The Smart Business Guide to Winning New Work

The Smart Business Guide

“If you are in business, then first and foremost you are a salesperson. Only after that are you a designer, writer, or whatever else it is you are doing. Selling comes before that.”

Pawel Grabowski started his book with this very interesting sentence that I’ve shared with you above! He simply succeeded to get my full attention to read, and read more! I love to read anything that will help me in managing and growing my Thesis Skins project, as it’s really important business to me.

In this post, I am going to introduce to you a very nice book by my friend Pawel Grabowski. It’s called The Smart Business Guide to Winning New Work. It’s a brand new stuff that worth reading.

Pawel is focusing on selling and how people like you and me should really consider themselves salesmen before anything else. I know that the highest paid salaries in any company -after the management salaries – are the sales department salaries!

I started to realize the importance of sales departments when I was working for companies and my position as a team manager was so close to the company management and sales department.

To explain this relationship between the company’s management, sales department and me – as a leader of a development team- we had to listen to what our sales guys had to say and what they needed from us to create. We actually create what they can sell. Salesmen have their own good point of view!

In addition to that, one very interesting thing I notice is that successful company managers consistently listen to their salesmen when planning, creating, developing, testing, and preparing the product for the market. Thit is why I call it a smart way to run a business.

It’s great to know how to do things and how to create awesome products, but it’s totally a waste of time to create the perfect product without having the know-how to sell it! This is why you need to be a salesman to be able to grow your business and win new work and business opportunities.

Salesmen knows how to sell stuff!

Salesmen knows how to bring in the money!

Most business guides on the market tell you what you need to be successful, but they do not really how to do it.e Fortunately, the Smart Business guide will teach you all about it. I know Pawel, and I know he always does really good stuff. That’s why I don’t hesitate to share it on my blog.

I wouldn't say 'first and foremost, especially with online business, but rather a group effort. Offline, yes that would be fine, online though your "salesmanship" is only as good as your copywriting, among other things...they all work together.

Hey Hesham, this makes a lot of sense. I haven't heard about this book but I do understand how you need to be a salesperson first and then everything else. If it really helped you, who am I to argue, I better look into it and start learning how to get more business :) Thanks for the recommendation.

The book is pretty new in the market, it was launched last week, and probably this is the second review for it on the internet! For me, I've studied business in college, but I love it when I put my hands on something that reminds me! I am sure you will find it useful! Thanks Brankica

Hi Hesham, I agree with Robert's point that everyone that works for himself is a salesman...not meaning literally salesman but well actually he does have to sell his works, products, services, his content. I think it is really important to know how to get those sells and for newbie those stuffs are really something they won't certainly know. I thing this book will be pretty pretty useful if it is like it is stated it to be .."the quickest way to learn how to make more sales". Maybe I need to do some savings this month to get this book for myself. Lets see till the end of this month maybe I may save some. Regards, Shiva

You know! Maybe you will not believe this.. but I feel I am in a store sometimes while blogging and selling stuff , it began last Christmas when we got the big discounts and offers, I kept awake for three days of hard work that time :) I hope you can get the book, it's really cool!

Hi Hesham - the biggest point is that anyone that works for themself is now a salesperson. Sales is not a bad thing, nor is marketing. If you don't sell you don't get more work. It's just that simple. Having said that you don't have to be a jerk when selling. There are many sales techniques you can use to help bring the customer to your side, but at the end of the day it's about showing the value that you'll give in return for what you'll get - their money. But long story short, you have to sell if you want to stay in business.
    • Hesham says:
Yes Robert, there is nothing bad in being a salesperson! I remember my first times was in the age of 7 , that time we were doing great job for the family as kids :) And yes, you are right, we have to sell to stay in business, and for the same reason we must chose products that people need to buy, this makes is more easier to sell! Thanks Robert!
