Strengthen Your Article Marketing With CommentLuv Links

June 22, 2010 - Last Modified: April 1, 2014 by Kristi Hines 10,349

Article Marketing

Recently, I worked with a client who had articles that were published back in January on a variety of article marketing sites.

The client had taken a look at their articles, and noticed some were not cached. After some additional research, I found that, depending on the network, some articles were cached but not indexed, some came up in search results but were not cached, and some articles were neither cached nor indexed. I wondered, if the articles were not picked up by Google, what kind of value, if any, were their backlinks.

Top Reasons for Article Writing

In the case of this client, the reason they are writing articles is to build backlinks to their website. But there are many more reasons people write on article sites alone or in addition to their own personal blogs, including:

  • Link building for better search engine result positioning for websites based on anchor text keywords.
  • Increasing traffic to websites linked in articles.
  • Earning money through the articles themselves via the Adsense, affiliate products, or number of views per article.

Why You Need to Build Links to Your Articles

No matter what reason you write articles on article directories or community sites, you should consider building backlinks to those articles. Why? Let’s look at how building backlinks can help you succeed at the above top reasons for article publishing.

Link Building for Your Website

If you are using article marketing to build links to your website or blog, building backlinks to those articles will help ensure that they are cached and indexed. If you build enough links to an article, it may also gain some Google PageRank which will make it a more valuable backlink to your website.

Increasing Search Engine Traffic

If the goal of each article is to get traffic to your website or blog, then the goal for each article should be increased traffic for keywords that relate to your website or blog. Building backlinks to your articles will boost them in search results for particular terms, and you will eventually get more traffic from search engines to your articles which will hopefully convert to visitors to your website.

Earning Income

If you use sites such as HubPages as a way to earn income, then building backlinks to your articles will get more traffic to them. The more visitors to your article, the more chances they will click on ads which will help you earn more money off of them.

Direct Traffic from CommentLuv Links

For any goal that must be achieved from having more traffic directed to your content marketing articles, aside from just boosting the articles ranking in search engines results bringing in search engine traffic, you can also gain a significant amount of traffic simply from the CommentLuv links. Leaving great comments on blog posts enabled with CommentLuv that are related to the same topic of the article you leave behind as your CommentLuv link will likely result in people clicking on your article from the blog comment itself, as well as possibly sharing it on social networks and their blogs as well for even more traffic and links.

Setting Up Specific Article Profiles on ComLuv

As you know, to get the best benefits from CommentLuv blog commenting, you should setup your site on ComLuv. This goes for everything from blogs to article directories.

Here is some information about a few of the most popular article directories and communities, plus specific guides on how to setup your article site profile on ComLuv, including everything from registering for a new account, adding additional URL’s to existing accounts, and the advantages of using default links.

The statistics links gives information about the number of submissions to Digg, Twitter, Yahoo Answers, and other social sharing information about each article site, provided by Quarkbase.

NEW Associated Content

PageRank Alexa Links Income Approval Time Social Data
6 544 Nofollow Yes 1 – 2 weeks Statistics

Associated Content, like Bukisa, allows you to add links in the body of your article, but they are nofollow links. Income generation is based on the number of views on your articles, plus you can earn money upfront by completing articles that are most wanted. Featured contributors have the chance to make anywhere from $10 – $1,000 up front for Assignment Desk articles.

Bukisa

PageRank Alexa Links Income Approval Time Social Data
5 5,146 Nofollow Yes Immediate Statistics

Bukisa allows you to add links in the body of your article, although they are nofollow links. Income generation is based on the number of views on your articles as well as members you refer to Bukisa (you get a share of their income).

EzineArticles

PageRank Alexa Links Income Approval Time Social Data
6 128 Dofollow No Avg. 1 Week Statistics

EzineArticles allows you to add two dofollow links with anchor text in the author bio field of each article. They have some of the strictest guidelines in terms of the number of times keywords can be mentioned, and they do not allow overly promotional articles mentioning specific sites / company names too often.

GoArticles

PageRank Alexa Links Income Approval Time Social Data
4 1,746 Dofollow No Immediate Statistics

GoArticles allows you to add dofollow links with anchor text within the article and in the author bio field of each article.

HubPages

PageRank Alexa Links Income Approval Time Social Data
6 214 Mix Yes Immediate Statistics

HubPages allows you earn income from your articles, or hubs, by linking to various affiliate and CPC sites such as Adsense, Kontera, Ebay, and Amazon, as well as earn a percentage of the income that your referrals make on their hubs.

HubPages allows links in the body of their article. To get dofollow links, you must increase your HubPages profile score to above 75 by doing a variety of things including publishing hubs, commenting on other hubs, posting in the HubPages forum, and building your HubPages karma.

Squidoo

PageRank Alexa Links Income Approval Time Social Data
8 241 Mix Yes Immediate Statistics

Squidoo allows you earn income from your articles, or lenses, by getting a percentage of the clicks on your lenses’ Adsense, Amazon, and eBay items.

Squidoo allows links in the body of their lenses. To get dofollow links, you must give your lens a fair amount of content by adding additional modules to it. So instead of just having one chunk of text, it would be a good idea to add an Amazon module with some books related to your topic, a guestbook, and maybe an image or two.

Learn how to promote Squidoo Lenses with CommentLuv. This article also includes screenshots and how to create a RSS feed for your Squidoo lenses (not as easy to find as other article sites).

Using CommentLuv for Other Article Directories

These are certainly not the only article networks out there, just some of the ones I have seen most often used. Using similar directions as the ones for the above listed sites, you should be able to add other article sites and directories to your ComLuv profile as well, providing that the article site gives you a member profile URL and a RSS or XML feed URL for your articles.

Personally, I love to join the conversations that happens between blog posts and comments. I know that when comments are engaging, it adds more "personality" in the article. It's fairly easy to find blogs that uses the Comment luv plugin. But it takes time to build relationships with other bloggers and website owners.

