How to Build Multiple Streams of Online Income Using WordPress Blogs

Multiple Streams of Income? How many times have you heard that phrase? Every success coach I’ve ever listened to, every success book I’ve ever read and in every success seminar I’ve ever attended the virtues and benefits of multiple streams of income have always been eulogized.  In fact they have made us to believe that without multiple streams of income you can never really create wealth that will amount to anything.

I agree with them. Totally!

That is why right from day one of my venturing online my desire and drive was to, as much as possible, seek out ways that would help me build multiple streams of online income. I discovered right from the onset that building websites focused on various niche markets was the best way of achieving this. I did this for some time before I started building blogs.

I soon discovered however, that running a blog was a time consuming task. Interacting with and building connections with your blog readers, promoting your blog on social networking sites and many other tasks involved with blogging demands a whole lot of time and effort. Soon enough most of my niche sites where abandoned in my bid to concentrate on my blog. Not quite too long I discovered that the revenue from the blog alone was nothing to be proud of. So I soon went searching for some other ways of building multiple streams of income that will still allow me focus on my blogging activities.

WordPress Blogging Platform Offered A Perfect Choice!

After trying different options I was able to pick out a few ways any one can easily build multiple streams of income on the net. As a blogger who have used the wordpress platform for some time I can truly say that by using the wordpress blogging platform you can build multiple niche sites and put this powerful wealth building principle of multiple streams of income to your advantage.

But you will be wondering: if running one blog is time consuming then how do you run multiple sites and still be able to do it effective?

Just hold on and let me show you just 3 ways you can do this using the wordpress blogging platform to build multiple streams of online income.

Strategy #1: Build Static Niche WordPress Blogs

One of the very first ways I discovered for multiple streams of online income through wordpress blogs is to build static niche blogs. These are blogs set up just like static websites. Once they are set up you don’t need to regularly update them.  Here is a simple guide to building static niche sites with wordpress.

>>> Decide On Your Target Niche – of course every niche marketing strategy must start with you knowing which niche market you want to target. If you still don’t know how to research niche markets then read tutorials on researching profitable niche markets. You will find a truck load online!

>>> Create Your Content – because you’ll be targeting many markets that you know nothing about, it is a wise choice to either join PLR sites where you can have an on-going supply of content for your sites or hire freelance writers.

>>> Purchase A Domain Name And Webhost – make sure your domain name is search engine optimized. You can do this by simply buying a domain name that has the keywords of your target market.

>>> Install Your WordPress Blog And Optimize It With The Right Plugins – If you are already using a wordpress blog this shouldn’t be a problem to you.

>>> Load Up Your Content – you can load all of them at once as pages instead of posts or schedule them to post over a few days or weeks. If you load your content as pages you will need to set up your link structure. This is done the same way you set up links on your blog but instead of the links pointing to outside sites they point to your pages. And if you set them up as post then instead of showing your sidebar as “recent posts” simply edit it to read “Featured Articles” or something similar.

>>> Create A Page For Your Home Page – this will be your welcome page. You should optimize it for the search engines. This page is to act as a pull for your site visitors to read more of your articles.

>>> Take Your Welcome Page And Make It Your Home Page – this is done in your admin dashboard. From Settings – Reading and from the options of whether to display recent post or a static page, chose static page and then select the page you’ve created as you home page.

With this strategy you could easily build multiple niche blogs dominating various niche markets.

However, there are a few challenges. These include:

(i) Creating articles for the various niche sites. Of course you cannot be a master of all the markets you’re targeting. So trying to come up with the articles yourself is practically impossible. The way out of this is to either use freelance writers or join a good PLR site where you’re provided with quality articles every month.

(ii) The second challenge is that of generating traffic. I’ve discovered that this is one of the greatest challenges. Static wordpress blogs do not have the kind of favour that regularly updated wordpress blogs have with the search engines. And so search engine optimization (seo) strategies alone will not do for traffic generation. In conjunction with other traffic generation methods you’ve been using as a blogger you will need to invest in pay per click advertising.

Strategy #2: Build Automated WordPress Blogs

I must say that I’m not a good fan of this strategy. Reason is I believe in fresh and original content for blogs. However, I have discovered lately that more and more content auto generating software are being released into the market. Having observed how various bloggers are using these software I have the idea that setting up niche blogs using these software could be more productive actually.

The concept is simple. Do your research and decide on the niche you want to target. Buy a domain name and hosting. Set up your blog using the content auto generating software. Use keywords to target the content wanted. Monetize your blog and then drive traffic to your niche blog.

