10 Amazing SEO Infographics to Educate your Staff and Clients

October 24, 2010 - Last Modified: February 14, 2013 by James Johnston 10,822

SEO Infographics

I have mentioned before that Infographics can be a great way to teach those that learn better visually than with with a bunch of data and book research. With that being said, thats why I enjoy infographics so much. Not only am impressed with design side of it, but I get to learn something new at the same time.

Today wanted to do a follow up to one of my previous articles about infographics, I thought I would share with you a few my favorite SEO Infographics. To me and most other SEO consultants and online marketers believe SEO is important for running a business website.

Amazing SEO Infographics

The list of Infographic I have mentioned here can be used for a variety reasons, but the one thing all of these have in common is they can be used to train your team members or educate your clients on how much work we put into optimizing and marketing their sites.

1. The Visual FAQ of SEO infographic

This image is a road map for SEO. It has keyword research, site architecture, page optimization, link building, SEO tactics, social media, basic SEO, and pay-per-click. This infographic is a quick visual reference guide for SEO, it can give someone who doesn’t understand / know about SEO a better understanding what an SEO consultant has to do to get those page one results on the search engines.

2. INFOGRAPHIC: Value of SEO v. PPC

Value of SEO v. PPC
Value of SEO v. PPC infographic

SEO verse PPC is a graphic chart that clearly shows how SEO has better conversion rates than PPC. In my opinion I think SEO is better than PPC. Using this infographic is a good resource to show a client why they shouldn’t go with pay per click or at least try not to invest to much in this type of marketing.

3.  SEO Hierarchy of Needs

SEO hierarchy of needs
SEO hierarchy of needs

Hierachy of Needs for SEO is a great infographic. Its short, simple and gets the point across. This infographic is a spin off from Abraham Maslow’s Heirachy of Needs. Maslow’s theory all about human growth and the SEO Hierarchy of Needs is about the growth of SEO on a website starting with keyword research and ending with linking building at the end.

4. Long Tail SEO

long tail SEO

Long tail one of the easier ways to get good ranking in the Search engine. SEO long tail is basically using a combination of highly used phrases along with 3 to 4 word phrases that will have a better chance at bring more traffic to a target group of readers. In others words, long tail SEO is the art of creating keyword phrases that target readers that are looking for a particular product or service. This infographic does a good job and visually exampling the cost of single keyword versus long tail SEO.

5. Robots.txt File Explained

Ever wondered what that robots.txt file in your websites’ file is and why you need. This infographic explains visually in a flow chart how and what the the robots.txt does. Basically robots.txt tells the search engine crawlers where they can and can not crawl on a site.

6. Link Juice

This infographic is cute graphic designed to look like juice can. It uses the ingredient label to explain from most important to the least important factors of getting link juice. When working on link building, don’t forget to look at this infographic for a quick refresher on link juice.

7. Fear Google!

Fear Google - The power of Analytics and user data

The creator of Google uses dark humor to get the point across about Google Analytics and how powerful it is. At the same time its kinda worrisome how little privacy you have on the internet. At the same time, I consider Google Analytics to be a powerful tool for SEO research and traffic trends and its major tool that I use daily.

8. Learn How Google Works: in Gory Detail

How Google works
How Google works

This is a very detailed infographic on how Google search works. The creator was creative with this one. It was designed to look as if it was done by hand and not digitally created. The data is setup in a flow chart style starting with the creation of a blog post going through the possible routes the Google crawlers go through to pull that sites organic search results.

9. Understanding Google PageRank: A Graphical Guide

Understanding Google PageRank: A Graphical Guide

This is another humorous infographic at Google’s expense. The creator explains page by using high school popularity. Basically you can not get the best rank (prom king) when you only the high school bands are voting. You need cheerleaders, jocks and popular kids votes to be the prom king (best page rank).  To understand this you need to check out the article and read the infographic.

10. Linktoberfest! SEO Infographic for Link Data Visualization

Linktoberfest! SEO Infographic for Link Data Visualization

Ever talk to a client about SEO services and they have expectations that are impossible and you have to explain to them how SEO works and they still want what’s not possible? On those days don’t just want go get a beer after work? Take a look at this fun infographic all about link building. The article has got a lot of good information about link building and what are quality links and  how to get them. Make sure to take a look at infographic its interactive!

