5 After Effects of a Low-Quality Logo Design on Start-ups

May 19, 2010 - Last Modified: February 14, 2013 by ben 5,047

Logo Design

Your logo is the foundation of your brand and image building campaigns. It enables your potential customers and target market to remember and recognize your business.

However, it can happen only if your logo possesses a few effective qualities, otherwise it will only be a mere picture that no one will take notice of.

Qualities of a Good Logo Design:

So, what are these qualities that can make your logo stand-out and grab the attention of your market? Remember, your logo has to be attractive, unique and effective. If your logo doesn’t look good, no one will bother to know more about your business. To grab the attention of your market, it has to be attractive. Your logo must be unique to build your business image in a unique way. It should also be effective and make people take notice of it. It should convey the message of your business clearly.

What If…

Now, what if…Your logo design fails to achieve all this? In this case, we will call it a “Bad Logo Design”, because its impact on your business will be very bad. If you own a giant organization with hundreds of thousands of dollars readily available at any given moment for branding, then you may make things normal again by redesigning another logo for your business and promoting it again. However, for start-ups, it will be a nightmare and a total disaster.

Let’s now discuss the consequences of a bad logo design.

1. A Bad Logo Design Can Distort Your Business Image:

A bad logo design doesn’t represent your business correctly and plays a big role in destroying the image of your business. If the viewers are unable to find out what your logo represents, then they will make all sorts of assumptions. As a result, your marketing campaign will become a disaster for you and you won’t be able to fix the bad image that it will create.

2. A Bad Logo Design Can Have A Negative Impact On Your Business:

No one wants to convey a wrong message through their logo. But, if your logo accidentally conveys a wrong or negative message, like promotes racism, makes fun of a group, shows hatred against a nation, then it will actually make people hate your brand. Of course you will never do this on purpose. However, even if it happens accidentally, it will have a negative impact on your business and you may never be able to recover from it.

3. A Bad Logo Can Slowly & Silently Damage Your Business:

Many times businesses pay attention to all different details if their sales are not up to the mark, but they never realize that it’s their logo which is causing them trouble. They continue to use it and continue to scratch their head that why in the world all their efforts seem to be useless. This can cause a significant damage to your business, but it’s a shocking fact that a lot of businesses still don’t take their logo design seriously.

4. Cheap Logo Design Cost vs. Redesign Cost:

Start-ups mostly try to save money by spending as less as they can. Due to their limited budget, they don’t want to spend a lot on their logo design and this is why they hire a cheap designer. Eventually, they realize that their logo is not helping, because it doesn’t look professional. So, they again search for another designer. However, this time, due to their previous bad experience, they search for an expensive designer and end up paying more than they would have by initially hiring a decent designer. Hiring a cheap logo designer in the beginning will actually cost you more in the future.

5. Your Branding Efforts Will Backfire:

Commonly, after designing a logo, businesses like to get it printed on their business cards, letterhead, banners, posters, mugs, etc. to promote their business via different means. However, when you end up redesigning your logo due to its cheap quality, you have to get rid of all the stationery and other items that have your logo imprinted on. You will end up losing hundreds of dollars if not thousands. Plus, your marketing campaigns with a cheap logo design will also backfire and you will ruin your business image.

Avoid All This Trouble:

As a start-up, you can’t afford to go through all this hassle. You can avoid all this simply by making a smart decision i.e. hire an experienced designer. It’s advisable to stay far away from cheap quality. Become a successful business owner and promote your business effectively with a top quality logo design.

I approached three logo design companies and none of them came up with anything I liked or felt reflected my beans. Rightly or wrongly, I created my own simple 'temporary' logo that's been in place almost 10 years now .

Hey I love this site, I have learned so much in here. thanks. keep up.
  3. Tom Lambert says:
I tend to agree here - but what do you think about companies spending millions of dollars for seemingly terrible logo changes? That seems to be a recent trend in big corporate rebrandings over the last few years...
  4. Cheryl Ellemberg says:
Putting some thought into a logo upfront is important as it is truly a reflection of who you are and what your company represents.