Now ever I’ve been nursing the idea of using auto content generating software for this strategy for sometime now. Though I’ve never really used it but I’m still convinced that it will be profitable one. Maybe someone out there will want to experiment with it. I will be glad to hear of the results. And remember to give the credit when those results come pouring in!:)

Strategy #3: Build Niche Article Directories Using WordPress

Holy Cow! I fall in love with this strategy the very day the idea came into my head. Not quite long ago I came upon Article Directory which comes both as a wordpress theme and plugin. It helps you to easily set up your own article directory. Here is an example of an article directory that I recently set up using article directory in a matter of minutes.

After experimenting with Article Directory I realized that this could be a powerful solution to some of the challenges of the other two strategies above. The set up is simple. It can be done in a matter of minutes. You get fresh content on a regular basis. And traffic is assured once the directory gets established.

However, instead of accepting articles in all categories you could build a niche article directory. Restrict the articles to a particular niche and very soon you’ll be dominating that niche with fresh unique content. The search engines will love your directory and rank it high for the target niche. Once the traffic builds up think of ways of monetizing it and you have a cash pumping machine in your hands. Like I said this simply removes the challenges of the other two strategies.

So there you have it, the 3 simple strategies that can help you build multiples streams of online income. Of course there are many others. I think building multiple streams of online income is becoming much easier by the day. You can only be limited by your imagination. But why don’t you try these ones out.

    Great strategy Chadrack. Interesting point about using Wordpress as an article directory. It is actually a great script for this purpose as you can set up categories and publish nich articles as you mentioned. One of the most pronounced advantages of Wordpress as an article directory script is it virtually unlimited scaling ability. We are walking the same path, my friend. Keep up the good work. Mark

    Thanks Chadrack. I like the idea of creating a niche article directory because if you require a reciprocal link back, it could end up becoming an authority site for that niche.. which could be very good. You could then use that directory to launch other sites quickly by linking to them in the sidebar or footer. Awesome ideas, all 3 :)

    You are letting it sound way easier than it is, Chadrack - but I do agree with you on a few things, especially that blogging takes severe time from your schedule. No one millions of people that start blogging don't proceed with it until they get to where they wanted to be or until there where they reap at least one or the other similar success. I do disagree with you. Or partially agree with you. I would say stick to building only one site concentrating on one niche. And whenever you can succeed with that single one you can go and reap more money off of others.

    It is great that you found a good strategy, specifically your third one, to further reduce working on the web. Thanks also for sharing it with us. Automation appeals much in any legitimate online business because it simplifies many tasks. Of course there are challenges working online and there might be a lot of work but it becomes lesser in time when using the right strategies.

    I think that the strategy to have mentioned here about building niche article directory, is one very good strategy for the blogger who have not much time for blogging. I am also thinking for build such a article directory. But I am confused how to optimize such a article directory and how to maintain the directory.

      Actually it is the ease of set up that has drawn me to it. There are various themes and plugins you can use. When you visit the article directory I link to in the article you will see an example of how to do this. There is also the link at the footer where you can download the same theme. Both the plugin and theme are free to download.

    If you do follow through with the Automated Wordpress thing, just make sure you aren't pulling content from someone's rss feed and displaying the full article on your blog. Duplicate content issues could arise. I bet you know that already ;-)

      Duplicate content? As much as the issue of duplicate content is something all of us are against but it beats me blue that many of us has fallen for the duplicate content "MYTHS". What are web directories for? What are article directories doing on the internet? Are all these not about pulling content from other sites and aggregating them? There is so much many of us have to learn about what duplicate content really means! Let's us not just go about parroting others. I've written and submitted the same article to different articles and when I search on google for the title of that article the results comes in from the different article directories. It shows google indexed all of them. Where is the issue of your understanding of duplicate content?

    Sorry, bad PLR and especially auto-blogs is exactly what's wrong with the SERPS today. They can almost be called THE reason there is so much crap in search. Sure; great for the marketer building them as money makers, BUT, the 'net exists for "regular people" to search for answers to their questions - these crap sites do not give that; in fact more often then not, the info is just plain wrong so the searcher is screwed. It's not about you (the marketer), not even a little bit. It's about providing useful content for the searcher.

    In the beginning you gave up on niche sites due to too much time in promoting. Fair enough. Then BAM #1 is discussing niche blogs; same promotional techniques. Niche sites, static HTML or Blog should essentially be "set and forget" - What differences have you found?

      Never gave up niche marketing. Only turned to blogging with the increasing popularity of blogs. But then my niche marketing sites were neglected because of more attention to my blog. After realising what was happening and taking some time to do some research I discovered I can do something similar using the wordpress platform. Now I find this more flexible and easier in setting up. Frankly with this system I can use a couple of hours to set up niche site and get it indexed on the search engines.

