How To Implement a Successful Lead Generation Campaign

January 11, 2012 - Last Modified: April 1, 2014 by Easther Sudharta 1,169

Lead Generation

There’s a saying that “the money is in the list” This is very true and very much applicable for businesses that use a list of customers to connect to a wider range of potential clients and open doors for more business opportunities. When a business has a list, this serves as the leads.

The thing is, building a good list can be quite a challenge and at times, can become a tedious task. So how exactly can you operate a lead generation campaign so that it achieves maximum success?

1. Know your customers

This is the most basic step of all. How are you supposed to sell something when you don’t know who you’re selling to? When you identify the needs and problems of your customer, you can then tailor-make solutions for them so that they will find whatever you have to offer practical, relevant and attractive.

2. Come up with valuable giveaways

There’s nothing like a freebie to get people to notice your business. Who can turn down something they can use and not have to pay for? Many businesses have taken digital downloads and online courses as their giveaways because these are easy to access and provide business owners with a list of email addresses.

Giveaways may also take the form of

  • interviews
  • videos
  • audio files
  • eBooks
  • worksheets

Don’t let this list limit your imagination. Take a look at what your prospects need and then brainstorm how you can solve their problems with a giveaway. You can also provide customers with things that take time to complete, such as an autoresponder course that entails constant communication with the customer.

3. Create attractive opt-in forms

Opt-in forms are things that people browsing through your website have to fill up. You may place this on your landing page with the option for a giveaway, or you can choose to place it anywhere else on the site such as in a pop-up or slide.

You can even use a squeeze page, wherein customers have to provide an email address before they can enter the website or go to the other links on a page.

Doing some research on what kind of opt-in form will be beneficial as you’ll be able to tell which ones are most effective. Keep in mind however that the more blanks people have to fill in, the less likely they are to continue and enter the rest of a website.

4. Market your product/service/business opportunity

With the many available options in online marketing, this should be pretty easy and straightforward.

You don’t even need a huge budget for this. You can use free tools such as social networks, blogs and article directories to spread the word about your business. Or you can come up with a good campaign plan and make sure it’s implemented properly.

Once you have a list, no matter how many people there are on it, take advantage of it right away. Thank all those who signed up and provide them with updates and other offers that will assure them that they made the right choice. When you take care of your leads, you are effectively protecting your assets and in the future, these leads will become the building blocks of your business towards success!

You're right Ester. If we want to make our product more visible to the people without spending a huge amount of money, social media is the answer. Social media is much more than “engaging in the conversation”. It’s a new way of doing things, and a new set of tools to help you do it. You need to gain attention, build trust, and keep people engaged longer.Because in addition to growing your “social media presence”, you’ll also be able to get more traffic, bring in more leads and create more happy customers.

I have to pitch in on this one. Giveaways are one of the best motivators for people to sign up. Also solutions to a problem. A big one.

I am into SEO and recently got aware of opt in forms and how to generate leads. I agree with you that we should start making offers to our list even if we have few people. Some people wait for a very long time. There are also some people who do everything in Internet marketing but don't make a list. These people lose lot of customers. :-)

Hi Esther, I have finally got an idea on how to lead a successful Lead Generation Campaign. Also, knowing your customer is the best point you listed and will be keeping all the points in my mind. Giveaways helps us to attract users. Anyways, great article. Thanks.

Great post Easther, It's not only important to know your customer but also to build that relationship with them so you can cater to their ongoing requirements. A great way to do this is to conduct surveys with your list asking them pertinent questions in regard to their business needs. Sandy Moore

Hey Easther, Great Points Presented here. Another thing I would like to add to the giveaways is the option to conduct random giveaways. Example: You tell your readers that you are going to have a bunch of giveaways over the next few months, in random order. Then, you put it some requirements. Lets say you wanted to increase your comments. You will tell you subscribers that you will reward the best comment - for the month- with something (Cash, eBook or whatever). The benefit here is that you don't have to conduct this giveaway every month. You could just do it 2 times for 5 months and still get the same results with subscribers putting in more effort to write the comment. Another thing I would like to add is Trust :-) Build trust with your subscribers. Treat them like your best friend. Share you experience and talk to them as if you are talking to a best friend (helps you build trust). Thanks for the awesome read! Jeevan Jacob John

You are right Easther! There is money in the list. As one of the blog post I’d read, your business list is considered as one of your business asset. Thanks for the tips. It all goes down in choosing what seems to be the effective lead generation tool. With the right tool coupled with a good attitude towards reaching your goals will be the best key to be successful.

Hi Easther, I think the best way to know your customers is to let them find you via search engines. In my experience organic search traffic is the hottest you can get. I think a professionally designed squeeze page with organic traffic feeding it is about as good as you can get. :) Mark

I think auto responders are highly important to make that extra connection with your subscriber. The hard part is getting them to subscribe in the first place. How do you gain trust without being spammy or creating masses of content. A fine line I guess.

Interviewing people that are related to the niche is something i didnt think about.. sounds very interesting and simple to do. Thanks
  12. Jamie Northrup says:
Giveaways are all the rage lately, and they work, the better stuff you giveaway obviously the better turn out, but you have to also spread the word about the giveaway or contest.
  13. Ryan Biddulph says:
Hi Easther, Offering a power-packed freebie does awesome things for your list. Make you offering attractive. Over-deliver. Your list grows in proportion to the amount of value you offer through your blog and giveaway. Offer serious value. Give freely, receive generously. If you hold back and try to nickle and dime your list, your list won't grow. If you give your list immense value with your giveaway, your list begins to grow immensely as long as targeted visitors show up to your blog. Thanks for sharing with us :) RB
