66 Awesome Social Media Quotes

Social Media Quotes

Me, My Quotes and I

To say that I’m a huge fan of quotes is a massive understatement. But then again, who isn’t? I’m willing to bet that 8 (5 is too little, 6 doesn’t sound right and 7 is too popular) out of 10 offices have either a framed poster, a paper weight, a mantle piece, or a desk plaque with some kind of famous motivational (or other) saying on it. Am I right or am I right? Hell, I’ll even admit to it. I’ve got a stone paper weight in the shape of a baseball that says something or other about courage and stealing home (Ooops, I thought I had it memorized).

WARNING: Long post but an easy read! You can still turn back now, but you’ll be missing out on some kick-ass quotes (and a few silly rants & ramblings)!

More Rambling About Me, My Quotes and I

Using quotes has become my signature – kinda. I tend to include at least one that’s relevant in every content writing project I take on. No matter the topic or industry – there’s always one that fits just perfectly! I even wrote a book of my personal favorite quotes a few years back, but never got around to publishing it. Wait…let me rephrase that. I wrote the book but I was too lazy to see it through so now it’s sitting on my desktop as a pdf. document.

My quote addiction – although not as strong as my TV or cigarette one – is rather evident on my blog (another one of my addictions). I’ve got a daily quote on the top of my page, which I actually choose and change myself on regular basis (yes, yes I know it’s time consuming and that there are ways to automatically update daily quotes – but I like picking my own according to my moods). I also have this really neat Social Web Words widget by Gary Hayes that displays 1000 randomized “Quotes of the Decade” on Social Media, Internet Marketing, Tech and so forth.

Okay, enough of me blabbing about me, my blog, my quotes and I. Moving along…

Wherever You Go, Social Media Will Follow

Let’s face it folks – Social Media is everywhere today. People talk the “Social Media tongue” without even knowing it at times. Everywhere you go you hear stuff like:

  • “I’m totally gonna’ tag you, this is sooo Facebook material.” (F#$!@, please don’t!)
  • “Do you have a group on Facebook?” (Uhh, not a personal one, no. But nittyGriddy does!)
  • “OMG, I’m tweeting what you just said.” (Really? Why? Who’s following you?)
  • “Are you going to the Tweetup on Friday?” (Are you?)
  • “Find me on Foursquare.” (I’d much rather you BBM, SMS or WhatsApp me where you are.)
  • “Check out my MySpace page.” (MySpace what, who?!)
  • “You should really upload our karaoke night on YouTube.” (Do I look like another Justin Bieber wonder to you?)
  • “Is your resume on LinkedIn or do you have to email it to me?” (What’s wrong with email? Are people not using that medium anymore? But actually, yes, part of my resume is on LinkedIn!)
  • “Do you diss people on your blog?” (Another common misconception that all blogs are about people and personal crap! Have you read my blog? Does it look like I talk about my friends’ personal drama(s) on it?)

If I had a penny (make it a dollar) for every time I heard things like these, I would be Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and Larry Page – COMBINED!

Wait! I’m Getting to the Point…and the Quotes

My point is, whether you like it or not, it is without a doubt that Social Media has revolutionized the way we think, share information, build brands and connections.

Like any other industry, Social Media has its fair share of quotes and tips by highly regarded people. In an effort to keep you from endlessly scrolling down the page, I’ve limited this nice but not-so-little compilation of quotes to 66 (as if that’s not gonna’ have you scrolling as it is!). I know there are many more, so go ahead and go wild. That’s what the comments section is for!

Happy reading :)!

*Note: The following quotes are in no particular order.

Do you have a favorite one on this list? What other Social Media quotes have you read, heard, or like? Oh, I’d also love to know if you’re  part of the 8 out 10 crowd – I am ;)!

