Why I Will Not Publish a New Guest Post Today

December 23, 2010 - Last Modified: March 28, 2013 by Hesham Zebida

Nothing To Say Today

Today, and like everyday I checked my emails and sent some replies, everything seems to be cool, then I opened my blog dashboard to see check guests posts and pick today’s post to prepare it for publishing, and guess what?! I changed my mind!

The first post

The first post I checked was not worth it! I say OK, let’s find another one, I don’t want to be embarrassed promoting something that has no value! This guest post sucks!

The Second Post

The Second post was having a lot of old highly repeated content! not even one single interesting tip! I bet my grandma will do better than that! So.. This guest post sucks as well, let me check another one.

The Third Post

Damn it.. The third post was about SEO!

SEO? Do you know what SEO means?!

Probably you don’t know this.. But.. it’s true.. Whenever I write about SEO I start shaking and I feel terrified!

Come one.. No one should write about SEO unless he/she knows what they are talking about! No one should write about SEO unless they have something new to share or at least a fresh cool idea! So, I changed my mind.. Guest Posts Sucks today … Period!

Guest Posts Sucks today!

Yes.. I will not publish a new guest post today, of course this will not stop me from updating the blog and giving you something to think of!

Actually, I think this post is more important than publishing a guest post from pending for review list!

I will go get some fresh air, then I will be back in case you have something to say!

