6 Article Writing Secrets You Must Master To Have Your Blog Read ALWAYS!

February 20, 2011 - Last Modified: January 6, 2012 by Chadrack Irobogo

Article Writing Secrets

Ok, I must admit it. The title is a little too long for my liking but, I believe it does achieve its purpose all the same. However, if you really want something short then take a look at the task bar! 🙂

Now, as a blogger, one thing I take very seriously is writing my blog articles. Of course, I don’t dread writing. However, I don’t write just because I MUST write. This is why competing with those who believe that you need to publish at least an article a day on your blog is out of the question for me.

Understanding that my blog readers deserve the very best, I always aim to give the right info and impart the right knowledge in my articles. I don’t know about you, but for me, reading an article that is boring and bland is BIG WORK!

So the question is, how do you write your blog articles so that they are read?

The simple answer is, make them good!

But you’ll agree with me that as much as that sounds really simple, the truth is, making a good article is not only strenuous but tasking!

You can easily overcome this if you’re writing on something you know about. That’s why as a blogger, you should be knowledgeable about your target topic or theme. If this is the case, when you write about a topic you won’t have a hard time because you already know what it is and what it’s about. It’s just a matter of making your articles creative and interesting.

That being said, I want to present you with some tested and proven article writing secrets that will help you in writing articles that are fun and profitable for you and your blog.

How To Write Readable And Interesting Articles

1. Write In Short Paragraphs

One simple way of getting your blog readers’ attention quickly is with the use of short paragraphs. Lengthy paragraphs only make your words jumbled in the mind of the reader. Simply looking at your blog page can get quite confusing and too much of a hard work to read. When this happens, the reader will quickly disregard your article and move on. Plan out your articles and make the paragraphs short. They could be a single sentence or even a single word!

2. Number And Fire Your Points With Bullets!

Of course, you can see a good example of this right here! I simply love using numbers in most of my articles. When you need to stress any point, numbers and bullets can quickly make the point easy to remember and digest. As each point, tip, guide, or method is started with a bullet or point, readers will easily follow your flow of thought.

3. Use Sub-headings

This is one of the ways you can easily sub-divide your paragraphs on the page. For example, if you want to break each point into sections but still want each to be incorporated into the article, using sub-headings will achieve this. It also makes it easier for the reader to move on from one point to another. The transition will be smooth and easy. Doing this, will ensure that you do not lose your reader’s attention as well as the point and direction to where the article is pointing.

4. Pull In Your Reader Using A Good Attention-Grabbing Title Or Header

Your first duty of making sure that your articles are read is getting the attention of your blog readers. For example, when you arrive on the home page of the Web Income Journal, you’re presented with the excerpts of recent articles. In such a situation, how do you choose which article to read from the various options on the home page? You may want to follow the crowd and click on one of the popular articles. But most times than not, you’re going to scan the post titles and pick the one that piques your interest!

That is the power of using attention-grabbing titles. Once you can entice a person’s curiosity with your blog titles, you’re halfway to getting that person to read your article.

Doing this is not really difficult. You can simply use statements and questions to achieve this. Craft your statements and question using the keywords they are searching for. Provide titles or headers that describe your article content but are short and concise. Your article titles should be able to reach out to your blog reader’s emotions and make him/her interested.

5. Keep Your Readers Interested, From Start To Finish!

Great writers have a way of getting their readers involved. You should be able to adopt this in your article writing. From the very opening paragraph of your article, use real life situations that the reader can actually identify with. Use good descriptions and metaphors to drive home your point. Using examples with graphic metaphors and similes would make it easy for your readers to imagine what you are talking about, thus making the experience pleasurable and enjoyable for them.

6. Utilize Fact & Figures And Not Just Ordinary Statements

Have you noticed that there are a million voices clamoring for your readers’ attention? How then can you stand out of the crowd? Simple – put authority into your voice!  A simple way of doing this is by the use of facts and figures in your article. These will heighten the voice of authority in your article. By presenting facts built around figures, you’ll be able to grab the attention of your readers and create an indelible impression on them. So, don’t just make general statements. Use figures instead.

It’s over to you. As a blogger, have you been using these strategies in writing your articles? Is there something I’ve left out which you think should be added? Let’s hear your voice through your comments below.

