3 Blogging Tips for Affiliate Marketers Who Want to Maximize their Earnings

Blogging Tips for Affiliate Marketers Who Want to Maximize their Earnings

Do you have a blog that is not generating the cash-flow you were expecting when firstly started?

Would you like to squeeze the maximum out of your blogging efforts through affiliate marketing?

You are not the only one struggling; everybody started from scratch, mostly with no advantage over the others; today I want to share with you 3 blogging tips anyone can implement to add more cash in their pocket, sooner than you might think.

Regardless of using WordPress, Blogger, TypePad or other blog platform I am positive that if you try these methods you will see significant results in less than a week.

What you should expect once you take action after reading today’s article:

  • Increase your click through rate
  • Expect to get more affiliate sales
  • Grow your readership as a natural way of recommending good products

The key is to get the maximum out of your affiliate blogging efforts and never leave money on the table, never.

Affiliate Blogging Tip #1

Write a compelling product review – focus on the reader – and avoid the temptation of talking “good things only” just to get the sale.

Let’s set something straight. A blogger’s mission is not to close the sale [that’s vendor’s objective]. Your main goal as an affiliate marketer is to lead the buyer making a smart decision [buy the product you’re recommending]

Focus on the reader – talk about what he wants to hear and more – speak the naked truth – which sometimes might hurt. Emphasize the good, the bad and the ugly about the product you’re showcasing.

If there’s something you dislike, tell it as it is. Explain your argument with solid facts, proof and testimonials.

Exposing the negative side of a product usually plays a more important role than its positive side particularly since people know that you get paid for affiliate recommendations.

It’s unusual for an affiliate marketer to put his commissions at risk by exposing negative facts about specific products and vendors, and that’s why most people would appreciate your honesty and give you a white ball.

As a result you’ll get more clicks, generating more sales.

How often should you post product reviews?

Here’s a general rule – send 80% content and 20% promos. That means for every 3 or 4 posts, you should follow up with an affiliate product review.

Affiliate Blogging Tip #2

List building

It’s so sad that most bloggers and affiliates are not using AWEBER or a similar dedicated autoresponder to build a list – a true asset that makes money, in good and bad economic times.

Here are just a few ideas anyone can use to build their list:

  • A free “blog updates” list
  • A “product of the month” review list
  • A free “PDF report” offer list
  • Or, a combination of these!

Why should you care about list building when blogging since you can do OK anyway?

Because your readers like to interact with you, not only through your blog, but via e-mail too. They’d love receiving short e-mails with additional tips, tricks and resources related to their favorite topics.

Content is king and building trust is key. When you recognize this, you understand that not building a list and not sending content regularly equals “blog business” suicide.

Affiliate Blogging Tip #3

Maximize your earning potential

Most bloggers would focus on getting advertisers to place sponsored ads on their blogs and make peanuts; others monetize their content with contextual advertising links, ClickBank, CJ, and AdSense related programs.

As an affiliate blogger you know how important it is to make the most of your efforts so why leave money on the table?

  • Promote AMAZON books, CDs, DVDs and other related offers

Want to know the most exciting part of their affiliate program?

Once people click, whether they buy the thing you linked to or not – you get commissions.

The most exciting way to promote Amazon is by writing compelling book reviews. I like how Daniel Scocco does it here –  “Crush It” review.

  • Use AdSense banners ads in your blog’s sidebar; blend-in text links through your blog posts content and constantly test your click through rates.
  • Monetize your Twitter account

There are some networks paying you for using Twitter with sponsored messages. Due diligence is required. I did not personally test this method but there are other bloggers claiming it works.

How much could you make? Only you can attest that.

There you have it. 3 blogging tips to add more cash in your pocket. No tricks involved.

It’s your turn to comment now.

Is your blog fully monetized? What’s your next move in order to bump your affiliate commissions and jolt your blog earnings?

Great tips. Apply these tips to my current blog. It can easily be seen in the number of comments a post gets. Thanks from brazil.
  2. C.A. Simmons says:
I guess all that is left for me to do is increase how much content I put out and get more traffic. Based on your tips I think I have my monetization bases covered. Now to go create great content and build my readership. The problem with being a designer by profession is I always feel like there's just one more thing to tweak before diving into the content writing. Mostly just excuses to not write but I think I'm confident enough to put Dreamweaver and Photoshop away and focus on content for at least the next 30 days. Wish I had someone to hold me accountable to this but I'll do my best.
  3. Jason Jumat says:
I agree with tip no 1. It's gives your website more value by separating yourself from the ordinary websites that are just full of promotion and hype, to give more informative information to the readers of your blog/ website and about the product you are promoting.
  4. chandan says:
I do not sell any affiliate products on my blog. I do not think that it is easy to sell affiliate products, it is hard to get click on adsense ads and it is even more hard to sell affiliate products. .-= chandan@work at home jobs´s last blog ..Make money blogging take time =-.
    • Faiz Suberi says:
Yes it is kind of hard, especially when you've just started out and still working to expose, index and rank your weblog to get traffic. I think the best thing you can do now is to concentrate on posting unique high quality content (your own expert opinion or a great 'how-to' tip) and constantly look for ways to build more and more targeted web traffic. Good luck man. .-= Faiz Suberi´s last blog ..Social Bookmarking: Why it's Such a BIG Deal and How to Get Started =-.
    • Codrut Turcanu says:
I find it hard too when I started back in 1999. I had no clue what clickthrough was, or why I only have to advertise just a few select products - not to mention - I had to attract a minimum 100 clicks to my affiliate link in order to get paid. What I recommend is to make your first dollar online, then use the same strategy - multiply your effort - leverage other people. Making money online is a sports game - you can't do it alone.
    • Karan Singhal says:
The key to selling affiliate products on a blog is being trustworthy and having a strong personal brand. If you're known as someone posting a lot of good content on their blog, then people will want to read your product reviews. .-= NEW from Karan Singhal @ Trafficke Website Optimization Consulting Firm´s last blog ..Is Twitter Truly Powerful? =-.