I dont actually use the plugin for my Blog, But do use it for commenting on others blogs, And it does help. Especially with the commentluv premium members - They can target keywords in their comments and comments made on their posts.
  12. Sara says:
Great post indeed! All these informations about article directories are very useful and new for me. Commentluv gives good results and can promote articles in a very good way if it's done constantly and repeatedly.Although these article directories need time to be done in a proper way in order to bring out results, so when I will have more time I'll try it.Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing such productive knowledge that is very helpful for us to use these resource for SEO purposes. We can easily distinguish from this article which one article directory can benefit us a lot.
  16. Peter Lawlor says:
Great article. Second tier backlinking is definitely a sound strategy. A word about Squidoo. I like Squidoo, but these days you need to create a killer lens to get the dofollow links as well as to get it published. I think this is a great development because lenses will gain in authority. My preferred lens method is a block of text followed by a YouTube video I made followed by another block of text and a YouTube video. I add other modules, but the text/video formula works well.
  17. Frank Martin says:
thanks for sharing a beautiful post i think great a idea provide your article and many people take benefits these site are good page rank and alexa rank and use these site to get more traffic nice job keep it up
  18. Alex Sysoef says:
This is a very nice and details guide to using article marketing. Although I personally prefer to keep content on my own site and use articles only as links building, a few years back I have used AC quite extensively and if your content is good - it can be exceptionally benefitial
  19. yazılı says:
Actually even nofollow links may help you in some way. From nofollow links you will not get the link juice or PR but you do get more authoritative web site.
  20. Catherine says:
Hi Kristi, Yes, keyword luv is great! It's a pity more internet businesses don't use it more to spread their links across a variety of related properties.
  21. Adam Clarke says:
Associated Content sounds like an excellent idea. I wish I could add nofollow links to my posts on my blog and generate income from traffic. Does something like that exist?
  22. Abel Pardo says:
Very helpful because of we have not just the links, but useful info about everything. Now, the hard work of trying much of them.
  23. Bev says:
Thanks Kristi for this very informative post. Some great information on how to strengthen article marketing with commentluv links. I have used some of the article directories that you have mentioned, but have not yet tries Associated Content or Bukisa, so they will both be on my to-do list next week. Looks like I might need to "up my game" a bit. Thanks again!!
  24. Kara says:
Glad I came across your blog explaining ComLuv - very valuable information that I'll be using to strengthen our blog marketing efforts. Keep the info coming!
  25. Chad says:
I use commentluv religiously and I think these tips will help me get even more value out of it! I think a lot of marketers don't use commentluv as much as they should be cause it takes time. Guess what folks, you get out what you put in! Great article.
  26. Laura Christine says:
Marvelous blog posting! It's a very informative post! You have given very useful facts about increasing traffic with commentluv links. Thanks for reminding me of the importance of social media.
  27. Samantha says:
I love commentluv. I've met many very cool people through the network, and it's just neat everyone can "connect" helping each other in the process.
  28. john says:
Great tips on how to get article direcotry sites indexed and cached. There are many seo-ers out there that only do backlinks on 1 tier and leave it like that. They think that google will finally index there backlinks. This is not true most of the time. Start pinging and adding backlinks to your backlinks by using commentluv, pingfarm. I see also many use profiles backlinks to their article directory and web 2.0 sites but i don't think this is any good for long term serps. See my article about how to find do follow commentluv blogs
  29. wanda says:
thanks for the great hints provided above, there are really useful. keep it up.
  30. Dave says:
Some really useful tips. Squidoo and Hubpages are great links to have. Pres releases can also make a big impact!
  31. Shah Alam says:
Great article. Comment luv does bring in traffic especially if your post title is 'inviting'.
  32. Ken says:
Thanks Kristi, great stuff as usual! I have to admit, CommentLuv is curling my toes :) The people who created it are geniuses, because since I started using it, I've seen a huge increase in traffic, even though I haven't implemented all your suggestions yet. Imagine the possibilities! On another note . . . I noticed a lot of comments are mentioning concern over the value article marketing brings these days. While some directories have taken a hit from the new algorithms like Panda, most are still holding their own, and can still give you a rather weighty back link. Just make sure your article is well written (no spinning), is within the recommended word count, and definitely placed in the best possible category, and you'll get love from them.
  33. Hayley says:
wow, these are some really awesome promotion techniques! If these comments are made in a moderate way, it's a really great idea! Otherwise, it's just gonna be more spam. Anyway, thank you for the this marketing technique!
  34. mauricio says:
Great messages of helping people to want backlink.
  35. Red or Black says:
Today the legendary founder of CommentLuv Andy Bailey announced the release of v2.9 of the CommentLuv plugin. Big thank you to Andy for his work.
  36. Ash says:
I found this plugin increased traffic, but my spam count did rise, is there a way to resolve this?Ash
  37. John Michael says:
I rarely use Ezine, GoArticles, and so on.. Actually I only submit one or two articles in those sites. I save my best articles for my own website
  38. Christopher says:
I think the commentluv plugin is nice, but it leads to more spam. I don't use the plugin on all of my sites because I haven't the time to delete all the spam.
    • Ken says:
Christopher, Have you tried Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin? It adds a check box under the comment box that requires clicking on to prevent spam bots from commenting. I had the same problem until I installed it. Now I get little to no spam.
  39. Sam says:
I have only just started employing some of the tactics that you have mentioned in this article (including Comment Luv) and in just a few short weeks i have noticed not only a dramatic increase in the speed of posts being indexed but a steady increase in traffic through these links (and of course those looking to comment). I do wonder however whether the latest Google update (Panda / Farmer) means that you would be better served just promoting your on-site content rather than promoting articles added to websites that we know were badly hit - and therefore perhaps less beneficial than they once were.
  40. Zarina Hussain says:
Great article. Driving traffic to your website is the whole idea and placing relative links that direct the audience to your website is the main game. But this is a process that should be done tastefully and not repel the prospectives by overwhelming them with backlinks.
  41. TrafficColeman says:
Article marketing is a must for the backlinks to your site..its all about consistent marketing.. "Black Seo Guy "Signing Off"
  42. DJ ARIF says:
I have been working on article marketing on the last few months, most of my articles are already published but there's no increase of my blog's ranking... what should I DO? any kinda suggestion?
    • DJ Arif says:
I've submitted my last comment on April 4, 2011 but yet no reply :( I'am asking again that I'm working on article marketing but I just wanna know is article marketing still alive or dead?
  43. Rose says:
Great post again from Kristi re: article promotion. Whether you are posting article for your site's backlink or posting article from other sites for income. It is still best doing backlinking strategy with a commentluv plugin enbled sites. Keep up the good work.
  44. Amy says:
I was a bit apprehensive about the plugin but adding it up has spiked up the traffic. The downside though is that i have to deal with more SPAM now as well.
  45. Joanna Ciolek says:
I really like CommentLuv. Using it is a Win-Win for both you and your site's commentators (encourages involvement, leads to repeat visits). Plus you get the added exposure from CommentLuv blogs.
    • Codrut Turcanu says:
hi Joanna, I wonder how did this plugin & community builder work for you so far. What quantifiable results did you experience that you could share with us? Thank you...
  46. Niairen says:
Thanks for the in-depth article. Whether we like it or not, writing is the #1 way to communicate through the internet. I'm using commentLuv too, but I actually intend it for backlinks purposes but after reading your article it opened another useful fact about commentluv. So thanks! keep it up!
  47. Fazal Mayar says:
great stuff, you have a lot of knowledge about article marketing. Keep up the good work on this blog kristi.
  48. Kim says:
Thanks for your in-depth analyzes. Article marketing is definitely an efficient method for increasing backlinks to any website, especially since you are able to create links with specific, targeted keywords. Too many marketers fail to experience the real power of article marketing simply because it takes some effort to create articles and submitting them to article directories. Building quality links from high PR sites (and also from CommentLuv blogs) to your existing articles will increase the link power of these articles back to your website. The results are simple but effective: More targeted traffic and increased revenues.
  49. Darren Scott Monroe says:
Geeze Kristi you are killing these articles! (good thing) and this one was months ago
  50. Fran Aslam says:
Hi Kristi: Awesome article. enjoyed reading it. I did not see this topic written with this depth. Thanks FranA
  51. kirsty says:
Commentluv links is one good way to place a link of your site. Just be sure that is it dofollow because there are commentluv that are being place a nofollow codes. This will help you post be crawl easily by search engine.
  52. tempo dulu says:
but surely Google is clever enough to discount the value of such artificially generated links, isn't it?
  53. andrea fox says:
To optimize the results of your article marketing promotions, you need to be sure that you build your articles and links relating to the best keywords. You will use these keywords in the articles you write and in the inbound links too.
  54. popoi says:
That's great article you have post !.. you give more idea on this article.. I think Commentluv is the best way make commentluv easier.. Thank you for the great article ...

  56. Alex Neill says:
Thanks this was a great blog post, I am envious I didn't write it ha! I have been using articles to send traffic back to my blog and squeeze page, but I never really thought about promoting the articles elsewhere other than the article directories but I will now. Thank you Alex.
  57. Bruno de Souza says:
Good article I used this plugin on my blog, but I had an incompatibility problem with another plugin, I had to disable.
  58. Chris Gustafson says:

Article writing is one of the best method to make online money. Within good writing you can make some good money. As in the article it's shown the steps to the success.
  61. Rajesh Vinaykyaa says:
Is it important to post articles on Do Follow directories only? How important are web 2.0 directories in comparison to other? How many articles can we post in a day on any top article directories?
  62. Rob says:
I use the following query in Google to find commentluv enabled blogs: keyword+&+“intext=”CommentLuv+Enabled” + "show more" This tends to filter out the blogs which are describing how to use commentluv and just reveals blogs which are good for commenting on. Thanks for the info, it was very useful
  63. Kevin Tan says:
I absolutely love this plugin for all the benefits you posted above. The free traffic and link juice is fantastic. Besides it stimulates your blog with activity and value being added to the topic. Gotta reward the people who stick around and contribute.

  67. Shane says:
I've always enjoyed article marketing. In fact, it's a vital tool in every product launch review that I do. Articles still drive quality links to your site and help drive your site up the SERPS. Plus...writing articles is still free.
  68. Henway says:
I've always been hesitant of article marketing because I feel Google will discount those links at any moment, but it seems to be working for so many ppl. Guess I gotta get on the bandwagon!
  69. Henway says:
Guest blog posting is definitely one of the better ways of getting links. And blog comment links actually are pretty effective. I've done experiments where I've only gotten comment links for a site and they manage to rank pretty well for that anchor text.
  70. alex johnson says:
Great tips Kristi. I use comment luv and I'm a big fan, but I hadn't realised how much you can do with it. This has given me a lot to think about.
  71. Josh Ray says:
A lot of freelance bloggers are against the article mills because they say it cheapens the art of professional blogging.
    • Murray says:
Yeah, they usually don't pay out that much but it can be a great little boost when you rather just write about whatever and avoid the TV :P
  72. Michael Anderson says:
Article marketing is an effective strategy to move your website up the search engine ranks as well. Use the techniques described in this article to make money off your article while also helping move your website up the search engine rankings.

Love your blog and this information you posted. You know a lot about it which helps me in my on line progress. Many Thanks
  75. Joel says:
Hi Kristi, Thanks for sharing the cool tips n stuff with comment luv. I'm fascinated to know that you can build links to your articles (Ezine Articles) using comment luv. Although I have never seen a backlink to my website from any of the articles I have posted at Ezine Articles, so i just assumed that it was nofollow. Have you seen baclinks being counted from Ezine articles?
  76. Karan Labra says:
Well I prefer Guest blogging to article marketing. And nowadays most of the blogs are using comment luv to invite commentators to comment and engage into discussions
  77. Paul says:
Hi Kristi, I noticed you started this article talking about how some of your clients have missed the boat on getting backlins to some of their older articles. With that in mind, do you know if Comment Luv provides you with the ability to select which article it shows? I did read somewhere that this could be done but have a) forgotten where the article was and; b) searched the web but can't find the info. Thanks in advance.
  78. Greg says:
I've recently discovered another site for dofollow backlink building–Searchles.com. The trick there is in groups sharing. You are allowed to share your links with groups you are member/owner of. All links are dofollow, which means that one link submission equals one times the number of groups you're a member of.
  79. Mark Walker says:
Looks like a great tool, I'm going to try it out today. Thanks
  80. Davida Yemi-Akanle says:
Thanks for sharing Kristi. I found building backlinks on the free directories a bit tedious. gadgets like CommentLuv really make life much easier, and is mutually beneficial.

