10 Ideas For Topics Your Business Can Blog About

April 6, 2011 - Last Modified: February 10, 2025 by Nile Flores 1,447

Business Topic Ideas

I get a lot of questions from clients about many things, but when it comes to blogging, I find the number of questions business owners have about blogging almost overwhelming. A lot of them revolve around what kinds of topics to blog about. A lot of businesses have found that blogging has helped their company’s brand and search-ability. In case I come across a client who does not blog, I ask them if they might consider it and state all the reasons to do so.

I want to say that if you are a business owner, at least try it out. In most cases, you can blog at minimum once a week, and that just gives your site a little boost on fresh content. The other important thing I must share is that if you do not know much about your business, you probably either need to hire someone who can blog for you or learn more about your niche.

Blogging is not just about getting content out there. There are loads of bloggers out there who lack quality. Blogging is about branding yourself to be unique, influential, and most of all, professional in your niche business.

In case you are an ace at blogging but have fallen into a “Blogger’s Block,” here are 10 Ideas For Topics Your Business Can Blog About:

1. Case Studies

Whether you are a business that sells products or some type of service, case studies are really fun for your customers to read and a great way for them to get to know your company’s thought process. It shows what type of work you have done or what products you sell and also what kinds of solutions you provide. This could also be something to tie in with customer service type businesses where you can create a scenario based on an actual study and share how the problem was solved.

2. How Your Business Operates

While you do not have to always divulge how your business might ship a product or perhaps answer customer concerns, it is always nice. People still get suspicious of buying online. They want to know if the company they are buying from seems reputable when they visit. While you can have a company policy, privacy policy, terms of service, and any other types of legalese pages, sometimes reassuring your clients by talking about how you go about conducting your business really helps.

3. Company News

Company news topics are nice to see. If you are a small business with a few employees and have a couple events, it is nice to see human interaction by covering employee events. Of course, you do not want to go overboard and share who got drunk in front of everyone, but you can definitely share some of the highlights of these company get-togethers. Your clients get to see more than just an email from you. They can connect with seeing pictures of those who make your business happen.

Other company news could be changes in board and other policies. Please note, use your discretion when writing company news and if something confidential should not be posted, be smart and refrain from posting info your customers probably do not need to know.

4. News In Your Niche

This one is not one that businesses always think about covering. In fact, it is overlooked quite a lot and should not be. Covering news in your business’s niche can be a way to build some back links and build some nice relationships with others in your field. It is also a way to flex both your knowledge and your client’s knowledge about the way your niche works.

You might try a weekly roundup of links, or possibly writing an article about a topic and linking back to similar articles that have also covered the same thing.

5. Related Products Or Service Recommendations To Your Business

There are always going to be businesses out there that do what you do, or even have a few more things that you do not. You might like to do price comparisons, or if the product is slightly different, do a product comparison.

This is also a good time to break out those affiliate marketing products from your biz friends that you really stand behind.

6. Special Interest Articles

You might go to conferences that are related to your niche and rub elbows with someone who is well known and might give you a few words to carry on to others. You might even be able to get an interview out of them. This could also apply to meeting online too, but the special interest articles give your site an interesting kick because it can only be found at your site.

7. Fun Shares That Are Related To Your Business

Got a good story related to what your company does? Maybe you have an office cat who is just adorable? Or maybe there was an office related comic strip that pretty much seems so much like what you experience with your business? Just like special interest articles, these little fun shares make your company unique.

Of course, you do not want to look like a business that is lazy and not doing your job, but really, some shares only take a few moments to post,.

8. Polls

Feedback is important to any business. It could be a survey on how your customers like a new brand you decided to use and sell. It could be a poll on what your customers think of your service. Customer service surveys are another great way to gauge satisfaction and identify areas for improvement. Polls usually do not take much time and are quick ways to produce feedback your company really needs.

9. Videos On Product or Service Demonstrations

A lot of people can probably admit to being very visual. Video blogging might require a little more effort, but it certainly adds a dynamic touch to any blog. It could be a product or service demonstration. It could be a review. Do not forget to write out at least a paragraph with your video to help optimize it a little more for search engines.

10. Detailed Focus On Your Own Products or Services

This is a HUGE ordeal I see not happening on a lot of business sites. There is no focus on specific products or services. Stop avoiding your products! Talk about them! It is not spam if you are actually talking about your products or services.