What do you mean with your affirmation? How are we going to support our work? Shouldn't we eat too? Should all businesses go for non profit? :)
    • Simon says:
There has to be something to aim for. Even if you think that people should aim to produce high quality content which is good for readers, in the back of your mind, you know that this means getting more traffic and therefore an opportunity to get more. It may not have to be your main aim, but no matter what, it will be sitting in your mind, which means it is an ultimate aim, which will help you reach your others.
    • Karan Singhal says:
I strongly disagree. Bloggers can and should make money. Although there are people who blog just to share information about their life, on the other side of the spectrum are the businesses who aim to use their blog to earn money. .-= NEW from Karan Singhal @ Trafficke Website Optimization Consulting Firm´s last blog ..What Is SMO? =-.
  6. Chadrack says:
I see that more and more bloggers are coming to terms with the fact you just need to treat your blog as a business. Monetizing your traffic with product reviews as an affiliate is definitely something that any blogger who wants to make money from his/her blog must focus on. On building a list, a free report is one powerful way of doing that. I just did a series on free reports as a way of building your list. Thanks for such simple but powerful tips!
    • Codrut Turcanu says:
You not only need to treat your blog as a business, but you shouldn't start a blog if you don't have a business yet, or create your game plan, then start a blog. 98% of the wannabe bloggers out there are clueless how to start, not to mention, what niche to get into. It's like they're in the first grade with dreams to get in high school overnight - which won't happen yet mostly fantasize about it!
      • Karan Singhal says:
I'm thinking the same thing. Although some blogs are just blogs, blogs are mainly there to support businesses. Everything should be planned before you start your blog. .-= NEW from Karan Singhal @ Trafficke Website Optimization Consulting Firm´s last blog ..Is Twitter Truly Powerful? =-.
  7. Dennis Edell says:
1 every 3-4 posts? That's possibly 2 per week if you're a daily poster. Unless you run an all affiliate marketing blog where readers may expect it, I'd say that's a bit much, no? .-= Dennis Edell @ Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! And a Bonus for YOU!! =-.
  8. Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
There are definitely some useful tips here. One thing I don't agree on is to write too many affiliate marketing promotional posts just to make more money. Of course it does depend on what you write about. You yourself write about affiliate marketing so that might be more appropriate to you. But I don't feel like I should write any reviews of books on my blog. I have created a separate section for my short book reviews and only on books that are related to my niche .-= Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..What Traveling through Scotland Taught Me about Blogging =-.
    • Codrut Turcanu says:
I promote affiliate products ONLY when I find it adds value and helps the reader/client regardless if it meets my post frequency schedule, or not. I'm not doing it for the quick buck excitement... nor because I see others doing it. Reputation is more important than anything else.
  9. Andrew says:
One thing I would add about product reviews (which I think you imply), is only promote products that you have actually used. Don't try and write a review on a product you have never used - it will certainly come across as fake. 11. Helmi Asyraf says:
Thank you for the tips! I was actually using Aweber for my site but the outcome was not as what I expected. So , I cancelled my account. Do you think it is the right decision? I do agree with you on "our main goal as an affiliate marketer is to lead the buyer making a smart decision". By having this mentality in mind, we can keep our blog relevant and interesting to visit and read. I believe the readers will know if we simply make the blog post solely to make more money out of our blog or to help our readers making decision. It is because our intention and mentality can change the style and tone of our writing without we realise it. Unfortunately, most of our readers do.
    • Andrew says:

    • Codrut Turcanu says:
My online income comes as a direct and indirect results from list building via AWeber, so is it worth it or not? :) P.S. When promoting an affiliate product, start with the end in mind - does it solve your reader most burning problems, wants and needs? If not, then look for one which will!
    • Alex Cercel says:
Helmi, You're right, they know when you simply post to get some more content or when you're actually providing info. It can easily be seen in the number of comments a post gets. Thanks, Alex

Exactly, these are the kind of tips that folks think it's too good to be true, or they think this works in theory only. I recommend you try it, if it not works, at least you know why. Success is a matter of trial and error.

Why don't you take the easier route? Apply these tips to your current site/blog. A new site usually has no readers/traffic, so you'd be crazy not to use what you just learned on what you're already working on, right? :)

Awesome tips, I especially like doing the product reviews and building your list. I recently got myself an Aweber account, and I thought it was useless, because I didn't really know what to do with it. Turns out it's more useful than I thought ! Although I have to increase my traffic before I monetize my blog, it's well on the way !
