The 4 Types of Bloggers You Should Avoid at All Cost!

July 2, 2011 - Last Modified: August 2, 2011 by Wong Chendong

Types of Bloggers

There are tons and tons of blogs around and all of them do what they can to get your attention. After all, if you like one of them, you’ll keep coming back to it, and maybe even buy something it promotes, right?

There are types of bloggers running those blogs that I think you should be made aware of and avoid, so let me take a minute or two to tell you about them, OK?

1. The Fakers

These are the most harmful to you. Why? Because they’ll make you believe that they know what they are talking about, they’ll position themselves as experts to the point where you trust them and…

…when you take action on what they say, you’ll end up losing time and money, and you’ll run into a whole bunch of problems.

2. The Bozos

A bozo is someone who’ll spend all his energy to prove to you that whatever you’re trying to do is just not going to work.

They’ll keep convincing you that this is just too hard, it’s just too complicated and you don’t have enough knowledge, skill, experience and who-knows-what to achieve what you want to achieve.

Most of the time they’re wrong, but they can be terribly discouraging.

3. The Braniacs

Those are the dudes you just can’t understand when you read what they have to say. They use what I like to call geek speak, and they’ll try to impress you with crazy vocabulary, convoluted sentences and all kinds of other crap just to make you think that they’re smart.

They don’t want to help you. They just want to feed their egos. Stear clear.

4. The Gloomers

You know there are blogs out there that spend a whole bunch of time talking about the negative stuff that happens in the world.

The bloggers running them hate politics, they detest pop culture, they back talk the news, they simply dislike everything.

Now, I am not saying that everything is great all around us and people shouldn’t talk about their problems, but for Pete’s sake…

…not all the time.

Of course crap happens sometimes and you need to vent. Of course you don’t want to bother your family or friends in some cases, so what you sometimes do is go to your blog and rant.

That’s normal.

The problem is that a lot of bloggers out there do way too much of that and they bring new readers down with them.

Avoid those emotional vampires. Those dudes are no good…

Focus on the stuff that makes you feel good inside

So, here are the 4 types of bloggers you absolutely need to avoid. Don’t waste your precious time on them. Just move on and read a post that will provide some kind of genuine value to you.

You really don’t have to read every blog out there, and I am sure you know that already. Just focus on the stuff that makes you feel good inside, and you’ll be just fine.

