since I commented is telling me that I need to remember to shut off the subscriptions eventually. You did one hell of a job on this post though...this really is a kick-ass list.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Wayne, sorry for being so rude to your inbox, lol, but I am glad the comments keep coming in. I really think it is useful to have lists like this to remind you of stuff you might wanna try out. I always try to keep lists like this one in a single file and just add new traffic sources as I learn about them. Thanks for the awesome comment :)
      • Wayne John says:
My inbox will be fine...this one is just reminding me every day that I should control my subscriptions a little better. hahaha
        • Brankica Underwood says:
I once subscribed to a thread on Site Sketch 101 and it was a game where there were supposed to be hundreds of comments. You can imagine how many e-mails I got in an hour! Nick (the blog author) was laughing at me, cause, like he said, that really was a major fail. I would just call it a dumb thing what I did over there, lol! But who would know there will be so many comments here anyway. I was hoping for some but did not expect this many. Well, now I do hope I will get even more :)
  142. Danny Brown says:
You know, a lot of blog posts promise to show you how to grow your blog and bring traffic in. And then they go and copy/paste a bunch of other bloggers, change two or three words, and then publish. Then wonder why no-one read, commented or shared. Somehow I don't think you'll have this problem, Brankica - this is one of the most solid pieces on traffic generation around. Great stuff, miss, and something every blogger can take something away from.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Danny, thank you so much. I always blush when I get some nice compliment like this, from you, cause you are definitely one of my blogging heroes :) I really appreciate that you took the time to write this comment and share the post. I try to write about stuff I tried and tested, good or bad, and I hope I won't ever end up in that "copy/paste" group of bloggers. Again, thank you and comments like these make me just wanna push forward :)
  143. Kazia says:
Awesome resource! Full of fantastic tips. I'm gonna pick my top 5 and give them a spin next week. I'll let you know how it went.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Kazia, with your busy schedule, I can't wait to see your spin! I hope you make a big difference with 5 sources you choose. Can't wait to see the results. Considering that I should work on my traffic a bit more, I am so gonna wait and copy your success, lol. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it!
  144. Ben Wan says:
Hi Brankica, You nicely sum up 50 sources of web traffic, I know I don't use all of them, but I can start to use them now. You've nicely put on one place 50 great places to get backlinks from. It's good to have various sources of traffic, that's like not putting all the eggs in one basket. I also hear that having links from a multiple sources and from across the world is also good for SEO. Ben Wan
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Ben, thanks so much for the comment. You are completely right about the SEO side of these traffic sources. It is great to have different links incoming, if they are from many different sources and even mixed dofollow and some nofollow, they look more natural to the search engines hence they should bring more "points".
  145. Leah Baade says:
Thanks for this resource, Brankica. These are all things that bloggers should be constantly taking advantage of. A great reminder!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Leah, you are more than welcome. I hope it will help everyone to have a list like this already prepared so they can just jump in traffic generation without having to dig out new ways :)
  146. Carry says:
I really like this list. I use Yahoo Answers a lot too and get traffic. I will join networked blogs today and try that tip. Btw, I posted ads on Craigslist before, got a lot of traffic and I agree with that idea. Thanks for the great list, I will use it a lot.
