WordPress and SEO: A Match Made In Heaven

August 24, 2012 - Last Modified: April 1, 2014 by Famous Bloggers Editor

WordPress SEO

With over 54 million WordPress sites now published on the internet many people are finding it easier than ever to get their content posted. With the proper SEO strategies you will begin to
find your traffic will increase and your outbound links sky rocket.

Google is constantly updating their algorithms and the spam bots are as diligent as ever.

Using the tips listed below you should be able to optimize your content and have your readers finding your site easier than ever before.

The Foundation

Using Google Analytics and getting started with your SEO strategies will help get your website and your business off on the right foot. By understanding how the SEO process works and the tools you can use to enact it, your goals will be reached and it will leave a nice clean design with easy to read articles. Using goals, like ranking to the first page will help you define what you are trying to achieve with your articles.

The higher you rank the more traffic you will receive and ultimately more money in your pocket.

Research is always important

You wouldn’t try writing a research paper on Charles Phillips, CEO at Infor without first searching around the internet and trying to find out who he is.

Knowing which keywords you are trying to target and then researching them will enable you to easily insert them in a more natural way.

Using keyword tools from Google will help you brainstorm for ideas. Finding keywords that don’t receive a lot of searches and that are not extremely competitive is what you should be searching for.

Some people prefer to do keyword searches on articles after they write them. Keep in mind though that you should be targeting keywords that do not have a lot of competition, and low search volumes. Also try to keep the keywords relevant to your industry, and always make sure they are in singular format not plural.

WordPress Plug-ins

There is a myriad of plug-ins and scripts that you can use for WordPress to help optimize your rankings and links. Using these tools you ensure that Google will index your articles and they will receive good rankings from the start. The fresher and better written your content the easier it will be to build authority and have other sites start linking to you.

Many plugins will help you set up custom Meta title and description tags. These will allow you to control what you do and don’t want to index, and create sitemaps. Other tools will allow you to manage your SEO strategies, while also performing keyword searches, tracking your online rankings, and performing backlink analyses.

Analysis

As mentioned before using Google’s Analytics software will really help you understand if your work is generating the traffic that you want. Maximizing and optimizing what you are doing is always the name of the game. Working smarter not harder helps give you the edge you need to become a serious player in the game.

Hi, Search Engine Optimization is very important if you wish to pull in webtraffic derived from the search engines. I run a weekly deals website and gaining new targeted customers is very important. Early on when I was new to the game, I tried outsourcing my search engine optimization efforts to companies which only accrued expense and actually had a negative impact on my website traffic. Be weary of companies claiming that they can improve how your website performs and always do your research. Ask specifically about previous results. Check alexa page rank values of the websites that they claimed to have worked on, check specific keywords in the search engines and see how those keywords rank in comparison to other websites who also have the same keywords. Thanks. Great article by the way.

I recommend you using Wordpress SEO themes and plugins to improve your SEO effect such as Genesis, Thesis, Wordpress SEO ... and most important is writing a awesome blog post then do link building :)

I recommend the Yoast SEO plug in for Wordpress. It makes it very simple to add important SEO elements to each page. Wordpress overall is a great tool, probably the best (and most user friendly) CMS out there.

Yes Wordpress and SEO are a match made in heaven but it is even better when you get the right theme. I have found that Thesis is one of the best for SEO along with the yoast wpseo plugin.

Although I make a point on writing to human reader, not search engines, SEO is a major part of my sites and search engines are my main source of traffic. It all comes down to knowing what keywords you can rank for and constructing a good site structure and post structure around them. Spend as much as you need to researching related keywords for each of your posts, There are many great keywords tools that can speed it up, but nothing beats common sense. Use SEO plugins to quickly determine your on site SEO Score before publishing ( but don't over do it! you'll get punished for doing so) Then use the same keywords and form a structured backlink plan from various sites and sources around those keywords. Keep doing this for a while, results wont happen overnight. Tobi

Fact is SEO on-site is far more important now than it was before. Somes years ago you just had to build a lot of backlinks... but now your content really need to be optimized. I mean you have to think about your message and your target. It's only after that you can start writing and optimizing your content (if you want to have a chance to get on page 1). And Wordpress let you do this quite easily! Personnally I'm using Wordpress SEO by Yoast for long now and it's really great. I'm still using All in one SEO on a minor blog just to keep an active eye on it.

Obviously after reading this I have a looooong way to go to use my Wordpress more effectively. The things you discuss in this post I have no idea what you are referring to. But now I have a good starting point. Well a good second start. Who said there are no do overs in life??? Thanks for the post!!!
  8. Karen says:
Ever since SEO plugins came out, I've set up all my sites in Wordpress — as well as my clients'. HTML sites are a pain to edit when it comes to doing on-page SEO.

SEO is the backbone of any online business. Task is even easier with Wordpress. There are so many plugins that you can automate almost every step related to optimizing your website or blog.

Hi, Get down your SEO. A simple way to generate targeted traffic, by taking a few steps in each blog post. Study SEO pros. Build your site around SEO principles. It takes a few minutes to do in most cases, and your business results will take off. A few moments of mindfulness and discipline makes the difference between 5 or 50 targeted people finding your blog. Sounds worth it to me, right? I resisted SEO for months. Then I woke up. Focus on the passive aspect of your business. It is non-existent? If so, bump up your SEO game. You will be happy you did so. Thanks! RB
