Blogging is All About Being Passionate

July 26, 2010 - Last Modified: July 26, 2010 by Jakes

Blogging Passionate

Have you ever visited the wiki page about Blog. It says that as of December 2007 ( almost three years ago ), blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112,000,000 blogs. Yup, you read the figure right. Of these, only some thousands turned to be successful ones. And the rest, being failures, which even include blogs that have been permanently shut down. Have you ever wondered why? Its because most bloggers lacked passion towards blogging.

Most of the bloggers had the money motive when they say ‘Blogging has been a mere hobby for them’ and they end up in quitting blogging in two month or so. Such people failed to recognize that the essence of blogging is passion. I believe when these people recognize what blogging is really and the various ingredients that constitue blogging , they would definitely generate a passion towards blogging and ultimately they would have to develop this very passion.

Blogging is a Learning Experience

Practice makes a man perfect. Its true in blogging arena too. Each blogging post is an experience, an experience to grow, learn and advance along the way to the glory awaited in blogsphere. If you are a newbie in blogging, it is advised that at-least do a post in a week. It will help you in evolving your writing style, improves your language. Finally it will help in developing strategies for increasing traffic and learning some coding.

Blogging is an Interaction

Large number of comments is certainly an indication of a good blog. But getting comments (not the short-drive by comments) is often a hard task. Once a blog earns some recognition, comments will stream in. This stream can often be alive if you have the mind to reply to those. While replying to your commenter, you should pay due respect to them as they spend their valuable time reading your post. Some comments can even help in rectifying your blog.

Blogging is Designing

Of course, all of us want eye-catching,yet simple, looks for our blog. So when you take up blogging, you can spend a few time in designing and a bit of coding. Try out various plugins, various themes, various widgets and so on. And, that means ‘Blogging is growing in technical knowledge‘ . ( My advice is that it is better to stick onto a single theme and you could try modifying it)

Blogging is Competition

Like in any other field, there are these Big guys and Small guys. Often the small guys, including me, are stunned in front of these Big blogs. Don’t just leave blogging seeing these blog giants. Remember these Big guys were once Small guys and its through persistence and hard work they attained those positions. And, remember don’t ever be too competitive. Over competition drains the beauty of the blogging art.

Blogging is Earning Money

Ultimately, blogging is a means to earning profit. But one should never be over concerned about this. It will only result in draining out the purity factor of the blog. We should always ensure that ad content displayed never over shadows the blog content. Novice ones should be just passionate while experienced ones can blog for passion and profit.

WRAP UP

To conclude, if you realize what blogging truly is ,then you will turn passionate about it and then will begin to see ‘Blogging as fun‘. Never lose passion in your blogging career and with persistence you can surely make your  blog a huge success. In nut shell, passion is the key to blogging.

PS: This is my first entry as a Guest post. As a novice, I need your valuable comments so that I can improve myself as a blogger.