  147. Cosmin Stefan says:
Hello Brankica! You bring some great ideas to the table. The part about answer sites is especially very interesting.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thanks, Cosmin, I think so too. I really used Yahoo A. a lot and tried the other sites as well. Depending on how much work you put in, it can have big impact on your traffic. Even if you start using one new traffic source every two weeks, you can still see nice results because the ball will start rolling :)
  148. Michael Brenner says:
Brankica, Great post. I use some of these techniques but have never seen them all listed in one place. I need to go get busy working some of these tips into my routine. Thanks for the resource. Best, Michael @brennermichael
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Michael, thanks so much for the comment. After this post, I decided to revamp my traffic generation strategy and work more on the existing sources and work a bit more on the ones I was not using that much. I saw results almost from the first day. This list is good because of the diversity of the ideas, cause if one thing doesn't work for you, there has to be another one that will sky rocket your stats :)
  149. Christy Smith says:
This was an extremely comprehensive, well-thought out list Brankica! I would never have thought of eBay or Craigslist- so I thought your spin on that is interesting. I would definitely recommend this list to any newbie blogger. :) So it took me awhile to come up with a #51 just because you seemed to cover everything-lo. It's an angle on the answering questions- volunteer to be interviewed on your niche for other bloggers or on a site like HARO. If you provide some great value, it is the next logical step for something to visit your site to learn more about you. Great work!!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Christy, thanks so much for the comment and I hear about this HARO thing for the first time. I am definitely going to have to check it out. I have this OCD (lol) that as soon as I hear about something new, I gotta join and try it out. This is officially the new item on my to do list that now has only 563 bullet points. Just kiddin', although we all have long to do lists I always find extra time to see what are the things other bloggers talk about. Thanks so much again :)
  150. TheBaldOldMan says:
As usual, Branika puts her knowledge and advice where her keyboard is and we get it loud and clear. Thanks, great post, a few in there that we all tend to overlook.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Thanks TheBaldOldMan, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I hope you got some new ideas on traffic generation and that I will hear about it on Twitter, as a big announcement or something like that :)
  151. Deb Prewitt says:
Wow. What a lot of information. And I definitely didn't know about many of them. I am only a beginner blogger, so this was a very helpful article. Thanks so much.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Deb, I am so glad you found this article helpful. I really hope you will find some strategies to get the most out of these traffic sources. Hope you will be back with some feedback :)
  152. chaitanya Battaluri says:
Hey Brankica, This is a great post. I loved it. I am a newbie in the world of blogging just 1 month old. I am really happy with my blogging. The problem here is that, i get a very less amount of traffic and almost no comments at all. I will try some of your tips you have given here and then tell you how it really worked out for me. Thanks , it was a lot of information which i never ever heard. hope it will be useful for me. Thanks again, for the greatest post i have ever read
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Chaitanya, thanks so much for the great words. Since your blog is new, you should not worry about traffic, cause it is pretty normal not to have much of it when you just start. But it is up to you to work on getting more of it. You say you are gonna try some of these tips and I hope you will. Of course, I will be waiting for the feedback. Don't forget to include some SEO in your posts and write more good content so the people that visit you first time, keep coming back. If you get stuck, you can always contact me through my blog! Thanks again for such a nice compliment about my post!
  153. Prashant Rohilla says:
Thanks for sharing such varied sources to generate traffic, i personally like the question and answer trick
    • Brankica Underwood says:
You are welcome, Prashant, and I hope you will try them out and tell me how they worked out for you. If you do it right, you can get so much traffic!
  154. Delena Silverfox says:
What about Twithelp? I just discovered them, and went a little hog wild posting answers for people with various natural parenting questions. I'm afraid I might've spammed my feed, I was having so much fun. Oops. =) I like the Craigslist idea, as well. Even though right now I don't have any informational products to sell or for free download on my blog yet, I started wondering if I shouldn't advertise there as a natural parenting consultant, and offer to visit people's homes or meet them for an hour or two of consult with their little ones. I could do this locally very, very easily! Thanks again, Brankica! (I promise, I'm not stalking you! lol) Delena
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Delena, I am not worried about you stalking me, I like it :) I think you can advertise any service on Craigslist. The idea you have is awesome. Not only you can point your ad to your blog but also make some extra cash. And instead just going locally, I am sure there is something you can do worldwide, like give people advice over Skype or something. Thanks for the awesome comment and the twithelp suggestion.
  155. Rebbie says:
You've offered a whole course here! Thank you. I'll be back.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hello Rebbie, no, no, no. Definitely not the whole course, lol. I sure hope I have more to add and if you need fast help and don't want to wait for more info on my blog, you can always shoot me an e-mail :) Nice to meet you here and so happy to see you liked it :)
  156. Wendy MacKay says:
Great article with so much information I would like to re-visit this often. This could be an opt-in article as a download. Thank you for the value.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Wendy, thanks so much for such a nice comment. I think you are right :) I do have a book on my blog already, but I will work on something as interesting as this to add to my newsletter subscribers :)
  157. Maketta says:
Hello Brankicka, This is a very extensive list of helping one get traffic. I, too like using answer sites. They are very helpful and they come up in the search engines. Great blog post!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
I could not agree more with you. I found my answers on Google's first page so many times, thanks to Yahoo Answers. That is one of the reasons why answer sites bring me so much traffic - because they come up on first page of Search engines very often. thanks so much for the comment!!
