Have You Noticed Google PageRank Update Today?

June 28, 2011 - Last Modified: June 28, 2011 by Hesham Zebida 1,202

Google PageRank Update

Google has updated it’s PageRank today, I just noticed that while checking one of my blogs and found out that my Chrome pagerank checker says PR 3 for that blog, so I kept checking my other blogs and some other friends’ blogs to make sure that the update occurred for real, so this is a quick post to let you know and to share some thoughts, I think this update is so freaking fair, what about you?!

The most fair Google PageRank I ever seen since I’ve started blogging!

Yes, this is the most Google PageRank update I ever came across, seriously!

I don’t care that much about PageRank since a few months back, but anyways it’s cool to see a rank on my sites! I can’t hide the dumb smile I had today when I found out the a few other sites got a PR for the first time.

Why my other sites is having a PR drop?

A few sites of mine dropped, those sites were not updated often, no body cares to link to them, I don’t really bother to get backlinks to them, and to be honest, those sites don’t provide value like they used to be, so I completely understand why the drop happened.

Check your Google PageRank Now!

Here is the link to Google PageRank checker tool.

I wonder if Google will keep the update going, this is July 2011 update, so the next update should be in three months from now, the next PR update will be next October if I am right!

Have you notice any changes to your site’s PageRank? Positive or negative?

What you did to get higher Google PageRank?

Please, share your blog’s PR and let us know whither you think it’s fair or not!

