5 Reasons Why I’m Disliking your Facebook Page

September 5, 2011 - Last Modified: April 1, 2014 by Faissal Alhaithami 1,615

Facebook Dislike

Everyone knows that facebook is a social networking site, so people use it to connect to each other. Furthermore, Facebook made the public profiles/pages to allow brands to connect with their fans, if you have a Facebook page you should connect with your audience the right way. I was thinking what are the things that the page owners should avoid or what are the motivations that make me or anyone else to dislike a page.

1- To many marketing updates, I want some knowledge from you

I Liked your Facebook page because I want to connect with you to gain knowledge and learn from your experiences. It will be unfortunate if you only update about recommended products. I’m not against this idea because I know a lot of affiliate marketers who promote products through their facebook pages but they also know when they should update, they share knowledge more than they share about products. I thought it won’t hurt if 10% if your updates are affiliate links.

2- I have liked your page long time ago but you haven’t posted anything yet to your page

As I said in my first point that I liked your page to hear more from you. You should usually update me about your latest blog posts or news? Maybe about what happens about your project. What is more, you can even ask questions to your fans, so you can make them feel that you are around them.

3- You don’t reply to my questions on your page wall and the comments in your status updates

It’s really not nice when I asked you a question and the only thing you can do is “Ignoring” me. I will absolutely dislike your page without any hesitation. There is no excuse for this even though you are a very busy person. You should the find time for your followers who respect and trust you. Moreover, you need to connect with your fans by answering their questions and help them with what they need. Believe me they are going to love you so much and will help you grow your online business if you do.

4-You are too self involved

Your page always (and I mean, ALWAYS!) talks about how you generate a million dollars, how you have so many twitter followers or how you have thousands and thousands of subscribers.  I love success stories, but I want to know “how” you did this not only what you have done.

5- You post updates so much, that you fill my news feed with your updates.

It is good to post updates to your page “usually”  but don’t get me wrong, because I didn’t say that you should flood my news feed with your update. I really want to know what my friends have posted recently and I don’t like to waste my time scrolling to the bottom of the page. In addition, you should have a gap between each update.  This way you give us time to read your updates without annoying us.