I do my best to avoid all 4 types but will especially go out of my way to steer clear of the Gloomers.
  2. Sandu Marian says:
I really hate fakers&bozos,I just can't understand them especially the fakers .Thank you so much for the advice.
  3. Joshua says:
Wow this post is actually kinda funny because I am able to put faces to the headlines. 8) Way to call them out. The ones that irritate me the most are the Gloomers! I do not understand how people can live that way.
    • Dawn Conklin says:
It amazes me how many gloomers are out there (I don't mean just bloggers) but some people are just never happy and they say misery loves company. I don't know how people live like that either!! I can put some faces to these types too.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
There are a lot of people who live that way because their mind is "fool" of negative thoughts, just go to Youtube you will see those negative shit videos had more views then any other positive videos... sometime I just wonder what the fuck their brain are thinking, is there nothing better to do...
  4. Nishadha says:
I guess you can spot these types of bloggers once you spend some time in the blogging field. But sometime any blogger can have those bad days so you have look at there blogs a bit closely to find the real value of there blogs.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
When I started out blogging, I really cannot spot which blog is good and which is bad, but as you already know, is a process every blogger goes through, but if for a long time, one still cannot spot them, then that's a big problem... Anyway sorry for the late reply as I had been hold up by a problem from my blog because it was hack until awhile ago it was solve, thanks Andy for commentluv support that alert me a few days ago...
  5. Neeraj Bansal says:
really nice article and one more thing we also have to avoid those bloggers who review new stuff on their imaginations or thoughts.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
What sort of imagination or thoughts do you mean, if you mean negative stuff, then of course it should avoid but not all negative stuff are bad though...
  6. jezza101 says:
Fakers! The good news is you can spot these guys a mile off. They write the same old posts and promote the same old products as everyone else. They never back up any of their writing with anything varifiable. You'll see a number of plausible reasons why they can't share any of their sites with you. Yet there are many bloggers in this space who are quite happy to share the details of their projects and demonstrate that they know what they are doing.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
To be honest, I too don't share my affiliate niche sites to anyone because of competitor reasons... but anyway, just like you say doing the same shit others are doing is easy to identity..
  7. Samantha Gluck says:
A well thought out list of the types of bloggers to avoid. I can't seem to choose my favorite type to dislike the most, but if I had to choose just one, it's got to be the Gloomers. Gloomers can spread their toxin of doom and gloom about most any subject -- it doesn't have to center on politics or the environment. Gloomers can go on and on about the "pain of divorce" (get over it already and move on), "money woes" (get off your arse and find a job -- any job), obesity (or fill in the blank) epidemic, etc. They seem to subscribe to the old tactics we used to call "yellow journalism", except that the journalists Sinclair wrote about were actually journalists, not self-appointed gurus of gloom. Whew! I feel better after that rant. Now let's all smile and be happy! :-) I dare you to move -- and notice how great life really is gloomers! Samantha
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well, I hate gloomers the most too, because their negative stuff is over the limit, sometime it's almost wanting to have a war,. Anyway, good rant and ya let's all smile and be happy and also no worries...
  8. Debe Maxwell, CRS says:
Sage advice, especially for newbies to the blogosphere! I completely agree and am afraid that we're seeing more and more so-called 'gurus' giving bad advice or charging for 'old' advice that is readily available all over the Internet. As for the Gloomers...like grandma always said, "If you don't have something nice to say...!"
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Yes... you just shut the mouth shut, that will be the sentence that I believe is the right way... I mean is better to keep quit then making another word a problem....
  9. Mihai says:
The bozos are the worst kind. Even worse than the fakers... Many people give up on their project when a bozo tells them it's too hard. I know people should have more faith in themselves, but why influence others in a negative manner ? :(
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well... those people that are bozos always though they know the future of the outcome when they themselves never know their own outcome, this people are always around us, so it's best to believe in one-self rather then two...
  10. Nasrul Hanis says:
I agree with your points - there are such bloggers with the criteria that you mentioned above. For me the best thing to do is - stick you yourself. Build your plan. Never make other bloggers as idols but as references. And believe in your own opinion and strength. You'll be a strong one! :D
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Ha, nice one "never make other bloggers as idols but as reference", I like that... and you are absolutely right in believing our own opinion and strength...
  11. Max says:
The third one you have on that list: "The Braniacs", you have all wrong. When they talk about all of that geek speak they are trying to help out people who understand the material by being specific and/pr even be helping people learn what all of it means. The only way that people will understand of the high tech jargon is if they hear it and then start to understand it. It's the same with internet marketing. Before I thought the word "backlink" was some type of word that was difficult to understand but now it's just common language since I hear it all the time.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well... when I'm talking about geek in the business marketing world, not all but most geek talk are specific that you do not understand it at all... seriously do you buy a 100 pages blogging book just to teach you how to setup a a blog? I guess not... I mean I can learn that is just a few pages... so when I mean geek it means this geek are talking stuff that aren't concern... which is just a waste of time...
  12. Greg says:
There is no doubt a ton of the gloomers are out there. Why? Misery loves company. Everyone has met these and knows these types but in our real lives we see them as such and just pity them. Why people follow them online is beyond me.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well, it is beyond my thinking too... When there is up there is always a down... so explaination is out of my brain...
  13. Gautam A D says:
i hate fakers and especially bozos..coz i hav met a lot of 'em. u said it right bout moving on and reading a better post! :)
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
That's the way you should do, move and forget about those fakers and bozos...
  14. Paul Profitt says:
I think that people write according to their mood. There will be some days where you want to write something positive about a product or service that you like. And their will be other days where you want to rant, rave or slag someone off. That is what I like most about blogging, having freedom to express my opinions.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well, you are right... but there are some people who are just talking about negative stuff all the time that it will be a No-No for me no matter what... it's kind the like a illness to me...
  15. HearSay Chatter Blog says:
Well, what I can say about this. It is probably once of the most honest and upfront posts I have every read. I am sure I could add to that list, as I have spent hours and hours trying hard as well to make it in this challenging blog world. but what I have learned is that we are all individuals with our own purposes. No matter what we write, sell, feel, read. we cannot make someone else always understand our way of thinking. It's life and we should have the freedom to say what is on our minds. Maria, I believe and feel in my heart you spoke clearly about this subject, right to the point; people should be so lucky to read your words. Thank you.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
      Who's Maria?
  16. Ikenna says:
There is one of two main things I learn from every blog post I read. One, this is how I should be doing it Two, this is how I shouldn't be doing it. I read, either come back for more or stay away. I first read anyway..
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
As you go deeper into your life you will find more on how I shouldn't be doing... because when you are getting older there's lots of stuff you cannot do anymore...
  17. Matt says:
I started out as a number 4 when I first blogged on myspace. Some idiot hacked my account and I had to start all over again, but I was more optimistic the second time around. I moved over to Blogger and wanted to entertain. It helps when you make good things happen in your life. You have more to be writing about in an optimistic light.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Ya.. with light that's always something positive, though you can write some negative stuff but make sure only once in awhile rather then all the time...
  18. Emil A. Georgiev says:
I have never thought of classifying blogs the way you do in this article. If I disliked a blog's content once I rarely come back to check for its updates. That's all.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well... that's is how I actually classify them, so that I know what to read to keep me motivated and what to read to keep my day a joy...
  19. amandagordon says:
I think the Fakers, Bozos and even Braniacs are relatively benign. They can cause very little damage and one can easily figure them out and leave if necessary. But the Gloomers can really get to you. They can dampen the spirit and lessen the enthusiasm. That's really dangerous.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Yes... they are almost internet cancer.... once they got to you... negative stuff will start to cover up your mind... I hate them most...
  20. Vivian says:
I came across this blog whose blogger is such an angry, negative person. He/she rants about almost everything with so much hatred and negativity. I tried to read his/her posts objectively, but I don't know... the energy in the blog just repels you. Anyway, I've never returned to that blog.
    • HearSay Chatter Blog says:
maybe it is because you have never been in a similar situation or can't see anything from anyone else's point of view. Blogging is an art and people are all unique in their own way, that is what makes the online world so great. You can land on any page and there is always something different to take with you no matter what the subject. Dig deeper, you may discover what people are really all about, otherwise...
  21. Nasif says:
I usually don't care what type of blogger they are. I just read for the sake of reading
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
      That's straight... Like your style...
      • Salman says:
Haha...Nasif's comment made me laugh for a while :D BTW truly awesome post on which bloggers to avoid...
  22. Maria Muir says:
It doesn't say anything in your post that you are only referring to just business and marketing blogs, if that was the case you should have stated so. Your catagory NO:4 states - 'You know there are blogs out there that spend a whole bunch of time talking about the negative stuff that happens in the world.' which can be taken as any kind of blog and not just business & marketing. But thanks for your time and enjoy the rest of your evening.
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Well, this Famous Bloggers blog niche is all about business and marketing, what more do I have to say, or how many post do we have to prove to you this blog is all about business and marketing. I should thanks you, for pointing out a point where every single guest blogger should do "This Post is for Who" in the first sentence, so that it will identify the post are for which type of readers.
    • HearSay Chatter Blog says:
I agree maria. everyone is here for their own reasons.
  23. Maria Muir says:
I was going to write nice little article until I read your point NO:4, I find it quite harsh and to suggest to avoid such blogs is a little uncalled for. Not all bloggers are cut out to write about 'Internet Marketing, Copywriting and Blogging related Topics' so instead they write about things they have some sort of knowledge in and if that includes gloomy posts and what's wrong with this world then that's what they write about. You can't exactly dress it up in ribbons and make it smell of roses now can you? There are many great personal blogs out there and yes some are woe betide me at times, but if you are a regular reader of that blog more often than not you will see that blogger come on in life in leaps and bounds and achieve things they never thought possible. I guess my blog would fall into all 4 of your catagories in which case it should come with a hazard warning, you will either leave suicidal or worse, you may actually learn something. ;) p.s. if this posts twice my apologies, there was a database error when I hit the submit button,
    • Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
Hey, most probably my English sucks that you do not understand what I'm actually referring to, look Famous Bloggers Blog is a blog that talks about blogging, business and marketing, so the whole of my post are written in the form of a business marketing mindset. So point #4 is written for a business marketing blog or you can say "make money blogging blog" or may you can say "internet marketing blog" type. What I'm actually pointing is, if you are in to writing about stuff that talks about business, blogging or marketing make sure you don't write too much about your personal shit of opinion about something that does not concern about the main topic of your blog. So, it doesn't matter if you blog falls into all 4, because the one thing you must understand is, this post isn't written to you or your blog, this post is written specifically for bloggers that are in the business and marketing world. Next time if you want to comment make sure you know what niche or market is the blog in because all the post in Famous Bloggers aren't written for personal blog but for business and marketing blog if you did like to know. So I guess... this is just a misunderstanding. Hope you understand....
  24. Karla Campos says:
Hi Wong, I stay away from bozos & gloomers because I want to stay positive and always believe that when there is a will there is a way.