  83. Sam says:
I tried using Comment and Keyword Luv on a couple of blogs, but alas I pretty much only got spam. Thanks for the information here though, I wondered why my hubpages links weren't doing anything. I'll look into the other places though thanks =) Btw, it looks to me that the Keyword Luv links here are nodofollow, funny that =P Comment Luv isn't tho.
    • Hesham says:
It takes more than one comment to remove nofollow from Keyword luv
  84. Chris says:
I think article marketing is still the best way to generate targeted traffic. I don't use articles to make sales, however, but to build my leads. I find that building a targeted list is a much better marketing strategy in the long run because I can market to potential buyers more than once.
  85. Amr Boghdady says:
Wow, when I was searching Google for commentLuv, I only wanted to know what it was ! I never knew it was such a strong tool for building backlinks ! Thanks for the great article, I'm joining commentLuv using your referral link (not sure if that will be of any significance though :$)
  86. Brian says:
Article marketing is undoubtedly one of the most powerful ways to generate valuable backlinks to your website. The problem I've found is that so many people just fire up any old article, or worse, a spun article that is of absolutely no value to the reader. It's not only about backlinks but about actually getting real people to follow them. That's why I always try to provide real and relevant content when I do my article marketing. Also, thanks for showing me some new places to post online! Brian
  87. marc says:
Amongst the crowd of people that put all that emphasis on keyword luv and such plugins from hell you will find a high percentage of haters who will just as easily hit the spam button on you.. and after that your domain is banned by ALL Akismet user (another plugin from hell). This is regardless of you being a spammer or not so my disinterested opinion (so disinterested, I am not even entering my site here, so much for google love!) would be to steer clear from any blog who are even remotely into this "link building trend".
  88. Alex Pablate says:
Hello Kristi Hines, If you are talking about link building through commentluv then you don't have much flexibilities for putting keyword, at that place your name is required. So what would you suggest for that, would a keyword domain name work for that?
    • Kristi says:
The CommentLuv links are for building links to your articles, not necessarily to your main domain. If you are looking to do the keyword anchor text for your main domain, the best way is to look for sites that allow KeywordLuv, like this one. :)
  89. Vernessa Taylor says:
Hi Kristi - I never thought about using ComLuv credits to add links to my article profiles. I'll add this to my marketing to-do list. Excellent tips! BTW - the chart in your article looks good. How'd you do that?
    • Kristi says:
I used my new favorite free tool for the stats charts / tables - CSS + XHTML Table Code Generator. :)
  90. sureshpeters says:
hey great..i also tried comment love plugin in my site...it worked well..many of people come and comment and they will get backlinks by comments tat will encourage the commenters :)
  91. Keisha Mosko says:
Enabling CommentLuv in your site is one way of driving traffic to it although I highly suggest that moderation should be strict as we have lots of spammers out there. I appreciate people who leave comments as long as they are contributing to the thread.
  92. jen says:
Great tips, article marketing seems to be a area that is profiting very well. I almost bought a book I found on the web called "turn words into money" looks interesting but Im gonna wait and see what I can do with my own articles first. Great looking site and god bless.
  93. mark says:
This is a very good article that explains it all quite nicely, I came here looking for info on the comluv thinghy and will head over there now to join them via your link, good luck and well done.
  94. Traian says:
Though i have been working with clients on SEO, i never paid attention to generating income from writing articles. Thanks for article. I will try to research more on this.
  95. TJ McDowell says:
I'm a recent commentluv convert. Already I'm seeing results from having the plugin installed and commenting on other commentluv sites. Even on my new blog, it's getting me exposure.
  96. Joe says:
Congrats Kristi on winning top prize in the ComLuv contest!
  97. Ileane says:
Hi Kristie, I just wanted to say thanks again for this awarding winning post. Now that the contest is over I see that Andy has been making improvements to the CommentLuv plugin with Sexy Profiles and he has also updated the "Additional Url's" page to make it so much easier to add your articles from Hubpages, Squidoo, Ezines, etc. just like you mentioned here in this fantastic post. I hope everyone jumps at the opportunity to capitalize on what you have taught us to do here.
  98. Bruno says:
Your idea give me lot of list to do, thanks Kristi.
    • Kristi says:
      You're welcome! :)
  99. Mirko Gosch says:
Hey Kristi, This is such a thorough post and you´ve explained everything in a perfect way for anyone to follow the steps immediately. I especially loved your comparison between the different article directories and Web 2.0 sites which gives us an awesome overview of the specific potential of each service. You really deserve to be the winner of this contest. Congratulations! Mirko
    • Kristi says:
Thanks Mirko! This article was 6 months in the making (from conception to research to finally publishing). It was a lot of hard work that really paid off! :)
  100. Deepak Gupta says:
Kristi, You bring up some good points about using CommentLuv. It just amazes me about how many so called bloggers do not take advantage of this feature along with not doing SEO on their copy or making the content shareable. Deepak
    • Kristi says:
Some people really do believe that content alone will make it without anything else. That has been proved to be false, unless you have the domain authority of Apple backing you up. :)
  101. Kevin Hume says:
Great article. It's hard to argue against using follow links rather than no-follow when people take the time to read your articles and leave relevant comments. I lean more towards the opinion that the focus should be on content over links, but you've convinced me to give ComLuv a shot on my blog and see what the results are like.
    • Kristi says:
I hope you see some great results and get some really involved community development on your blog! :)
  102. Gino Dizon says:
Another great post Kristi! Thumbs up to you! But bloggers should also put in mind that although linkbuilding is important, linkbuilding in high PR sites are much much better since as well as commenting on sites that are in line with your blog's niche. An out of topic question, what's better? A hosted blog or a own domain blog? My blog is hosted by blogspot but I had it redirected to my domain. What's your stand on this?
    • Kristi says:
I like self-hosted on your own domain personally. I think that when you build your "online empire" on someone else's territory (like Blogspot) then you are going to be subject to their rules and changes - kind of like Facebook when you put together a beautiful landing tab just to have them decide to change the default width, and your entire design goes to heck and a handbasket. The same thing can happen on Blogspot, and you'd have no say in the matter. Whereas, if it's something you design on your own domain, it's under your control.
      • Gino Dizon says:
Thanks for that insight Kristi, I'm already prepping my self hosted domain. Thank you very much!
  103. Mary says:
This sounds like a great way to help drive traffic to your articles. I'm planning on starting up with HubPages, and was curious if anyone has been using this technique and what kind of results they have seen.
    • Kristi says:
I do this all of the time with my blog post, and have recently done it with HubPages as well. Getting the CommentLuv links to the posts / hubs have definitely brought more traffic to each, and I'm sure is also helping the hubs become more popular as they are getting more comments than they used to before I promoted them. Definitely good results!
  104. Marc says:
Good tips, after the initial promotions articles that get the most comments, tweets and social mentions should then be taken and re-purposed as infographics, email newsletter fodder, interactive presentations, off line promotions....
    • Kristi says:
That's something I have been really thinking about, but just haven't gotten around to - re-purposing content. Thanks for the reminder! It's a great way to take your blog content and get it on article sites, or vice versa.
  105. Liz says:
Another super post Kristi - thanks! Article marketing is on my to-do list for sure so I'm bookmarking this for down the road. I blog for my business and the temptation is to think that my business is blogging (I wish!) - only so many hours in the day. This will certainly be a great guide when the time comes.
    • Kristi says:
Article marketing can come in handy if you have, for example, things you want to write about that do not quite fit your blog. You can post them on sites like HubPages instead and still get some earnings from it.
  106. Tracy says:
This is a really helpful article. I am bookmarking to read again & really absorb. Question: how do you find the time to get the most out of hubpages and squidoo? I understand that if you don't reach a certain quality score your links are nofollow and not much use. Have you had to pour a lot of time into it or are you able to automate?
    • Kristi Hines says:
With HubPages, once you have several hubs and you have done a little interaction in their forums / commenting on other hubs, you get a quality score that will stay relatively the same. You probably won't get the "karma" to have dofollow right away, but after you publish a few hubs and do the above, you should get it relatively quickly. Also, getting comments on your hubs helps increase your score overall, so sharing them via CommentLuv links definitely helps in getting that to happen. On Squidoo, you just have to put enough content into each lens to make it dofollow, so instead of just an article, you will want to include a few photos, video, and Amazon links to related books to have more "modules." I hope that helps!
  107. K9 Coach says:
Great article. I've been following your blog and Kristi Hines and things that work tend to get posted. Worth reading.
    • Kristi says:
Thanks! Great site too - I bet my hubby would love to get our Schnauzer to surf!
  108. Rob says:
Link-building is essential for SEO purposes, and it's great to comment on sites with CommentLuv and KeywordLuv. I enjoyed reading your Squidoo, Hubpages, etc. on linkbuilding also!
  109. Frank Jovine says:
Backlinks are great, but make sure the site is relevant with your website or blog. Google takes this in high regard. Internal linking is also important. You want to link to articles that are closely related to the current article.
    • Kristi says:
Very true. I would definitely suggest using the ComLuv search engine to find posts related to your article's topic, that way you are getting your link with content that is highly relevant. That works especially well for the traffic aspect too - if your article is related to the post it is linked to, then more people are likely to be interested in it!
  110. Jonathan - Advanced Life Skills says:
Kristi, I must admit to letting this one slip over the last year, thanks for the reminder and all the important reasons behind it.
    • Kristi says:
It's easy to let this one go while you are busy working on creating great content (which you have been) and other projects. I know I have fallen into that state of busy, and then wondered where my traffic had gone, but once I get out and start commenting again, the traffic begins to pick up steam. You're welcome for the friendly reminder. :)
  111. Matt says:
Definitely a series of wonderful tips that allow you to honestly create and garner inbound links. It is unfortunate that so much link building is still done by automated methods that hurt both the search engine and the user. Luckily, most of these articles generally provide some insights into their topics.
    • Kristi says:
I definitely wouldn't suggest automated link building - Google is cracking down on it bit by bit, as well as allowing people to report sites that are doing this kind of linking. Blog commenting the right way, where you go read the post and leave some valuable thoughts, is a good way to go though - it looks natural (because who doesn't love blog commenting) and may even encourage blog owners to link to your in their posts if they see you as an authority in a particular topic. Definitely a win-win situation.
  112. Susan Grewal says:
Kristi, Great post with so many useful links get backlinks from so many useful sites. I am definitely inclined to use commentsluv will try this and let you know how it goes.
    • Kristi says:
Definitely stop by and let us know your results Susan! I'm happy to hear success stories or additional tips!
  113. Tom Huntington says:
Thank you, Kristi, for following me on Twitter and asking me with a direct Tweet to retweet or comment on your article. I am commenting on your article because you asked me to! Now that's got to be a basic marketing principle, if there ever was one! (Tom's University is about Basic Principles of Life) As a very new blogger, my gut response to your article is "Whoa! Now here's a whole other bunch of stuff that I don't even have a clue about. Yuck! I'm so excited about Tom's University and my Podclasses (I do a different series of Podclasses at Tom's University every day and post one to the blog every day), and my primary focus is on refining my delivery and improving the content of my classes. I'm just barely beginning to "get" the need to learn at least a little about SEO and "keywords" and finding that a challenge. How can I possibly find time to learn and practice and do everything you need to do to succeed here?" I even had the thought after reading your article that maybe a Blog and the internet is not the best vehicle for me. (I quickly recovered from that thought, though, because I do believe that the internet, and online communication is "where it's at"). Wow! I just realized my comment could be taken as a negative comment. It isn't. It is just a comment about my learning challenges, which your article triggered. "Learning challenges" are what make us grow (or give up if we don't want to grow). Thank you, again, Kristi, for asking me to comment. I've only commented a few times so far. Just making this comment (because you asked) has helped me learn a little more of the skill of commenting. (Tom's University is about skill building -- life success and happiness are all "skill issues" not "character issues") Wish you the best, Tom Huntington
    • Kristi says:
Thanks for coming to comment Tom! It can be a bit overwhelming when you're starting out and thinking about learning all of the different things out there. I knew very little about SEO when I started out blogging, and just started picking up tips here and there. Fortunately, it is something you can go back and optimize when it comes to blogging with a few plugins. One of the great things about blogging and the Internet is you can always start out, get the feel of things, then reinvent yourself and your content to incorporate both good value for visitors and elements for better positioning for search engines. If you ever run into any particular questions, let me know! And one of the BEST things to do as a new blogger is leaving comments, especially with the CommentLuv system. You'll be building relationships with other bloggers (especially with awesome, well thought out comments like these) as well as get a head start to building links for your website and your blog posts (like the link below this comment). Best regards, Kristi
  114. Elle B says:
Thanks so much for this resource, Kristi! I'm a non-techie newbie to blogging, and so much of it is just strange site names and acronyms to me. Now I've got a good idea of how everything relates. Off to sign up for Comment Love! P.S. Love your Fetching Friday for the same reason -- well-chosen resources for non-techie newbies suffering from information overwhelm.