I agree that it is annoying when people write about something when they do not know anything about it....BUT... I have found some amazing golden nuggets from the most unsuspecting people... My motto.."you can learn something new everyday" But this can only happen if you are open to learning from everyone regardless of age and experience. Some people just have the answers you want and they might not even be trying to give you that message either. When it comes to rehashed information...I hate that too... BUT...again...It might be presented in a better way and therefore can be more valuable...?? Just a thought...
  2. Fran Aslam From Onlinewriter says:
Hi Hesham: I am reading this post late, but I liked reading it and therefore, decided to read it in full. I read all the comments and replies also. Gave me a whole new perception about guest posting. I like what Shauket have to say about guest post and you agreed with him. I agree with him too. It depends on individual how to take action. Hesham I will make sure I write a post that gets me good comments and might help you to maintain your traffic rank. This is a hard commitment. Keep up the good work. This post the quality of guest post was a good read and people need this kind of post to stay at the right level of performance. Take care Fran A
  3. James says:
For many guest posting is opportunity to gain a link. It's important to write from experience. Experience means reading an article for worthwhile. Many people accept guest posts, because writing content is a time consuming process. Proofing is even more time consuming. Although, I was can create an article fairly fast. The most difficult thing is to create orginality. If you're going to guest post, it's got to be something worthwhile.
  4. Dana says:
Oh my, I think you stop receive the guest posting at the moment. Nice interesting title. ;) Btw, I think you make a right decision here. We should not compromise with the quality ever to keep our blog in right track.
    • Hesham says:
Hey Dana, I am doing my best to make it a good place for everybody, and we've solved a lot of guest posting problem and issues in the last few months, which is great! Thank you for stopping by and great day to you Dana!
  5. Uttoran Sen says:
The problem is that some people think about guest posting as article marketing and they start submitting lame articles that are so appreciated at ezine but on blogs, they look stupid. Good that you decided not to approve those articles. Also, there are so many topics that one can write on, social media for instance, why do they keep choosing SEO when they got no idea about how it works... especially when they don't even bring anything new or valuable to the table...
    • Hesham says:
I agree, and I see that ezine articles will never find it's way to blogs! We are open here to many topics, and I just ask for one simple important thing to get any post approved, this thing is to put your own "personal experience" with blogging , SEO, or general internet business in your post, give me ONE working and new tip of yours and build your post around it, but don't push 100 tips that everybody knows! Thanks your comment!
  6. Jenn says:
Lol! It's tough to get good new content! I keep searching for an easy way to get good guest posters on my blog, but it's not an easy process!
    • Hesham says:
Hi Jenn, Yes this takes a lot of time and effort, it's not easy to find good quality content for our blogs! So, good luck with that!
  7. Val says:
Hi Hesham, I have discovered your site today, and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of guest posts. Now I understand why. You simply do not accept anything less than excellent. What impresses me most is how you manage to attract enough good authors to keep this going. Can you share the secret? What is the main thing that keeps them coming back with more articles? Backlinks? Click-through traffic? Something else? I have spent several hours here today, learned several new ideas and added a few items to my TODO list. Many thanks to you and all the authors. Keep on the good job!
    • Hesham says:
Hi Val, There is no big secret, but I can say (from feedback).. The most thing that keeps bloggers guest posting here is the community and conversation, as people really discuss and share ideas in the comments, and it's cool way to get in touch with each other. P.S. I notice your activities on the blog and your comments today, and glad you to have you!
      • shanker bakshi says:
Yes, thats a condition, you shouldn't publish all what comes in your way, guest post screening is very important.
  8. Jack Harold says:
Seriously, you shouldn't be compromising on poor content on your blog as your reputation (as well as the guest blogger's) is at stake. A good blog has to be good right from the start and that should be maintained throughout the life cycle! Kudos to you for maintaining that spirit!
    • Hesham says:
Hi Jack, Thank you for your input, I appreciate it! Oh.. Well.. Nothing is perfect! But we try our best to keep it good as our readers expect from us!
  9. Lucian Apostol says:
Can you give an example of "something new or at least a fresh cool idea" that you would write an article about ?
    • Hesham says:
Good question but if I tells you my new ideas here, then it won't be new anymore :) (just kidding) I personally do some stuff like this: - I try to develop something that actually doesn't exists and I know that someone out there need to have it, then blog about it! E.G. Thesis Skin Option Panel! (by the way this is how I can make the #1 of first page of Google! Google it and see!) - I try to find a new product, or at least something interesting in a product that gets the attention and I buy, I make a demo for it, I test it, and then I blog about it, E.G. OptimizePress Wordpress Theme (by the way, this is how I make money! Also Google it, and find my post on the first page!) - Another things comes into my mind is to write about one point in details that no body thought about it, and not write about 100 tips that everybody knows about it! I rarely now read other marketing, blogging tips, seo blogs... I try to write simply from my own thoughts and experience! I hope this will help!
      • Lucian Apostol says:
Thank your for your detiled response, but I also think that sharing some a strategy that a lot of people ignore is a good subject for an article about seo.
        • Hesham says:
Thank you Lucian , Maybe I am worried more that I should be ;)
  10. Shaukat Ameen says:
When it comes to writing as a Guest Author, it is commonly said that you should write for the other blog as though you are writing for your own blog. I say, write even better. It's just like paying a visit to someone - You always dress up and don't wear your ordinary clothes (some may disagree, but normally we do). The same way when you write on someone else's blog, your content must be really good and stand-out (at least try). I find it amazing that some people teach how to make thousands as a blogger where they themselves have been blogging for a few weeks only or may be months. This is definitely not right. I hope it gets better for you in the future after this post, Hesham.
