5 Groovy Tips to Earn More Money From Your Blog

June 7, 2012 - Last Modified: June 7, 2012 by Mitz Pantic

Earn More Money

Firstly, I need all the bloggers that are not blogging to earn money to put their hands up. Ok so no one has put their hands up. That’s totally groovy, because you would probably be lying if you did. (liar, liar pants on fire)

So we must all be interested in making money then? GROOVY

Let’s check out the Groovy Tips to earn more dollars and make you smile…

Practice What You Preach Baby

Don’t expect Mini Me to buy something just because you say it is great! Show him some proof baby. Buy the product you are preaching about and use it.

You can’t dress up as a preacher and not live the life! When people see you are for real and practice what you preach they will trust you and buy from your links. When you walk the walk and not just talk the talk, you will earn extra money.

Mention It or Die!

But there is one problem. You cannot sell stuff if you do not mention it in the first place. Derr..Didn’t you know that? You need to talk about products and link to them to sell anything at all. This is best done within your content as dirty big links in the sidebar with big red arrows pointing to them is not good sidebar etiquette. You need to be groovy about your affiliate linking as it is all touch and go baby. Also don’t be an idiot and use links that are not in fashion with your blog. It’s like wearing pink with orange, it’s just not groovy.

Kick Goals and Plant Flowers

Have a goal in life and in each article you create. Sounds silly but I suggest you stop and think…

So you are just about to publish a cool article, very interesting, maybe even a groovy pillar. But what is the goal for the article? Do you want people to click an affiliate link, visit another page, or sign up for your groovy newsletter? Hopefully you have some kind of goal included and you are not wasting your time fluffing your pom pom and pretending to be famous.

I think of my goals as planting flowers. Yes maybe a bit weird but if you do not plant flowers they will not grow and your garden will not look pretty. So think about your goals and starting planting flowers!

Find Out What’s Groovy

Where is the grooviest (if there is such a word?) part of your blog? Because I am in this to make money, the pages that make money are groovy for me.

You can find this out by tracking your affiliate sales. This can be done by creating special affiliate links for certain pages, watching your stats, or even settings goals in Google Analytics. Let’s not get too deep though baby, that was the cool tip and the rest is up to you. All I do is think to myself, “How the hell am I going to track this sale on this page?”

Link to The Money Honey

Some people call the pages that make money, money pages. Hmm, wonder how they came up with that? Anyway, you need to link often to these money pages to ensure you are racking up more sales. This can mean internal links from other posts on your blog or it can mean external links coming in. Either way, I guarantee more sales if you do this for your proven money pages.

My secret tip is to always link a new post on my blog to a money page. This keeps the money pages alive and well and pumps some new blood into them. It is not like mixing a groovy martini you know, because that takes serious skill.

Anyway earning more money is totally the way to go, so grab these groovy tips and use the fantabulous things ASAP baby.

P.S I know these tips seem simple but it is all bloody simple darling!

Great post Mitz. These are very simple & basic rules but you it staggers me how many people ignore them and then complain about not making money. Common sense people! I have wondered if changing the name of my "make money" to something like "How I Make Money Baby!" would attract any more interest than the normal boring "make money" I currently have. :P

Hi Mitz! First off I have to say that your article really made me smile and giggle. :) At the same time your article was very informative. I agree with what you were explaining, especially about practicing what you preach. These days I see alot of affiliate marketers write nothing but hype in their review articles, and sales pages but they have nothing to show for it. That's one way to lose people's trust. They can tell whether you're real and trustworthy or just full of fluff. This article would really help those who want to learn how to go about making money from their blogs- Thanks for sharing this!

  5. Karen says:
Sometimes, subtlety does not work. It is important to be direct to the point as to what your readers to do, whether to click a link or buy a product.
  6. Bishwajeet says:

This is a sensitive subject, as I've read so many thing about this. Nevertheless, my own experience tells me that your tips are very accurate. I emphasize on the importance of a good internal linking system, to ease the navigation but to also improve the earnings.
    • mitz says:
Hi Jack Yes you would know about these tips with experience and I agree that internal linking improve earnings. Internal linking is very underestimated. :)

Having tested and being natural in order to promote companies-products are two simple, effective and also honest tips. I agree that there should not be many ads all over the blog neither affiliate links in every blog post because this is getting you out of the main blogging goal. The readers need the informative articles advices tips around their niche and also some tested products. About the passive vs direct sales, not that anyone asked me ;-) but I believe that it can be combined. After all if you don't try different thinks you wont be able to have a clear opinion. Thank you for sharing.
    • mitz says:
I agree that both passive and direct sales can be combined. :)
  13. Divas Chitkara says:
having a goal, sets you a target .....which will help in some way agree with the other tips too thnx for sharing
  14. Enstine Muki says:
Quite interesting tips. The strategy on 'money pages' looks very bright. What do you think would be the content of this 'money pages' ? Product review ?
    • mitz says:
For money pages you can have a review, a buying guide, or even a tutorial.. But you have to show people how the product will benefit them. For example a tutorial might show people how to remove a virus from their computers. It is a free tutorial and works if the steps are applied. BUT people are lazy and so you also offer a quick solution like software to do the job for them.. Now they have a free option or paid.. People will rarely take the free option as it is a hassle. :)
  15. Dhanna says:
Yes, these tips are simple yet very useful! Affiliate marketing is a good idea but how to do you this to be an effective source of income?
    • mitz says:
Mostly it takes experience. When you start getting sales you will be able to see what works and go with that. These tips are very basic but really helpful to start with.
  16. Abdul rehman says:
Interesting take, Mitz. Yeah, I too feel that it is quite ethical to actually "practice what you preach", and that way you can have a better insight that can help you market the product better.
    • mitz says:
Yes it really does make you more of an expert if you can try the product first. also it can be a disaster if you are recommending a crappy product.
  17. Joe Boyle says:
Unlike the opening would lead most to believe, not all bloggers are in it for money. Let's debunk that right now. I, for one, am not. I have been blogging (on and off, on different platforms, to different extents of success) for nearly 5 years total. I've never aimed at making a penny (I could have and was asked by readers of my first launch of my blog in 2010 to start monetizing), nor did I. Many points where I could have made money arose, but I never was too keen on making money at the time - it wasn't needed. Okay, let's put this tangent aside and get on with the real point. I think the general key is to be natural with it. Nobody wants 500 advertisements all over a website, and nobody wants to see every word in an article linked to an affiliate source, especially when they are irrelevant to the post. Appearing natural and appearing like you just want to make money are very obvious in any blogger. Nobody is in the middle - either you look natural or you don't.
    • mitz says:
That's great that you are not trying to earn money from your blog and don't need it but there are a lot that use blogging to get extra cash as times are tough. Blogging is a genuine for of income now and there is no shame in wanting to make some money from it. I agree that the key to linking is to be natural with it as too many ads spoil the outlook of the blog. Very good point :)
  18. Jacko says:
Good post. Yeah mention it or die. You have to ask for the sale at some point right? How do you feel about passive vs direct sales approach?
    • mitz says:
Hi Jacko If you visit my blog I hardly ever fully review anything (only stuff I have used for ages) and I never push people to buy. I have a direct method though that does not seem that way. I guess my approach is not passive either but you would have to be experienced to see I was selling anything at all. It is really amazing how many sales a tiny little text link can bring in.. This is exactly why I never have those in content link advertising like Kontera. They take away your profit.
