What’s the Greatest Barrier to Your Success?

June 7, 2011 - Last Modified: June 7, 2011 by Obaidul Haque 1,653

Your Success

Success means different things to different people. For some, success is all about earning dollars. Many define success as peace of mind. Success sometimes means a healthy lifestyle. For some, success is about getting out there and proving their talent to the world. For others, success is just about being happy.

Success might mean different things. But who doesn’t want to taste success? In order to obtain success, however, we do need to cross some barriers. So, what’s the greatest barrier to success?

The biggest barrier to your success is fear. Period!

It’s the fear of failing. It’s the fear of losing money. It’s the fear of speaking in front of a large audience. It’s the fear of taking risks. It’s the fear of trying new things. Fears can be external, internal or subconscious.

Remember, every one of us has some unique characteristics of our own. That’s why no two persons can be alike. It is this uniqueness that allows us to do something great and exceptional.

Let Go of Fear

To become successful, we really need to tackle fear before it starts taking a toll on our personal and professional life. Therefore, it is vital to address those fears and get rid of them as soon as possible.

Acknowledge -> Observe -> Confront

This is in fact the most powerful formula to rid yourself of fear. First, you need to accept that you have some fears. Be ready to accept that there’s something which is preventing you from moving ahead. Next, you need to know what those fears are. Find out when those fears engulf you most. Know what kind of fears they are. Finally, you need to face them head on.

Start living in the moment, as fear is something that ‘lies in the future’. You have fears when you start thinking about what’s going to happen next. For example, when you are planning to launch a start-up, you start fearing that you will not become successful. That you’ll lose your money.

There’s no future (except to the mind).
There’s no past (except to the mind).
There’s only one moment that really matters – ‘Now’.

It’s Time to Take Action!

It’s time to stop giving in to those fears that hold you back from taking action. It’s time to experiment with your idea. Fear of failing must never be a reason not to try things.

Focus on the ‘Power of Now’. You have only one vital moment, and that is ‘Now’.

The future isn’t here yet. If you keep thinking about only failures, you’ll never be able to move ahead in life and prove yourself to the world. And even if you fail, you are simply going to learn from your experiences, which will only make you stronger and wiser.

Stand up and start taking action right away!

Failure & constantly waiting to see a return on the time & effort I put in was my biggest hurdle but I discovered something that I never knew I had all along & that was "Stick To It iveness!" We all have it in us so stick to it! I would like to share some free stuff with you all as I found this post very rewarding so thank you all. Here you'll find articles on a variety of topics, some controversial, some thought-provoking, but all excellent brain food!

Laziness in guest posting is my greatest barrier for my success

Obaidul, you are right on the money. Fear is the most important reasons that many dreams are killed. It is why many projects are are nipped right at the idea stage. Fear of failure. Fear of criticism and even Fear of success!
  4. Delena Silverfox says:
As it says in Dune, fear is the mind-killer! The problem I run into is that facing fear is easy. Identifying it when it's being elusive is difficult! It always takes a drawn-out guessing game as I try to identify what it is that I'm avoiding. After that, it's a cakewalk! Delena
  5. Ciara Hurt says:
I must say that the biggest barrier of success is fear. We have all fears but we must face it . We should learn to work with our fears in order to be successful. Thanks for the inspiring post.

More often than not, in every endeavor that we make, there will be fear or fears that come along. I say it's all a matter of how we handle our fear. I believe that we should not get rid of our fears. Instead we must learn to live by it and take an advantage out of it. What makes the greatest barrier to success is letting ourself drown with the negativities of our fears. A blogpost by Coach Jennie at http://epiclaunch.com/love-fear/ says that becoming a successful entrepreneur requires that you learn to work with your fears and I agree so much to that.
  7. Karan says:
Refraining from taking up actions and just getting overloaded with information is one of the biggest mistakes new internet marketers do and this leads them to assuming that all markets have already been tapped.
  8. Nasrul Hanis says:
I guess you're right, Obaidul! Sometimes it's my own fear that blocked me from doing efforts for my own sake! And now it's time to fight the fear and start taking action! Thanks for the inspiration!

Yes. I dont think there are many that have quit their job, strarted from scrach on a blog giving 100% and made a living directly. I think most people use from 1-3 years from a new blog to a sucsessfull blog.I might be wrong, but thats my impression.
  10. Musthafa says:
ya, absolutely.. we should act "Now" and shouldn't wait for the moment.
  11. Jane says:
Yes, fear puts you down always. The best way to tackle it is to leave it unattended. Just don't bother about fear and its related thoughts. We have to move on anyway. Nice post.
    • Obaidul Haque says:
      Thanks for your comment, Jane.
  12. Riya says:
Rightly said Obaidul, Biggest barrier of success is fear. Once you start facing your fear then you can achieve your success. You might fail in first or second attempt but you will succeed on next attempt. And you'll say that I'm a successful person who has achieved what he wants to achieve.
  13. Sue says:
Couldn't agree more! I always feared a lot of things in the past, big or small. And I found the more worry about a thing more likely to happen. So, now, I try to overcome the fear, and just do the right things, and I find mostly things are going very well.
    • Obaidul Haque says:
Fear must be conquered. And you are certainly on the right path, getting rid of your fear. Best of luck!
  14. Argie Monroy says:
FEAR . I guess everyone has it whether it be a novice or an expert. Although the difference between them both is that experienced ones are more used to it rather than new ones. I guess there is no person which we can say has NO FEAR within him. Everybody does - but the glitch is that they know how to hide it and make them look fearless.
    • Obaidul Haque says:
It's not about hiding your fears from others. I believe it's about conquering your fears. You are right when you say everyone of us has fears of some kind or the other. The root cause of all fear, however, is that we have been forced to deny who we actually are. It's about time we identified our unique characteristics and proved our talents to the world. Thanks.
  15. Isha Singh says:
Yes, fear stops the success in way. If we override fear and continue the work with passion, we will definitely become successful.
    • Obaidul Haque says:
Certainly, fear is the biggest hurdle for most of the people who want to achieve success. Fear also originates due to a lack of passion. If you are really passionate about doing something, you can conquer fear easily. So, have that passion in your work. And just move on. Nothing can stop you! Thanks for your comment, Isha.
  16. Alex says:
My take on this barrier that prevents you from achieving success is that anyone can be successful but they have to do something about. Taking or not taking action is, in my opinion, the difference between those that are successful and those who are not. Of course, there are some other things like luck, planning etc. but all this are meaningful if you don't take action when you have to.
    • Obaidul Haque says:
Yes, Alex. You are right when you say that taking or not taking action is what makes the difference. But when you do you take action? And when do you not? You may not take action due to a lack of - a) money b) time c) knowledge d) FEAR Though there may be other barriers to success, the biggest of them all is 'FEAR'. If you conquer your fears, no other barriers can ever stop you.
  17. Bjorn Johansen says:
I have taken action long time ago(6 months), but when it comes to blogging it takes time to see the results. Fear stops me from doing fulltime blogging, but I play it the safe way and works as good as I can until I have the results I need to do fulltime blogging
    • Obaidul Haque says:
Hey Bjorn. Does anyone deserve to expect results without putting in their 100%? Thanks for you comment.