How can your customers or even potential customers know what you are trying to sell, especially if you are also marketing on Facebook and Twitter? It is one thing to just share the link to your individual products, and another to actually write about it. This actually helps your website’s search-ability! Not “might”, but it DOES!

Now that I have shared with you 10 ideas for topics your business can blog about, go and blog!

For those who love to brainstorm, what other types of topics can be covered by businesses who do not know what to blog about?

Great ideas! Keep in mind that which of these suggestions you implement will depend on your audience. If you're doing case studies for other professionals in your industry, your clients may not care too much. Just be careful where you invest your time because you may be providing useful information to the wrong people.
    • Nile says:
There are ways to implement all of these for a lot of niche. You just have to know who your clients are, remember the questions and concerns they have, know what is being asked out there on the competition or on the social network sites, and put together an article. Sounds like a recipe....lol
  2. Mani Viswanathan says:
I always had this question in my mind, on what to blog when we open an exclusive blog for a company. Thanks Nile for listing out the points.
    • Nile says:
No problem Mani. I always recite this list from my mind, now that I have published it here, it makes less talking, and more engaging with my clients. :D
  3. Kavya Hari says:
Blogging is nothing but to share our own ideas, views and share knowledge on the blog post. And, it should be high quality content. Thank you so much for written your post on here :)
    • Nile says:
Thanks for coming by and reading Kavya.... definitely blogging is a good way to share opinions, information, and more. :)
  4. John says:
Hi Nile, All the points you mentions in this post are really useful while writing content for any business blog. I think you can add one additional point in this list - Guest Post . We can invite visitors to write post for us about product or current trends and updates for industry.
    • Nile says:
Businesses might enjoy a guest post from time to time, but with all the spam going on in the guest posting community to get back links to places even outside a site's niche, it kind of detracts from what the company is trying to sell. Unless the guest poster is truly happy with just having an author profile and use that to share a link with their keywords, it might be better... and far more transparent. A plus for any company's or website's business.
  5. Jitendra Singh says:
All these are very common topics and one must use them in blogging if they really want to promote their business by mean on online.
    • Nile says:
Unfortunately, despite that they are general topics, when you are talking to a newbie blogger, and even more so, a business that is taking on blogging, they normally have questions on what to blog about. They are not like the awesome people in the blogging community that keeps on top of what should be done to be a better blogger or even a better business. As a web designer and developer, this list can help eliminate those questions and put a base for what should be covered on their blog. :D Thank you for stopping by and commenting!
  6. Jody urquhart says:
Actually writing about your products is a good idea. These blog posts have leverage because you can use them as links on other pages and help move people through the sales cycle
    • Nile says:
It is unfortunate that I do not see this going on as much as it should. While I do know business owners and even bloggers fear becoming a spammer, the information on their products is not unwanted and not off topic. Now, when actually writing about it, that is the key to making it sound no so spammy...lol. ;) Thanks for reading and commenting!!!
  7. Tinh says:
Polls can give us a great idea for blogging with evidence that convinces our readers too :-)
    • Nile says:
Definitely... polls are extremely useful for marketing. :D Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
      • Tinh says:
You are welcome, i love this article too :-)
  8. Dennis Edell says:
Luckily I've never had the block, and don't see it coming any time soon. I have hundreds of ideas in my arsenal. All good ideas. I'd save some f them though as info for my client/customer list only. Kinda like a, an insiders perk for being on my list.
    • Nile says:
I just needed a good place to publish my personal list I normally recite off the top of my head...so definitely I will be sharing this link too with clients...lol. Thank you for coming by and reading, Dennis!
  9. Chandan says:
Yes each and every blog should have a particular aim like for which purpose the blogger will be blogging. When I started my blog I only wrote article on my blog within my niche, but there was nothing any particular aim of my blogging. So it is better that if you are going to blog first choose the purpose of your blog and the do blogging.
    • Nile says:
Having a focus is important. However, even after having a focus on your site, putting together topics can be a real challenge after some time. Hopefully this general list of 10 can help any company produce hundreds of topics.
  10. Davis says:
Hey Nile, Out of the 10 great ideas, I missed on the 'Funshare related to my business' thanks to you. I'm going to start working on it right away. This one point made me realize that by sharing a funshare topic with my readers I'll be having some fun as well!! A business blog with a strong content but only about business and nothing else sounds boring too.
    • Nile says:
Yes, it does sound boring. Some companies like Izea like to share events. Actually, Automattic and WordPress are great examples of fun shares. With the WordCamps and special interest articles on different developers, or even from the history behind why a version of WordPress was named a certain way... it makes things interesting. :)
  11. Justin says:
Blogging is more personal and it allows a connection to the company or business as opposed to static sites. I am considering placing a poll on my website as well
    • Nile says:
Very true. However a lot of business owners still are not convinced or do not know what to write about. Hopefully this article helps.
  12. semmy says:

  14. Marlee says:
Hi Nile! These are solid suggestions and I'm going to be sure to point business bloggers to this post. I find that so many businesses are afraid to blog because "they don't know what to write about." Looks like you've just foiled that excuse! :)
    • Nile says:
Hi Marlee! Thanks... this is a post that has needed to be published.I get questions from business owners all the time and I am even going to point them to this post too. :D
  15. Alex says:
I think that the coolest things to blog about on a business blog is how your company can make the readers life more easy just buying your product. This does not only showcase your services but makes a compelling sales pitch, which is a win win situation in my opinion. Also, a blog is a good medium to interact with your clients or soon to be clients and build strong business relations besides social media or in the absence of it..
    • Nile says:
You are very right Alex... it does make a great sales pitch and that is always the point in the end. While you might be blogging about anything but putting a "buy now" button on your article, you are still pointing people where you want them to go.
  16. Wong Chendong aka The Bad Blogger says:
I have an offline business that does industrial gas hardware and I had a business website on the internet to promote my business around the world, at one time I thought should I blog about my business... and because I had yet to see a blog that actually blog about industrial gas hardware and because of that I never started a blog about it. Well... while reading your post, it got me an ideal of recording videos on how to really use those industrial gas hardware safely which I can actually create a blog towards my business. I never thought of video recording until I read your post, seriously I would like to thank you for sharing this 10 ideals and just 1 ideal from your post you wrote about "creating video" it strike my mind with an idea I never thought of... And I'm going to be busy preparing for this great idea.... Thanks... talk soon...
    • Nile says:
That is a good idea for your industrial gas biz. Like I always say- anything within your niche is good material to share on your company's blog. :D
  17. gautam hans says:
Hey, I think it is a must have for small businesses to have blogs. These blogs should be a way to build better relations with the customers and show a more personal side of your company. Sharing useful information about your niche will help you gain traffic as well as build authority which will result in more sales
    • Nile says:
Definitely! It is just like when you go into a store and strike up a conversation with the store associate. Sometimes you walk away impressed and in the case you are actually the one sharing info, they just learned something they can share with other clients. Pretty cool, huh? :D
  18. Atulperx says:
You must always stay updated and know the latest info about your niche . You can subscribe to top 50 to top 100 blogs related to your niche and keep tracking them . You can also set a google alert for specific keywords and stay update with latest use of them .
    • semmy says:
Hi Atulperx. I love your complement. I usually do subscribe 10 tops blog on my niches. I think I'll try to use google alert. Thank you very much for your info.
    • Nile says:
That is always a good idea, but staying subscribe and sharing it on your site are two different things. Making that extra effort to bring those articles to your readers who are interested in your products and what you have to share makes your business all the more well rounded.
  19. AJ Clarke says:
Great suggestions Nile. I especially think the "case studies" option is awesome. It's a perfect way to show your potential customers that you are a guru in the field and what you have to offer. I think the issue is that a lot of companies do not write consistently on their blog (maybe 1x a month or something) and many don't even have a blog! that is ludicrous. ...Nice seeing you back on FamousBloggers!
    • Nile says:
Case studies are always a great way to drive in new content. For those companies that do not have a portfolio, the case studies makes a great alternative you make a good post on the process and can even include a client testimonial. Then even aside from the blog, since the handiness of WP3.0+ menu, you can put it in the main menu and attract more customers.
  20. Wasim Ismail says:
I agree with you on the point about "News in your Niche" as if you constantly put out the latest news in your industry on your blog, you will start to build authority with your readers, and also build your readership, as others would know that your blog is the one where they can get up to date information on news within the market. Also if you're putting out news content with allot of interest, you also have a very good chance of that particular article ranking well in search engines, and your article going viral.
    • Nile says:
Exactly. :) While you might even have a roundup of articles in your niche, it definitely helps give you that extra boost with readers, clients, and even potential clients that you keep up with news in your niche.
