YouTube New Look: What You Think?

December 1, 2011 - Last Modified: December 1, 2011 by Hesham Zebida 3,083

YouTube New Look

Today, Google announced the YouTube new look on their official blog, really interesting stuff going on, and Google is keeping us busy trying to follow their updates, enhancments, new designs, features, etc.. you know, I’am tired of Google, but what to do?! They just do cool stuff, and their development team are freaking active!

YouTube New Look

Google says:

Ready to get started? Your new YouTube is already shipped and waiting for you at YouTube.com, and like every new toy, we included an (instruction manual) (and video) to help.

The only thing is the instruction manual page is simply do NOT exists, and the link is broken! that page can not be found! (source: The YouTube new look )

Anyways, at least we can watch the video:

What I Like and Hate about Google

What I like about Google is they always unveiled an experimental designs and ask users about their opinions. Based on users feedback, they tweak, enhance, improve their overall designs! (but they never change it or take off the ugly parts of it)..

There is always something wrong!

While Google seems to be listening to its users, nothing really change! (or at least this is how I feel about it)! Most of the times, they are just getting feedback, but nothing really happen!

I understand that part of this because you can not satisfy everyone, but is Google satisfying the majority of its users?

YouTube New Look: Like it or Dislike it?

Many people really hate the Gmail new look, but they can not do anything about it, but what about the YouTube new look?

YouTube decides your new destination of discovering new videos and channels!

Have you discovered the new features yet?

Are you liking it?

Look like my pet monkey designed the new site, or is it a retro look. Anyway it takes me back to the old days , oh well looks like we are stuck with it. At least Ive had to go search the net for a better site and have found some interesting ones on YAHOO, ha ha. E T

i hate the new look for my youtube channel. i want to be able to watch my favorites on my channel. i like my channel and my background the way they are and i don't see why youtube is forcing people to change to the new look in march. ive been using youtube for almost 2 years and i really like it, just not the new version. i cant find anything on the new look. its so frustrating

I hate the new design! I'm not only a fan of familiarity, but of my channel. It's nothing special, I guess, but it was practical and efficient. I could easily access my favorites, which I do every day, and customize the colors to suit me. Mostly I'm annoyed that I have to go through a few extra steps to get to my favorites, and I'm especially annoyed that this is being forced onto YouTubers as of March. Other things that bother me? One, it autoplays the next video in your favorites, which I don't like. Two, when you click something on your favorites, it doesn't play in the same window. It changes it to the regular window you'd get from clicking a link out of a YouTube search. I've given up on sites in the past that I used daily, but I'd hoped I'd never have to give up YouTube because I'd had an account there for four years and used it every day for my favorite music and videos. Still, I liked the way the site was when I joined, and this is the second major change they've made. The first I could accept, sort of, even though I didn't have as much on there as I do now. But I'm getting tired of the changes. Life itself changes too much; I thought I could at least keep some small, simple bit of familiar comfort in the form of my favorites, etc. on the site. YouTube, can't you make the "upgrades" (I think it's a downgrade, personally; this version seems pretty amateur and unlikable) a choice? I get that it's a big site, but can you at least keep a current version as an option for people like me who are really stubborn? A version from the old days would be nice, too, with the big yellow subscribe button, etc. YouTube's gone downhill and it's going fast. Bleh. The fact that this update is going to be forced on us is depressing me. I don't care if I seem dramatic; YouTube made itself an important part of the Internet and I made it a big part of my life. If YT wants to keep its users happy, it should change back. And then keep it that way.