  1. Shilpa says:
Hello Hesham, Yes google has updated PR. My websites PR has been increased from PR0 to PR2. Now I am happy with my hard word and patience. Cheers!!
  2. Jarret says:
Hesham, initially I was happy with this update. One site went from 0 to 3, another 3 to 4, and my other site just stayed at PR3. Then last week, the first site went down to 2 and the second went from 4 to 2. It looks like 2 of the 3 sites got some type of PR penalty last week which is odd because I don't buy or sell links or otherwise violate webmaster TOS. Thoughts?
    • Tia says:
Jarret- apparently there was a mix-up of some sort. Bizchickblogs had gotten an increase and then got it taken away in the same week. It happened to a bunch of sites so you're not the only one.
  3. Salman says:
My blog jumped to PR 2 from 0 in this update .... BTW congrats to you !!
  4. Mayur says:
Yes, last week i was surprised to see that google had updated the page rank. One of my other sites got a PR3 from PR1. I had a feeling that its PR would increase because there has been a traffic spike on it since last 3 months.
  5. Satrap says:
While my blog's home page PR stayed the same (3), many (and I mean many, even pages like advertise, about...!) have gotten a PR2. Most of these page didn't have any PR before. I believe the most important thing that helped me here is my internal lining structure. Not trying to sound cocky, but I think I did a good job on that by linking to at least one other post from any given post and not over doing it. Either way, you can almost sense a new change in Google's calculation.
  6. fazal mayar says:
yep, mine jumped from pr0 to pr2. good stuff as you have pr4.
  7. Rob says:
Besides for the Page Rank checker tool, there are also a number of nifty Chrome Extensions that will check the PR of a given page. I personally like "SEO Site Tools." Check 'em out in the Google Extensions search!
  8. Liam Anderson says:
I have experienced what you've been too in regards to your other site which is dropping PR. I have noticed that blog since it's very active because it's where you share your thoughts and things you do in that day and be able to exchange thoughts from your visitors.
  9. Suraj says:
Hi, Even my blog made a jump from PR0 to PR2! I'm happy now!
    • Hesham says:
      Glad to hear that Suraj.
  10. Dean Saliba says:
I was very surprised to find a few of my blogs had been rewarded by Google. 1 blog went from PR3 to PR4 1 blog went from PR2 to P3
    • Hesham says:
      Great, thanks for sharing Dean!
  11. Johanna says:
Hi Hesham, Congratulations on the PR advancement on your blog/s! My blog was also enjoying the update and I'm very happy for it :) It seems that many other bloggers are experiencing this as well. I do hope everyone gets their blogs updated.
    • Hesham says:
That's great, happy blogging Johanna :)
  12. SenseiMattKlein says:
Mine went from 1 to 4 to I am happy as can be. Also noticed a recent uptick in traffic, so I am getting a bigger share of search engine traffic. Have spent a long time building quality links, so it is starting to pay off. Thanks for the heads up Hesham!
    • Hesham says:
I like the number 4 when it's about Page Rank, it feels great :) Enjoy!
  13. Adrienne says:
Hey Hesham, I had to come over here and comment on this post. Why? Because I'm upset with this recent change. My blog dropped from a PR4 to a PR2 and I blog weekly, get lots of traffic and some awesome comments. Me and some of my blogging friends are scratching our heads over this one. I've made no significant changes to my blog whatsoever and all my readers feel my content is very relevant. Who knows, I can't figure it out so I'll keep doing what I've been doing and keep moving in the direction I'm headed. But I am thrilled for all of those who saw an increase. PR may not matter to some, but when yours goes up it's an awesome feeling. Like all this hard work you've done means something in the eyes of Google. All I know is that they don't like me anymore. :-( Adrienne
    • Hesham says:
Hi Adrienne, probably you haven't got enough backlinks to hold the blog PR this time, please don't be upset, next time it will be fine! Yeap, if you did something and it's working for you then do it more! I wish you good luck next update, and many thanks for stopping by my post and share your thoughts.
  14. Andrew Broadbent says:
We are excited as well. Our site just went from a pr3 up to a pr5. We also got 2 of our seo clients sites up from a pr0 to a pr4. This panda algorithm is rewarding the good sites and penalizing the bad it seems.
    • Hesham says:
It seems that many blogs had a nice jump, thanks for sharing Andrew
  15. Tradutor Ingles says:
My six month website went from 0 to 4!
    • Hesham says:
      Great, keep it up!
  16. Ray says:
I had some go up and some go down slightly nothing major. I think for most google was pretty generous this time around. The funny thing is google.com dropped from a pr10 to pr9. There are a few sites with strange changes I've read about. Maybe they will have a minor update in the coming weeks to tweak a few of the strange ones. But, like I said most people seem to be content with the results.
    • Hesham says:
LOL! Man, wow.. I didn't notice that.. yes Google.com has a PR 9 now! I think they need more backlinks ;)
  17. James Martell says:
Hi Hesham, I was reading above and got a chuckle when I read the comment "PageRank doesn't matter". It's been my experience that comment quickly changes from "PageRank doesn't matter" to "Yipee I have a PageRank 3" when their PageRank bar is finally updated. ;) James
    • Hesham says:
LOL! That's true James, many people changed their minds about that once they got it :)
  18. Michael J Archibeck says:
Read on one site positive feedback about your blog. Initially did not believe it, but now convinced personally. It turns out I was not deceived.
