3 Super Cool SEO Booster WordPress Plugins

October 11, 2010 - Last Modified: October 11, 2010 by Michele Welch 4,730

Wordpress SEO Plugins

Every so often you come across a plugin for WordPress that although it may not fall into the “must-have” category, it falls into “this is cool and can really boost my website” category.

The next three plugins I will discuss does just that.  They all have the capability of giving your site an SEO booster, if you will.

Without further ado, here are your three super cool, highly-suggested, but not “must have” plugins to consider for your WordPress website.

SEO Booster # 1 – Insights

Insights is a plugin similar to Apture but a much simpler version.  Although with Insights you have more control of how your site is getting linked; that is, you have control of what’s getting displayed and how you want it displayed.

The Insights plugin can execute the following functions:

  • Interlink your posts
  • Insert Flickr images
  • Insert Youtube videos
  • Search Wikipedia
  • Search Google
  • Search Google News
  • Google Blog Search
  • Google Book Search
  • Insert a Google Map

Here’s a visual demonstration of the plugin:

Insights WordPress SEO

This plugin allows for increased productivity in addition to user interaction. As a result this keeps your readers on your site longer, especially through the use of cross linking posts.  So you are not only deep linking to those old archived posts collecting dust, but you can go back to THAT archived post and link back to the new, more current post. Cool!

Note: You can configure how many options to show when doing a search by visiting your Insights settings area.

SEO Booster # 2 – WP- Spoiler

Wp-Spoiler is a plugin that allows you to add a descriptive or narrative aspect to your site without having to display the content and allowing the reader to view it ONLY if they wish to.

If you integrate videos quite often on your site, this plugin can be particularly beneficial.  As you may or may not know, Google (as well as other search engines) are text based, thus cannot crawl video files. So unless you have a text format embedded, search engines will have a rough time crawling and indexing the pages with your videos.

Although you may have optimized your page with keywords in your title and so forth, this may not be good enough to get your page ranked as well as you would like. That‘s when this plugin comes into play.  Adding a transcription of your video adds further text to your page which will help the search engines better understand that page. SEO booster … cha-ching!

Yes, it’s time consuming, but if you are looking to rank well for that page then it’s definitely a great option.  On top of the fact that it enhances the user experience.  Many people prefer text over video. So by adding this function, you are appealing to a larger audience.

SEO Booster # 3 – Table of Contents Creator

TOCC generates an updated site-wide table of contents.  The entries are linked which is what makes this plugin so SEO friendly.

It is also customizable so you can choose how to display your content.  You have to the option to display:

  • Static Pages
  • Blog Posts
  • Forum Comments

Under each display you have further options whether or not to exclude pages, categories, post dates, comment count, author, etc.  You can separate your lists for ease of usability on top of having different options to sort your content.

The super cool function is that it allows your readers to choose how THEY want to display the page with a drop down menu that can further sort the page by the following options:

TOCC SEO for WordPress

Note: To sites that are large or incur lots of visitors, the author notes –

TOCC may increase host CPU loading and memory usage. It may therefore be advantageous to consider installing a caching plugin such as WP-Super Cache.

So there you have it.  Three super cool, SEO booster plugins to look into.  If you are looking for ways to enhance your site and usability and at the same time give it a SEO boost, than one or more of these options may be for you.

What super cool SEO Booster plugins do you use?

