Why Bloggers Lie about Making Money Online and their Blog Traffic

January 24, 2010 - Last Modified: January 25, 2010 by Hesham Zebida

blog lies

Why some bloggers lie about their blog revenue and the amount of unique visitors they have? Is it another way to get attention of internet advertisers? I don’t think so because if you think this way then you must be dumb, and your blogging way will not take you to anywhere. Then what is the real reason?! Why someone will lie about this information while anyone can fetch his blog using a free tool or a website that provide states service.

Who do you expect to believe you?

I was thinking why someone start a new blog and write a high quality professional blog posts with tones of valuable information describing how he is getting 1000 unique visitors per day and making $100 daily and oh! Yeah they story of how he worked out to get his blog ranked high on search engines and how fast Google cashes his blog posts. You know what was the deal? Absolutely fake posts and fake blog, all what it has a 20 posts of crap and a blog worth nothing!

Oh boy!

I was shocked today while taking a tour on the internet checking some main webmasters discussion forums and what people (bloggers) say and discuss about. It’s funny and sad at the same time, I will not mention the forum or the bloggers just because it will not make a big difference for you, the thing is what we can learn from that lesson!

Write the truth and only the truth

I got it now! Those bloggers are creating a perfect blog, a prefect blog that doesn’t exits in our blogosphere, but they are making it some how, they are building a blog, a perfect blog that start makes money from the day zero of blogging, they claim to make money from the first day and end with making more money everyday. They are giving the best tips from their own (fake) experiences.

They are hiding something, yes.. they want to make money from the internet like others but they just look so perfect that you will fall in love with their blogs from the first look! Their blogs looks so perfect that it’s weird and makes me suspect what I read. The bad thing is they are cheating their readers in case they have any!

The real life of a newbie blogger

Yes I can go back on time and edit my old posts and add value to them and make them look more perfect, but I will never be able to learn this tip at the first a few month of blogging, because simple I will be busy trying to get ideas to write about, I will be busy writing new posts because I need to have content for my blog or socializing by commenting on other blogs,  I will be posting a guest post to boost my blog success, I will be testing and setting up new plugins and got my blog crashed because of that, and I am going to manage this and get some help from expert bloggers or other bloggers who started maybe one year before I did! Yes!.. This is the real life of bloggers when they first start a blog! We will be spending money not earning any money at least for a few months!

So PLZ don’t tell me lies! Just stop it!

They are effecting our atmosphere, they are destroying our blogosphere! Why they do that?

I look for the real way to earn money online, but failed. Quite a few web pages claim to tell you how to become rich, but I can't persuade myself to believe them. However, why do so many lies exist? We all count for the Internet reward us for our hard working, but, how? Does Google really make people rich? Online,Online,Does Online really can get money?Or--few,never!
    • Hesham Zebida says:
Hi Mary, I do my living from my online business, so yes.. this can be true! But I won't believe anyone say I can help you be rich, this is something you have to work hard for it! And, only you!
  2. satrap says:
I am glad someone finally has mentioned this issue. It really is sad that some bloggers go to any length to make themselves look successful. I guess most of them say such things thinking it would attract more people to their blogs. But, the funny thing is people aren't stupid, most people will easily spot those who aren't doing as well as they tell others they are.
  3. Jörgen Sundberg says:
Yup, I'm always skeptical about 'monthly earnings' being published - it must be to show how great that particular way of blogging is etc etc... .-= Jörgen Sundberg´s last blog ..Four Social Media Outposts You Ought to Have =-.

  5. Kathleen Maher says:
Hi Hesham, an excellent and insightful post as always. Personally, I'm always suspicious of perfection. A nice presentation is important but if it's real, it won't look like some marketing survey's idea of "perfect." It will reflect the personality of the writer. Some will find that personality more attractive than others, but that's the trade-off: quality vs. the mass giving a quick nod and moving on. You are one person whose honesty and open-minded sincerity always shows through. Liars and robotic types won't understand you or may even feel threatened. I love it when you write that numbers aren't everything. Meaning sticks in the mind; it lasts. .-= Kathleen Maher´s last blog ..Stage of Life =-.
    • Hesham says:
True! this is the first feeling comes to me when I visit a blog has big numbers and claiming to make big cash! I became more suspicious recently LOL!
  6. Dennis Edell says:
Actually many if not most do do it for advertisers, which is sad since like you said, it's too easy to Google the truth. Here's the thing...in the mid-late 90's when folks were really getting started with the whole online thing, the main motto WAS, "fake it 'till you make it". It worked for some time because people didn't know ant better, search engines didn't exost, and the like. Unfortunately, this is still done today and quite pathetically. .-= Dennis Edell´s last blog ..The Time Has Come. The Deal Is Done. It’s Time To Move!! =-.
    • Hesham says:
"fake it ’till you make it" .. cool! I like that .. yeah! but it's not working anymore on this age!
      • Dennis Edell says:
No it isn't and newbies need to be told this more. .-= Dennis Edell´s last blog ..Welcome Aboard Part 2! All The Info You’ve Been Waiting For… =-.
  7. Michele says:
I love the ones who put the fake counters on their sites and claim 6-figure visitors on a site that is only weeks old or has totally useless junk. I suspect too that many of these newly minted gurus have no idea how easy it is to evaluate the probable traffic that a site sees. .-= Michele@Blog About Crafts´s last blog ..Public Domain Patterns =-.
    • Hesham says:
LOL! they wish! but 6-figure visitors is a lot more than they can get!! Thanks for your opinion!
  8. JR says:
This is so sad and pathetic and purely obvious, like when you go to a blog that has the Feedburner widget that says 1200 subscribers and there are like 2 comments across the whole blog, totally obvious! .-= JR @ Internet Marketing´s last blog ..The Ultimate and Best Content Spinner Ever =-.