  19. Timothy Arends says:
Thanks for the shout out! I did indeed notice the new page rank, and I thought it was due to some changes I had made to my sites/blogs! Now I know better!
    • Hesham says:
Great Timothy, so glad it was useful!
  20. Jitendra Singh says:
Yeah. I checked my blog too and found that I also got PR3 :) Yippe!!!
    • Hesham says:
It seems that many people are happy with their PageRank this update, congratulations Jitendra, enjoy your blog!
      • Jitendra Singh says:
        Thanks Hesham!!!
        • Hesham says:
          You are welcome!
  21. Matt Poc says:
Wow, my blog (that I did not update for 1 month) with about 30 posts, which is about 5 months old has a page rank of 2! That's ridicilious! But I am not going to complain, anyway :) That's interesting indeed... I did not do any backlinks or whatsoever, but my blog still has a page rank of 2 :). Matt Poc
    • Hesham says:
mmm.. interesting! But you know Matt, if you think about it you will find out that PR 2 is really low rank.. It's 2 out of 10, this is really low rank but it indicates something good anyways!
  22. Vijayraj Reddy says:
congrats, i also got page rank 2 for my blog.....
    • Hesham says:
Nice! Thanks for stopping by Vijayraj
  23. Sreejesh says:
I was out of station for last 6 days, I just returned back home and I was surprised to see my blog is now PR4. Hurray!
    • Hesham says:
That's pretty cool Sreejesh, keep it up!
  24. Lee Ka Hoong says:
I've not seen any updates on my blog, perhaps I didn't update the blog too frequent and Google refuses to give it any green light. Anyway, I used to improve PR for my blog by doing blog commenting, guest posting, and etc, not much I would do, I'm trying to do it naturally. :)
    • Hesham says:
The good thing is no drops in PageRank ;)
  25. AJ Clarke says:
I didn't realize there was an update. But this is great news! I had been struggling with a page rank of 3 for about 2 years. Looks like my site just got bumped up to a 6 :) I am not sure if it will have any effect on my rankings/traffic but hopefully it does.
    • Hesham says:
Wow that's really really cool AJ, I know you have been working so hard during the last a few months, so well.. done buddy!
  26. James Johnston says:
My blog URL dropped from PR3 to PR but my personal page Went from a PR2 which is cool, since I really wasn't trying to build links to it. Mostly I was linking from the blog back to my personal page whenever I mentioned Evolutionary Designs. As for dropping PR, I am a little surprised. I have been messing with settings and nameservers for the last month or so and making changes to code itself. Between those changes and other personal stuff going on, I haven't spent much time working on building backlinks. After checking Google Webmaster tools, I lost over 6000 backlinks from sites disappearing. Some of those are bookingmarking sites such as Bloggerluv and few others. But others were natural backlinks from sites that just went away. So now, that its dropped, I can make the major changes and not worry about dropping anymore. I know it could drop but I have plenty of time to rebuild backlinks and get back to PR or hopefully jump to PR 4.
    • Hesham says:
Hey James, I know you don't try to build backlinks and stuff like that, but you know.. I think the main reason of the drop is updating the site more frequently! I have no idea why you lost those backlinks, that's interesting! I think it will go back to it's old PR in the next update, keep it up buddy.
  27. Nasif says:
My blog got PR 3 from PR 2 finally after a year. Phew...
    • Hesham says:
      Cool!
  28. Deepu Balan says:
It's really encouraging to see my 18 month old web design blog's page rank gone up to PR-5 from PR-3. -Deepu
    • Hesham says:
      That's really awesome, what's your secret? :)
  29. Allie says:
Hesham, I did! I have been wanting to share my new rank with everyone! I was at 0, now I am at 2! I wondered when the next rank adjustment would be. So now I have until October to work hard for another jump up. Thx for asking. :-) ~Allie P.S. Everyone is wondering why Google is generous at times and other it's not. I know why, I am really good at kissing Google Butt. LOL. I LOVE YOU, GOOGLE. You're THE BEST. Hee hee.
    • Hesham says:
Nice, I don't think that Google is generous or anything from that! to me this is only a reflection for hard work! Thanks for stopping by.
  30. Sujith says:
In January update Google surprised me with a PR-7. In this update dropped to 6. Number game continues....
    • Hesham says:
WOW, it's really hard to get PR 6 .. so imagine 7 :)
  31. Randy Pickard says:
My 8 month old blog jumped from 0 to 3, as did my primary ecommerce site. But surprisingly, a secondary ecommerce site that I have not spent effort behind on link building also jumped to a 3. Given PageRank is a logarithmic scale, and conventional wisdom indicates that it requires 5-8 times as much link juice to move up another rung on the scale, I am still a bit surprised that all three sites share the same PageRank.
  32. Justin Germino says:
I have watched my site grow to PR4 in December, drop to PR2 last month to finally tank to PR0 with this latest update. I was warned by Google via webmaster tools that they were penalizing me and they mean't it.
    • Hesham says:
mmm.. Justin, I think it's because of theme change and the other stuff like "reviews", this happened to one of my blogs once before. I think Google sees your blog with a different eye!
      • Justin Germino says:
Nah, I got a message from Google on Webmaster tools that they detected paid links in my site and they were punishing me. I was experimenting with Teliad and Intellilinks and I did accept some paid links on my homepage and was slapped. All in the name of research, I blame Ditesco as he was the one who recommended Intellilinks (Just kidding Francisco I don't really blame you).