Final Thoughts

I find SEO infographics to be helpful, not only for myself but as way to educate others. When looking for SEO graphics, look for ones that are well designed and are accurate. There are so many out there, the ones I gathered, are just a few of the many available on the web.

There are some other basic points for SEO of any website and those are keyword enriched domain name, age of domain name and reliability of web hosting provider. If, your site is down many times a month, it will leave negative impact on SE Robots. Another tip is that you should register your domain for several years instead of only one year.

James, That number 3. "SEO Hierarchy of Needs" graphic is awesome. That graphic definitely breaks down SEO into it's fundamental forms perfectly exactly as I have been preaching them for some while now. That is one picture that is worth well over 1000 words. Mark
  5. Angelica says:
This is probably the most useful SEO infographics I have ever seen. It really helps to see things in graphics sometimes. Too much words explaining on-page SEO, off-page SEO, long tail boggles the mind.
  6. Dheeraj says:
8.Learn How Google Works: in Gory Detail and 5. Robots.txt file demonstration via infographics are the best two out of 10.

Long tail SEO really seems to make some sense... Can be exploited for niche sites....thanks!
  8. Chris says:
These images are pretty cool and I wouldn't hesitate to use them to teach some of my clients about what I do. This way they comprehend the amount of work behind search engine optimization.

James, Most excellent! I've never been too into infographics as a means of actually sharing useful information in a post. I have found royalty-free infographics, reduced the size, and used them for "eye-candy" in my posts (of course they were all relevant to the post), but I suppose that there are many who genuinely get a better understanding through infographics. I guess I'm more into the written word. Anyway, something new to consider. Take care, and have a prosperous new year - Bryan

  17. Mani Viswanathan says:
Kewl collection. Will show this post when people ask me about SEO again :P
  18. Shiva says:
This certainly was a great list of infographics. I have had a look at couple of them before but some of them were certainly new to me. Has added to my SEO knowledge. Will be downloading those images and saving it for future reference

