How to Stand Out of the Crowd in Blogging Industry

August 16, 2010 - Last Modified: March 20, 2012 by Bilal Ahmad

Stand Out of the Crowd

It is all about standing out of the crowd, only then people will start following you, recommending you and reading you.

In blogging the only thing that is common in every blogger is that they are blogging, but nothing else is common. However every one has some hidden abilities and expertise that will really make you unique. Finding out those hidden abilities is very important to become the leader in your field. Following tips will help you to differentiate your blog from other blogs.

1. Goals

Every business has there own identical goals, and as blogging is also a business thus you must also define your blog goals. It will make your blog unique and different from several blogs. Goals help you to easily survive and make your own brand.

2. Struggle

The more you struggle, the better result you will get. If you really want to become unique and “the only one” then you must struggle. You must write, post comments, build links, engage your readers, interact with readers and keep promoting your blog.

3. Unique Ideas

The only thing to stand out of the crowd is to come up with unique ideas. Unique mean that are totally new and never discussed in the past. I personally don’t like those blogs who are discussing the same topics. We need some thing new and unique.

It is very important that you must provide unique ideas so that you can establish your own brand in blogging industry.

4. Ethics

Ethics also plays a vital role in your blog success. By ethics i mean that try to develop a very friendly relationship with your readers. In this way every one will talk about you in every social media website. Try to be very energetic and cool minded, respond to every comment and keep engage your readers with your blog.

5. Expertise

The only thing that will actually make your blog unique is your expertise in your field. If you are expert then you can deliver lot of information to your readers. In blogging the only thing to stand out of crowd is to provide quality and unique information to your readers. It will be only possible if you know about your field.

Your thoughts and opinions!