    All methods are great and they work well provided it is set up properly. Automated content is also good provided that at the very least the content being generated are useful and not plain "crap". Duplicate content here in my view is not an issue because all in all, it is really other niche sites and specifically tailored to make money and not to provide "killer" content and building a community. For this there is your main blog and one that should be completely unique, original and useful to users

    Thank you for the post Chadrack :) Duplicate content automatically generated content is not a good idea. The reason is that google hates this trick and only supports fresh content (which is quite sensible). If you do that, your website will not be found in search engine results and you will lose pagerank really fast. Moreover, it can lead to the ban of an adsense account. Stay away for these schemes and only produce new and real value in order to be appreciated by a community and harvest the deeds.

    Chadrack, Although I appreciate the multiple niche/blog angle, I must say, that for newbies, this might not be manageable. Multiple income streams can be achieved with one blog, and have multiple revenue generation models. For example, text ads, affiliate ads, leads for your services, training materials and products sales (just to name a few). It's important that bloggers focus on a main niche or industry and figure how to make money from that. Not always easy, but if one idea fails, another can work. Instead of splitting your attention across niches you might not be interested in at all. I love the Article Directory suggestion using WP, as long as it doesn't turn into an article sewer full of garbage. Thanks for the thoughts...I will be back for more.

      The 3 methods revealed in this article are actually set-and-forget-it blogging ideas. You don't have to continuously update the sites. You can focus your attention on your regular blog while still running these sites. On your idea of using one blog as a multiple stream of income, you'd just shown that that is not possible when you said, "It’s important that bloggers focus on a main niche." Because your blog is focused on just one niche means you can only promote products and services geared towards that niche. And if you would include all those monetization strategies you mentioned your blog will become nothing but advertising brochure and you know what your readers will make of that! :) Any way, thanks for your comment.

        Chadrack, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment. Your point is well taken. It's probably not a good idea to dump all these monetization methods on one site. And that's not what I'm suggesting. Some creativity is needed to find a good balance...and hopefully one that reaps maximum revenues without turning users off. If a site owner can effectively drive targeted traffic to these various niche sites, then I can see how your suggestion becomes plausible. Perhaps you could expand on this and give some ideas for marketing, besides PPC. As that can be expensive for any person or company. Especially if they manage the campaigns badly. ok...that's it...thanks

    Chadrack, your article is interesting one. I agree & disagree with Automated Blogging point at same time. If you have multiple niches, then one should go for automated blogging. Cuz u r right , one can't be expert in all niches. But if you have single blog in your area of interest, then invest your max. capability in it and avoid automation.

        Chadrack, i support method No.2 only in case where you have some profitable niche but have no expertise. Then you shall go for automated blog. Other wise there is no comparision of original content with republishing.

    I remember using automated blog strategy but unfortunately it didn't work well especially with the feedback from the readers. I guess that some readers could detect that 'automated sense' in the site. However I love your idea of creating niche article directory with Wordpress. That sounds awesome and practical plus it will attract more writers to write and readers at the same time. The only thing is we have to put a lot of effort to optimize it so both writers and readers will be encouraged to contribute in the discussion. Thanks for the tips pal =p

    Nice post man. I have to disagree with point 2 "Build Automated Wordpress Blogs". For some reasons i will be not going to use automated... and Here are reasons why i will be not going to use automated Wp blogs: 1. They can cause high serer load. 2. No one going to visit that blog again. 3. Automated blogs are just copy of others. 4. You can't add your voice (as Murlu said). .....! ! Anyways, other tips are awesome ;).     Sounds to me you have described how to build a site with relatively good traffic, but what about the actual money making part? You mentioned "you will need to invest in pay per click advertising", and in this article seems to me that is the only line that involves actual revenue. Are you implying one automatically makes money once they have websites with good traffic? If so they could just buy the traffic, but maybe you can suggest how to actually monetize the traffic?

      Monetization? Of course that will be through affiliate programs. I never thought of going into all that since as bloggers I'm sure we all know about blog monetization. Any way I think you've just brought some idea for another blog post! :)

Most revenue generation programs seems to have a certain traffic requirement so I think the ideas here are good start for newbies like me.     Yeah, I can't say I'm a fan of #2 just because it doesn't add the blog owners voice and many of these automated blogs seem to pollute the internet. I do enjoy niche blogging though. If you have a great idea that could spawn into its own blog, a niche blog is perfect for that. The welcome page will be great, I think I'll try it on one of mine :) #3 is interesting as well but you'd have to make sure it's a functioning directory, not just an automated blog ya know? Although it is a really interesting idea to use it to highlight blogs that may not be getting nearly enough exposure as they deserve.

    I'm not a fan of Strategy #2 there are so many of those types of automated sites pilfering information from other blogs, they may be money makers, but they are a complete pain is the arse!