    • Kristi says:
Thanks Elle! There is a lot of information out there, and it can be overwhelming. One thing I like to do is bookmark things that look like something I want to apply later, that way, when I'm ready to focus on something, I have a lot of resources ready to go. Also, I'm glad you enjoy the Friday mashup! :)
  115. Alex Sysoef says:
Great post Kristi, I was going to create a short guide for my outsourced workers but I think I will just send them to your blog post. You covered it all quite nicely!
    • Kristi says:
Thanks Alex! I'm glad this will serve as a good guideline - I think that, as far as setting up the accounts, each of the specific network guides can be followed pretty easily. Let me know if they run into any issues or questions!
  116. Tim Eschenauer says:
Hi Kristi, Thank you for the great article and great resource. This could easily become the go-to-guide for article marketing. Thanks!
    • Kristi says:
I would certainly like it to be one of the go-to guides for new ways to promote articles! I have been doing it with my latest HubPages, and have noticed a difference in comments on them compared to older ones I created.
  117. Joynal Abedin says:
Article marketing is definitely a great way to build backlinks of a site. I think article submission software can ease this process.
    • Kristi says:
I'm a little wary of article submission software - while some are really good, others can send your articles to some pretty low quality sites.
  118. Randy says:
Great post. Sometimes, the prospect of developing traffic flow is overwhelming. Your article not only offered good advise, you provided your readers with tools as well. Thank you.
    • Kristi says:
I think that it's only fair - if you tell someone a method to do something, to provide them the best resources to do it as well. I feel like when you see an article about how to do something, but not what to do it with, you end up forgetting about it because it's not something you can utilize at that moment. But if you can, and you get started right away, then it's much more valuable.
    • Dr. Skigh says:
Yeah, generating traffic is a little overwhelming, especially on a tight budget. Any little boost can help. I considered using CommentLuv but wasn't sure if I should. This is a good resource to understand why to use it. Thanks!
      • Kristi says:
The way I see it, it can't hurt to use CommentLuv - either for promoting your content while making valuable comments or on your own site. There are lots of benefits of using CommentLuv for blog owners, readers, and commenters!
  119. Brian says:
Great post not only have you told us how to get back links through comluv, you have also pointed us towards some brilliant resources for writing and publishing articles. Much appreciated.
    • Kristi says:
Thanks! Yes, these are my favorite sites to write for. As I mentioned in the comment below, some have that added benefit that you are not only getting backlinks to your site, but you are also getting income directly from the article network itself. It's a win-win situation! :)
  120. Paul K says:
Kristi, This is a really solid explanation of a few tools out there for building links. I think the general theme of the article, your content must be distributed, is very important for businesses and bloggers. There is a cautionary tale here though... The content you are giving away for a link is sometimes worth more than the link itself. Many services know this which is why they eagerly accept content in exchange for a link. This is not a bad practice but it does make me think twice about eagerly giving away my content. My advice, before you put in several hours into an article or infographic and give it away, think about what you're really getting in return. Have you ever measured the effect of giving your content away? Shoot me an email, I think there is a better (not that these are bad) way to trade content for rank and traffic. I've spent the last 3 years thinking about this problem specifically.
    • Kristi says:
That is a good point. I find that, as far as guest blogging goes, I spend more time writing articles for sites that I know will give me a lot of value in terms of return traffic to my site and building community with others, like Famous Bloggers, Social Media Examiner, Stay on Search, and other major sites I write for. I also keep a backup of all of my content, that way if something should happen to the sites I write for, I can always import the content into my own site. When it comes to the article sites, HubPages, Squidoo, and Bukisa have the added benefit that you are building links as well as putting content on sites that will also generate earnings based on ad clicks and views. So that way my writing pays off in two ways instead of just one. I'll definitely email you... interested to hear more of your thoughts!
  121. Gabrielle says:
Thank you, Kristi, for this post! I was not sure how to get started with getting traffic and comments with Comment Luv. You have definitely taken the time to help me out. Your post is very informative and you make the steps clear. Thanks!
    • Kristi says:
You're welcome. I hope you have a lot of great results from using this system like I have. I attribute a lot of my loyal reader base as having come from comments on other sites with CommentLuv, so I'm sure it will be good for you as well!
  122. Aiden says:
I appreciated your professional way of writing the post. You have made it easy for me to understand. Great and precise info. if u want to promote any article its a great site. thanks Aiden
    • Kristi says:
Thanks Aiden! I never thought about the fact that I have a very professional / corporate writing tone - I try to mix it up, but sometimes I can't help myself about being formal. I'm glad it helps make the information come through in a useful way though!
  123. Felicia says:
Your articles are well written and very informative! I would definitely read all of your previous posts and would try out all of the things related in boosting traffic to my "personal" blog site (haven't made it a dofollow yet). These will surely keep me occupied for quite some time, and I hope everything goes well.
    • Kristi says:
Thanks Felicia! CommentLuv should definitely bring you some traffic from the blogs you post comments on. Be sure to think about the blogs that will have readers who are most interested in your website in order to maximize the traffic potential!
  124. Dan Alderson says:
Great advice! This has made me think twice about article syndication. I have been using submission sites like ezine and go articles for some time but recently I have started to move away from it due to the quality of the links from articles. I feel the time could be best spent other link building methods. But I have never tried a few of the sites mentioned in your article which I will now try. Thanks!
    • Kristi says:
There are certain networks that have a high authority from the domain - those are the best to target, as if you promote your articles well, they will likely be able to get a higher ranking during the next Google update. Lower quality article directories will get you a lot of lower quality links, but it takes so many more of those to equal a few higher valued ones.
  125. Andy Smalley says:
WOW...thanks for the info and insight. Another tool for the belt...another thing to master.
    • Kristi says:
Knowing how to utilize CommentLuv blogs is an ESSENTIAL tool, if you ask me, for promoting articles, blog posts, and so on. Especially if you boost it a little and spend the few bucks to get default links!
  126. Abby Gilmore says:
Great post Kristi! Always looking to learn more about article marketing. Thanks!
    • Kristi says:
Thanks Abby! This will come in handy when promoting things like authority articles, guest posts, etc. :)
  127. Darlene says:
Great article, Kikolani! Learned stuff I never knew about article marketing, that I'll instantly apply to my own efforts. Thanks for sharing.
    • Kristi says:
You'll have to come by later and let us know what kind of results you have seen from utilizing CommentLuv!
  128. andrea says:
A lot of information that I was not aware of. I use CommetLuv on my blog but I hadn't thought about others uses such as for article writing. Helpful info!
    • Kristi says:
It's the same concept really... just like CommentLuv benefits your blog posts, it will help your articles on other sites as well! I hope you get to put it to good use!
  129. Tommyismyname says:
wow thanks for such valuable information! I didn't know anything about commentluv before so this is a great resource for that! Amazing stuff! Thanks again!
    • Kristi says:
I'm glad it was a good introduction to the CommentLuv system, which has an amazing wealth of benefits! :)
  130. Sandra Lee says:
Kristi, I appreciate how you always provide so much useful information in your articles. I haven't done any article marketing yet so I greatly value the information and resources you provide here. It looks like Comment Luv has several useful applications.
    • Kristi says:
Definitely! Any site that has an RSS feed for articles that you write (article sites and blogs on almost any platform) can be promoted via CommentLuv!
  131. Peter Fuller MBA says:
Hey Kristi Excellent advice on also back linking to your articles. Many just post an article and then link it back to their blog. The article needs luv too.
    • Kristi says:
Exactly Peter! A lot of people are beginning to question the value of article marketing, but the only way it will become more valuable is if they start supporting their articles as well.
  132. Julie says:
Great article Kristi with helpful information on each site. Where did you get that information? I am curious about other sites, like InfoBarrel, Suite 101, or Demand Studios. Thanks! Julie
    • Kristi says:
Hi Julie, You can use InfoBarrel and Suite101 with the ComLuv system as both sites have author article feeds. I didn't see a writers page from Demand Studios, but so long as the author pages have individual article feeds, it will work! :)
  133. Gabriel Hristea says:
Great article Kristi! Thank you very much for all the tips!
    • Kristi says:
You're welcome! I hope that you put them to good use and let us know the results once you've tried it out for a bit!
  134. Kothapally Arun says:
Yes many SEO's focus on just building backlinks which I believe is just half the process. Building backlinks for backlinks makes the article get more exposure and in turn a vote from such a site gives more ranking boost to your own site. thanks for the insightful post Kirty.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Exactly! Building links for traffic, exposure, reputation, etc. are just as important (and sometimes even more so) than just for PageRank or search engines.
  135. Bruce says:
Great information and very helpful to those of us trying to learn the trade of internet marketing. Thanks and keep up the good work.
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. Article marketing is a big part of Internet marketing, so I hope this helps with your future endeavors.
  136. Matt says:
People always seem to forget about the importance of links back to their site/article. This is great article and if you follow it you will see a noticeable increase traffic to your site or blog.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Definitely - there are a lot of people starting to say guest blogging is more effective, and the reason is simply because of promotion - blogs usually display a post on the homepage longer, and the blog owner + guest blogger will be promoting the post heavily, as opposed to articles where it may never make the homepage and the article site does little to actually help it.
  137. Sofie Moulin says:
Hi, very interesting post, thank you! However, according what you say "if the goal for each article should be increased traffic for keywords that relate to your website or blog.", don't you think that thinking of link-building when you are writing articles this may distort the spontaneity and freshness of content?
    • Kristi Hines says:
I think of the SEO and link building after I write the content, unlike a lot of article marketers that think of all of the best keywords and then write the content with the "perfect" balance of keyword phrases. I do the writing first then look at where the piece will fit in terms of doing the blog commenting.
  138. Chadrack says:
Must confess that I've not read any article so full of information and detail guide on article marketing like this for a long time. This could have been packaged into a special report with a price tag! I'm bookmarking this for record purposes. Don't know how to thank you enough. My hat is off!
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks Chadrack. I'm a very detailed oriented person - I couldn't write part of this without going into the full how-to. But a special report - I never thought about it that way... I like having it public as I get a lot of great feedback on what people think about this technique. It also helps get CommentLuv bloggers more comments, so everyone benefits!
  139. Bryan says:
This is a very good list for all the major sites to get backlinks. I think those nofollow links still get indexed by Google but obviously you would want to aim for dofollow links. I think for Ezinearticles, their approval time varies. If you have a platinum membership with them you will get speedier article approvals. The key to getting your membership fast-tracked to platinum status is to post high quality articles.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Nofollow links are good if you are looking to get traffic from them. So if you know you can get thousands of views of an article on a nofollow network, it still might be worth it. Plus, Google has said before that they do follow certain nofollow links - you have to figure they can't possibly ignoring links from authority sites like Wikipedia.
  140. Val Wilcox says:
Kristi, Tons of great info here with great explanations to boot! I have a much better awareness of how these backlinks can be utilized in different formats like Ezine. That's where I'm focusing my energy with articles at this time. I appreciate all the great info you share! Val :)
    • Kristi Hines says:
That's good that you're focusing on one network - that makes promotion the easiest, when you have one area to focus on. Good luck marketing your Ezines!
  141. ashok says:
Bookmarked not just on Stumbleupon but for me personally: you've reintroduced Squidoo to me. I remember when that first came out in 2006, I think, and a lot of us made lenses, and were like "meh" about it in a week - updating the lenses was taking away from blogging. That PR 8 is looking very tempting right now, though.
    • Kristi Hines says:
I know I have a few lenses from back in the day that could use some updating but would be highly marketable. That's one nice thing about lenses - you can just update them and make them fresh as if they are new, unlike a blog post where you either have to republish it, remove the date, or live with it being dating back in the past!
  142. Prerna says:
Wow, This is truly helpful. Love the HP article. I write there and since my profile score is well above 75, can take full advantage of the dofollow links. Thank you for writing this Kristi. Very useful!
    • Kristi Hines says:
Yes, once you get a great score at HubPages, you get a lot better value for your backlinks. Using this technique to further promote your hubs will make them grow in traffic and comments, leading to an even higher overall score.
  143. Interesting facts says:
I use CommentLuv to leave a comments, because it is the most efficient way to create deep links, if you have more links to your specific post, it will rank better on Google and you will get more visits.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Definitely! I have some post on my blog with pretty good PR, and I attribute many of the backlinks that made that possible to making lots of comments with CommentLuv links.
  144. Julia says:
Your idea give me lot of list to do, thanks Kristi. By the way, i didn't though that the owner of DoFollow.info directory is a beautiful woman. Very surprising, go woman go!