    • Hesham says:
Shaukat, I totally agree with your points! it's exactly they way I see it and I would love it to be!
  11. TJ McDowell says:
I'm actually curious how you determine which guest post to publish when you do publish one. Is it just the next one in line and you work your way through like a queue? Sorry you had so many low-quality guest posts to look through man.
    • Hesham says:
Yes, I usually go by order trying to be fair enough and don't park posts for long time! But recently all this poor writing thing and old ideas makes me think twice and keep it for latter (maybe some occasion or event that will fit publishing this particular post), and latter sometimes never comes!
  12. John says:
Haha! Good for you for not just throwing up some filler material. I've bee meaning to get my "guest post" on but I would want to make sure I'm not just regurgitating the same bullet points I've seen over and over. If I couldn't bring something new to the table or some fresh take on an existing tip then I wouldn't bother cluttering up the internet with it. This post does have a lot of value, indeed. Peace!
    • Hesham says:
I am trying my best john, and I can not deny that at the beginning I was so open to publish because I really wanted to help bloggers to move on, but in this level I feel some how the responsibility of teaching them how to do it better rather than just publish whatever!
  13. Mani Viswanathan says:
Yay, I have encountered Guest Posts which are like completely based on the name of the niche, like "How tech can change your life" Such posts are wtf posts (seriously).
    • Hesham says:
      I agree Mani!
  14. Vivek Parmar says:
have to agree every blogger try to write on making money online and seo even if they didn't know about it and doesn't get anything yet but still copycating goes on. And indian bloggers are too good in doing this
    • Hesham says:
I hope people learn before they write up something!
  15. Jarret says:
Yeah Hesham, I understand what it's like. Guest posts can vary widely in quality. I got burned a few days ago. I check nearly all of the guest posts that I publish with Copyscape premium--unless its a regular contributor whom I trust. A few days ago I accepted a guest post request from an Internet savvy writer. The article was very well-written and I was in a rush, so I didn't Copyscape check it. My guest posting terms are pretty clear and I rarely find duplicate post submissions anymore. While surfing the web a few days later, I actually saw the same article on another site that I read regularly! It had been published there in November, sigh. I guess all that I can do now is no-index and no-follow the post.
    • Hesham says:
Hey Jarret, my friend.. I am sure you know now -after passing through guest blogging management experience- that managing guest posts is not an easy job and it takes a lot of your time! This is really annoying! it happens to me several times, this is why I always check before publishing especially from someone who I don't know! I want to edit my guest posting terms and add a nice line to it, this line probably will tell the blogger about removing his/her link luv from the post if they valuate terms at any time. This will include replying to comments in case someone didn't show up after publishing the post, and haven't reply to comments and interact with them! Maybe soon I will hire some one to take care of these issues so I can clear my mind and be able to work for real :)
  16. DiTesco says:
What? Holly is giving you a hard time. Holly, give the man a break, lol. Well my friend it seems that you got the conversation rolling here. In my opinion guest posting is about everything, and that includes building relationship, exposure and more. Considering the nature of your website, I guess that in a way, you always risk that "some" won't follow your guidelines and will always try to sneak in something that is of little value and adds virtually nothing. Rejecting them is part of your responsibilities towards your readers and visitors. Maybe you can ask someone to help you moderating guest post. Let me know if I can be of any help. I'll find a way :) Keep doing what you are doing my friend...
    • Holly Jahangiri says:
Why, DiTesco. The first rule of Fight Club... I really need to rent that movie. LOL FINE. Got someone else I should pick on, instead? :)
      • DiTesco says:
Nope. I think you are fine just where you are, considering that Hesham is having a good time with all this, lol. Now seriously, you have provided some real valid points and they should all be seriously given attention to.... Fight Club movie? You have not seen it yet? I watched it in the beginning but never really finished it. Came to the conclusion that I don't like BP, haha
    • Hesham says:
Haha.. I am actually having a lot of fun reading comments! Thank you so much for the great input here DiTesco We will have a lot of fun editing and promoting during the contest, so no need to rush, it's going to be a lot of work :)
      • DiTesco says:
No rush Bud, just extending a helping hand should you need it. I know that the contest will take a lot of time and effort and although this is the case, I can't wait to get it started ;-)
  17. Sujith says:
Quality comments and hot discussions can make a blog unique. A small provocative post of Hesham really created some buzz ..
    • Hesham says:
Hi Sujith, I've learned that the long of your post is not what makes it great! It could be one line straight to the point! Here I was trying to send a message! Thank you for stopping by!
  18. Pete Carr says:
Hi Hesham, I honestly think that guest posting has been hyped up to much. People are told by the blogging "Gurus" to get out and promote their blog by guest posting. Yes guest posting is important for the Blog owner and the blogger, it is about self promotion, but it is also about giving value to the blogs readers that the guest post is on. I am not too sure whether a public attack is needed or not, but it is your Blog. So you do have the right to say yes or no, and also to write this post. Now, it's Christmas lets enjoy each others blogs and welcome the New Year and all that it brings with it. Thanks Hesham. Pete
    • Hesham says:
Hi Pete, Guest posting is a revolution in the blogging, branding and marketing world, and yes it's recommended by most gurus, but people still do it wrong! I didn't really want to sound like attaching, but you know this feeling when you really appreciate someone and you want him/her to be the best, I believe that our guest bloggers and community is the best in the world, and I want them to feel it for real, it shouldn't be fake! Yes.. it's Christmas time :) so... Happy Christmas Pete to you and your beloved ones! Talk again soon!
  19. Pavithra says:
Its clear that you like to give good articles to your reader. Thanks .Advance x-mas wishes dude.
    • Hesham says:
I am trying to do my best Pavithra, thank you for stopping by! Happy Christmas!
  20. Kharim says:
If I was you and I got guest posts like that I wouldn't be publishing and guest post either. Guest bloggers need to take time to develop a good post if they are going to be using it as a guest article. Write the best and write as if you were writing for your own blog.
    • Hesham says:
I can not agree with you more Kharim, thanks man!
  21. Daniel Sharkov says:
Hi Hesham, Choosing not to post a new guest article instead of adding mediocre stuff is definitely the right decision. After all when it comes to content, quality always wins over quantity. It seems like that some individuals' only motive of submitting an article is to get one or two backlinks. Of course there's nothing bad in getting those links if you can give something in return - quality content in this case. It's the same thing as with blog commenting. Doing it just for the sake of getting a link is just an abuse of the system.
    • Hesham says:
Daniel, it's a hard decision for me, although I still have a few other posts pending for review that I haven't got a chance to read them yet! I've just decided to close the shop today :)
  22. Ben Johnson says:
You are right here, no one is interested to share useful information, every one is trying to sell their products by using same as old content. In-fact I am also bound to write for my company's products and services. Every one is doing the same thing, of-course we blog for publicity of our product but we should find write in a creative and informative ways for sure, so authority blogger can publish the content without any hesitation. I always try to keep these points in my mind when writing a guest post that for whom I am writing for and how to pitch the services in an informative way. Merry Christmas to all :)
    • Hesham says:
I really admire your writing and your work Ben, you are a good example for guest blogging success on this blog, it has a great connection for real, and I wish all people do the same as you are doing! Awesome man! Merry Christmas :)
  23. Kevin says:
I've been thinking hard where my 1st guest post will be. I've been following FB for almost two weeks now and I feel that I can connect with a lot of the readers here. Yeah I agree about your thoughts on SEO. It's a hard topic to write about because all the information out there is the same. There's no right or wrong answer because it such a vast topic. That was a good vent! :)
    • Hesham says:
Yes Kevin, you can connect with a lot of people and have more powerful connection with other bloggers by guest posting here on FamousBloggers with no doubt! Yes.. SEO is not for everyone! So.... be careful with that buddy :) Give me one bloody awesome tip that you think not all people knows about it, and don't give 100 tips that everybody knows ;)
      • Kevin says:
Yep! People want something they don't already know. My 1st guest post won't be about SEO :) I don't want to talk about it especially when I need help on the same topic.
  24. Alex says:
I think it is important for all bloggers to check the quality of the guest posts like you do., I think it is important for the guest posters too to understand that a blog post/article should be worthy too be posted. Sometimes the writers write articles only with the motive to get a link back and do not provide any knowledge at all to the readers of the blog. Publishing such articles can certainly hurt the reputation of the blog
    • Hesham says:
Hi Alex , Building a readership requires good content and networking! And, well.. you are an SEO expert as it seems from your website, and probably you know a lot about backlinks :) Anyways, I just want to let you know that even bad content if published on this blog will never hurt it that much as I think this blog passed this level already, So.. What I think is bad content will hurt the author in particular more than the blog! (just my opinion) Thank you for stopping by, and be careful with Keyword Luv ;)
  25. Pritam says:
Its better not to publish any post the publishing a useless guest post. I am happy that you value your readers to provide them with valuable contents.
    • Hesham says:
Yeah, it's a good idea to close the shop today :) Thank you Pritam , we all try to do our best, and I want my blog readers to have the best!
  26. Isabel Rodrigues says:
Great to see you care of quality and just quantity. No wonder I like visiting your blog.
    • Hesham says:
I just don't want to lose readers who enjoy the blog like you Isabel , I want my fellow bloggers to learn faster and get smart! I hope this will reach to a wide range of them!
  27. Maria says:
I agree that being invited to guest post on someone's blog is an honor and should be treated as such. Lately, I have been guest posting a lot and am currently scheduled to post in a series about Executive Image. Since I am a teacher, I would like to put it in this perspective, you should not attach your name or your brand on anything that you are not proud of. Having said that, I would like to throw it out there that I would love to do a guest post on your blog. Let me know if you are interested...
    • Hesham says:
Hi Maria, Of course I am interested, I respect people of education and I am sure you will create a great piece of content for our readers! Plz, hit the Guest Post button, and be my guest whenever you have time, you are more than welcome Maria.
  28. Patricia says:
Hi Hesham Way to go :-) thankyou for having the courage to NOT post rubbish! You have a well-respected blog and are respected amongst the blogging community. You are also very generous with allowing newbies to guest post who would not get the opportunity on many other sites. When I GP I make sure it is quality and I work hard when the GP is published. Answering comments promptly and encouraging my own loyal readers to visit the blog owner's site. I don't believe it should be about self promotion. When I GP it is to give kudos to the blog owner's site and if then some of their readers want to visit my site that's a bonus. That's my thinking and I have enjoyed both my GP experiences. The blog owners were happy with my efforts and know I will continue to promote their sites. They both allowed me to add my bio to the post which I thought was generous, so people knew a little about me and my blog. That's enough self promotion in my view. Happy Christmas and a wonderful 2011 to you too Hesham. You definitely rock the blogosphere and I'm glad to have met you on my blogging journey. Patricia Perth Australia
    • Rahul says:
You are very correct Patricia when we GP we dont only think of our selves but also the owner of the blog we get into. When we post we must think that we have the best content that make the owner of the blog also proud
    • Hesham says:
I do my best Patricia, and I really appreciate bloggers who guest post here a lot because they give their best and they are the power of this blog! I got stressed sometimes not because the blog, but because those people are my friends and I care for them, and I want them to understand and get more power from blogging! Happy Christmas to you to Patricia, talk soon!
  29. Ryan Biddulph says:
Kudos to you Hesham. No sense in posting something that is.....well....senseless. I aim to post new, exceptional content each week on my blog. This is the specific reason why I'm posting weekly now. I never run out of ideas so that wasn't the problem. It was that my stuff lacked the energy that makes someone look at it and say.....Damn, that's a good post. Have a powerful day buddy! RB
    • Hesham says:
Ryan, I read almost of your content and I watch your videos or at least I hear them in the background while working, I enjoy it! Ah... You read my mind man.. I am waiting for this awesome piece of content, when I will say : That's a good one :) ?? More power to you Ryan , enjoy your Holiday!
  30. Holly Jahangiri says:
I agree with mamarolf. And I wonder what Rick and Lisa are thinking? Why wouldn't a guest poster want to promote himself? I assume you're not PAYING your guest posters - most bloggers aren't. Of course they want to promote themselves. That said, they do a poor job of it if you publish poorly written material they've submitted. But why would anyone guest post if NOT to promote themselves or get paid for their writing? This baffles me, this notion that guest posting shouldn't be about money or self-promotion, but is somehow a "privilege" requiring top-notch writing. This is why I don't write many guest posts - nor do I publish many from others. I don't understand the point, apparently. But I can take guesses as to why you're getting poor quality submissions.
    • Hesham says:
Come on Holly.. It's not about Money! They call it Guest Posting! This means I don't have to pay anyone especially those who spent 30 minutes writing a blog post that I will spend 2 hours working on promoting it, and by the way I think I should charge them for publishing content here :) Also, this is an advice... It's very clear that we all need to enhance our content, they give me no choice! I mean if someone write about only ONE TIP that really cool I will be satisfied rather than 10 tips of crap! Bloggers guest posted here knows the difference of before and after, those who do it successfully can take a lot of readers to their own blogs and make valuable relationships no matter if they are newbies or pros! I think everybody is getting poor quality submissions, and we try to pick the best of it and reject the rest, and some times I think blogging contests as a competition can help improve content this is why I organize it from time to time. Oh yeah.. There is a coming bloody contest next month ;)
      • Holly Jahangiri says:
So, Hesham, the guest posts don't earn you any money? They don't live up to your expectations? Why bother? Of course it's about money. Don't lie. And this is why everyone gets poor quality - they all want something for nothing. You want free posts, posters want free promotion and publicity, everyone wants free editing... Go read Atlas Shrugged. I'm going back to writing my little online diary. :) I'm tired of saying "blog." It still sounds like a gastrointestinal disorder.
        • Hesham says:
I can not argue with a pro writer :)
          • Holly Jahangiri says:
Of course you CAN, but I have no intention of making it EASY for you. After all, I have MY reputation to consider. ;)
    • Dan Lew says:
Some bloggers are ok with the idea of guest posting on high traffic sites for the potential traffic or click throughs they MIGHT get from their author bio. (It's a gamble) They need to do a very impressive post in order to get people to think WOW and then follow through to their own site. Guest posting is not for everyone! Its a double edged sword cause on one hand Hesham is trying to build a community and attract experienced writers, but on the other hand Guest blogging in my opinion is mainly for newbies trying to get recognized in the industry, so it will always be a constant battle to get the quality guest posts he needs. Sooner or later it will just turn into a numbers game, and hand pick only the very few that are quality which he is clearly already starting to do, not an easy job running a site like this in my opinion, and is it worth the money? Well that is another story and something I cannot answer! What Hesham could do is introduce a revenue sharing model on Google ads or something for more experienced guest posters? Again there is loads of options and not an easy decision. Good Luck Hesham for New year and what FB will bring you!
      • Hesham says:
Dan, I agree with you .. Guest posting is not for everyone! It's for those who can understand it! I've seen a lot of examples due managing and publishing 200+ guest posts here on the blog, so .. I didn't write this post today for fun! When a bloggers submit what I think is a good piece of content, I take care of it, I spend more time working on it, I visit his/her blog personally trying to find more relevant posts to link to, I publish it on the right time, I promote it like hell! It's.. Help me to help you! P.S. I would consider your idea about AdSense sharing revenue if I decided to keep AdSense on the blog for ever, but some how I think I will remove it in some level and it will not be a good idea if I am offering a revenue sharing! So.. I am still thinking.. thank you Dan for pointing to this!
  31. Alex says:
hahaha that's hilarious Hesham! Ok maybe not for you, but its good to see that you are keeping the quality here at FB under control. I honestly wonder where people get the gumption to share such crap?! I'd be embarrassed
    • Hesham says:
Hey Alex.. Man! We try my friend... we try! Happy Holidays
  32. mamarolf says:
I'm inclined to agree with your basic premise: guest posts shouldn't be posted unless they are interesting and well done. I'm also inclined to agree with your secondary premise: New posts should contain new information (ie: no one wants to read the same old crap over and over again). However... There are typos and grammatical errors in what you did post. And, there is almost no content. Seems to me, if you're gonna rip on your contributors for not writing something worth posting, then you shouldn't do it in a post that's not worth reading. (Not trying to be harsh, just offering up that opinion you asked for.)
    • Hesham says:
Hi Amie, I completely understand your point and appreciate your comment! You are right, I just want to let you know that English is not my first language, this is why I hired an editor, but.. probably I was stressed and I didn't give a chance for checking my post before publishing it! However we killed this discussion about Blogging Language before, you might be interested in reading it. I am not sure if you are a new visitor of or you have been here before, my content is between the lines and my readers can read it and get my point, however this is a message for guest bloggers, it's not an article or a usual blog post! I think the content should't be only in the post body, most of content exists in the comment section! The trick here is to create a conversation and get readers to interact with me, so plz come by in couple of days and see the difference! I am sure you will find a whole different story and you will get to know our blog better as we love to network! Thank you again Amie, and have a great day!

