Find out How Publishers Can Reconnect with Customers and Readers

March 8, 2012 - Last Modified: March 8, 2012 by Murray Newlands

Future of Publishing

In recent years, publishers have found it increasingly difficult to connect with customers in a space conductive to converting them further along the sales cycle. In this episode of Future of Publishing, host Murray Newlands interviews Echo’s Chris Saad about how publishers can turn back the tide and engage with customers on their own sites by bringing users from social media back to the publisher’s page.

Highlights:

  • Publishers’ own websites are often a better place to engage with customers than social media…
  • …But people are used to social media these days, so publishers have to go there…
  • …Unless there’s a way to draw them back…

Find out how Chris Saad hopes to draw them back in this episode of Future of Publishing.

Thank you making the effort to go about this, I find myself strongly about this and love learning more about social media is a really huge platform to get visitors but maybe too huge. I’m making an internship in a start-up in Ireland, our company is really helpful for SME’s but we have a big challenge. Whenever possible, as you gain expertise, might you mind updating your website with a lot more information? It is extremely ideal for me.

Interesting video. It kinda reinforces my prediction that "platform" type websites will dominate the space in the future. The problem with social media though is that small publishers end up spreading themselves too thin trying to keep up with content creation for social networks instead of concentrating on their own properties.

This is an interesting topic to me as I am currently learning the ins and outs of social media. It is easy enough to engage with people on social media, but it is another challenge to get those people back to your website. This is a bit part of why I am enjoying the blog format. It naturally encourages people to come back to check out your latest post and participate in the comments.

social media is a really huge platform to get visitors but maybe too huge. I'm making an internship in a start-up in Ireland, our company is really helpful for SME's but we have a big challenge: get visitors to our website and increase our popularity. Evidently a big challenge but very interesting... Thanks a lot for your advices.

Definitely, publishers own website is the primary online platform to connect with the engage the target audience. Social media is only secondary. The fact is you don't have as much control over social media platforms as your own website. When it's your own website, you can do almost anything that you think will help increase the level of engagement. And there are so many ways to direct people from social media platforms back to your website. The video is truly very interesting. Chris raises a great point. Thanks for the share.