  158. Lucas says:
Hi, Brankica. This is a wonderful list of resources to generate high traffic. I find it very useful for my traffic generation campaign. I hope you'll publish more useful articles like this one in the future. Thanks Lucas Sindo
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Lucas, thanks a bunch for the comment and I really hope this will give some boost to your traffic. I will have more useful articles and if you need any help with some of this, you can always contact me through my blog :)
  159. georgia says:
Just wanted to apologize for spelling your name wrong. Sorry Brankica!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
No problem, Georgia :) If that is your name it is awesome, cause I am GA and lovin' it! Thanks for the great comment!
  160. georgia says:
This is amazing. Kudos' to you for your efforts Branika!

Brankica, Excellent list. The only one I could think of is mentioning through email to family and friends. Example: Hey Guys and Gals, Sorry I haven't been in touch for a while. I've been working my tail off building something I hope will be special. I would appreciate it if you could do me a huge favor. My blog is still new and I need some opinions on where it can improve. Let me know the good, bad and ugly:) Also, can you pass it along to some of your friends? The more opinions the better idea I have at what works and what doesn't. etc. Thanks for the post. Live it LOUD!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Rob, that is a great idea :) I was thinking about the same thing to do on Facebook. With a few hundreds of friends, it might bring some extra traffic! Thanks for the comment and a great idea!
  162. Chris says:
Excellent write up - there is so much information that is useful and can def. help me promote my new site. It is always hard when starting a new blog but with these tips, I am sure that I can increase traffic to my blog thanks! Chris
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Chris, I really hope it will help you sky rocket your traffic. Try one by one so you can track what's working for you and what isn't. Hope to get some feedback from you and see how you implemented some of these tips!

Brankica: I am taking your advice with these sites and trying to avoid spending too much on adwords. I am really challenging myself to keep adding more content so that I can increase traffic that way--good keywords, links and presell. Yes, I am also thinking of reviewing the advice from Ken Evoy more frequently.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
You should definitely listen to than man. He knows what is working and that is why all the SBI sites are so successful (at least for those that actually apply his tips, lol). Not going to tell you what to do, but try other free sources before spending on Adwords. I actually think ADW is great for landing pages, where you are selling something that will make you a nice amount of money, but it is hard to get them to work if you are not an expert. Actually what I am trying to say is that if you are trying to just get more traffic, blog commenting would be much better. OK, all the free resources need time, but they can often convert better than others. PreSell and SEO the SBI way are a guarantee of a successful site (talking from experience here). Thanks for the comment and waiting for more feedback :)

You quite literally blew me away. I'm going to save this and come back to it, EVERYTIME , I run out of ideas, like everyday Talk about "over deliver", you killed it. Awesomeness
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Stacey, thanks so much! Just don't do what I would usually do and that is try all at once :) I usually spend days trying to do stuff and realize it would be faster if I just do one by one, lol. Thanks for the comment and hope you can use some of this to rock !
  165. Maky says:
Wow Brankica, what a list! Completely and utterly usable list that I am sure to apply in my niche. Very detailed post especially as you stated how to make the most of even the well known ones. We usually overlook the offline traffic generation forgetting that once upon a time, there was no internet. Slideshare sounds like something I could use. This post is unbeatable! Good job!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Maky, thanks for the kind words. Haven't seen you in awhile. Have you been busy with some special projects? Slideshare is great because a lot of people are getting tired of reading posts and like colorful slideshows. Glad you liked the post and make sure to tell me how SS worked out for you!
      • Maky says:
Yes I am trying to organize some things around here. I will be back in full force soon!
        • Brankica Underwood says:
Oh, I can't wait to see what are you up to :)

Great post..! I think Commenting is one of the best way to generate traffic.. And I thought to give a try in Yahoo! Answers but didn't got time.. But soon I am going to give a try in Yahoo! Answers..
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Saket, commenting is a great way to get fresh eyes on your blog. However, if you choose smart which blog to comment on then it can be one of the best ways to generate traffic. Yahoo Answers is a great traffic source and you should stop by my blog in next few days, I will be sharing some of my traffic generation tactics.

Great awesome article till now its the best one I ever read for traffic generation on web and on this contest as well can be converted into an ebook too with few addons like there is a site for video starting with m cant recall the name feeling damn sleepy reading all this articles since hours, and sites like redgage and arranging giveaways depending on your site niche
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Neeraj, thanks for the awesome compliment. I am so glad you liked it. There are many possibilities for this post, like turning it into a PDF download or something. I hope I can use it for more ideas after the contest. Thanks for helping me come closer to be one of the winners.