This is great information, I'm fairly new to SEO and this helps. Thanks,
  20. Icechen1 says:
True, anyone would rather look at a nice picture than read a big wall of text. I'm not the only one after all!
  21. Justyna says:
hey:) thanks for the infographics, I have just had a great idea:) Infographics stimulate your creative mind. SEO and great content, two sides of a perfect blog :) thanks!
  22. HnC says:
Most of the infographics here are only useful to those who know at least a little bit about SEO. They're a great refresher though.
  23. Henway says:
I love these infographics, especially the ones about long-tail keywords. Most clients I've talked to just want to rank for 1 word keywords w/o understanding that the less competitive ones are actually better converting. Thanks!
    • James Johnston says:
Henway, I find I have the same issues as well. Longtails can be easier to rank and in most cases its cheaper as well...
  24. Simon Taylor says:
Some nice graphics here, some not so nice. First one is a messy typographic nightmare. DIYSEO is NOT the headline - it's a brand and should be positioned as such.
  25. Jason says:
I like the visualization of long-tail keywords, something I have always had trouble associating in my mind with the term used to describe it.
  26. Senthil Ramesh says:
Awesome buddy. Times where people have asked me what SEO is, and I have struggled lot of times to explain and get my point across. This will help the next time.
    • James Johnston says:
Thanks Senthil, I am glad this article was helpful for you...
  27. ZK says:
James once again your post break my concentration and I know that I have to waste my more 1 hours to your post ... can't resist ... lollzzz
    • ZK says:
James tell me one thing ... from where you got these all awesome graphics ... any resource or anything like that.
      • James Johnston says:
I normally find them through the blogs and bookmarking sites I read. In order to find enough for a post, I generally do a search on the topic to find more of the same topic.
    • James Johnston says:
      Thanks ZK.
  28. James Svoboda says:
I love the Linktoberfest. It just makes me smile. Also: Infographic on understanding Google Keyword match Types: http://www.webranking.com/blog/pay-per-click-keyword-match-types-exact-phrase-broad-and-modified
  29. bryan says:
Wow James, The infographics you have here is really awesome! I'm definitely going to use this to explain to people who wanna know stuff about SEO but can't be bothered with a super long explanation and a lengthy lecture on how to get things right haha :D
    • James Johnston says:
Thanks Bryan! These are my favorites and I think these SEO infographics can help anyone who wants a short and to the point intro to SEO.
  30. Daniel Sharkov says:
I really like those type of articles. Inforgraphics are a great way to illustrate an idea - after all they say that one picture is worth a thousand words. All of the included graphics are amazing and I really had a great time checking them out. I especially liked the link juice one and the way how the different factors are ordered.
    • ZK says:
Yes and simply have a look at those pics ... really awesome and well defined.
  31. satrap says:
Wow James, this is great! I really appreciate you providing these links. Forget about staff and clients, I could use these infographs to educate myself a little, LOL.
    • James Johnston says:
Satrap, I am glad these could were helpful. I tried to pull the ones that were the most useful.
  32. Tinh says:
Long tail seo seems an interesting to me but most of long tail keywords are now low competition but it should be at higher level when searchers need more details :-)
    • James Johnston says:
Tinh, I have heard that rumor about long tail, but I still use them. I am still getting front page results on a lot of my long tails.
      • Tinh says:
Frankly, it is easy to get on #1 page with long tail but I prioritize for short tail with high volume searches, anyway people now love more details in search queries :-)
  33. Ashlie says:
Really like your post. Info graphic are great. A good graphic with a good explanation will get a client sold on how important SEO is. I find that a lot of people get the idea more when they see a couple of graphics and I explain what they mean. This helps when selling SEO.
    • James Johnston says:
I am starting to use those graphics as well... They really do help make it easier to explain things to customers...
      • ZK says:
Yes they are certainly well described photos. Really like it and people simply love to read less words and see more photos.
  34. Kimi says:
Love the lists! My favourite is about the "Robots.txt" very helpful. Thank you for the effort on listing them, tweeted!
    • James Johnston says:
Kimi, That was pretty helpful. Robots.txt can be a bit confusing.
  35. Thu Nguyen says:
Excellent shares and all in one too! This is nice and as many have mentioned, useful to explain for others in explanding further the processes behind SEO. I'm quite new to infographics but am beginning to see their effectiveness in art and message as well. Ah, the Andy Warhols of Internet Marketing LOL. Appreciate this great compo James. Looking forward to more in the future. ;) Cheers! Thu
  36. TJ McDowell says:
Very well done on these images. A lot of these simplify some pretty complex processes. I especially like the SEO hierarchy of needs. I think some people go about that whole process in reverse which would be like eating all the unhealthy stuff at the top of the food pyramid.
  37. Rahul says:
oww , very powerful !!!!! even if that looked very complicated to me , but i insure you , that was great , i got various good informations ,i have been learning about this recently while i found it essential , so that was clearer than any version that i read and i will be reading it again cause lot of important informations up there that i need to know more about , thank You very much !!!
  38. Lennart Heleander says:
Hi James, A very strong and informative article, but I real wonder really if there is so many readers who understand all this. I do, because I working with it, but I have try so many times to explain this for clients and their staff what SEO is and they had maximum understand 2-3 of you 10 points. A really a good article. (I going to copy your article and see what happen)
  39. Marcel says:
Fun article and nice round-up of infographs... who'd know there'd be so many :/
  40. Andy says:
The hierarchy of SEO needs is a favourite of mine.
  41. Colleen says:
Aren't info-graphics great! We visit HubSpot on a regular basis and they post info-graphics on a regular basis. SEO info-graphics are my favorite as they put what can be an overwhelming task into bite-sized tasks.
    • James Johnston says:
I love them... Infographics are great. I love them. I generally like to use them to cut the clutter on large data projects so I can see whats important. Once I understand it, I go back and take a look at all the clutter...
  42. John says:
These are awesome info graphics. Where did you find all of these or did you make them yourself? I can't wait to use some of these they will be very helpful when explaining to cloents.
    • James Johnston says:
These infographics were found on some sites I read or found through Google or Bing Search. There are links to the original source.
  43. Leo says:
sorry the address of the where the image is, is http://searchengineland.com/search-illustrated-google-pagerank-explained-11167
  44. Leo says:
Nice set of infographics. One important one is missing IMO, even if PageRank is not as important as it used to be: . It clearly put into perspective the fact that PR is a logarithmic scale!
  45. Devesh says:
Awesome Post James. I really like all the infographics. Great work ! Thanks for sharing!
    • James Johnston says:
Thanks Devesh. I like them as well. I found several others after this post went live. I will have to do another once I find enough to do another article about them...
  46. sharath says:
nice post.. i knew most of them :) except for the long tail SEO thingy.. !! Thanks for sharing..
    • James Johnston says:
Sharath, Long tail SEO is a great what to get targeted Search Traffic. Try it out on some of your post see if works for you...
  47. Isabel Rodrigues - Pro Blogger Journey says:
Thanks James for sharing such a detailed information about Infographics. The graphics used are outstanding.
  48. Salman says:
Very intersting and full of information infographics. Will share it with my students :)
    • James Johnston says:
      Thanks Salman!
  49. Pritam says:
This is really great to learn from the graphical representation. I gone through your complete article and found many things useful for SEO purpose.
  50. Murlu says:
This is excellent, I really need to just print them out and slap them all around the place because every time I try to explain SEO to people they look at me blankly then tell me to go away haha.
    • James Johnston says:
Murlu, That's a great idea! I do get tired sometimes when I have to explain to friends, family and co-workers over and and over again...
  51. Patricia says:
Thanks James for this really informative post. I am one of those people who learns easier by seeing just not someone instructing me. This is such a valuable resource for me that I will bookmark and use for reference. When a techie is just writing and usually it sounds like a foreign language to me; I get discouraged as none the wiser. I visited umpteen sites that talked about backlinks till I landed on a site that showed me what they were on about. Thanks for making this doable. Patricia Perth Australia
  52. Hunter says:
A picture is worth a thousand words, even keywords.
  53. Lisa says:
Wonderful graphics, backlinks are great purchasing links and reciprocal links are not the best way for SEO from what I understand. But I'm still learning.
    • James Johnston says:
Lisa, If your talking about purchasing backlinks, then that's a bad idea. Google doesn't like it, but they like natural backlinks... learning SEO is a big deal and can be a bit confusing. Get researching, Google likes changing the rules on us...
  54. Richard says:
James, These are awesome. I really like the google ones: numbers 8 and 9. I find myself studying your infographics just to learn a thing or two myself. They definitely do the job.
    • James Johnston says:
Thanks Richard. There is so much to learn about SEO. Once you get to know these infographics make sure to look more into SEO. These Infographics aren't perfect and they simplify SEO. To get a full understanding of SEO you will still have to read and research SEO. :)
  55. Ingrid Abboud says:
James this is a brilliant compilation of SEO infographics :). Nice job! As you may know, I'm a huge fan of infographics and have an entire section on my blog dedicated to just them. I find that they get the message across in a very creative yet super efficient way. People like looking at images instead of just a bunch of words and numbers. But when you are able to combine the two into one big piece - then you're sure to capture the attention you're looking for. The 3 that I found most entertaining on here are #6 link juice, #7 fear google and #9 understanding... Although they're all great, I thought these had a fantastic combination of visual attractiveness as well as information (the amount of). Thanks for this roundup. Cheers
    • James Johnston says:
Thanks Ingrid, Those 3 you mentioned are good ones. I like those most as well. But I also like the Linktoberfest as well.
  56. Lucian says:
Great collection. The truth about graphics is that they are so cool that sometimes you think they are true and you don't have any doubts only because they look cool. I've noticed many exagerations and even untrue statements in the images above.
    • James Johnston says:
I noticed a couple, that aren't exactly correct. As with anything you find on the internet, you can believe everything you read or find. You have to research it and then understand it.
  57. Dennis Edell says:
They look cool, but I wouldn't really call them "explanations"
    • James Johnston says:
Dennis, They really aren't but they do summerize SEO and I have showed some of these graphics to people that know nothing of SEO and they tell me its any way to to at least know what SEO is what people go through to make it work for them...
      • ZK says:
Yes SEO is like read, read, read and read. But mind it ... SEO is simply spice for your blog do not make it main ingredient.
  58. Whiztechy says:
This is something really interesting. All important SEO aspects at one place that too shared perfectly. SEO is very important for all the blogs to get traffic and popularity and infographics is best way to make others give a sneak peak of SEO. I agree that Long Tail Keywords and link building do wonders when it comes to SEO.
    • Salman says:
Indeed this is a real gem that we have here :)