I'd say passion plays a large part but also curiosity. You can be passionate about a subject but then not really want to dig deeper because you're so passionate about just the one subject. With curiosity you're willing to go further down the rabbit hole and expand :P
  6. Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
To be honest I think passion is the most important thing when it comes to blogging. Without passion you won't go anywhere or you simply will stop blogging. I believe that you can also see passion on this blog. Another thing is that you shouldn't start monetizing your blog from the beginning. First build a successful blog and then monetize it and not the other way around. Nice article!
    • Jakes says:
Hi Julius, Well am honored to get such a comment from an established blogger. Thanks a lot. What else, you have a good point about monetizing the blog. I haven't started monetizing my blog as I have just begun my blog. Jakes
    • chandan says:
Exactly I also believe that for blogging passion is very much important. People who specially blog for money they leave very soon, due to hard work on blogging. One of the biggest problem for blogging to update blog frequently by publishing fresh content, which is very time consuming.
  7. Laura Davis says:
Sometimes it really is hard to stay motivated with blogging, especially when you aren't seeing any return on your investment (i.e. comments). You definitely have to be passionate to get through that and keep on trucking!
    • Jakes says:
Hi Laura, Thanks for reading and the comment is totally cool. And, you have a nice point there. Yup, passion can help in continuing your blog journey ;)
  8. ashok says:
Hmm. I agree that passion is central, and I do like how you mention "competition" in the body of your post. But I think people give up blogging for a variety of reasons - it really takes a near full-time commitment to do well, and you really need others to help you out. Darren Rowse mentioned once that he set a time limit for his blog to become profitable: the competition has only increased since that time, and a very prominent blogger once wrote me, expressing wonder at how difficult it was to get an audience now than in the early days. So I'm wondering at what point passion is tempered by reason, and one has to make a decision about whether continuing to blog is feasible or not. I think one does get an audience, and one shouldn't take them for granted, and work hard for their benefit. But that makes me wonder about whose passion blogging really is.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Ashok, I too was only trying to tell passion is the central thing. And, I believe that a little competition can encourage some guys (not all). Of-course one need to dedicate much of his time for blogging especially when he need to maintain the hard-earned success.
    • Tia Peterson says:
Ashok makes such an important point here. I will add to it that I believe that passion must be fueled, otherwise it can dry up. The fueling usually comes from minor successes and victories. When those aren't realized, it can become difficult to keep the passion alive. That said, even with only a little passion, a blog can actually survive with persistence, patience and strategy, but I think it's way harder! The passion comes from the readers - if you are providing solid content that they need, it will be consumed and acted upon. Many niche blogs solely intended to make money succeed and then get sold, likely to someone with some passion! Great first guest post. Very thought provoking.
  9. Sandeep says:
Great one Jakes!! Yes, it's the dedication and hard-work that takes any one to the next level. One needs to have that dedication and passion towards blogging if he/she really wants to succeed. Be helpful to your readers and interact with them regularly.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Sandeep, Be passionate and success will follow you. That's what I always say. Of-course, mere passion will not do. One should hard work for being successful. And, that's what I call the actual passion. I mean if someone have the real passion for something he will hard work for it until he earn his goal. Thanks a lot for the comment
  10. Shaukat Ameen says:
Nice points Jakes. It's your passion that takes you to the next level. This is why experienced marketers tell newbies to work on a product they are passionate about. Well, the same, indeed, goes for blogging, otherwise you will fade into oblivion very soon.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Shaukat, Well you said it right and you are 100% correct. Passion should be in each work. Passion make works easy and enjoyable. Thanks for stepping by and for the comment too. ;)
  11. Cindy says:
great article, Jake. Have you tried listening to good music before writing or working on anything? It has a certain 'feel good' effect that brings out the passion and motivation in you. Its hard to focus on competition when you write. I like to write and comment because I like giving opinions on a lot of things whether its in or out of my niche. I was one hell of a competitor in the old days when I was designing, but those days are over now :) I just want to blog hop, get to know everyone and let everyone know what I think. I got addicted to blogging after making a couple of posts. Joining a blogging community triples your addiction which became a serious and fun hobby for me.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Cindy, Thanks for the comment. It seems like hearing music before writing can relive the pressure. That's a nice tip and will definitely try it out. And, am trying out joining blog communities to enhance passion. This very post has been part of that intention of joining and interacting in the blog-o-sphere.
  12. Sourav says:
Great post Jakes .. since you have included that Blogging is Competition, I would also like to include that Blogging is Building Relationships. In theory, we are competing with one another, but in reality we are actually building relationships. Isn't it so? Aaron has added a nice point. Being addicted to some level will keep the passion going for a long time.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Sourav, Thanks buddy. And, you are about the importance of building relationships. When I wrote this post, I thought about including the point - 'Blogging is Building relationships'. But as I had already included the point - 'Blogging is interaction', I purposely sacrificed the point about building relationship. Comments have always been a source of encouragement. So I highly appreciate it.
      • Jakes says:
Oopz.. I missed out the word 'right'.. I meant you are right about the importance of building relationships.
  13. Colleen says:
Very good Jakes. I think having a unique perspective, or niche, can be added to your list. Often times, the blogger with a different outlook on things can create a following.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Colleen, First of all thanks for reading this post and for the comment. Having a niche blog always have the advantage. When we blog about the general or the usual things, the competition is more. In such cases, Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest is highly applicable. But if you are blogging for just the passion, you needn't bother about such competitions and all. But certainly you need to be persistent.
      • Colleen says:
I see your point Jakes, however, there are a lot of athletes that have passion but never make it to the big leagues. Channeling passion into a niche is critical, in my humble opinion.
        • Jakes says:
Hi, That was a nice example. What I meant to say is passion coupled with persistence and hard work in the key to success. Of course, one needs to decide on what he/she should specialize on because concentrating on a particular thing is always better than trying out different things.
  14. Robert says:
You need to have passion when blogging, if you try and blog about something you dont have a passion for, you will find that fairly soon you run out of things to write about, and you lose your motivation That's why it's so important to include your niche carefully
    • Jakes says:
Hi Robert, Passion is needed in everything. Passion is the key to success. And, you are right about running out of content when one is not passionate about blogging. I myself have been a victim of it. And, thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it Jakes
  15. Aaron says:
Good post Jakes and congrats on your first guest post. I'd also add to that list that Blogging is an Addiction (or should be). Most of the successful bloggers spend huge amounts of time on their posts and networking with other bloggers, and that is one of the reason they have been so successful.
    • Jakes says:
Hi Aaron, Yes, for most of the successful bloggers, blogging has been an addiction. But any addiction should have some limit. Same is with blogging too. As for me I am a sort of Internet addict and my father have been always complaining about it. If blogging is some hobby or a part-time job don't get over addicted to it. That's what I believe. And, thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it.
