Sales Training and Your Success

October 27, 2012 - Last Modified: October 27, 2012 by Hesham Zebida

Sales Training

Your sales are where your profits reside. You can’t get to your profits without amassing sufficient & recurring sales. This is not a complicated equation, but somehow, business owners are still running themselves ragged when their sales are not up to speed.

Some of them find it hard to admit when their sales teams are under or non-performing, but this is the first loose brick in the collapse of their business. No one likes to say “Hey, we’re messing things up…” or “I don’t really know what I’m doing…” but sometimes, the only way to save something is to first admit that you’re not that good at it.

This wasn’t a deliberate mess-up on anyone’s part, however. When you hired your sales team, you must have felt that each individual could bring facets of their previous sales success to your operations.

Sales Training Helps

But while some people may possess a natural, extroverted sales personality, effective selling is something that must be developed. The raw materials aren’t going to be enough to get you the sales margins you want. This development of the raw ability to potentially be good at sales can be developed through sales training.

Sales training can help two kinds of sales people:

  1. Those who have a good sales record but need to be taught how to sell in a particular industry.
  2. Those who are aspiring sales people but need to develop and practice the skills, to increase their functional sales acumen.

Invest in Sales Training

If you want the best out of your sales team, you have to invest in training for them.

While they may have the general accreditations and experience from previous jobs, you want them to be able to apply their skills specifically to your business and industry. Sales training can effectively energize and unleash the power of sales team, turning their potential into actual ability. When your sales team is successful, your company will be successful too. Here are a couple things that sales training will do for your business:

  • a) Sales Training will help your team learn how to communicate more efficiently. Knowing how to talk to people is not good enough. The language of sales is specific, and it also requires the ability to listen effectively. It will also teach them the art of asking the right questions.
  • b) It will help them understand and learn how to apply proven sales methodologies. Instead of just winging it, they will learn how to develop a conversation towards a sale. Additionally, the training will expose them to successful closing techniques.
  • c) Objections often thwart the success of a sale, but the right training will teach your team how to anticipate and overcome them. Through processes like role playing, a trainer will present multiple potential objections, and teach your staff how to handle them, positively.

These are just a few of the benefits of implementing a sales training program to your business operations.

You want the best out of your team, and you want the most sales possible. You want your team to perform at a peak level, and the only way to do this is to give them to tools to unlock their potential.

Sales training is amazing it makes us so cunning & we come very good in negotiation. I think Sales force should be trained in such a way that it can tackle and overcome each and every target much before time. Thanks for sharing this good blog but I hate sales due to the target pressure.
  2. Alan says:
I absolutely agree with you that sales training is essential. I had some great sales classes in college and corprate sales training and they have helped me so much with sales, public speaking , and allowing me to be more comfortable in a sales position. A lot of people struggle with sales and are afraid of it, but they only need the training and experience to get used to it!
  3. Jacko says:
Businesses should be like machines that simply convert capital into more capital. Sales has to be the fuel that powers the machine. No fuel no sales no sales no business. I usually ask clients how much money are they spending to attract each new customer and they cannot answer this basic question. I ask them how much do they spend per lead and they can't answer this question either. All of this would be clear to them had they spent any time in sales training. Good post Hesham. Do you think the internet marketing crowd will pay attention to this? It's like that quote opportunity is often missed because it appears in the form or WORK. Why is it people continue to overlook the value of KNOWING what to do?

I simply hate sales, there is so much pressure in sales, I almost ruined my social life for 2 years, money is there in it but too much pressure but I\'ve learned so many things through it, how to handle clients, communication skills etc. I personally think Sales training is so important to be a real true success in marketing and selling.
  6. Swapnil says:
Sales Training is a vital element of training and developments program which should be compulsorily conducted by each and every organisation, as it helps the sales force to get deep and detailed knowledge about the product, also the ways to interact with the public and these knowledge is always helpful for the sales force to increase level of selling activities in every year, half yearly or monthly as the target set may be.Sales force should be trained in such a way that it can tackle and overcome each and every target much before time, as all the profits of the firm depend on sales of the firm, the more amount of sale
  7. Ben Troy says:
It should be obvious to each and every sales person that the better they know their product, the better chance they have in selling. It is also an axiom that the better they know their customer, the better the probability of selling to the customer

Hi Hesham, You can always learn something new in the area of sales. Never stop picking up information, for if you master the art of selling, you will always make money. Communication skills are in demand, and by selling persistently you quickly learn how to connect with individuals, and communicate with people. This is the essence of selling. You learn how to listen, the rarest of skills, really, and how to match your solution with an individual's problems after you've listened carefully. Listening is a lost art. Few listen. So studying sales, and receiving the proper training, will put you light years ahead of the herd. Thanks for sharing Hesham. Ryan

Sales training is so important to be a real true success in marketing and selling. I was a graduate of marketing program 3 years I was in school. My first job the boss still sent me away for a training course on how to close sales and uncover leads. The thing about sales is you never stop learning. Everyday I learn something new.