    • Hesham says:
Hi Jail, you remind me with something very important! I need to promote Kristi's DoFollow.info site, I feel this is a must.. I was maybe needing someone awesome like you to remind me!
      • Julia says:
Glad to know that my first comment on Famous Bloggers was helpful Hesham. Yes, i agree if that is a must. Because i also helped by Kristi Blog directory to find many great blog and great writers too such as this FamousBloggers.net. Sure, it's my pleasure to help you :)
      • Kristi Hines says:
You let me promote it in my signature which is really helpful. It pulls some nice traffic from here! :)
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks Julia! Sometimes it seems like there aren't a lot of women in this industry because the "top dogs" that are always mentioned are usually men, but there are a surprising many of us women out there! :) I'm glad you liked the directory!
  145. element321 says:
I tested, out squidoo and hubpages. It seemed like it was a lot work to resubmit articles (recreating for original content) and even building a following on those sites. Are you getting a lot of traffic from these sites?
    • Kristi Hines says:
I do get some traffic from them. There are people on both networks that essentially "live" on those sites, so putting useful articles on those networks drives some of those people off of the hubs and lenses and to your blog. Plus, you can also take advantage of the communities. If you generate a good Squidoo fan base based off of your lenses, you can send "Squidcasts" to all of your fans. I like to send them out with a new lens and then add links to my blog to it as well to get traffic there. And you can participate in the forums - if your blog posts can be helpful to those communities, you can always suggest those there. You just have to walk that fine line of being helpful without too much self-promoting.
  146. Jyron says:
I totally admire your effort in listing these helpful sites, Kristi. This is exactly what I need and I'm thankful I found your post. I think I have to browse in more on your blog for some more strategies.
    • Kristi Hines says:
If you're interested in article marketing topics, you might want to try my latest post on more promotional methods for your article writing with RSS feeds. It covers RSS submission sites, integrating with Feedburner, and of course, links back to this technique of blog commenting as well.
  147. Harsh Agrawal says:
Hey Kristi that's some useful points here to increase the visibility of your article marketing in Search engine and direct traffic.. I have not tried article marketing because most of the traffic which I get is from Search engine, though I will give it a shot for my new portals soon. :)
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks. If you get a chance, stop by and update everyone on your results! I have noticed that 3 of my guides are showing up in the top 10 of search results under promote network, which is pretty good for their newness.
  148. Patrick says:
Thanks for showing us this powerful ways of promoting articles and hubpages. I have tweeted this article. Its brilliant and deserved to be read by many others.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks for sharing it, and I'm glad you find it useful. If you start using this method of promotion, please come back and let us know your results!
  149. Paul Tech says:
Kristi, this is a great idea to market our articles which we have painstakingly written using commentluv instead of our usual blog posts. I have a lot of work to do in this aspect. By the way, can you elaborate a bit on difference between indexed and cached. While the former is good, are there advantages to an article being cached?
    • Kristi Hines says:
Hi Paul, I'm not fully sure about this one, now that you're asked, but here is how I assume it works. Cached is a snapshot of the article that Google takes when it crawls the page. Cached pages can be a few days to a few weeks old, depending on the last time the crawler visited it. Google references information on cached pages to see if they are a good match for search queries. Indexed articles are the ones that come up in search results. So essentially, if you are just building links with your articles, cached is really all you need because it says that the Google crawler has come along and seen the link in the article. If you are looking for traffic to come to your article so you can get clicks on the links in your article, build your credibility on a topic, or earn money from the number of times an article has been viewed or ads in the article have been clicked on, then you will want the article indexed so it shows up in search results. Hence, promoting your articles by building links to them and getting more traffic will make it more likely Google crawlers will cache your page, and also see that it is popular for the keyword terms that you are targeting and index it as well. I hope this helps! If anyone has a better (or more accurate) description of caching vs. indexing, please share!
  150. evelester says:
Great post, I need to spend some time doing this. I didn't even think about how helpful it would be to build links to the articles themselves! As long as the comments are relevant and not from 'that' guy then promoting any of those sites is going to help ('that' guy is the subject of my entry here too :-) )
    • Kristi Hines says:
Honestly, there are "that guys" promoting everything from blogs to articles to businesses. My rules are the comment must be valuable, and the link must not go to something I wouldn't want my visitors to go to and be uncomfortable about. I think that this is a great option for those who just write on article networks - now they can become a part of the blogging community too.
  151. Rick says:
Because of us still being fairly new to internet marketing and SEO posts like yours are even more interesting to us than maybe some more experienced website/blog owners. I have learned a lot from your post and hope we can use your advices to get some benefits for our business. I always thought commentluv was only good for blogs and had no idea it could be from benefit to use it on articles. Thank you so much for sharing this.
    • Kristi Hines says:
I think this is the perfect solution, especially for those who may not have their own blog but still want to promote articles they have written. I'm glad you find it useful!
  152. Jason Jumat says:
Thanks for the info. I guess one will need to fruitfully build up links with great content in order to get even more backlinks. But one of the good ways to get easy backlinks is with the conluv network.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Definitely! And even if you get a nofollow Comluv link, you have to remember that someone may visit your article, like it, and then give a link to it on their own site, thus every link is important for exposure.
  153. satrap says:
What a great tip kristi, I have been doing article marketing for a while now, and although I use CL for my blog, it never even crossed my mind to use CL for my articles on article directories. It makes perfect sense. Thank you very much kristi.
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. Many don't really think about the concept of building backlinks for backlinks, but with the over-saturation of the article marketing networks, it is a must to make sure your article stands above the rest. Especially for those looking to make money online using article writing.
  154. Teatree says:
Well one tip is to write a really high quality article for Ezine. So many people just submit mediocre spun articles. The benefit of a high quality article? It will get republished a lot (though most publishers are unscrupulous and will no-follow the link, you only need a few honest republishers to benefit). Plus if your article is republished a lot, Ezine lists it on their internal "most published lists", which means you get a shedload of internal backlinks
    • Kristi Hines says:
That is definitely a good tip. It's one that I like to think is assumed for this post - without good content, the number of links and traffic won't really matter because visitors won't like the article and therefore not click on your link or opt in or whatever your end goal is for your articles.
  155. frank says:
Not only for article, actually,we make lots of blog comments but only less to appear. your idea is new. that is to say that To build a backlink for your backlink related with website. but i estimate that it will spent more time than usual.
    • Kristi Hines says:
It will definitely take some more time, but the way I see it is a lot of people already spend time doing blog comments for link building - if you run into a blog with CommentLuv enabled, then you could do a link for your article in that field instead of just leaving it blank. That way, in a sea of articles, yours starts to stand out as more valuable to search engines because there are sites linking to the article, and that in turn makes the link in your article more valuable for your website as well.
  156. cat says:
i'm just starting to do comment luv for building backlinks to my website. I had not thought about using it to link to my articles which is an excellent idea. I do have a question though, i'm having a hard time finding a large list of comment luv sites. And the several lists i've found so far don't have too many blogs in my niches (self help, hypnosis, art, etc.) And i hear that you need to build backlinks from sites in your niche. does it really make a difference? and where can i find a large list of comment luv sites?
    • Kristi Hines says:
You may not be able to find entire blogs on your specific niche, but you can find blogs on related niches - I would assume self-improvement, personal development, weight loss, etc. are areas related to hypnosis. You can also do keyword searches for posts on those topics using the Comluv.com search box and Google by searching for hypnosis commentluv. I hope that helps!
  157. Andrew says:
It's people like you Kristi who share some really cool ideas that we can all follow. A lot of people would just submit their articles and get backlinks to their blog / website. By building backlinks to your articles as well, you start to build your own back-linking network. Excellent advice. Andrew
    • Kristi Hines says:
After seeing the articles that weren't cached or indexed, I figured that people might be wasting a lot of time writing and submitting articles but not doing anything to help them become valuable backlinks, then say that article marketing doesn't get good results. Maybe, for those who don't do a ton of articles, or even if they do and just boost ones from one or two networks using this method, they will start seeing some additional benefits and results.
  158. Ileane says:
Kristie, this is a totally awesome post and if you don't win a prize in this awesome contest I would be amazed. You have weaved the perfect web of keywording and backlinking that will surely ensnare every commenluv user on the planet! Thanks for inspiring us to be much better bloggers.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thank you too! I'm really proud of this post, and the ideas that I have sparked in people's minds about how to really go above and beyond for their article writing, so even if I don't win a prize, I'm still going to mention this post often to get more people to join the CommentLuv community!
  159. Haroun Kola says:
Great and comprehensive article Kristi. Good luck with the contest :-)
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks Haroun! Yes, I fully believe in covering all of the bases, and went to extra lengths with the detailed supplements, as opposed to just saying you can and letting people go on their own from there.
  160. Dennis Edell says:
i haven't begun really article marketing yet, but this is fantastic thorough info! Commentluv works off an RSS feed, I didn't realize article directories use these?
    • Kristi Hines says:
Most do - you have to look for the ones that have feeds for the authors specifically - some only have feeds for particular categories. That's why the ones that have author feeds work - you can register and get your posts alone as the 10 in the dropdown. The best way to see if there are author feeds on a site if you don't belong to it already is to find another member's profile page and see if it offers a subscription link or RSS icon - click on it to make sure all of the posts are for that author. If so, you should be set using that site in conjunction with CommentLuv!
      • Dennis Edell says:
        Excellent info, thanks!
      • tonyknuckles says:
I've been trying to implement the comluv tool on the articles section of the directory that I edt. Thinking it could add some real value to those that submit articles and possibly sites. Testing with article side for now. Great tips!!
        • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks Tony! I hope you saw I got your comment on my site too! Sorry I the approval time lagged the other day. I have CommentLuv on my dofollow directory - it does encourage more reviews on the entries. Good luck!
          • tonyknuckles says:
That's fine Kristi..keep doing the awesome work you're doing. All of your content is very informative and easy to understand. This alone makes your articles and commentary invaluable to me.
  161. Dr. Joe says:
Great article Kristi. I had made some hubs but once I started a blog and thought there was no point in posting hubs any more. Then I realized I could rewrite my favorite blogs as hubs and point them back to my blog as a resource link on the topic. That way I could leverage Hubpages solid ranking and have 2 articles on the same topic. More articles could be added with all those resources you've listed. The hard part is time. Rewriting stuff is just a chore.
    • Kristi Hines says:
My re-writing process using involves just copying and pasting the original article and then rephrasing some things, as well as updating some things that are out of date. On my blog, for example, I could get fresh content simply by updating social networking posts, as many networks have changed their sites significantly.
    • Joseph Doughty, DC says:
Dr. Joe thanks for this awesome tip. I've seen this strategy but between Kristi's post and your strategy tip it finally makes sense. ComLuv has been great since I started using it a few weeks ago. Thank you both.
      • Kristi Hines says:
ComLuv definitely bring a lot of benefits to the table, for those using it on their blog and in their commenting strategy. Plus, there's nothing I love more than one commenter helping out another. :)
  162. Stephanie Smith says:
I did not know many of these article sites existed. I will have to check them out. I know when I posted some articles on Ezines it really helped my traffic for a while.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Definitely give them a try... with the right promotion, you can see benefits from just one or two on each site to know if they work for your niche!
    • Dennis says:
There is a difference between Ezines and article marketing sites. Most Ezines have the audience, people actually read them and subscribe to updates. But article marketing sites seem to rely solely on the search engine traffic. We had our articles submitted to 500+ artcile marketing sites and it gave us no traffic boost at all. I don't say it's useless, but not from the traffic perspective.
      • Kristi Hines says:
That I think is one of the issues. Article marketing sites like EzineArticles rely upon search engine traffic, and if you post the articles and do nothing with them thereafter, they really don't have much of a chance of getting ranked for a specific keyword phrase so that people can find them. It seems like it would be better to have 100 ranked articles that someone has spent a little extra time marketing than 500 unranked ones.
  163. Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Great article Kristi. I truly enjoyed it since I am myself relying heavily on article marketing to build backlinks from most of my mini sites. I am personally using Ezine Articles a lot since I believe it's the best article directory there is. But now I will have to check out the other ones, I did know a few of them though.