  169. Leo Widrich says:
Hi Brankica, I can only agree with Kirsti's first comment. This is one awesome resource I know I will be going back to a lot! I especially want to look into the services like blogengage or serpd as I haven't done anything on there yet. Seems very useful to me. Great job you did on promoting this post too. Many thanks for a great post Brankica.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Leo, glad you liked it. You should definitely checkout those services, they are great for bloggers and I am pretty sure you can find a lot of use from them for your service. I am pretty sure there is a way to guest post there as well. Anyway, thanks for the comment and nice to see you here as well :)

You are giving some great advice to use for increasing readership and loyal followers. I am trying to include 2-3 sources from each of your list categories so that I have a balanced approach to increasing traffic. Right now I am learning Stumble Upon and Squido.com. Although I submit articles to Ezine, I think my keywords are not strong enough to get a good click through rate. I am getting better about writing articles with strong keywords now; sort of fell off the pace of that when I started using a lot of guest authors :( Thanks for your great insights and check list for increasing traffic, Brankica!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Ann, thanks so much for the comment. It is hard to do SEO on guest posts without either asking them to do it themselves or changing their article (which no one likes). If you need any help with SEO or something, feel free to contact me. I hope you will find a few traffic sources here that will bring you loads of new readers :)
  171. Sean says:
Wow, there's so much potential that I wasn't even aware of in terms of generating traffic. Thanks so much for this! Bookmarked! :)
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Sean, thanks for the comment. There are some great suggestions in the comments as well, don't miss them :)
  172. Amber says:
Adwords is how we get most of our current traffic. But the options you mentioned will really help us build up our organic traffic. The more places you have links and the more you truly engage you audience the better!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey, Amber, I hope this might save you some Adwords money. I think it can be a great source of traffic but adds up pretty fast and becomes real expensive. I like using it for a campaign like list building or making sales. Besides that, I could not get my money's worth. Thanks so much for the comment.
  173. Alex says:
Woah Brankica. I came over to support you because you are a good friend and you deserve it, but now that I am here, I am supporting you because this post is friggin insane!!! Fark, so glad I am NOT in this contest now, how could I compete with this?!?! Honestly Brankica, this post deserves to win because its genuinely one of the most thorough and easy to digest posts on traffic generation that I have EVER read. Respect
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Aw, Alex, thank you so much!! I am blushing honestly. I was really scared of entering the contest and thought about it over and over. It was hard to enter the first one (which this is for me). Oh by the way, I am glad you haven't entered it too, with your writing, I am not sure you would not kick my azz :)
  174. Lisa Irby says:
Brankica, you never disappoint. Good article. I think a lot of people sleep on Yahoo Answers. I don't get the traffic I used to get from it, but my SBI! site is still getting handfuls of traffic from questions I answered years ago!
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Lisa, thanks so much for the comment, you know how much I appreciate it. I also still get traffic from questions I answered a long time ago. The best traffic I get is from those that were chosen as best answers. A lot of those are some general questions in the niche so they come up a lot in searches.
  175. Kristi says:
This is one jam packed post, and you're doing a heck of a job promoting it from what I can tell! :) Great job - I'm going to check out a few sites on this list I haven't heard of before.
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Kristi, when it comest to promotion, I learned from the best ;) Thanks for the comment, means a lot to me!
  176. Virendra Singh says:
Thanks for sharing such important information. I will definitely get benefit from these information. Regards Virendra Singh
    • Brankica Underwood says:
I hope you will, Virendra, and thank you for the comment!
  177. Mavis Nong says:
Hey Brankica, Wow, what an amazing post, packed with incredible sources of traffic. No more excuses if there are so many places to tap into to generate traffic. This is definitely the most popular post in the contest. Well done, girl! :) Thanks for sharing your insights. I have picked up a few sources that I haven't used before. All the best, Mavis
    • Brankica Underwood says:
Hey Mavis, thanks for that :) I wrote down all the ideas from the comments as well so there are at least 65 ideas now, lol. I just wish we all had more time in a day to really work on all of them. I guess all that testing and tracking comes now so we can focus on the best for our blogs. But do I even need to say how much I hate testing and tracking.
  178. Matthew says:
Thank you for this list of traffic generation strategies. It's good to use different strategies to make it look more natural to the search engines. I'm sure nobody should have a problem now with thinking of ways to drive traffic because of this list provided. Thanks Matthew