Youtube design is nothing special as long as you can stream videos that's more than enough.
  5. Luiz says:
Of course I hated the new look!!!!! And I'm sure that all the users that really use their channels on Youtube hated it as well. Where are my Youtube friends??? Where is the button "add friend"? Where is the box with the subscribers? Where are the another users' comments on my channel??? They removed almost all options and miscellaneous... It seems that Youtube is going to bankrupt and created a leaned visual to hide it as long as the Google's Orkut. Do perhaps another online video-sharing community will replace Youtube soon???
  6. Alejandro says:
Ok first of all I hate the new look.. It remines me of MySpace look which is why I went to Facebook.. Secondly I can't even find the add friend button like seriously where did it go?? I demand the bottom. And the colors are no good either on my opinion but, they should at least give us the option to go back to the original settings don't you guys think do too??
  7. James says:
I think it's so ugly, from the beautiful white to grey background. Fail From the beautiful video player buttons to some "modern" grey. Fail Only thing that is great are user channels and new options. Success My honest opinion.
  8. Ivin says:
Hey Hesham. I'll tell you what, I found one way Google is useful, and that sercret I'll hold untill I do a guest post here. However, It's pretty damn difficult getting onto their front page. What I DO like about Google, is they make sure they have a slice of each pie. Youtube dominating the video sharing site niche, Google's search engine is still the measure, and with G+ now vying as a social media platform and the recent roll-out of business pages, they are playing the game pretty well. You know what I will buy? A freaking Google manual. Cause they're so hard to figure out and they're constantly changing. They'll make much more money if they charge $1 for a monthly sub and explain all their stuff properly. That module would work! Instead of screwing people on a constant basis. What do you think?
  9. yunita says:
i am female 33 yrs old. i like the new look. its refresh
  10. Gregory Ciotti says:
As somebody who relies on YouTube for a lot of traffic for one of my blogs, I don't really like it. The channels are my biggest problem, they are much harder to navigate, and the grey design makes links in the description less obvious (probably done on purpose, they don't want you leaving YouTube!) Overall though, it is much cleaner and more modern looking, so there's that I guess...
  11. Anon Guy says:
I've never really liked all of the extra junk that's added to most of the google stuff. So, I run a couple of addons in firefox (and chrome I think) called greasemonkey and adblocker plus. Grease monkey allows you to change the look of any page by javascript that runs after the page is loaded, and adblocker does as the name implies. So, if you're really really annoyed with youtube then please install these, find the right pre-built scripts for you at http://userscripts.org/ and take a chill out. The world will not end.
  12. Ribice says:
Not sure why many users dislike the new look. Personally I find it really astonishing. The black + gray design suits me much more than the light + gray one. The channels look much better.
  13. Apply says:
The new look is poo poo. It is my bad that I am quite orthodox and I do not like when something suddenly gets "fixed" which was not broken, but this not just the "omg something got changed, I feel so old" - thing. Now on the opening page tons of things are in my face I never wanted to use. Seriously: did you ever visited youtube to "add a channel"? That is the first button on the top left. Did you ever wanted to see your subscribed channels in a list? Well, maybe you did, I did not. What I want to see is their last activity grouped as it used to be. Most popular and the oter links on the left are stuff I do not care ("eat sh*t, millions of flies can not be wrong"). Suggested channels is actually a cool thing but I would not place that there. Scrolling is not fun. With the new fashion instead of the more-less useful start page you get a Facebook v2.0, where about 1/3rd of the page contains valueable data. That is poo poo. Bad design. Copycatted fail.
  14. Tina Clark says:
    This guy is a ripoff
  15. Mushfique says:
Since the new update, I am now more active in youtube than facebook . For some reason I really like the new look ! except for the part where we sometimes see ads popup at the right side of the video section. It just moves the video from the centre and makes it very uneasy to watch a particular video. Other than this, everything else seems to be completely fine!
  16. DiTesco says:
Hi Hesham. Can't say for now if I like or dislike t as I have just started playing with it recently and did not have enough time to really say what I think. Anyway, and like you said, they change, change and change.. and what else can we do but to "like it" :) Great vid BTW...
  17. salientfilm says:
actually it's quite lame. one of the nice aspects of the original layout was the suggested videos when you arrived at youtube.com. that is how i found a lot of videos in the first place. i don't need you to throw my subscriptions in my face, i know how to find them. click click boom. it feels like a bunch of suits locked themselves in a room with some programmers and said do this and do that, done!! aha almost like internet tv!! if anything, they should have just tweaked the old format, giving you an option to watch-say 3 minutes of ads once you sign in, and then never have to see anymore for at least an hour, or something like that. and probably give users the option to loop videos in their playlist (unless they just added that). there is nothing innovative about this. i feel like my dad or grandfather made this new format, straightforward without any creative thought. and also-it's very uninviting, there was something to the white space that felt open. did they even ask the users what they wanted? i swear they just sprung this on us--like bend over and take it!! WE ARE GOOGLE!! BOW DOWN! YOU HAVE NO CHOICE!! i should stop now, i forget they have my email address and password.
  18. Anil Agarwal says:
I really love the new layout. Specially the Video Manager and Analytics sections are much much improved.
  19. Mark says:
It's going to take some getting used to but over time I'm sure everyone will get used to it after they get the bugs worked out that is. That or I need to buy a faster PC.
  20. Raj says:
At the place where I am from, videos are still a premium. I currently have a 3GB download limit per month! So, I don't use Youtube much. I also feel its more of an entertainment than edutainment. If you have noticed in the video, they mention both facebook and G+ - That's what I like about google. They are pretty transparent and neutral.
  21. Nishadha says:
I do like the new look but I prefer if the suggested videos are shown first instead of my subscriptions videos. Couldn't find any place to change them either.
  22. Adrienne says:
Hey Hesham, Funny thing is that I just posted a video this morning and there was no new look. When I saw your post I was like what? Okay, so far it's not too terribly bad. I played around a little bit and I'm always going to find this type of thing confusing at first. I guess time will tell so the vote is still out right now. Thanks for sharing these changes though. I appreciate the tour. ~Adrienne

Hi Adrienne, Glad to hear your opinion, especially that you think it's not too terribly bad :) Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.
  23. Ileane says:
Hi Hesham, Google has me a little confused today with these new features that are only partially rolled out. I wrote about the new channel view and I found a couple of hacks to get to the new YouTube homepage view. But this video shows something totally different - go figure :) Oh well, at least we have the new YouTube Analytics now. Thanks for the heads up on this one.
    • Hesham Zebida says:
Great share, I've missed your post some how! I hope more people click on your CL link to learn more about the new YouTube! Thanks Ileane.