6th point is really nice using sub heading are very interesting to read by visitor.thank you nice tip
    • Chadrack says:
Hi sai krishna, Thanks for your comment. Breaking up an article using sub headings is a powerful way of making the article more readable. In a world when most readers only scan, the subheadings play a very important role.
  2. David Marks says:
when writing an article one should know more about the topic in order to write or create a high quality article, we all know that article is one of the best way to drive traffic to sites, not only traffic it also drives money straight to you.
  3. TJ McDowell says:
Facts and figures definitely establishes credibility as long as they're relevant. I feel like a lot of the articles written on blogs are just off the cuff. Having statistics moves you out of the realm of amateur bloggers quickly if used the right way.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Got it right on the point there! Fact and figures. Most times before writing any piece I always do a lot of research to verify what I want to write about. It's definitely a big blow to your reputation to put something down for the whole world to read and then the next minute you discover it's far from the reality. Thanks for a beneficial comment TJ!
  4. Alex says:
Hi Chadrack. Great advices! First of all, I think every blogger should start a blog only if he knows what he is talking about. If someone wants to start a blog about, lets say how to make money online, then they should know how to do it and they should have earned money online themselves before starting to teach others. Secondly, titles are great if used correctly! You need to first attract the visitor to your website, to intrigue him enough to click your link and after that you have the task to keep him on your page. Great tips, I think every blogger should know them and many of them do!
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Thanks Alex for the input. Really trying to blog about a topic you know nothing, or just a little about, will be a hard nut to crack! Of course you may devout some time to study what others are doing but you'll not be able to put in your own personality which very important.
  5. The Bad Blogger says:
Nice and very good points on writing good content, well... most probably you can add one more which is "writing style" what I mean is... the way you format the writing... I bet you have read my blog too... and you can see the way I format my writing is like a newsletter or sort of like a sales page... which to my amazed... I haven't seen anyone write that kind of format before... and there is another style of writing which I name it "email style" in case you might not know...email style tends to be one sentence and then break ever sentence just like paragraph... Google this guy - 'ben settle" and go to his blog and see how he write his post... is simple and easy to read... that is why I'm one of his loyal readers.... Again there is another style by Frank Kern which you can go to his Mass Control blog to see how he writes it... I call it the "Letter style".... hopes this helps you and other commentator to realize the importance of style writing that make each blogger unique in a way or two....
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
These are really good references that needs checking out. Will definitely want to see what the letter style is about. Never heard of that before. And about your kind of writing I must say you have a unique of way of breaking up your articles. Some times I wonder if you write with a html editor and then copy to your blog. Most of the formatting you do truly have a way of pulling you in until you read to the end. All in all, I think it's about developing a personal writing style. Thanks for joining in the discussion.
      • The Bad Blogger says:
Not a problem at all, anyway.. ya it's about personal writing, but isn't personal writing better then corporate writing... I mean we are bloggers... right? And thanks for sharing yo ur awesome guest post...
  6. Murlu says:
The facts and figures is a big one, for example: Instead of saying: There are millions of websites on the web today. It sounds way better to say: There are 63,103,302 websites on the web today. (Made up number) But the point is that it makes you go WOW! It's the little things that engage the users that you may not think of during the first pass in your content which can make all the difference.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Rightly said Murlu, writing in general terms only shows you don't know what you're talking about. But when you put in the figures you recieve the nod and like you said it could just make your readers go WOW!
  7. Mavis Nong says:
Hi Chadrack, Great tips indeed for spicing up for your content so it's appealing to the eye. I would also add formatting - it helps to break the plain text. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Mavis
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Yes Mavis, that's what breaking up your article into paragraphs and using numbers does to the article. Formatting not only help make the article more appealing but also makes it much easier to read. Thanks for the comment.
  8. Tanya says:
Very good tips, Thanks! I will try out your tips and see if I get more readers.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Hi Tanya, I hope you do, really. And when that happens remember to share your experience with us all! :)
  9. Wasim Ismail says:
Useful tips, articles should look appealing for your readers, so that they stay interested, also make use of good images, and graphs, so it puts some colour in and excitement to the text.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Wasim, I must say one thing most of the commentators agree on is the use of images and graphics. Because of load time I've always been wary of using too many images but I think there is an agreement here about their use. That shows it's something one have to look into again. Thanks for the comment.
  10. Andreas says:
I like creative article titles that create controversy and just make people curious to click on and read the whole article. Also articles should not be too long so that they do not bore the reader, if your article is 1000+ words, chances are that you could make 2 articles out of it.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Andreas, I've found this type of headlines to really be effective. I've used them a few times. The only thing is be careful to not over do it. And no matter how controversial your headline may be ensure that your article live up to the expectation of your readers. Thanks for joining the discussion.
  11. bryan says:
Chadrack, I totally agree with you about having a good headline. I can't emphasize enough to have a punchy and catchy headline. I'm still trying to master the art of writing a good headline. You also mention write with authority. I think writing with authority comes with time. It also helps to write in the active form. It definitely helps with engaging your readers.
    • Chadrack says:
Yes, writing with authority comes with time. However, the biggest secret to writing authoritatively is being truthful and sincere. You may master some hard sell tactics and put them into your writing but when you're making up figures and facts, it simply comes through one way or the other and when that happens your readers will be turned off. You're quite right about writing in the active voice as this puts more power into your words.
  12. Mahfuz says:
Nice article indeed. Of all these i like the idea of numbering the points. It is really important to highlight the main points. Besides i think using more high quality images can easily draw the attention of the visitors.
  13. Robert Dempsey says:
Definitely great points Chadrack. I would add always remaining true to yourself and your style. I've read many posts on making articles great, and this one is different because you added your personality and spin on it. That can go a long way in a sea of content.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Oh thank you for the good words there Robert, I've discovered I write much better when I write as if I'm on my feet and talking! I think that way I'm more able to pass across my points.
  14. Ajay says:
A well formatted article with proper headings and bullet points is always a good article... coz it gives the reader a good overview of what is to come... and you pointed out correctly that writing a good post is strenuous... you have to find a short and effective way to write each and every sentence of it....
    • Ajay says:
Hi Hesham Thank you so much for reverting to my query... You really took the time out of your busy schedule to fix it... I really appreciate it... Keep up the good work and those good posts coming..:)
  15. Vijayraj Reddy says:
if there are any tips post, i prefer to add Points instead of paragraph as the readers will find it easy to understand...
  16. Priya says:
Hi Chadrack, Very essential tips and you need to make your blog attractive too, you must have heard first impression is last impression.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
That's simply the truth, Priya. Pushing a well written piece of article into crumpy designed blog is a wasted piece. Your blog's appearance will tell how professional you're. It's therefore a good thing to put all the pieces together for a great result. Thanks for the comment.
  17. Khalid Hosein says:
Excellent article Chadrack! I'd like to add one additional point which is not exactly writing-related, but pulls readers in all the same: add an eye-catching image that is related to the post. Make sure it's up top. And if the article is long, throw in some more photos along the way. Cheers!
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Hi Khalid, you're just in agreement with Lennart. Glad to know you for this to be excellent! Thanks.
  18. Lennart Heleander says:
Hi Chadrack, Use simple diagrams, well illustrated photos are also great help to create good blog articles.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
I quite agree with you Lennart. Good graphics and photos helps in better understanding the message of the article especially if it's a tutorial.
  19. AJ says:
Nice points. One of the things that really bugs me is when I arrive at a post and all i see is one GIANT paragraph, there is no way I am going to read that. Short paragraph and clear headings is definitely one of the most important things (as you mention). Another thing I would add, is to create good looking email newsletters that captivate your readers and makes them want to come to your site and read more. Thanks for sharing Chadrack!
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Aj, you have a point there. That's one good way of maximizing your email list, if you have one. However understand that if your article fall in the areas discussed even when your email newsletter pulls them in, a good number of them will click away without reading. Thanks for joining the discussion.
  20. Richard says:
The writing style for a blog is much different than that of a book or traditional article. Your writing style on a blog must be scannable. That's why it's so important to break up paragraphs and have headings and subheadings to help the readers scan your blog post.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Rightly said Richard, many a time when I come across a blog post that run into thousands of words without the right formating, I simply navigate somewhere else. I think we need to understand the way people read articles online if we want to package a readable post. Thanks for the comment.
  21. talia says:
These are great tips. Before when I felt obligated to write on my blog everyday I would get frazzled from the pressure causing my frustration to come out thru my articles but now that I have decided it's ok if one day I don't have anything to post I'm writing a hell of a lot more and I'm getting more readers. Go figure.
    • Chadrack Irobogo says:
Talia, your point is very clear. I've discovered that if you truly want to write good content for your blog then there is the need to space out your posting schedules. That way, you will be able to have time to research and package your articles. Besides, posting too frequently can lead to many of your content being pushed out of sight without achieving much except your blog is a busy one traffic-wise.