I might add.....the TOP reasons people are disliking facebook itself now is because if this new timeline ....grrrr.... driving some people I know over the wall!
  2. Navin Kunwar says:
i unlike facebook pages to maintain flow of update, unnecessary update waste the valuable time.
  3. Abhi Balani says:
Completely agree with #5. I really hate those, even some friends that hides everything from my wall. huh,,,
  4. kawan says:
Aggreed with point 5. Most of the fact i hate some facebook page is due to massive status /photos update with nonsense theme.
    • faissal alhaithami says:
We all hate that :@ it is great that facebook makes it easy to us to hide their updates from our news feed.
  5. Caleb says:
I'm feeling number 4...those "I make millions and chill in my yacht all day" gurus rarely tell how they made it to that level and I cannot help but think the reason for this may be because they don't want us knowing some of the possible foulness involved
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
WOW great point you mentioned Caleb :D and maybe they are good on the art of story telling :) which makes things AWESOME to people :D
  6. Laurie Hurley says:
#4 I love! My EX-mentor/coach preached "be a giver" but was a "taker" in every aspect. All of her posts were about how successful she was, who booked her to speak, how much her new clients were paying her. It was narcissism at it's best. A real turn-off. Love the other pointers, too!
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Yeah this is really crazy, what are we going to get from how much they earn, we want to know ( How they earn :D ) Thanks Laurie for the comment, and thanks a lot for stopping by ;)
  7. Ricardus says:
Point no.5 is totally true. I disliked so many pages because of that very reason.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
LOL!! Thanks for the comment Ricardus.
  8. Karen says:
Just curious if the FB page is neccessary? I have a ton of followers on twitter but I haven't been able to do that on FB. The truth is. . I really don't like FB. Should I dump it?
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Smart marketer always think of all the ways to engage, you need to think that some of your visitors don't have twitter account. On other word, you need to make it easy for people to connect with you. Facebook is a great tool, that you don't have to dump :)
  9. Thabane Rambau says:
Well thanks for sharing this information, is really is informative and will change our perspective I and other people who know to appreciate a good thing. Thanks, ciao.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
you so welcome, And thanks for stopping by :)
  10. jigar doshi says:
those were some great tips. i just created a facebook page for my blog and i am sure when i implement these, they would be very helpful. thank you :)
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
You so welcome ! Glad you enjoyed them Jigar :D
  11. Aritra Roy says:
I really didn't knew these reasons, form next time i would keep all these points in my mind and make my Facebook page more and more successful...
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Great to hear that! Thanks for the comment, Aritra.
  12. greg ascentive says:
Well this was certainly a provocative article, 56 replies! >>>Your page always (and I mean, ALWAYS!) talks about how you generate a million dollars, how you have so many twitter followers or how you have thousands and thousands of subscribers. WOW, let me tell you if I had even one Facebook friend like this they'd be defriended immediately! Or at the very least "hidden" from my news feed. Same goes for Twitters I'm following.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
lol^^ It is annoying to see a person like this :D thanks a lot Greg for the comment.
  13. Latief says:
I'm not a fan page fan :D Is it important to have a fan page Faissal? I heard that FB will charge for fan page in the future, is that just a rumor?
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
      * Is it important to have a fan page Faissal? - It's important and not at the same time. There should be a reason for the fan page! you don't need to open a fan page without knowing why?! Do you want traffic? do you have a product that you want to promote through facebook? do you want to engage your followers or readers or even keep in touch with them? then go ahead a get your fan page now!! * I heard that FB will charge for fan page in the future, is that just a rumor? - This is totally untrue! if this will happen I'll pay yours ;) thanks for the questions! enjoyed answering them Latief.
      • Latief says:
I have my own fan page but I still wondering how to optimize the fan page as you said, for engage with my readers or selling a product. Hope you like to write about that one day Faissal. Thanks for the answers, enjoying reading your answers ;)
        • Faissal Alhaithami says:
I'll simply recommend you, my free 52 pages facebook marketing secrets guide mentioned at the end of the post! hope you'll like it.
  14. Abby says:
Good that almost all of FB fan pages I liked do regular updates (not the spammer type though!) and respond to fan queries. Although I have one that I'd like to "un-fan" just because I felt like it (if there's such a reason) but I've never got around to doing it. But overall, good thing this isn't a problem for. But don't get me started with personal accounts...
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
glad to hear that you don't have such a problem with the pages you liked! Thanks for the comments.
  15. Mavis Nong says:
Hi Faissal, This is great advice you're sharing here. It's all about managing our pages properly so we don't annoy our fans. Thanks for sharing. Mavis
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
yep they liked our pages! so we need to take care of them :) thanks!
  16. Jane says:
I usually find it annoying when someone's page is giving out too much updates. Even with an RSS reader too many annoys. I don't like such FB pages.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
yeah! some page owners thought that when they linked their pages with their RSS feed, twitter or other apps! they will get more traffic or more engagement! but this is totally wrong! thanks Jane for the comment!
