Does Your Blog Have Personality?

January 20, 2010 - Last Modified: May 17, 2012 by jenny

Blog Personality

If you are having difficult time writing for your blog there could be numerous reasons. One reason that may go overlooked, however, is personality. So many times people want to have authority or they only post if they have something very important to offer their readers. While these are important reasons for posting they can also back a blogger into a corner and subdue their personality.

Blogging Personality

By subduing the personality it can make blogging taxing and at times like very unpleasant.

Lack of personality can cause a blogger to continually rethink their post, wonder if it is good enough, and can even cause posting anxiety. I have fallen into the lack of personality within my blog and have found some ways to incorporate your personality without losing professionalism.

  1. Redo your theme and plugins to what really feels like you, not what everyone else is doing
  2. Start being yourself when writing your post, let your own language come out and then proofread.  If you find that your posts are not professional enough or to your liking, tweak it, but only slightly, don’t let your personality die.
  3. Add your own humor, one-liners, slang, whatever you use on a daily basis, once again tweak if necessary
  4. Start your own personal blog.  If you find that you cannot (which I am sure you probably can) incorporate your own personality into your current blog, then start a blog where you can let it all out and just be you, you may find that that blog will be more successful

By adding your own personality into your blog and posts you can take the drudgery out of blogging.  If you find that you enjoy blogging (like most of us) adding personality can make it more fun for you and your readers.

Do you think you blog has your own personality?

I think I've been able to achieve this or so my friends tell me. They say they can tell I'm the author of an article just from the way I write cos I write exactly the same way I speak. LOL. I wonder what that means. .-= Udegbunam Chukwudi@Work Online Nigeria´s last blog ..StrictlyOnlineBiz’s Top Blog Posts Of The Week 6 =-.

Personality; I believe my blog has personality. It certainly has attitude, since I will give my opinions on things, though I try not to beat anyone over the head with things I have to say. I figure it's like engaging people in a conversation at a point, although I also come from the position of someone who does speaking engagements. I get to talk a bit, then pause and hope someone adds to it. Sometimes my pauses take awhile to get to, but so be it. .-= Mitch´s last blog ..Are You A Lurker Or Participant In Life? =-.

No matter what blot theme I use I've always adapted it to what I like, not to what others may like. I always figured that way I would attract people that were more like me. As to the way I write, I try to keep as natural as possible and that may something include some Aussie slang every now and again. I do it this way because I find it the most comfortable way to write my posts which enables me to produce what I consider to be a more relaxed style of writing. .-= Sire´s last blog ..The Difference Between Flexibility And FlexSqueeze =-.

I think my readers might agree, I have no problems with personality on my blog, except maybe too much! LOL. yea I was told once that I kinda babble on sometimes...no matter or worries, as most seem to eat it up big time. :) I totally agree with Kiesha, in this blogging world of having to be unique, I think ones own personality is all that's left. ;) Excellent post Jenny. :) .-= Dennis Edell´s last blog ..Blog Move Is Imminent ! Good points Jenny, you really have to feel comfortable with your blog, after all, it is YOUR site. Regards, Karl
  6. Latief says:
A blog must have the owner's personality, start from the theme, never use default theme customized your theme and write your article like you are talking to your readers, your blog is not a text book. Thanks Jen for the sharing.
    • Jenny says:
Good point Latief, theme is more important then I thought is was in the beginning of my blogging
    • Dennis Edell says:
The theme is important for sure, but don't let it stop you from starting...it's always a work in progress. .-= Dennis Edell´s last blog ..Blog Move Is Imminent ! I’m Looking For Launch Partners… =-.

  7. Tom says:
Personality is the one thing that stands you out from your competition and something that I think is vital for all bloggers.
  8. JR says:
Good points Hesham, I think mine does, at least I hope so. I always write as myself, with jokes and sarcasm (who me???) and one thing that I think really personalize a blog is replying to all commenters, this is essential, and really personalizes you as the blogger.
  9. lawmacs says:
Well said jenny i really admire your writing style and as will have mentioned that is exactly how you blog feels i often visit your blog and admire your writing style
    • Jenny says:
Thanks Gary I appreciate, I feel the same about your blog!
  10. Will says:
Hey Hesham, Nicely said - as usual. Yes, one of the reasons I liked your blog initially was that it felt very authentic, very real, very "you" ( even though I didn't know "you" at all at that time ). Some blogs seem very manufactured and impersonal but this certainly isn't one of them. My current blog's purpose is more to promote the sites ( and maybe personalities) of others - but I am planning to create a more personal one called "whatastory" on Bloggingwire in the future ... and hope it will be a lot of fun.... Cheers Will
    • Hesham says:
Thanks Will, and looking forward to see your coming project!
  11. Ari Herzog says:
It matters less whether I think my blog has personality or if you think your blog has personality, but whether you think mine does or I think yours does. That is, if you're writing for your readers and not for yourself. ;)
  12. Kiesha says:
You make a very good point here. Honestly, with so much information on the web, our unique personalities is just about the only thing that will make us stand out in the pack. I struggle with this sometimes, because I'm often a very to the point kind of person, but really, my favorite blogs are those that allow me to get to know the author. And you're right, humor turns the bland into entertaining.
    • Jenny says:
Thanks Kiesha I have struggled with it as well, I find that by adding that humor, and a slight bit of slang lately has really helped my comments and getting to know others
  13. Anne says:
You raise a good point. I do have a personal blog too but I also try to keep niche blogs more "me" if I can. .-= Anne @ b6s.net´s last blog ..Web News & Views #5 =-.

  14. Andrew says:
"Do you think you blog has your own personality?" That's a tough one to answer! I think so. I would like to do more videos. I don't have any problems of being in front of the camera - I just have to get up and do it. I should have a target of having one video per week or something. That would make me do it. • Jenny says:
Hey Andrew I know it is a tough one, I was pondering the personality of my own blog, so I have started implementing some things and am thinking of a personal blog as well. I also am thinking video is a great way to add more, just gotta get on it:)