Hesham, you know I think of you as a friend, but if this rant was meant for your guest posters, perhaps it should have been an email - lest future guest posters think you're a loose cannon or an ingrate. You want free material for your blog, right? It's up to you to provide guests with clear guidelines and editorial objectives. It's up to you to enforce your standards. But posting what amounts to a public slap on the wrist to those who have submitted disappointing work that does not meet your expectations can backfire; it leaves other potential contributors thinking that perhaps YOU are also unprofessional. It might be better to keep this sort of stuff "backstage" and private.
        • Hesham says:
The most thing that I hate is to reject a blog posts, that's why I was keeping a lot of this stuff "backstage" for one year, I had to edit around 80% of content on this blog, I had to hire an editor, and my next step is to hire a copywriter, I mean what else I can do ? sell the blog? :) I can not handle it anymore as I assume that bloggers are learning, so I got shocked whenever I see a person that I know writing stuff that will hurt his reputation and no body will give him credits for it! Holly, I like those bloggers so much, they are my friends after all, and nothing will change that!
          • Holly Jahangiri says:
Now you know how major publishers feel. Guess what? Editing it is your JOB. If it's too much work, hit the REJECT button. (See enough drivel, that gets easier - even when the submitters are friends. There are only so many minutes in a life - is this how you want to spend them? If the answer is no, then don't.) There are any number of hungry writers itching for a break. Maybe you're not putting out the right bait. ;) ::gasp!!:: Maybe some of them are unaware of your blog. There is sometimes a need to promote in out of the way places, and not to always hang out with the same crowd, day after day.
            • Hesham says:
I really appreciate this advice Holly, it's better than my whole post :) You rock!
        • mamarolf says:
@ Holly - I would have preferred to "like" your post, but as that's not an option... I love what you said here! You are absolutely correct, and you said it very eloquently too. :)
          • Holly Jahangiri says:
Thanks! Hey, I'm glad I "met" you here, mamarolf. I'm enjoying your blog. Just poking around over there, but this is what makes blogs and interaction on them worthwhile.
      • mamarolf says:
I guessed that english wasn't your first language, and admire that you can post in a secondary language. Errors in spelling and grammar happen to be one of my pet-peeves. That said, we all make mistakes from time to time :). I've been following your posts for awhile (lurking quietly in the background). And for the most part, I enjoy the content. As I said, I wasn't trying to be harsh, it just seemed (to me) a waste of my time to have read that because its all so obvious; and it's also stuff you have said many times before in different ways. You have certainly gotten a conversation going, so mission accomplished ;) -Amie
      • mamarolf says:
Oh, and btw, I'd be happy to edit for you if ever you feel its needed. :)
        • Hesham says:
Ah! That's so kind of you, I appreciate your offer Have a wonderful day :)

Timely post - I had someone want to submit a guest post to a client today that actually would be the opposite of what the client would want to say. The first rule before asking permission to speak on someone else's blog - or in someone else's town, or in someone else's house, or in someone else's meeting - is to get to know the territory. That's not "blogging skills"; that's just social skills.
    • Hesham says:
Thank you David, I can feel the pain of your client :) I was asking myself, why I should publish this?! I will just not do it! P.S. I wish all people think like you do!
  34. Lisa Irby says:
Thank you for posting this. I have this same problem. And if I get one more SEO plugin post I will scream!!! Most guest post submissions I get are from people who want to promote themselves. Poor quality writing.
    • Hesham says:
Hi Lisa, People want to promote themselves, this is why they guest post, there is nothing wrong on that, the big mistake is to write about what you don't know about! I had other bloggers who blog for 2 to 4 months only, and they did an awesome guest posts just by sharing their "very simple" personal experience during the very first months of blogging! They didn't give any tips, they didn't try to show as experts, nothing! So .. Readers like them and believe in them! P.S. Glad to see you here, I am a fan of your blog and work since long time, I think 2 years now!
  35. Thomas Sinfield says:
Good to hear that you are picky with the content you allow Hesham - you need to protect the brand that you have created. Whenever I guest post, I always that my best quality comes out and I get the urge to keep the post for myself - and that should be how it is. If you are writing poor content and then sharing it on other peoples blogs, you not only have a lack of respect for what they have built - but I highly doubt you will get much of a response or flow or traffic to your blog. Merry Christmas :)
    • Hesham says:
The coming year Tom is going to be so hard for me, I can not hide that fact! Exactly as you said Tom, this is how I think about it and I can not agree more because I saw it by my own eyes! I remember my 2 guests posts has good amount or reaction because I really put my brains on them, and I never talk about something I don't know , so I prefer sharing stuff I am sure of it 100% Merry Christmas :)
  36. Rick LaPoint says:
Hi Hesham, I LOVE this post! Being allowed to post as a Guest on another's blog is a high privilege. Any Guest should put a great deal of effort into making it perfect. I certainly don't want to read the same old crap day after day. And I don't post a lot on my own site, because I don't want to write the same old crap day after day. Thank you for having the guts to tell it like it is :-) Rick
    • Hesham says:
Hey Rick, Yes my friend, I think I am suffering from the same problem :) I don't want to read any crap or something I already know about! I now know why some pages are closed once a visitor open it in 10 seconds!