  17. Marco says:
The points stated here are definitely correct. I would definitely dislike those facebook page. At least people who own those pages will be aware of these things, hence will do something about it. It also serves as a guide for those who are planning to create a facebook page.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Great Marco! thanks for the comment.
  18. Marie says:
Thank you for this clear, helpful article. Sometimes we lose sight of a tool's utility. I also found it amusing how you dislike inactive pages as well as overly-active pages. I guess if corporations are legal entities, it makes sense for them to have personalities and socialize to share it.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Actually we need to post often but not too often, lol^^ thanks for the comment!
  19. Pippa says:
In the past I did "like" pages jsut because they liked mine but there's only so many jewelry, make up, kids clothing pages etc you can stand to see in your newsfeed. Now days I check a page out, looking for things like what they post, how often, is it something i am interested etc. There are still a few companies who's posts i tend to glance over rather than read, but if this happens too much and I get bored then they get the elbow too. Some of the networking pages encourage a like me I'll like you back mentallity, there is no benefit unless you provide a service or goods that people are interested in, in which case they should "like" your page because of their interest not just as repayment.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
yeah I agree with you! we have to like a page because we are interesting in something there! not because they have liked mine!! facebook pages is not twitter :) thanks for your comment.
  20. Ryan Biddulph says:
Hi Faissal, Excellent points here. #1 and #4 work hand in hand. Share knowledge - or how you can help others to become successful in your niche - to become popular. More sharing, more likes. More pushing products, less likes. A self-promoter who only pushes products pushes people away. From my experience, the more freely you give the more fans you will receive. Don't flood the stream but DO NOT be afraid to update frequently. I see too many Page owners holding back, posting 1 time a day or every few days for fear of spamming. If people can't appreciate value-packed posts delivered on a consistent basis, they aren't my fans, and if you do things from a place of fear - fear of spamming - the results you get will be muted. Never used fear as a motivator, ever...at least if you want to be wildly successful. Thanks for sharing your insight! RB
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Ryan, nothing to say but thumb up for your great comment :D
  21. Saugat Adhikari says:
Once should consider several factor while managing Facebook pages. I am neglecting number 3 point myself. I know its a bit disappointing to reject your readers but sometimes there is huge amount of question that the owner barely can answer.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
I talked about the is a previous comment! Copy and paste it for you here " actually there is a different between a page like coca-cola which it gets huge respond with each update that they can’t reply to all comments!! In other side, pages which get “no respond” and when we you ask them anything they simply don’t respond.. I see that there is no reason for the fan page hehehe :D " thanks for the comment!
  22. John Garrett says:
Hey Faissal, I agree with all this, no doubt! When it looks like no one's minding the store or there's like 50 rapid fire posts you get really turned off and either hide or unlike the page. I definitely want to spruce up my page and make it really engaging for people, so I've already hopped over to like your page and pick up your free FB marketing guide. Looking forward to keeping up with you on your page!
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
that's awesome John! You will enjoy my free guide! and if you need any help don't hesitate to contact with me through my blog or even my facebook page :)
  23. Cindy says:
great post Hesham as I run a couple of fb fan pages. There are times when I sneak in occasional random stuff on the pages and be comfortable with my fans. But I dont update that fast either because not all updates can be seen in the news feed if I do that. Thanks for the great share. :)
    • Hesham says:
Hi Cindy, we need to thank Faissal , the author of the post, this is a multi-authors blog, remember? :)
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Hi Cindy, There is something called Facebook edgerank. You actually will need to build your edgerank with each fan of your fans base. If you please may let me know how many fans you have ? as the more fans you have the more visibility you'll get! this is a big topic but if you want to know more about it! go and visit the link below my comment! I have written an article that discusses everything about facebook algorithm. thanks for the comment.
  24. Harleena Singh says:
HI Faissal, Great post! These are very valid points you put up- and this is exactly what a few people are doing! A Facebook fan page is after all to connect with people and give to your readers more than just about yourself, or about promoting yourself. I somehow cannot relate to pages where things or comments are always automated - making the page very impersonal! Thanks for sharing :)
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Yeah that why facebook gives rank for automated posts less than the manual updates!! it's awesome how facebook algorithm works. There is something called facebook EdgeRank, that each update has an edgerank. if you want to know more about that give a visit to the link below my comment. thanks for your comment.
  25. Holly Jahangiri says:
Interesting. I usually don't "Like" a page unless I know the person who set it up, have read a page or two of posts to see if they're at all interesting to me, and feel compelled to comment on something there (is there really any other reason to "Like" a page? Do it as a favor or because you want to join in a conversation there?)
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