  14. bryan says:
Ingrid, HAHA some of your quotes are funny like the 2nd one! I was actually laughing in front of the screen :D I still remember you did another post here on FB which was quite memorable too on social media. I think it was to do with what you can't stand about bad habits on social media if my memory serves me right. I think quotes are great. I really love quotes and I think quotes that stick are those that are not too long or those that can make an impact on what you are doing now. Quotes that don't stick now does not mean it will never stick but will mean more to you later on. I think the general theme of your quotes basically show that traditional media no is no longer the sole driving force and a lot of businesses have to realize that. They cannot ignore twitter, facebook etc and expect things to go well.
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey Brian, Wow, what a great comment you left for me there :). Thank you. You had me scrolling all the way back up to #2 just to read it and laugh out loud again! And yes, your memory does serve you right (I'm impressed) my other post on FB was about the types of peeps to or not to follow on Twitter and why. Needless to say how I feel about quotes. I'm glad we agree on that. I feel quotes are sometimes the best way to express something that you just can't put into the right words yourself. They can have this powerful effect that will leave you thinking for some time. Very true about traditional media no longer being the only driving force today. I think more and more people/brands/companies are starting to realize the positive (depending on how they use SM) impact that Social Media can have. After all, it is people that make up any brand or company - it is people that are the backbone of any company's success - therefore it is essential that you listen (and reply or be engaging) to what they have to share. If that makes any sense to you lol. Maybe I should have used a quote to better express what I mean here hahaha. Thanks again for your great comment. Cheers
  15. Jasmine says:
Long list of quotes, I like quite a lot of them! Very interesting and some are quite funny! Haha.
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi Jasmine, Glad you liked the quotes :). Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Cheers
  16. Daniel Sharkov says:
Wow! A huge list there Ingrid. Have to say that there are a lot of great quotes included. I especially liked the first and the tenth. The first one is really straight forward, but many people lack the ability to "activate" their fans. Without building conversations and relationships all of the so called fans are pretty much useless. You need to make the first step by connecting with them and giving them a helpful hand if needed. Most will return the favour. That's how you do it in the blogging world. The tenth is self-explanatory - no need to dive deeper. Amazing article once again. Keep rocking! :)
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey Daniel, How are you today? Thanks a lot for your valuable words of wisdom. Very true indeed about fans being useless if you're not engaging with them. From what I've learned so far - in my little time in the blogosphere - people are willing to help and listen if you do the same. And I don't just mean it in the "you scratch my back and I scratch yours" type of thing. If people see that you are genuinely interested in them - then they will make the effort (most) to see whether the interest is at least mutual. I may not have the same interests as all my followers, but I'm certainly appreciative of them and do show them (even with a simple reply) that I am when they share something of mine. My best example is that I make the effort to reply to every single person that writes a comment on one of my posts - as you can obviously see here. I see it as common sense but more so as respect. Anyways that's my 2 cents on that :). Thank you for your kind and supportive words. I'm happy you liked the article. I look forward to your next post :). Cheers

Heya Ingrid, Pretty good here, seems like it's going to be a nice day. A bit cold though. Ha-ha! Great reply here. I agree 100% that the “you scratch my back and I scratch yours” is wrong. One should not be doing a favour of any kind, just because he's expecting something in return. Even saying it sounds kinda dumb. One should be helping for the sake of helping and not to get something in return. What you sometimes get back is just an additional bonus for the efforts, but still not a main goal. And replying to comments is something that might not seem like too much, but in fact it plays an important role for the ones commenting. Or at least it does for me. I just don't like commenting on places where no one replies, since it seems like I'm talking to myself. Don't know, maybe it's just me, but it is a nice feeling when you get a reply. Have a great day! :)
        • Ingrid Abboud says:
Spot on Daniel! I'm not looking for anything in return but let's be honest - it's great when you do get something. And like you said - it's simply an additional bonus but not the main goal - at least not for me and obviously by your words - not for you either :). Getting comments and being recognized is a great feeling :). If someone takes the time to write a comment on your post (even if it's the little drive by's like "great post") I will make the effort to reply with an adequate response. If it's just a "great post" type of thing - then obviously my reply will be short and appreciative. But if someone has taken even more time and written something more useful or thorough then I will obviously put more effort in my response. That's just what I think anyways. Thanks for your follow-up comment. Your engagement is much appreciated. Cheers