    • Kristi Hines says:
It is definitely the most used... HubPages has a nice community system though where you can make friends and get to know other "hubbers" in the forums and by answering questions to gain an audience. Squidoo of course has one of the highest PR domains being an 8. And both allow you to earn income directly from your articles in addition to getting traffic back to your site, so they are all worth giving a shot.
  164. Eseotips says:
just join CommentLuv . How does it work ?
    • Kristi Hines says:
You have to setup your site - just go under the Member menu and add it. Then you can get your latest 10 posts in the CommentLuv dropdown on CL enabled blogs! You can email me if you want some more help setting things up!
  165. Anne Moss says:
Not sure why this article just showed up in my RSS reader, but I'm glad it did! Great info there - thank you!
    • Kristi Hines says:
Are you using Google Reader? I've noticed that some items from blogs I'm not subscribed to pop up every now and again, and I think it is because people I'm connected with or have subscribed to share posts from their Google Reader with you. Either way, I'm glad it did and that you liked it!
  166. Josh says:
Geez Kristi did you miss anything? These are some great pointers for anyone seeking to gain some better traffic to their blog. I've been considering directory submission, so I'll have to try these out.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Oh, I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff, but I think this covered the basics. You'll have to let people know how that works in getting more traffic to your site!
  167. John Soares says:
Kristi, thanks so much for detailing all of this information. I've mostly focused on ezinearticles.com and a little on GoArticles.com. I'll check out the other sources soon.
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. HubPages and Squidoo can be pretty good - they are a little more involved vs. the plain text articles you can do on the other sites, but I think the extra details make them more appealing than text articles.
  168. Caitlyn says:
Kristi, great article. The amount of information about SEO, link-building, affiliates and marketing and Adsense...etc etc, can be rather overwhelming. So it's nice to find an easy to read and understand guide covering a few of the important sections. You've got me checking out HubPages and Squidoo now; and CommentLuv (what a fantastic plugin!) brought me to this site, and I still haven't left and it has been several hours, haha. Thanks for the great resource! Keep it up and keep in touch! All the best!
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks Caitlyn. I find that there is a lot of theory when it comes to those topics, but not so much in the way of easy to follow guides (unless you're talking about the super basic stuff) so I try to give ideas on how to apply technologies (like CommentLuv) creatively, in this case for link building and article marketing.
      • Caitlyn says:
Absolutely. CommentLuv is incredible; it connected me to this site, and through this site, over to Kikolani.com. It's amazing the great resources out there that fly under the radar until you're lucky enough to stumble onto the right site and find a whole new group of 'must-have bookmarked' places. Hope your week is going well!
        • Kristi Hines says:
How you got here is a great testimonial on how powerful CommentLuv can be. Sure you can see someone's name linked to a website, but it is much more compelling when you see what they have to offer in an article title to actually get the click through. I'm glad it has helped you find some great resources, and I'm sure it will help you find many more in this network!
      • Caitlyn says:
Also, I think I've been convinced to purchase and learn to use the Thesis theme. It just looks SO good everywhere I see it! Looks like they use it here, and I'm thinking you use it at your site as well...
        • Kristi Hines says:
Yes, Thesis is powering this site and my personal blog (Kikolani) as well. It works a bit differently than other themes, but once you get used to the way it works, it can be a really awesome theme. Plus if you don't want to get into the design aspect, you can find people to help you customize or get a "skin" that will change the design for you.
  169. Colleen says:
Very nice summation of the various article resources. Regarding Squidoo,- I tend to keep SEOMoz's toolbar loaded and activated when surfing. Squidoo's domain has a very high Moz Rank. Usually in the upper 80s (out of 100). Also, Squidoo is great for traffic. I've seen. in
    • Kristi Hines says:
Yes, they definitely have (I think) the most authority out of all of the article sites out there. They have some pretty high rated lenses as well... I think I've seen some at PR 6 which is something I haven't seen on many other article directories.
      • Colleen says:
Yes, you are right Kristi. In fact we have some PR6 lenses. And our profile page is a PR5! Not bad to have article marketing, link building, and a monthly income (or monthly contribution) to boot! :)
        • Kristi Hines says:
Exactly... people wonder why you would want to be writing outside of your blog, and those are great reasons right there! PR 5 and 6 links back to your site are definitely worth it!
  170. linda says:
Hey Kristi, I feel smarter already just having read your insightful and educational post. Thanks so much for sharing it with us! A very important part of business building is getting maximum mileage out of every activity undertaken. Your suggestions are a great help with that for article marketers. The time and care you've put into compiling this post for our benefit is greatly appreciated. Linda M. Lopeke
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks Linda! I like the way you put that - "getting maximum mileage out of every activity undertaken" - if you're going to put time into anything, you might as well make each effort count as much as possible.
  171. Stanford says:
Kristi, This post opened up an entirely new promotional area for me. I've done some article writing in the past but at at a basic level. You've got me thinking about reinvesting some time into this. Thanks!
    • Kristi Hines says:
That's how I felt. I have been thinking about writing these articles for ages, and now that I have, I feel like I have a refreshed view of what I can do with article marketing to take it to the next level.
  172. Dewane Mutunga says:
Thank you so much for the post! I've been looking for some link-building strategies and you've provided great food for thought. Link-building will help increase traffic, which will in turn help further monetize one's site.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Exactly... I'm glad you find this information useful in your link building efforts!
      • Dewane Mutunga says:
Thanks again! Question... I signed up for ComLuv after reading this post & used (or thought) I used it when I commented but no link appeared under my comment. Why is that?
        • Kristi Hines says:
Sometimes when you first sign up, it takes a little bit for your posts to percolate into the system. You will want to go to http://comluv.com/member/unban-url/ when you're logged in and enter your URL - that should clear it!
          • Dewane Mutunga says:
Thanks! I unbanned my site so hopefully it works now!
          • Kristi Hines says:
I just tried your site on my own blog w/CommentLuv, and it pulled the last several posts, so you're all set!
  173. Asad says:
I am using article marketing for my blogs.I wrote some articles at ezine and hubpages.I noticed that if we write an article on ezine with the backlink to blog related article, the blog article will aslo rank good in search engines specially Google. Hupages also give benefit of backlinks and Adsense CTR is also very good.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Yes, HubPages does pretty well with Adsense (assuming your content is right on with keywords and pulling in the right ads), so you can generate income from them as well while promoting your main site.
  174. The Bad Blogger says:
Well, great post, I think I will sign up comluv. I personally use article to gain traffic to my site and there is a trick to using article to gain enormous amount of traffic to 1 specific article (will reveal soon on my blog) sorry for pitching... anyway, looks like I'm going to make good use of comluv now... and see if I can find any good tricks on using it.
    • Kristi Hines says:
No problem for the pitch... you should come back and comment here when you post it so CommentLuv can pick up the link so that other article marketers visiting this article can see yours as well. I'd certainly be interested!
  175. Nabeel says:
Wow, I never thought about promoting my Articles themselves! I have to admit, it took me some time (I read this post thrice) to get it, as I have never heard of making backlinks for the articles themselves. First I thought this was another article marketing post, but when I finally understood it, it actually makes sense. But the problem is, when you have limited marketing time, what should you do? Promote your articles or promote your site? Nabeel
    • Kristi Hines says:
Hi Nabeel, It depends on your goals. I look at getting a popular hub as reaching out to a new audience that may not necessarily find your blog when you're promoting it on sites outside of HubPages. Also, if you promote your hub on a blog run by a blogger who also uses HubPages, they will likely to visit your hub as well (which has happened a few times already from this article to my Squidoo and HubPages' guides. So you can pull other community members to your blog by having a popular hub, and you can pull bloggers into your hub community from your comment promotion. Either way, you're generating new traffic for your sites which is a definite plus.
  176. ravi says:
Thanks for these tips Kristi I am new blogger and I was not knowing much about link building! thanks again
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. I'm an Internet Marketing Specialist, so I'm always trying to think of good ways to adapt common link building techniques for bloggers, and article marketing promotion with CommentLuv is a good synergy of those two topics.
  177. dimaks says:
I was able to make some articles in one of the article submission sites above and i think it is time to boost them up and get traffic to my blog in return. Thanks for sharing this!
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. I hope it does bring some additional traffic to them!
  178. Jonathan Beebe says:
I never really used article marketing for the backlinks, simply because for the time, you get a better investment for quality backlinks by guest posting, and promoting your posts to attract more links, etc. I always did article marketing for the 'boost' of traffic you get once it's updated, but since article marketing has evolved (as everything else does online), the traffic you get right off the bat isn't as great as it used to be, so building back-links to your articles makes sense if you want yours to stand out among the multitude that's being submitted each and every day. Thanks for the very informative article!
    • Kristi Hines says:
Definitely... a lot of people are starting to get jaded that article marketing sites are full of re-purposed, spun content. If you are creating unique articles that are getting traffic and comments, it will make your articles stand out from the rest and make them more valuable!
  179. brain says:
wow Kristi Hines superb post i already fan of you blog kikolani.com, and this post is getting huge benefits for article marketer, if you in put quality content in your article and the take some support via SMO i hope you get more traffic via article. and this also help for increasing your SERP...good post thanks Kristi.
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome, and I'm glad your a fan and have found me here too! Yes, I definitely think quality articles on these sites (and many more) will benefit from a little extra CommentLuv promotion.
  180. Gautam Hans says:
I haven't given a try to article marketing, I usually prefer guest blogging and commenting to build links to my websites. This is the easiest way for me
    • Kristi Hines says:
I think the lure of article marketing, especially with HubPages, Squidoo, Bukisa, and similar sites is that you are building links to your website and getting a little income from those sites themselves. Plus you are putting your articles on sites with high authority domains (such as Squidoo being a PR 8). If you can land a PR 8 guest post that shares it's revenue with you, then that is pretty amazing, but chances are it will be difficult, which is where these article sites come in. I have one hub that every click is about $3, which is very nice indeed.
      • Gautam Hans says:
I will definitely give it a try once I am done with establishing my brand and i have spare time for article marketing. $3 per click is appealing :)
        • Kristi Hines says:
Yes, creating the hubs for income should be thought of like creating niche websites - do some keyword research, write a great hub, and market it like a full website, even though it's just one page on a domain that already has authority. You can get some great results!
  181. Rohit Sane says:
According to the latest SEO guidelines and advice released by Google, it is mentioned that it will be better to create good content for yourself rather than creating content for others.. Even though this may be true for Google SEO, we will need article marketing for Blog promotions. Thanks for the list of such popular sites for Marketing!
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. I think there are still going to be a lot of people that would prefer writing articles than writing their own blog site, and for those, this will be especially helpful. Especially for those looking to make passive income off of HubPages and similar sites.
  182. Gail says:
WOW Kristi. Why didn't I think of that? I wonder how long it would have taken me to think to build backlinks to the articles we use to build backlinks. What a ton of work you put into this whole series of articles. I hope that anyone reading this will visit Kikolani and read Kristi in all the blogs where she is published. She has taught me so much and is so very helpful to anyone who asks. She is hands down my favorite blogger and I know that each person reading this will greatly benefit from what she shares.
    • Kristi Hines says:
I really appreciate the kind words. Oddly enough, I have been thinking about doing this series for ages, and after getting to know you and then meet Andy through you, I finally got the motivation / encouragement / go ahead that I needed to test it all out and promote it. It's funny that most people think about getting links on high PR pages, but not many think about making a page from scratch and helping it become one. But that way your own content becomes authoritative and helps build better value links for more of your own projects. It's a win-win situation.
      • SEO Company says:
Hi Kristi, i want know how can article marketing help me gain sales or leads..i submit many article in e-zine and top article directory but i think i not get more lead or sales via Article marketing can you share some tips?
        • Kristi Hines says:
I think the only way it can help is if you are writing informative articles on the service you are offering. Like if you wrote a ton of HubPage articles on how to do effective SEO strategies, maybe someone who "lives" on HubPages but has a website elsewhere might see you as an authority and inquire about your services. I have gotten freelance inquiries through forum posts, LinkedIn answers, my blog, guest blogs, and one through HubPages for writing services. The most important thing is making sure your articles are valuable for the readers. Spun, scraped, re-purposed articles or ones that are too simplistic probably are not going to cut it for generating leads - you have to really prove your expertise to people in every article you write (and preferably interlink them).