wow! I totally agree with you! I like a page because I'm interesting in that person, blog or company and I want to stay in touch with them and get their latest updates through facebook! that's why we should like any page we see while we are browsing around ;) thanks for your comment love it!
  26. Ming Jong Tey says:
Hey Faissal, Facebook is a social network so the fanpage owner must tackle from a social point of view to achieve the best results. Too much or too little (or none) wall updates can greatly affect the fans! I think that the fanpage owner must interaction with his fans especially when they are asking a question. Otherwise, that really defeat the purpose to have a fanpage... Cheers, Ming
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
I agree with you ! there is no purpose for the fan page if you don't give more than take! it's like ( give + give +give+ give = take ) ^^ thanks for the comment/
  27. Emily Thorne says:
As a new blogger, I really enjoy posts like this that give solid advice as well as a method to measure the effectiveness of my efforts. Thanks for a great post!
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Emily, it's my pleasure .. and as a blogger comments like yours are the best motivators ;)
  28. Ileane says:
Faissal, I agree with your points here. It seems that some people feel that they must put up a page on Facebook no matter what. Even if they don't have time to maintain it. It's really pretty sad that they are hurting themselves more than they are helping. Thanks for sharing your views here.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Ms. Ileane I agree with you as they're really losing more than winning. thanks for your comment and nice to see you here :)
  29. Justin says:
I have to agree here. I don't like it when bloggers are too big for their britches to respond back. If you are that busy making money than hire someone to connect to your audience for you.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Awesome comment Justin :) thanks alot and nice to see your comment here and in my blog ;)
  30. Adam says:
Nice list. I personally won't like a Facebook page (brand or individual) if I see that they don't respond to comments/questions from fans. No need to "unlike" if I never liked it in the first place!
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Adam, actually there is a different between a page like coca-cola which it gets huge respond with each update that they can't reply to all comments!! In other side, pages which gets "no respond" and when we you ask them anything they simply don't respond.. I see that there is no reason for the fan page hehehe :D thanks Adam for the comment.
  31. Dave Lucas says:
Sometimes it seems the harder we tweak things like Facebook and twitter, the more we alienate people who might otherwise follow us! You can't please everybody - so you just have to learn to please yourself! blog On!
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Dave, in fact, there is huge different between facebook pages and twitter! thanks!
  32. theComplex says:
I also unlike a page when they post 5 updates from TWITTER at once. It's infuriating.
    • Hesham says:
We also remove credits from comments when they use their website name instead of their NAME!
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
To be honest I hate that too!! I did dislike a page which automates it updates from twitter to Facebook ! which was really annoying!
      • theComplex says:
Something about seeing hashtags and links all over Facebook irks the hell out of me especially when spammed with it.
        • Faissal Alhaithami says:
You are so right :D I feel like (WHERE IS ME), is this facebook or twitter!!! lol^^
  33. Ben says:
What about if the only content on the page is automated, i.e. latest blog posts? I see a lot of fan pages that syndicate their latest blog posts, but don't do much more. I'm not keen on automated content being the only thing that's posted, but for some people, it can be a convenient way to keep up with the blog - more convenient than a feed reader. (perhaps they check Facebook more often than a feed reader)
    • Michael Aulia says:
I have a question about this too. I think the best way to do this is to post your posts but don't automate them. Then, add 1 or 2 of your own sentence about the post. This keeps the automation a bit off and engage the readers a bit. Though, it means more things to do as a blogger :(
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Hi Ben and Michael. Actually the topic you are talking about is not belong to this post topic! but I'll keep this short as there is really a lot to explain ( Facebook prefer manual submission than automated submission through apps.) I have written an article that talks about Facebook algorithm and how it works and what we should do about it. It's a guide for facebook SEO or news feed optimization. click the link below to read it and you'll understand everything about this. http://www.fansbridge.com/facebook-seo-nfo/
  34. Karla Campos says:
Today I am disliking someone's page because the person is misleading and tells lies, seriously I am not supporting that.... Everything else may be annoying but lies and false information are not getting my support : /
    • icechen1 says:
Ugh, this has to be the worst of worst that you can do. Drives readers away like swarms.
      • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Yep! there is nothing that can be worst than that!
    • Michael Aulia says:
Wow, never encounter this problem before. Unlike imminent :) Though maybe a good idea to know more about the page before liking it at the first place? heh heh
      • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Hi Michael, that's what should happened before liking a page. Literally, we don't just like any page. for me I like pages for blogs, people, brands, companies that I know and I want to hear from them more and connect with them through facebook. thanks for your comment.
    • Hesham says:
I hope it is not our page :)
      • Faissal Alhaithami says:
lol^^ I don't think it is your page ! I guess you are doing fine with your page in term of sharing posts and knowledge with your fans. Good luck.
    • Faissal Alhaithami says:
Karla, I agree with you! I'll immediately dislike any page which tells lies too! I should added this point with the rest ;) thanks for sharing this with us!