Great article, Bilal. You touch upon a couple points often glossed over by many: ethics and expertise. In an era where bloggers must often stoop to new lows to scoop a story, maintaining an aura of trust is very important over the long term. I'll also add that any "Tom, Dick or Harry" can now start a blog within minutes, so continually demonstrating expertise is also critical to building a readership base. To that end, I've attached an article by Jane Applegate where she suggests using industry events as a way to establish expertise. I believe these events will also help bloggers periodically revisit the ethics conversation. Thanks, Justin
  2. Will says:
I believe expertise is something you can build on the go. You never stop learning, and involving your readership in your learning trip shows them that you're just like them and don't look down on them..
  3. jonbey says:
Maybe this industry should have a more recognised award. I know that there is a website that does something similar, the BloggerChoiceAwards.com, but they do not have a category by country. Would be good to highlight the "best teen Britblogs" etc. We need to find these great blogs and share them! Maybe....
  4. Gino Dizon says:
Great post! Simplified but concise. I would also like to point out that you should be able to posts blogs frequently, at least once a day. This way, your readers will know that you basically cover everything they might be looking for. Thumbs up for you!
  5. Dennis Edell says:
I can say from experience, it's a really good feeling when people tell you they love the crazy/unique ideas you come up with all the time. :)
    • Colleen says:
I can concur with that Dennis! ;)
  6. Jon says:
I think that expertise has to be the most important factor. If you are an expert in your area you can write at ease and your writing will naturally flow. I am not sure if being unique is really that important. In any field there are many businesses competition and competition is healthy. What is important is being able to do things better than the competition. Maybe this is a unique feature?
  7. Isabel Rodrigues says:
Nice Tips. I would also like to add that you need a lot of patience too. Hardwork + Patience will ensure your blog reach great heights.
  8. Ian says:
Authentic voice, hot topic, service to the readers are some of the ones that seem to set good blogs apart from the rest. I like the goals one though. A lot of people get into blogging just to get into it. So as a creative outlet that's cool. Like online journaling. But if you want to make a go at it I think really identifying your goals and creating a plan is and maybe should be your number 1 priority.
  9. Ernest says:
Everything is great but I prefer Unique ideas, ethics and expertise the most. We will surely stand out if we have unique but great ideas. Unique in a positive way of course. We should also consider the type of readers that we have. We should interact with out readers as to give them importance. We should create interesting articles about the things that we are good at. we should not create something that we have hard time doing. Really a great post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Really inspiring
    • Tinh says:
I would love to add that "innovative" is also important that can help us stand out of the crowd :-)
  10. Dean Saliba says:
Being unique is very true. Do you have any idea how many blogger are blogging about this new Video blogging course? It's irritating!
  11. Laura Davis says:
I don't know that you HAVE to stand out from the crowd, but if you want to make any money or have any type of readership you do. For every topic online, there's probably at least five people already writing about it, unless you write about yourself. I think that's a key piece of information that people need to remember when setting up a blog.
  12. Kathy says:
I think that in order to stand out from the crowd you need one of three things: 1) Natural Charisma 2) Rare and highly valuable content 3) A new captivating method of providing common content Did I miss something?
  13. tushar says:
sure we need to stand out of the crowd in this very densely crowded blogosphere.... there is no room for complacency today and the moment you stop to take a breath, somebody might have taken over your alexa rank
  14. Colleen says:
I think your second point is most important. Struggling, or not giving up, is key to success in anything, especially blogging.
  15. Tech Maish says:
Lennart Heleander@ Uniqueness can be in any field, if they are talking about skit etc.. then this there expertise, and that is what make there blog unique.
  16. Steve says:
Hi Bilal, Great tips on Blogging but I feel that one important tip was left out and that would be trust. Always need to build trust with your readers or they could end up leaving or unsubscribing.
  17. Julius says:
I believe that failing or struggling is important in order to become successful. It all depends on your attitude toward failure whether your blog will become a success or not. Nice post ;)
  18. Andreas says:
A good idea to stand out of the crowd with your blog is to engage with your readers more often by using contests, surveys, asking questions and other interactive tools.
  19. Tech Maish says:
Mani Viswanathan@ Yes by unique i mean every activity should be unique one. Including writing style.
  20. Patrick says:
Along with Struggle,Patience is very important. Many Blogger s lack this which cause failure and they eventually give up.
  21. Mani Viswanathan says:
Here I agree with all your points Bilal. But Dona has made an important point too. A personal touch, a unique style of writing would surely make you a stand-out Blogger in the blogosphere.!
  22. Binoy xavier says:
Good post , Bilal. What you said is absolutely right. Compromising any one of the aforesaid point will quickly be reflected on ones blog. Thanks for sharing.
  23. Phillip says:
Great post Bilal, I think also leaving something of value like a free ebook on your blog also makes it unique! I written a book over 2 weeks called "Blogging the Easy Way" and is available as a free download on my blog! This makes a blog unique and also adds value to the blog as well as an incentive for my readers to come and read what I have to say! after all what good is a blog with no audience! Thanks for this post buddy! -Phillip Dews
  24. Cindy says:
its good to blog about something where you have years of experience. This can gain a lot of trust from your readers because you know the best advice to give to them.
  25. Mike says:
I think the willingness to help readers is also important. Right?
    • Phillip says:
Totally agree Mike. Giving someone a solution to their problem without expecting anything in return
      • Gino Dizon says:
I would also agree on that. Sometimes, other blogs provide the very basic of instructions and forget that not everyone is a pro for everything. So, a good thing to do is provide them with the conciseness and the ease that the readers are looking for.
  26. Lennart Heleander says:
Hi Bilal Great post, Sorry to say it, but the biggest blogs in Scandinavian, U.K. and Europe is girl blogs who only write skit, lies, rumors, and other bad thing they can think about. If we want to call that to “Stand Out of the Crowd” have they a huge success. Personally I like to follow number 5 experts blogs.
    • Phillip says:
Hey Lennart, I kinda agree with you there! being from the UK myself, I have not found any famous bloggers from the UK on teenage blogger blogs! So to that end I have set up my blog "Internet Marketing 101" as I want to be up there with the likes of Yaro Starak, Darren Rouse, Chris Brogan and Brian Solis! That is my goal anyway to have a famous blog from the UK and not Australia and the States like! Another thing I do to achieve success in blogging and being unique is actually commenting on others comments! like I am here! I read loads of blogs and always leave my 2 cents worth when I can. but do other blog readers read others comments? I don't think so all the time so by me doing this you know I have read your comment and left value to this post! More people should leave value by commenting on the post and on the commentors comments! What do you think? -Phillip Dews