I just read an article about commentluv last night and signed up for an account right away. Funny today came this post...I have been writing articles for these directories for OTHER people for a long time, now that I am striking out on my own, having all this info in one place will be extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome... I hope this gives you some new ideas on how to use the CommentLuv system! It definitely has made a difference in promoting blog articles, and I am sure it will do the same for articles anywhere.
  184. Mike says:
This is such a new information for me. I haven't heard or paid attention to this commentLuv network before, although I have installed commentLuv in my blog for a long time. Thank for the helpful info. :)
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome. I hope that you find some new ways to utilize it!
      • Mike says:
Actually I have just implemented it and I found some great use and resources that you have shared to me :) I hope in the future you will have some similar posts like this. Thanks for sharing again!
        • Kristi Hines says:
I have a followup to this coming soon! :)
  185. Dana says:
I do not specially intend to build link for my article. However, since I am really in to blog commenting, I think each of my article get good back link from dofollow com luv blog. :)
    • Kristi Hines says:
Well, even if you don't think of it as link building, think of it as getting traffic to your articles. That can be just as helpful!
  186. Nea says:
I've written articles for several article directories before, but I never thought to build links going to the article. I only used links within the article content. Once again...you're helping me the carve time off the learning curve. Thanks so much Kristi.
    • Kristi Hines says:
It's something most people don't think about - building backlinks to something your using to build backlinks. But the stronger your article is, the better your link back to the website, and since most bloggers here at least know of, if not use, CommentLuv it makes all the more sense to show them ways to take the benefits of that system and use it for articles as well. I hope it makes a positive difference!
  187. Sean Supplee says:
Fantastic always new ideas and new things coming out its hard to keep on top but this blog post was the best out there. Looks like a new tactic I can start using plus I love comment luv :D
    • Kristi Hines says:
I don't know how new it is - I saw some articles on promoting using CommentLuv, but none seemed to detail how to get the best out of the service. Once you're registered, you get the maximum value - especially if you do default links for more specialized keyword phrases. I hope you get good results!
  188. Sarah Arrow says:
Thanks Kristi, I do a lot of article marketing and I have missed quite a few of these tips to build better links to them. Am going to work on it now - thank you for sharing
    • Kristi Hines says:
You're welcome Sarah. Feel free to contact me if you need any help via Twitter (I follow back, so you can DM me).