My favorites are those with the claims and ads and then decide to post their stats like it means something.....$4 adsense, $2 for this, $8 for that....WTF? LOL .-= Dennis Edell´s last blog ..The Time Has Come. The Deal Is Done. It’s Time To Move!! =-.

  9. Kristi Hines says:
I think some people think the way to make money blogging is to make everyone believe that you make money blogging, so those people will take your advice, buy your eBooks, subscribe to your mailing list, purchase products you affiliate with, etc., and then, if that works, they will have made money blogging. It also reminds of MLM pitches. Someone tells you they are making a ton of cash selling something, and they want to recruit you into the program so you can sell it. They may not be making money yet, but they will be because you will be going out and making it for them. It's almost like advertising your goal before it actually happens. .-= Kristi Hines´s last blog ..Best of #SMAZ – Blogging Tips, Social Media ROI, & SEO =-.
    • Hesham says:
Generous like always! I know when stumble our posts.. you really make difference! And.. you hit the right point, they trick readers by several ways, I have a big doubt about lots of blog with high number of subscribers, sometime those numbers are more than the people who are using the internet on the world LOL! naah just kidding.. what I mean is numbers of followers are so high that you think the whole world is interested in the topic of this blog or the niche of that blog, which not making any sense! although I can trust a stats of a blog like Mashable for example it's social media and everybody is really interested in it! mmm I wonder how to build a list of people who really follow us because they want!
  10. DiTesco says:
Most of these people invent their own stories because they want to call attention. Believe it or not, there are some that actually believe in their own lies and that is sad. Being legitimate and truthful is the only way to gain credibility in the blogosphere and once you earn that you are good. Great post, hopefully your readers will get the message..... .-= DiTesco´s last blog ..Using Alexa For Simplified SEO =-.

Hi Hesham :) After long time i an reading your posts :) :) Bloggers will never stop telling lie about their fake money making ideas , so we have to be smart in recognizing these liars :) :) ;) . 16. Alison Moore Smith says:
I completely agree, it's a funny thing when people try to making money by telling others how to make money -- when they haven't done it themselves. That said, however, I've seen many instances of Alexa being utterly, completely wrong. I don't trust its rankings at all. .-= Alison Moore Smith´s last blog ..Add a Linked Custom Header to Your WordPress Blog with Thesis Theme =-.
    • Hesham says:
Yeah! they don't anything to give, and maybe they copy from somewhere! Actually Alexa goes high when you post new daily, the traffic of this blog is between 200 - 300 , my other blogs stop raising while this one is going up because I update it almost everyday! although it's not a big factor for lots of bloggers but it's for me because I attend to make money from this blog (I hope)! Ah! I see that you have something for Thesis, let me check that out.
  17. Tycoon Blogger says:
you are on point with this one. I always laugh when I here bloggers make up stories. 18. Latief says:
Ha ha ha, you hate it so much didn't you bro??? People you telling lies on their blog is not blogger lier. That's why I never believe about blog that said you can get tons of traffic in one day or blog that said that you can get BIG CASH with their program, they are just salesman, lol! But we can stop them, just be careful about what you read and heard. Blogoshpere is full with lier with their own goal.
    • Hesham says:
Yeah! because we are trying to work hard on our blog to get position and they just claim fakes that maybe someone will believe!
      • Latief says:
Yes, hopping someone will buy their lies ha ha ha. If I can pick an article for the best article of the year, I'll pick this article. Bloggers must be an honest people who share knowledge and believe that we are unique and we all in fair competitions. We all here together, sharing and giving, even we are in the same niche. So all that lier not one of us, they are just lier bro, NOT BLOGGERS!
        • Hesham says:
Wow! Thanks Latief, I really appreciate your kind words.

  20. Ms. Freeman says:
This is definitely something that needed to be said, I is truly a laughable when newbies claim to be making money when clearly they are not. I being a newbie will never claim to be anything I am not, it is of no value to my readers and quite frankly it would make me look like an a$$. I don't even bother to read blogs that claim to be more than they really are, because why should I invest the time when they will be gone tomorrow. .-= Ms. Freeman´s last blog ..Does Banning Personal Internet Access in the Workplace Increase Productivity? =-.

  21. The Digital Life & Tools Blog says:
Right, it's the peer pressure effect. People are sheep, they want affirmation of their choices. If they come on to a new blog, they want to see that other people are reading it too. If other people are reading it, they'll read it, too, even if it's garbage. That's the psychology that bloggers who lie about blog traffic take advantage of. .-= The Digital Life & Tools Blog´s last blog ..Matt Mullenweg Creates the WordPress Foundation =-.
    • Hesham says:
Good point, but this will not last if they got one painful review from some blogger out there telling the world about those lies, and this is why I didn't mention that blog on my post! actually mentioning it is like promoting it because who ever read this post will be carouse to click the link to discover who and where and why LOL!

Hesham, These type of bloggers give 'blogging' a bad name. The problem we have is so many believe the hype and are 'sucked in'.
