4 Basic Elements On Starting A Blog and Nurturing It To Profits

March 1, 2012 - Last Modified: March 29, 2014 by Crystal J. Briscoe

Start A Blog

Are you willing to start a blog and make profits from it? If yes, then there are certain things that should be kept in mind before you can actually set up a blog, one that is successful and will help you monetize your efforts in creating it.

What do you need to do?

Well, if you want to know the secrets to successful and profitable blogging, all you will have to do is hang on and read further ahead. This article explains four basic elements that should be kept in mind and never ignored if you desire profitable blogging.

1) Get reliable Web hosts:

For a successful blog it is important that you have a reliable web hosting company at your end. Register with that web hosting company that allows c-panel web hosting and then look for a good domain name to purchase.

For successful blogging, it is necessary that you have a domain name that is easy to relate to and remember, so that people do not have difficulty recalling your blog or typing its address to access it.

Make sure your domain name contains the keyword for your blog.

This will make it easier for the SEOs to help people get back to your blog when they search for the specific keyword. Never forget to start your blogging by installing WordPress in the root directory.

2) Concentrate on Themes and designs:

When you have WordPress make sure you choose a good theme and design for your blog and remove all unnecessary content that you find on it.

Make navigation to and from your blog easy.

Make sure you do not use complexity and try to keep your theme light. Heavy themes that are incompatible with slow speed internet connections can result in making you lose your important traffic at times.

3) Market your blog:

Make sure the content that you have on your blog is valid and then try to market your blog to the maximum so that you can get a good amount of traffic back. It is the visitors that determine the success of the blog; therefore if your blog is well marketed it will definitely yield a high number of visitors and good profits.

4) Enable traffic interaction on your blog:

Involve the visitors on your blog to make them stay with it. Enable commenting on various posts and feeds.

Also try to enable guest posting to bring a potential guest visitor back to your blog.

You can also allow article submission on your blog to keep the regular readers of your blogs involved.

Exchange links to and from your blog to get more and more traffic.

Will these help?

You definitely need to take care of the above mentioned points if you have a dream to become a successful blogger and monetize your blogging efforts effectively. Don’t ignore quality for quantity. Update your blog regularly and make it interesting. Make sure it is not outdated and keep the visitors hooked. The more traffic on your blog, the more profits you will make.

All four points are very essential and makes your blog really attractive to visitors. I have free theme on my blog but planning to buy premium theme so that it looks more professional.
  2. Scott H says:
I have heard a great deal of not changing the theme or design too much or too often. It throws off readers, confusing them as to what your priorities and goals are. Focus on quality content in a consistent basis.
  3. Mahendra says:
Excellent post personally I think for the first year or two its better to concentrate on having an excellent blog, once your writing quality posts readers should increase and bring with them opportunities for revenue.
  4. Nichole says:
What I don't like with other bloggers is when they overdo their themes which is so a mess to me. With that kind of presentation, I'm getting out of it. Not interested anymore with their blogs.
  5. Ricardus says:
Reliable host plays an important part. You don't want your site to suffer downtime all the time.
  6. Liane says:
Couldn't agree more on #2 haha. Or yeah maybe it's a bias of mine (well definitely) :P
  7. Jamie Northrup says:
Like Karo mentioned in the comments be everywhere and plan, plan out your goals and the tasks you need to complete to reach them.
  8. Karo says:
My 4 Basic elements I would give to a beginner who is really serious about making money blogging are: 1. Think Wordpress. Yes you pay about $12 monthly for hosting (for Hostgator) but for that you get complete control of your blog, access to free useful plugins and great great flexibility with your blog. 2. Plan your blog as you would plan any business before diving into it. Research your market and make sure you can win with it in both ways. First that there no too many competitors. So you don't continue to struggle to win at the search engines and get noticed as an expert. Or that there reasonable number of people searching for information on the topic you desire to write about. You don't want to set up a blog and start publishing only to realize there's only about 10 searches for the topic in a whole month. Second that are at least 3 strong ways you can monetize the topic once you start getting traffic. That there are many ways to make money from a blog doesn't mean all blog topics are responsive to them. Ask yourself: What ways will you like to make money from your blog? And then follow with, is my blog topic profitable in these areas? You have to find out all these information before you even think of a blog name, domain name or what have you. You should have a clear topic planned out before buying a domain name and moving on with any other plan, because your blog topic will affect must of the decisions you will make at the beginning. A good keyword research will give you all these data and more. Overall a great topic of choice will be one you're really good at (whether it be your hobby, a passion, an acquired knowledge, or an experience. You must be good at your stuff), keyword gets decent search monthly and it has many related topics that can form good blog posts, not competitive and above all can be monetized. 3. Create a brand. Do this through your blog design and content. Create a style for yourself with your design, keeping in mind visitor's usability and your most wanted response for the site. Create a style for your content. Find your voice and be consistent with it. Do not try to be like anyone else. Write content that works. 4. Be Everywhere Find out where your audience hang out and hang out with them. If you don't do any other blog promotion, do guest posting and blog commenting. Guest posting and blog commenting are the two best blog marketing techniques because they have several benefits. When done properly: You get backlinks from authority sites You get traffic You network with your niche blogger You get exposed to several other readers who eventually become your blog readers and even subscribers You brand yourself as an expect I just love the 80/20 traffic/link building strategies. Do 20 percent of the work and get rewarded over and over. I could add more tips but I believe if you do these four right, there's no way you won't achieve success with your blog and start making money. And all in a short time too. I wish you all the best
  9. Dave Lucas says:
Hi Crystal! I would disagree only with #1 - I think it is much better to blog on a solid platform, like Google's blogspot, where you don't need to depend on a hosting service, which essentially has you at their mercy, in may different ways. Otherwise, Blog On!
  10. RebeccaB says:
Hi Crystal, These are great tips. I have a newly established blog and I still don't know many things. By reading this I have learned a lot. Thanks for this post.
  11. Abhi Balani says:
Easy navigation! This is what I suggest to everyone, in my articles. Blogging is not about just writing and publishing, it's much more than that. Interacting, promoting, building relationship with readers and other bloggers out there. I keep working on the last 3. Don't care about the first one because I'm on Blogger. :D
  12. Ryan Biddulph says:
Good points Crystal. I'd add to create a ton of usable, helpful content. Stuff that positions you as an authority a pro in your niche. Add value, become valuable, is the mantra of all successful bloggers. Thanks for sharing! Ryan
  13. Daniel Black says:
This is easier said than done isn't it? I mean look at tip No. 3. You said market your blog. We both know how much time, effort and money goes into this. perhaps you should do another post on how to market a blog properly? Looking forward to it :)
  14. Mark says:
A good way to capturing the traffic coming in to your site is putting a lightbox like the one that Hesham puts here on FamousBloggers.net. This way you make sure that you make use of that traffic over and over again. Thanks Crystal M Mark
  15. Kharim Tomlinson says:
Great tips bro. This is what I did to my blog and I am having great success. If every new blogger do this then things will work great for them as well.
  16. Saka says:
Yes, all of them is basic for blogging ;) No. 3 and 4 is the real challenge, because how ever you have a great design and how beautiful your blog, you need to spread about your blog and get more and more traffic and that is the art of blogging :)
    • Abhi Balani says:
Right. And actually, we just need to start sharing our blog. After getting few readers we can as our readers to share if they like. So it'd be easy to promote our blog, if we can provide useful content which out readers can share happily. :)