I must admit to being negligent in this area Kristi. I do write for the directories occasionally and have rarely linked back to them. Thanks for showing why this is so important.
    • Kristi Hines says:
I bet one site that would be great for you would be SelfGrowth.com. But I have been looking around at that site for a bit and cannot find a RSS feed for individual authors, which is what you have to have to promote articles from a particular network on CommentLuv. If you happen to be a member and can find out if there are author feeds though, you can use the same approach as the other sites I listed to your articles up on ComLuv.
  190. Dr Dean says:
Kristi, as usual, you have given me enough new info to keep me busy for a week. Thanks for all you do to help others!!
    • Kristi Hines says:
I hope that it prove valuable! And you're quite welcome. I enjoy sharing tips with others! :)
  191. Tia says:
OK so your brilliancy and coolness factor just went up about 10,000 notches. :) Not only is your link building for articles advice here totally solid but I wonder if anyone else caught how smart what you've done on all of those different sites is? Thanks, by the way, for doing all of that work. I know that it must have taken some time. I love the fact that you put up the HubPages one, especially, because I am a new hubber and really like it. Cheers, Tia
    • Kristi Hines says:
Thanks for your comment here and on the hub. Customizing the articles on the sites themselves was the most time consuming (especially since two of them considered mentioning CommentLuv AND their own article directory was being too promotional of each site), but I figure that people who only write on those networks will only notice things written on them, so it would be better to reach them that way.
  192. DiTesco says:
Now this is what I call a real link building advice. It is ironic that I have submitted some articles on eZine and I totally forgot to build backlinks for those articles I wrote. I figured they where there and that was good enough to build some inbound links to my main website. Silly of me, lol. Thanks a lot for giving me more work to do, haha. Good thing I a CommentLuv member and this should be all done in a breeze..
    • Kristi Hines says:
I was really surprised in my research when I found some Ezine articles that weren't cached or indexed. And I'm sure that's not helpful at all. Yes, since I'm a member of ComLuv already, it was super simple to add some of my article sites (all of the ones I wrote about) to my account so I can promote my articles along with my blog posts. Having them all in one dropdown is quite convenient! And you're welcome. I hope the extra work pays off! :)
      • DiTesco says:
Hi Kristi, it is paying off already. Just went to check out my articles on eZine (not a lot) and fortunately all are indexed and cached, and that's good, right? Funny thing though is they all have one lousy backlink each. Got to remedy that right away. See , I told you that you like to give me some work to do :)
        • Kristi Hines says:
That is good. I don't know how they decide (or if they do) which ones are cached and which ones are not, but the ones I looked at for the client were from 6 months ago - plenty of time to be cached and indexed. Newer articles I understand not being handled yet, but older ones definitely should be.
          • DiTesco says:
You are right Kristi. My articles were submitted on 06/2009 and 07/2009 respectively. So I guess they had plenty of time to get in there. That's almost a year gone by!
  193. Nick says:
Great post Kristi - I had never even thought of this. It's a great point though because I see tons of submissions in article directories that never even get cached - this is a simple way to make sure you at least get some credit for your hard work in writing an article, especially with all of the additional benefits you mentioned above - thanks for sharing!
    • Kristi Hines says:
That research I did for a client was a real eye opener. I know that there are people who submit articles to tons of directories through a submission service that probably don't even notice or care, but for those who do less articles and shoot for high quality, I thought this should be something they add into their plan. It's just like promoting blog posts through comments, except your posts are your articles.
  194. Zack says:
Another trick I do sometimes is to build a Squidoo page with an article and have my article that I'm blasting out link to the Squidoo page and my website. On the Squidoo page I link to my website (using my keyword hyperlinked of course). That way I'm getting a lot of links from the article marketing to my site as well as making my Squidoo page stronger so that link to my website is more valuable.
    • Kristi Hines says:
Sounds like a good tip. I haven't been on Squidoo in a bit, with exception to making this lens on how to promote it with CommentLuv, but being on there reminded me that I needed to start focusing in on that site again and updating my older lenses.
