How To Find Good Forums In Your Niche

March 3, 2011 - Last Modified: February 18, 2013 by Edwin 16,750

Forum Marketing

If you have been in the internet marketing niche for some sum of time you should already know that forums are a great source of traffic. What makes forums so awesome? Forums have a large amount of people, concentrated in one place, who all have the same common interests. What if you could funnel them onto your site?

Imagine the potential traffic you could be getting right now. Now you understand why forums are so great 🙂

Now first things first, how do you find forums related to your niche. It is exactly quite simple. I am going to discuss a few ways you can do so.

The Google Method

This method requires you going to Google.com . Once you are there type the following search term or code into it.

INSERT NICHE HERE + FORUM

Lets break it down a bit. The first part of the code requires you to put in your niche or market. The next part just tells Google to put out sites which have the word forum in it.

Pretty simple, huh? Now lets delve into the next method.

The Website Method

There are sites on the Internet which were made to help people find forums. These sites have a ton of code built in which try to find all possible forums related to your niche as possible. They act as forum directories.

The sites are called Big-Boards, and BoardReader. When you visit them all you have to do is put in your niche, market, or even the keywords of forums you want it to pull up.

These sites are quite helpful and work a little better than the Google method.

find discussion forums in your niche

Conclusion

Now that you know the importance of forums go out and join some today. Remember to never spam or overly promote yourself. Make sure the forums allow signatures so you can get some traffic pointing back to your site.

Always participate and be active and the traffic will come.

Good stuff! I honestly had no idea about the two forum search engines so I'm going to go over there now. I'm not commercial - I run a poetry blog (very good on-line stuff!) but I like to engage with people. Thanks for this!

I used the same method also but I just wanted to clarify, do you put the "+" sign at the center of Niche and forum? or just niche forum?

Hello Edwin, Finding niche forums is very important. One of the reasons I like to search for niche forums is because they give you great ideas for posts on your niche blogs. Usually the idea comes in the form of a question that somebody asks. Thanks for the Big-Boards suggestion. I am going to go check it out...:) Mark

I'd never thought of actively looking for forums, I usually just stumble on them, as I did with yours. I think I ended here from reading a blog post where someone else had mentioned your post. My trouble with forums is I spend way to much time reading them, (all in the name of self education mind you) & being taken away from the task at hand. It's almost like you have to "treat" yourself with an hour or so of forum time, AFTER the work is done!

  24. Grady Pruitt says:
Thanks for sharing those sites. I had been looking for a couple of places to find forums to look at.And I completely agree about the promotion. Too often, people fail to follow the rules of the forum and spam the forum from the start. Often, these people will just create an account to try and get there link in there. Most forum operators, particularly the good ones with lots of activity, will delete at least the link (if not the post) if you are below that forum's threshold (usually either 25 or 50 posts). And with most forums, meeting that minimum is very easy to do.Also, take the time to engage the forums. Even if they are protected (IE can only be viewed if you are logged in), you can still get traffic from them over time if you are engaging the community and providing helpful information. Thanks again for the resources!
  25. Sabrina says:
Thanks for the tips. In the past I have been able to find a few forums, but they were not very active. I will definitely look into using these methods.
  26. AJ says:
The google-method is definitely the best way. And you can try different variations like "niche + help" or "niche + support". Sometimes there are smaller forums trying to rank for those keywords instead of the broader "forum" term. Forums can be a great way to get some extra traffic/money, but as you say DON'T spam it. People will for sure report you and you will get banned. So keep it clean guys and good luck!

Great post on forum marketing. Forums have been a huge part of my marketing from the start, and I have had a lot of success with them. One thing that I like to do is look for membership sites within my niche that also have active forums. I have paid for membership sites just to get found in the forums, and I spend a lot of time in those paid forums helping people. This is a great way to get proven buyers coming to your site, and onto your mailing list.
  29. Mani Viswanathan says:
Ah. You reminded me of Forums. Time to again start focusing on link building via forums :)

  31. Andreas says:
Another good tip is to ask your niche experts on twitter, which forums they recommend. Personal reference is often better than blind shots on google.
  32. Fisayo Sanyaolu says:
Great article Edwin, i'll be checking on the site you listed and the google method. Thanks for sharing
    • Edwin says:
Sounds good Fisayo. Good luck and thanks for commenting
  33. TJ McDowell says:
In my niche, there were forums, but no good do-follow forums, so I created one. It's been slow getting started though.
    • Edwin says:
Sorry to hear that. Maybe my two methods can help you out, if not good luck with your forum. Thanks for commenting
  34. Mike says:
If I were you, I certainly wouldn't search for a forum because sometimes, even a niche forum can be vague. For instance, internet marketing forum like WarriorForum contains all kinds of topics. So, my opinion is, after you search for a forum, you need to search inside that as well and track it down to the specific threads to leave comments in there. :)
    • Edwin says:
Good tip. You made a good point because its true some forums might not be worth your time. Thanks for commenting
  35. Chuck says:
Good article, Edwin. Personally, I've found using LinkedIn and Facebook groups to be highly effective in reaching out to others who share the same interests...would you consider these forums? I have noticed that some forums consist primarily of long message threads (which I have found to be very tedious to try and participate in effectively); are there certain types of forums that are more effective than others?
    • Edwin says:
In their own way yes they can be forums as well. They might not be as effective though because you might come across as spam. And to your question of which forums are more effective I cant really tell you. You just got to go out and explore and see if its worth your time. Is it active, hows the traffic? Stuff like this is important. Thanks for commenting
  36. The Bad Blogger says:
