Guest Posting is About Relationship

Guest Posting Relationship

Some of us might submit a lot of guest articles to various sites per month or even per day. Some of us might still in progress to be a guest blogger – thinking how to be one and how to start guest posting.

If you are still guessing how to make guest posting a great asset for you and your site, you have to keep in mind that guest posting is about relationship. The term ‘relationship’ can be defined as ‘The condition or fact of being related; connection or association’ or ‘A particular type of connection existing between people related to or having dealings with each other’ (based on thefreedictionary.com)

Let’s see some important relationships in guest posting.

1. Relationship between guest writer – webmaster

This relationship is important as without the involvement of guest writer or webmaster, guest posting won’t be happen. A guest writer writes article to be published in the webmaster’s site and that’s how it works. In most cases a webmaster will choose whether to approve or reject a guest article or not. A webmaster should choose the best and suitable guest article or not – the guest article might ruin the site’s reputation. A guest writer should create a relationship with the webmaster for a long-term deal which involves both parties.

2. Relationship between webmaster – readers

Besides dealing with the guest writer, a webmaster has to deal and interact with the readers of the site. A webmaster should respond to the readers if they ask question or say any comment to the article. That’s why a webmaster should understand the guest article that he or she receive from the guest writer before approve and publish it in the site.

3. Relationship between guest writer – readers

Some guest writers might think that their job is done after submitting the article to the webmaster and make sure it had been approved and published in the particular site but they are wrong. A guest writer must feel responsible for every article that he/she submitted so a guest writer must take part in the discussion between the webmasters and the readers. Sometimes the webmaster can’t give a good answer as the guest writer might understand more than the webmaster about the content. And this is the most suitable time for the guest writer to build his/her reputation as a writer thus making the way for a bigger success in the future.

Wrap Up

I always consider about relationship in doing guest posting as ignoring any of the relationships mentioned above might give negative effects to the reputation – something which is hard to be build up again.

Some people might say that I’m talking a simple matter but I believe this is a basic thing in guest posting. And I guess this is the basic matter before we going into other discussions related to guest posting. And I’ll make this relationships as my kickstart to share any ideas or tips related to guest posting matters.

Do you have any other relationships that you consider while doing guest posting?

It's a never ending exciting life, you write and then post it, reply to comments and from the comments you will come up with a new idea, and there you go, especially if I think a lot about this particular topic, i can't sleep thinking about it, so I write and express everything through it.
  2. MikeRamsey says:
I’ve seen on a site that the guest writer also took charge of answering to comments in his post. I just thought replying to comments is still a sole responsibility of the guest writer and not the webmaster. But I got your point that he’s the blog owner so he must at least know what’s going on with the post to avoid any future problem.
  3. Usama says:
Guest posting is a honor to the guest and commenting on it is a bonus. So don't just leave it like it that and make an extra effort. Thanks.