Thanks David for liking the Article, I don't know about this company Logo Design Creations, but I reckon in the Logo Design industry every one is doing well, I don't know what exactly your experience is with this company, but everyone is offering same satisfaction and 100% money back guarantee. The best way to choose a designing firm to get designed your logo is take a look their Portfolio and Reviews from customers. for example Search Company name + reviews I.E logodesigncreations reviews, if you finds any discussions or feedback about the company, just read it if it is a known company and have a good reputationl it will appear on the top search results, it will help you to choose one or researching your already chosen company. As I am working for logoinn.com, I work a lot on brand identity and brand visibility ont he internet and social media websites, if you search logoinn reviews on google, you will get more results and feedback from our clients as we always ask them to write testimonials about us if they like the service, and recommend us to their friends. Some times we get negative responses as well but honestly says mostly from our competitors. This is a friendly advice to all the people who are looking for a Logo designer just search the feedback about the company they are considering for their Logo Design. In the end after spending 100s of $ you won't get the result if you haven't re-searched well about the company.

Great article! I agree the fact that an effective logo design is so important in branding image of your company. A badly designed logo can effect your company image. Your customer would not be able to recall your brand and it will a bad sign if it happens. I've worked with LogoDesignCreation and was surprised to find out that they offered logo design at such an affordable price with good quality as well. The reason why I keep going back to LogoDesignCreation is because I know they’ll work on my assignment until we get it right. I have never had to compromise. Their reaction is always the same, they do what it takes to make the client happy. I'm very pleased with both the design, and more importantly, the service. I totally recommend this company to those interested! David Wogahn

You get what you pay for is certainly true in the logo arena. Unfortunately a lot of people just starting out don't have the money to pay for a professional logo. .-= NEW from Mike Roosa´s last blog ..I’m Giving Away The Farm — Read This If You Like Free Stuff =-.

I agree that an impressive logo is important to gain trust from the public. But it would probably be better to get the best quality logo for your brand first time rather than get one design that you'll use for a year or two and afterward the real thing. Unlike creating distraction/ confusion suddenly changing a brand logo, this will actually cause your company a loss of revenue. .-= NEW from Jason Jumat @ I need lots of money now´s last blog ..Product Name =-.

  11. Biodun says:
Good post, a professional logo is one of the fastest way to build credibility, its illustrates the business. It is considered to be the tool which gives the first impression of a business, so the best logo designs are those that reflect on what you do; what products and services you tend to offer. .-= NEW from Biodun @ UK webmaster forum´s last blog ..I need Links from Music/Movie/Celebrity niches =-.

Hi Ben, nice considerations, but what do you think about Apple and Nike (I know they are exeptional cases)? The time could be an answer to contestualize the brand in the market also without any correlations. GG
  13. Costa says:
Good points. Have been trying to brand my blog with a logo for sometimes, but professional designers do not come cheap. So I had to make do with my own design. Hope it's not that bad to backfire. :-) .-= NEW from Costa´s last blog ..Frugal 3.5 Is Now WordPress 3 Compatible =-.
  14. Liane says:
For the past couple of months, I've been more active on my newfound design career. I started (and still is) as a logo designer. The amount of new orders on crowdsourcing sites like 99designs blows me away. So many people just need their logos done everyday. The most obvious thing is that, if you want a quality logo, never go for a cheap price. It's like putting a cheap face to your business/blog/service too. My advice too is to always have a concept and a vision ready. There are some clients that leaves the logo 'to the designer's discretion' and this is very harmful. No designer, no matter how talented he/she is can fully see your own brand as much as you do. Great post Hesham. Your sentiments reflects my views. .-= NEW from Liane´s last blog ..How to Make a Blog Post Go Viral in Facebook =-.
  15. Murlu says:
Branding is a subject that greatly interests me. Just today I was listening to the importance of commitment to your brand image (including the logo). If you're spending hours of your time or money on marketing only to change your logo (and brand image) a few months down the line. The relationship you'd been building up to that point is going to waste because you're starting from scratch again. Start with a powerful logo and keep building it from there. You can tweak it but don't do a complete 180. (I personally keep mine minimal so it doesn't distract from the content, it fits the theme. If I were to make it extremely flashy, it would simply be out of place.) .-= NEW from Murlu´s last blog ..Time Management For Successful Bloggers =-.

Wise advice Ben. It always pays to pay when it comes to something as important as a brand logo. .-= NEW from Ryan´s last blog ..How The People’s Program Cash Gifting Club Helps You To Get Started =-.