  33. Brankica says:
I am happy my blog got PR 3 and I am even happier that there is quite the number of pages that got good PR. I do have to say that I have different experience with a niche site. I haven't updated it for months (maybe one or two page in last 6 months) and I haven't build a single back link to it for at least 9 months but it went from 1 to PR 3.
    • Allie says:
Brankica, Very interesting about the niche site. Google keeps us guessing. I try to find patterns in people's experiences and I just can't. I guess I don't think like a machine. ~Allie
    • Hesham says:
Awesome Brankica , Your blog was one of the blogs I've checked yesterday lol, I also checked your contest post, it has a PR of 4 :) Keep rocking!
  34. Latief says:
Yes, I checked yesterday by coincident, my blog still 3 its about two years now :( No preparation this time for PR but PR 3 is still good since I got my PR 3 just in 3 months Hesham. I saw your blog got PR 4, congrats dear friend ;)
    • Hesham says:
Hi Latief , There is nothing wrong with keeping your blog PR, at least it didn't drop :) My blog has PR 4 since the last update, so it didn't change!
      • Latief says:
Agree with you, PR 3 is not that bad but I'll be happy if this time I get better PR. Seems need to work harder to get better PR for the next up date.
  35. Faissal Alhaithami says:
my blog PR increased from 0 to 2 and this is awesome :D and my other website increased to be 1. I worked in getting backlinks and increasing my blog authority and the result was amazing, I'll continue working on that :D and I must say that Hobo Google SEO eBook help me alot on that!
  36. AIDY says:
Just checked my blog's PR after not ever caring about PR and now, I am a PR 3. Am I excited about it? Meh. But, it is good to know that the almighty Google Gods think my blog is worthy. *happy dance.*
  37. Brenda says:
Honestly? I gave up trying and thought it would never happen. I went from 0 to 3! Nice to see that just doing things naturally and organically pays off one in a while. Thanks so much for the article and the PR tool link. Brenda
  38. Sanjay Singhania says:
i saw the google page rank updates, even the blog post has a page rank, it seems amazing, but is there a new update in the page ranking system?
  39. doug_eike says:
Thanks for the information! I experienced a jump to PR3 on both of my blogs. I have no more traffic than normal, and I have not been working on backlinks. All I've been doing is developing content. Thanks again.
  40. Denise Gabbard says:
Pretty excited to no longer be a ZERO! Been working hard, and finally Google has taken notice of us little people--- and this morning, my blog has a PR of 2:)
  41. Per-Erik Olsen says:
Thanks Hesham. I wasn't aware of that until I got your message. I checked it at my blog immediately and YES! I went from 0 to 2. So I guess I am doing something right! :-)
  42. Andreas says:
A lot of sites involved in linking have increased a lot, sometimes even 3 ranks up. However pagerank is just a small factor in a large algorithm that includes also other factors like traffic, bounce back to results ratio and social media activity.
  43. Nasrul Hanis says:
As usual - there's up and down but as you say, I think that the update is fair this time and it gives me impression of how my blogs are going on. And yeah.. I need to improve some blogs while maintaining others. Good luck everyone and congratulations for those with increasing pagerank! :D
  44. Ming Jong Tey says:
Hi Hesham, I noticed the PR update first thing in the morning when someone email me to check out webmasterworld.com about the PR changes. I quickly checked several of my sites. There are mainly small jump for a few of my niche sites but I got 1 site from PR0 to PR4 while the other still remain PR0. This really puzzled me since I started those 2 sites about the same time and the backlinking method and the quantity are similar too. Anyway, just can't be bothered too much about the PR. However, I wonder how the domain flipper will go about this? This is going to affect them big time. I checked Digital Point domain selling section, some of the claimed PR3 domain become PR0... Cheers, Ming
  45. Amanda Gordon says:
I had couple of my sites go to PR2 and one to PR3. Another new blog (which is now the primary one I focus) that I started recently is still at zero. I guess that beats NA. The one that went to PR3 got goodish number of backlinks from a joomla template that I submitted with footer links.
  46. Nipon says:
I pr went up from 0 to 2.This is good for my blog though.Let's see what can I do next.
  47. Patricia says:
Hi Hesham With all the work that you put in, yay to all your great PR sites. I was pleasantly surprised to get PR2 on my small niche blog too. Was chatting to a blogging buddy last night and she noticed PR on her site and then checked mine. Didn't even know it was happening so nice surprise :-) Patricia Perth Australia
  48. Bagus H. Jihad says:
My blog got PR 3, I think this is in accordance with the efforts I have done. I hope to continue to grow in the next update. Thanks.
  49. Jan Dirk says:
I got a page rank of 1 yay! haha
  50. Melinda says:
I did notice that. I was excited because the one I put my heart into that isn't a year old yet is now a 3 and another one went up to a 2. Looking at my 3 sites I think their page ranks are very accurate. Looks like whatever Google looked at, it is as it should be...finally. :)
  51. Musthafa says:
My blog got PR0 but, I cant see any drop in my traffic and search visitors. PR is less related to search traffic. Chosing the right keywords and Backlinks are the main requirement for that. Next Update Date and Time of Google PageRank to Websites and Blogs
  52. The Londoneer says:
It looks like you're right - unfortunately my blogger blog which was a PR5 has now dropped back to a PR4 even though it's been moved to a private domain, which is supposed to be good for PR. Well, whatever - it's better than a big fat zero!
  53. Vidya Sury says:
Thanks for the heads-up, Hesham. Saw your email today and checked. Pleasantly surprised to see one of my blogs go from 0 to PR2 and another from PR1 to PR2. My 13-year old son Vidur immediately HAD to check both his blogs and hey, hey, what a pleasant surprise to see 0 to PR3 on both his blogs. So content is still wearing that crown, eh? However, I moved my main blog with PR2 to a custom domain just ten days ago. So naturally, there's no PR there yet, since it is a new URL for the search engines :-), even though it is the same blog. And again - I tremendously enjoy your newsletters. Your welcome email when I subscribed, ages ago, is still the best I ever received. :-)
    • Hesham says:
WOW Vidya, that's really nice, I believe your sun is so excited about it! Yeah, I understand that moving to another domain will not help you move the furniture that easy :) That's so nice of you to remember my first welcome email, this makes my day. Many thanks for stopping by.
  54. KBharath says:
One of my Blog got PR2 from O its a really great day.
    • Hesham says:
Good to hear that KBharath :)
  55. Shamis says:
I was pleasantly surprised to see my 7 month old (properly) travel blog page rank going from 0 to 2. Though I've done quite some work and thought the efforts were being paid off, all efforts were not to gain a PR score but to make it more 'reader friendly'. Either way I'm not complaining :)
    • Hesham says:
Shamis, your hard work will never lead to fail, also Google PageRank is not the only indication that you worked hard, there are many important things than that! Keep up with the good work, especially focusing with your readers, this is the best. Good luck and thanks for stopping by my post.
  56. shenoyjoseph says:
My blogspot also got both pr3 and 8 sitelinks. I m very happy now and thanks to Google for recognizing our bloggers hard work. :)
    • Hesham says:
I believe that many bloggers did great job and provided more quality content in the last a few month than they ever did, keep it up shenoyjoseph!
  57. Peter L Masters says:
Hi Thanks for the post! I've never really given too much thought to Page Ranking, just happily doing what I do and hoping that one day my efforts would be rewarded. They were, yesterday with a ranking of 4, which I am told is pretty good!! Looks like the early mornings and late nights are finally starting to pay off!! Thanks for addressing the subject! Best regards, Peter
    • Hesham says:
Hi Peter, this is good thing, at least you don't bother yourself with such pagerank thing! Yeap, I think PR 4 is good, thanks for stopping by my post.
  58. Natalie says:
I think Google has been very generous and might take it all back again at the next update. BTW - I think the next one will be end of November. I don;t think Google is updating every three months anymore.
    • Hesham says:
LOL! so true Natalie, Google may take it any time :) mmm.. probably you are right, let's see what will happen, thanks for stopping by.
  59. Rajan Balana says:
My Blog has got PR3. I am very happy with that :)
    • Hesham says:
That's really nice Rajan , glad to hear that!
  60. Pubudu says:
They have started the update yesterday! Google kindly updated my site's (techhamlet.com) PR from 4 to PR 5 yesterday! :)
    • Hesham says:
Yeap, that's true.. I just published this post in a very late time, it's 3:48 am here and I am confused because I am not at the same time zone I used to be! That's really nice Pubudu, I would like to know what you did :)
      • Pubudu says:
Hehe... trust me my friend! Im not an SEO specialist.... I just bought two backlink packages at fiverr.com recently... Mostly i focused on giving quality content to my reader and also focused a lot in optimizing my servers to boost the performance of my site :) Didn't do anything special for SEO :D
        • Hesham says:
LOL! I am not an SEO expert either, and I don't think there are any! That's a good way to go buddy, well done, and thanks for sharing.
          • Pubudu says:
            You welcome bro!
  61. Dave Lucas says:
Hi Hesham! Thanks for the article. I checked my main blog PR and it has gone down. Funny thing is, my traffic has never been higher and my "backlinks" never as strong. (I had a PR6 a few years ago when my blog really SUCKED!) ... I notice that an awful lot of bloggers don't bother displaying PR results like they used to (I'm referring to those 'big name" and "A-list" bloggers, many of whom have moved recently to tumblr). I guess it is "head scratching time" - I just got an order for an advert on my blog based on performance via alexa. Now Hesham, I don't really think alexa is that big a force and I have read other bloggers' posts dismissing alexa as having any importance at all. But apparently it does. I guess the bigger question here is SHOULD BLOGGERS really be that CONCERNED over ratings given by PagERank, alexa and whatever other services are out there? There are some mighty fine blogs I read at least once a week that have PR0 and don't display alexa, but they are great blogs with great articles. I also checked Famous Bloggers which has PR4. I thought it would at least be PR6 because the content is excellent and there are so many wonderful backlinks. Perhaps we have to cater to the "machine line of thinking" to get better PR? Your thoughts on this, all of you "Famous Bloggers"?
    • Hesham says:
Sorry to hear that Dave, well.. Anyways.. It doesn't really matter! I agree on your questions, I think bloggers care if they sell ads on the blog, higher PageRank means higher ads prices!