I have someone who is going to be doing a guest post for my blog. How do people usually submit content for guest blog posts? Do they email? Do you give them a login to your wordpress account? I'm pretty much clueless on how this all happens. Help!
  5. Daniel Lew says:
I totally agree on this, I am a going to make it clear from now on, anyone who does a guest post on my blog, they must comment back to other commentators on the article they did!
  6. jared thompson says:
great spin on the often covered topic of guest posting, many benefits and negatives there are in guest writing. But first think about the relationship you are creating with the person your working with. Good points.
  7. Ben Lang says:
Hey Nasrul, Yes guest posting is a heavy relationship, I've been concentrating on offering guest posting on my blog lately. It's been doing very well, I now have a great team of regular contributors, and I've learned so much from the relationship... Nice to connect
  8. Julius says:
One of the big mistakes people make is to simply create a guest post but then try to connect to the following of the blog that features the post. It's actually the best way to build a reputation and to show that you do know something about your topic.
  9. Tommy Patterson says:
I agree with comments above. Once a post is written and published, take the time to read others comments and "nurture" the blog. - Tommy Patterson
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yeah, both webmaster and guest writer should follow the published article or it can't be optimized well!
  10. TJ McDowell says:
So, I'm new to this whole guest blogging thing - did I understand you right that you're saying it's the responsibility of the site owner to respond to comments? I would have thought it was the author who should be responsible.
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yes, I did mention both webmaster and the guest writer to reply to the comments because this reflects the credibility and commitment of both webmaster and guest writer for the published article which means: * Webmaster approved the guest article because he understand that the article is eligible to be published based on the website's standard. * Guest writer really understand what he/she is writing about. By doing this, I think the message from the article can be properly elaborated and understandable by the readers. Benefits for both webmaster & guest writer! :D
  11. Steve says:
Guest posting really is a symbiotic relationship. It is one of the few relatioships where is everyone puts there 'all' into it everybody walks away a winner. guest poster: gets to expand his/her reach to people that they may not know site owner: gets solid content and perhaps a little bit of a 'new' veiwpoint reader: get to experience a new voice and perhaps someone else who's material they may love within the niche. one of the only win-win-win scenario's there are
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yeah.. you're right and you got interesting points there! Guest posting involves relationship between different persons and even websites and that's why I would like to stress the importance of realizing this relationship as the essential knowledge of guest posting! :D
  12. Tinh says:
It is also a relationship between guest bloggers and potential clients too :-)
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yes, Tinh. You're right! The webmaster who receive the article and the readers could be the potential clients by reading your guest article somewhere out of your site! In other words, it's like exposing yourself out of your own boundary :D
  13. Will says:
Hallo Nasrul, It's a nice observation that you make here - and the three types of relationships you describe pretty much covers it I think.... Best wishes Will
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yeah, for me it's the basic of guest posting that we should consider. The detail explanation for sure will not enough to be explored in one day or one article - you have to understand it by feeling and experience it yourself. Thanks Will for your comment! :D
  14. tushar says:
great interpretation and people always thought (including me) that guest posting is just for one purpose---- to attract traffic to your blog
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
nope. it's more than that ;) guest posting helps you to expose yourself and your site, building credibility and you might open a new potential for yourself and your site via guest posting. who knows? getting traffic is just one benefit from guest posting. you'll find more if you're consistent in doing it :D
  15. Patricia says:
I have been invited to guest post on two blogs but as I am a newbie to blogging have not taken up the invitations yet. These are some good points discussed here. I definitely believe that if you guest post you should be polite and answer the comments made about your post. Patricia Perth Australia
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yes, I agree with you. You should be polite when dealing with other person (writer/webmaster/etc) on the web because the way you communicate gives other person impression about you. To be a successful guest writer or webmaster itself, attitude is important as it shows other person on the other party of - who you are :)
  16. Gloson says:
Another relationship is: guest blogging is a win-win-win situation - if you guest post, you win, the webmaster wins, and the webmaster's readers win. :D
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yeah.. and that's why guest posting is awesome! :D
  17. Murlu says:
When you follow your guest post and reply to comments you're doing two things: - Creating community involvement - Showing the webmaster you're dedicated The first helps build your brand because it sets you out in the open while the later helps build a network with the webmaster which can lead to additional opportunities in the future. You just have to get over your fear of submitting a guest post and do it.
    • Hesham says:
I am facing some problems with a few bloggers, I had to reject some posts because I felt they will never show up again to reply to comment!
      • Nasrul Hanis says:
oh gosh. they should realize how awesome it is to read what people think about your article and reply to them! :D
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yes.. and that's what every guest writer should do!
  18. lawmacs says:
That's right writing a guest post and having it published should not be the end of the process after all it is your post you should respond to the readers you just amde some valid point here
    • Nasrul Hanis says:
Yeah.. it's a continuous process actually. Be consistent and never put an end point to what you're doing. Write good articles and reply to the comments. Do again and again and make sure it works! :D