Hey Michelle, thanks for the advice. The only one I used from your post is Insights. I thought it was pretty cool, except for the image suggestions. I think Zemanta is better in that regard. I started experimenting with Arkayne the other day and it offers suggestions on how to improve SEO in titles and keywords, however it looks like the best options are the paid ones. Have you tried that one out yet?
  2. Swayam says:
Hmm.. Really Nice set of plugins :) But I am wondering if it would attract Penguin in some way?
  3. Sebastian says:
Wordpress SEO, Smart 404 and SEO Smart Links are my best tips!
  4. Petter - sökmotoroptimering says:
This was a good post... Nice plugins that U posted about. im using All in One seo. I think its working. Seopressor is good too :)
  5. Kya says:
Great share of plugins! But I think you forgot a few plugins. Contact-Form 7 and Clickbump! SEO. It cand be found anywhere, and it can be used by evryone :)
  6. Michael Marshall says:
WP has been my thing now.
  7. Markin K says:
Great plugin. Works a treat. Thanks to the developer of Insight.
  8. Sebastian says:
Insigths sounds intresting! Will check it out!
  9. Alexander says:
Insight sound interesting will definitely try for one of my sites. Thanks for the tips, it's always interesting to see what plugins others are using
  10. Amandeep Singh says:
I have been using Insights plugin since a long time now and I must say, it is a great plugin. It saves a lot of time in interlinking the posts... which otherwise is a real pain ;)
  11. Nabil says:
Dude, you forgot the plugin "Wordpress SEO" by Yoast. That sure helps one out :) Besides, it's new.
  12. Jasmine says:
Insights looks very promising. I will check it out further!
  13. Claire says:
I am currently holding my blog on a free platform as it is my first, I was told to get my own dedicated domain and install wordpress, I have been told this is the way to go if I want to be taken seriously. I then am going to read up more on SEO and try and get my blog optimised. I am currently finding this blog very helpful, thanks again.
  14. Salman says:
Great tips and i believe these plugins will significantly enhance our On-page SEO a great deal. Definitely a sound investment :)
  15. satrap says:
Great plug-ins Michele. I specially like...? LOVE the Interlinking feature of the Insights plug-in. I always try to do it manually, which means I have to keep a list of all the urls of my past posts in a text file for a quick( its not not really quick though). This interlinking feature is great helping you build backlinks with anchor text to your old post, possibly helping you a little bit to rank higher for those keywords. Thanks.
    • Michele Welch says:
Hi Satrap, Isn't it fantastic?! Sure will save you a heck of a lot of time. Now you can focus your efforts and continuing to create fabulous content and not struggle over the SEO so much. =) Take care and happy interlinking!
  16. John says:
These are great plug-ins. I am currently only using the all in one seo pack. Can you use these plug-ins together?
    • Michele Welch says:
Yes Sir! =) I also use All-In-One and don't have any conflicts. But here's a tip: Any time you add a new plug-in check your site to make sure you don't have any incompatibility issues. If all looks fine than keep plugging away. =)
  17. Scott Lovingood says:
Excellent set of plug ins. Three new ones to add to my ever growing list of needed ones. Keep up the good work. I always like to help interlink my articles but hate trying to find the links. Super frosty!!
    • Michele Welch says:
Super frosty indeed! =) Be sure to check some of the other plug-ins mentioned in this thread. Some great suggestions from other commentators. Ciao!
  18. James Martell says:
Yes, and thanks to all who create these plugins. I originally used Drupal but quickly moved to WordPress a couple years ago. I am a huge WP fan. I share it with friends, family and anyone who wants to create a great website. The plugins really are the icing on the cake. I have 10 or 15 favorites and couldn’t live without WP. My personal favorite is a podcasting plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/powerpress/
    • Michele Welch says:
Just installed that plug-in the other day...fantastic! Thanks for your input James. Have a wonderful day. =)
  19. Biodun says:
WordPress insight plugin is a very effective and must have wordpress plugin, the power of this tool is awesome!
  20. TJ McDowell says:
The table of contents creator seems like a good idea. It looks kinda like a sitemap for wordpress blogs. For people who use Wordpress more like a CMS, this would be a simple way to not have to maintain a sitemap.
    • Michele says:
Hi TJ, I think what I like most about it is the ease at which your readers can have access to all your content on one page. Of course if your site has a 100 or more posts, it may be a good idea to select the 'Hide Children by Default' option just to keep the page manageable and allow the reader to choose which category to expand. Thanks for your input!
  21. Droogs says:
I have insights on one of my blogs and it absolutely rocks! Love being able to just dig through the blog without having to remember an older post from months ago - beats keeping a file with all your links too. Also found it really helpful for finding images and other media for a post without having to tab back and forth :)
  22. Vlad says:
Quite a nice review, you actually convinced me to try this. Btw I like your attitude and how you reply to everyone's comments, big thumbs up for that, another thing I should try. I'm curious what my reply will be. :)
    • Michele Welch says:
LOL...now that gave me a good chuckle. I guess I'd better say something good; the pressure is on ...mmmm. Well nothing brilliant coming to mind. =) However (wink), I will say this and I know it's not feasible for everyone, all the time (including myself), but I feel if someone can take out 5-10 minutes of their day to read my article, then least I can do is take 1 minute to acknowledge it and thank them for their time. So thank you!! And P.S. ...I appreciate the compliment. =)
  23. Brian says:
Hi Michele, I have never used insight, but I think I'm going to jump onto my dashboard and try it out. For my own suggestion, SEO friendly images is a useful plugin if you sometimes forget to add title tags and alt attributes to pictures. I've always done custom Alts, but have slacked off on titles. This makes sure each on of your pictures contains both.
    • Michele Welch says:
That is so awesome Brian! I always add my title and alt tags, but man what a pain. This sounds like a great way to automate the process when I'm pressed for time (or feeling lazy ;-). Thanks for sharing...will definitely be looking into this one!
  24. Slava says:
Michele, I'd say "CommentLuv" on your own site is a SEO plugin too. Everything that stimulates people to write free content for me is aces in my book. And CommentLuv does it like no other thing. Each comment is content. The more content you have - the better your rankings are. :)
    • Michele Welch says:
I LOVE commentluv, unfortunately was having some conflicts on my site when using it and haven't had time to troubleshoot it as of yet. :-( But YES, getting people involved, commenting, visiting your site, definitely a great SUPER COOL SEO option! Thanks for your input Slava.
  25. George Jacobs says:
Yeah, these are surely super cool. Thanks for sharing, I will definitely use this.
    • Michele Welch says:
"these are surely super cool." I love it when people play along. =) Thanks for your comment.
  26. Mike says:
Awesome! These plug-ins are very nice, especially the Insights plug-in. Why I haven't known about this before. Thank you for the great share!
    • Michele Welch says:
My pleasure Mike. With the THOUSANDS of plug-ins available to you in WP, it's no wonder we miss some gems. Take care. =)
  27. Brad says:
Googd to see someone suggest some other plugins that are useful for WordPress and SEO that may not be so well known!
    • Michele Welch says:
They are like little diamonds in the rough....although Insights has had a fair amount of downloads. But yes, not your 'most popular' plug-ins although still work exceptionally well. Nice to meet your Brad. =)
  28. Isabel Rodrigues - Pro Blogger Journey says:
Nice Plugins. I had heard about the second plugin Wp-spoiler but not the other ones. Thanks for sharing
    • Michele Welch says:
Hi Isabel, My pleasure Isabel. I hope they're as useful for you as they are for me. Ciao =)
  29. Richard says:
Hi Michele, Thanks for sharing these plugins. I thought I heard of all the SEO plugins out there, but I hadn't heard of these three before. They sound really useful too!
    • Michele Welch says:
You're welcome Richard. Glad to know I'm able to contribute! Take care.
  30. karan says:
Well I do use insight but never heard of the other two. Thank you for mentioning them
    • Michele Welch says:
You're welcome Karan. BTW, your post on 40'00+ social networking sites'... quite phenomenal!
      • Karan Labra says:
        Thanks for appreciation Michele.
  31. Sujith says:
Hi Michele, Thanks for the information about the SEO plugins. Presently I am using the "all in one SEO plugin" let me try these for some added functions.
    • Michele Welch says:
Hi Sujith, All-In-One SEO is great for optimization for sure! Won't do much for interlinking your articles or adding interactive value to your readers. Let me know how it goes. =)
    • Michael Aulia says:
I use Platinum SEO Pack, which basically is the same thing as All in One SEO, with a few bonuses :)
  32. Pritam says:
Great tips for making the blog more SEO optimizd. I will try to test and evaluate the performance for these plugins and go for the best one. Using more plugins make the sites load slower.
    • Michele Welch says:
Yes, something to consider. Must admit I'm guilty of plugin mania. Have quite a bit of them running at the moment. Time to check my site speed. =)
    • Karan Labra says:
Well you can always integrate some plugins which will really be beneficial for your blog at the cost of some "not so important" plugins.
  33. Blazing Minds says:
I've been using the "Insights" plugin for ages on my blog, it must be one of the best plugins for grabbing information from not only your own site but other sources, I find it extremely useful when I need to link to an older post in my latest article.
    • Michele Welch says:
Hi Blazing Minds, I've only used it for a little over two months and I LOVE it! Definitely a keeper (or at least something better comes al0ng =). I used it quite often for finding related videos as well which I feel just enhances my articles that much more. Thanks for your time!
  34. John Soares says:
Michele, thanks for this. The Insight plugin may be just what I need for dealing with interlinking all my posts.
    • Michele Welch says:
Hey John, Glad to here it may be of some use to you. Now if only I had invented you... shucks! =)
    • Karan Labra says:
This plugin is just amazing. I have been using it for quite a some time and I must say it saves me a LOT of time.
  35. Colleen says:
Very good recommendations Michele. We use none of these in our blog and need add something like one of these for not only the seo benefit, but the readership benefit. :)
    • Michele Welch says:
Hi Colleen, Good luck ...would love to hear back your take on it if you opt to use any of them. Have a fabulous day!
      • Colleen says:
        Thanks Michele, I will. :)
  36. DiTesco says:
Super cool indeed! I already have TOCC installed in my blog sometime now and it works like a charm. Will have to try the others. Not heard of insights plugin yet, but it seems "super interesting". Thanks for letting us know about this. BTW, You are really serious about your challenge, hehe! keep it up
    • Michele Welch says:
LOL...so glad you find it "super interesting" DiTesco. =) Not sure what you are currently using, but Insights can definitely save you a LOT of time looking for posts and pages to link to. Thanks for taking the time to check out the article. Ciao!
      • DiTesco says:
Currently using SEO Smartlinks and it has been working fairly well. Insights does "more" stuff as I can see and I have just installed in one my other website (experimental), to see how it goes. If it works well, then I'll test drive it on my main blog.
        • Michele Welch says:
Thanks for sharing what you use! I remember looking into that plugin, but didn't care for that fact that it does the linking automatically. I prefer to have more control. Will look into again though... if you use it, than it's a good sign. =)
  37. Ileane says:
Hey Michelle, thanks for the advice. The only one I used from your post is Insights. I thought it was pretty cool, except for the image suggestions. I think Zemanta is better in that regard. I started experimenting with Arkayne the other day and it offers suggestions on how to improve SEO in titles and keywords, however it looks like the best options are the paid ones. Have you tried that one out yet? The Keyword Density plugin is another one that I'm looking into but it's a little tricky to get used to. Have a great day Michelle!
    • Michele Welch says:
I haven't tried either one of those applications, although they do sound interesting indeed Ileane! Will definitely take a look. I don't mind paying for the plugins as long as I get an ROI. As for Keyword Density I've always used SEOQuake. It gives me a good general idea on my keyword usage, with allowing me to obsess over it. But thanks for letting me know... I'll have to check it out. Have a great day and thanks for your input!
  38. Kharim says:
Thanks for the share. I am gonna go install them on my blog right away :)
    • Michele Welch says:
Have fun Kharim. I hope it brings you as much pleasure as it does me. =)
  39. James King says:
Hi Michele, Cool tips. There's a lot of On-Page SEO that can be applied to enhance your online presence. Usablity is vital, making the site easy to navigate. PS Auto Site Map is a great WP plugin, because you can develop an awesome site, which helps Google crawl content. It's the same as the TOC plugin.
    • Michele Welch says:
Hi James, That what’s so great about WP… you are like a kid in a candy store with all the available plugins… just need to choose which flavor you like. =) Thanks for sharing this super cool plugin (Auto Site Map)…I will be sure to check it out! =)