Wow I found many great quotes I had never heard. You also sent me looking at a few people along the way. This is the first time readying a post from you and I find you style of writing very entertaining. While yes you did go on about a few things it was still entertaining and engaging. You can ramble on when ever you want. it seems to work for you.
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi John, I'm thrilled you found some quotes to your liking on there. There are many excellent ones, if not all. It seems they also came in handy in pointing you in the direction of some new and insightful people to follow :). That's a huge plus - lots to learn from all of them. Thank you for your kind compliment - I'm relieved that my rambling had a positive effect on you lol :). I do my best to keep it entertaining because I do tend to do it a lot! Great of you to comment. Will be looking forward to seeing you around my posts more often :). Cheers
  18. TJ McDowell says:
Great quotes from Godin - plenty of other names I recognize too. You could probably even make your book just breaking down these quotes. A couple of pages for each quote and you're at 120 pages which is a decent length for a book. Just a thought. BTW - again I love your writing style. I think it's no accident that you're good at writing on topics such as social media. You've got a conversational writing style that doesn't say "hey, I'm better than you are". I think the average person can relate to your writing style, get the information you're trying to communicate, and still have a few laughs along the way.
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
TJ, What can I say to a comment like that? Except for...Thank you, Thank you, Thank you - for your awesome, kind and ego-boosting words regarding my writing - I truly, honestly, sincerely...appreciate every single one of them! Writing is something I love to do - wait...NO! Writing is my passion and I don't think I can recall a day that went by in the last XX years, where I didn't write something or other! And I consider myself to be lucky to be able to work by doing just that! Everything you said just made my night and more ( I would say my day but it's almost 2 am where I am). I make it a point both on and off my blog to write the way I talk in my posts. I find it easier and more friendly to read and of course less monotonous. It's what I strive to do and I'm happy that I succeeded :). As for the book you mentioned (your thought) well...spot on :). Already started working on something like that actually - hopefully I won't be as lazy as the last few times :(. Ok enough about me! Godin does indeed have some fantastic quotes - heck, I think I could have filled all 66 with just him. But others also have wise and insightful words to share. You've got some really good ones on there. I was actually shooting for 100 instead of 66 but I didn't want readers to hate me lol! I'm glad you found them useful - at least I hope. Once again, thanks for your uplifting and supportive words! Hope you have a wonderful week. Cheers
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
TJ, I just came across this Tweet from @ Problogger - I'm copying his tweet word for word. I thought it may interest you or might want to check out. "Got a Photography Tip or Tutorial to Share with over 3.5 million readers? dPS is looking for guest writers - http://bit.ly/d9UlLh" Good luck if you decide to do it :).
      • TJ McDowell says:
Thanks for the lead!!! I'll have to think about it to see if I have something to submit! In response to the previous comment, yes, I definitely found this interesting. It's almost like an education on what social media really is all in one post. Keep writing - I'll keep reading =)
        • Ingrid Abboud says:
You're most welcome TJ! I'm sure you have great tips to submit! Speaking of which - I just read a really nice post on your blog - "Wedding Photography Tips To Get Amazing Images". You have quite the eye. Great tips! However, where are all the social media buttons on your site? I zoomed in (my sad play on words for you lol) and still couldn't find a Retweet button :(. Except for the primitive class I took in high school with an old manual Minolta (or maybe it was a Leica), I don't know much about professional photography (although my younger half-brother is quite the connoisseur and uses some super duper Nikon D300 or something like that - not sure exactly) but I am like a little paparazzi with my pocket-size (more like purse-size lol) digital cam. I love pics and I love taking them. They are the things I treasure most and my greatest souvenirs! Anyways, just thought I would share my somewhat useless 2 cents :).
          • TJ McDowell says:
You're probably right about adding a Retweet button. I don't do much with Twitter myself, but I guess that doesn't mean that my readers wouldn't like the button. Great suggestion. We use our pocket size camera all the time too. It's a lot easier to carry around than 10 pounds of gear =)
            • Ingrid Abboud says:
In a previous post you mentioned on here you mentioned in your comment that you weren't the biggest Twitter user and said if I recall properly "to each his own". And although that's very true - would be nice for us to be able to share some of your wonderful work with others :). Glad you approve of my suggestion. I'll be looking for it :)!
  19. Lennart Heleander says:
Hi Ingrid, (sound Swedish, I’m Swedish) Looooong and funny reading, many good quote to think about and try to use today and tomorrow in the SEO job.
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi Lennart, Yes, I get that a lot lol. My first name is indeed Scandinavian but my last name is Arabic. An interesting combination don't you think? lol :). I'm glad you enjoyed the post. Hope a few of them will come in handy for you! Thanks for commenting. Cheers
  20. The Bad Blogger says:
Great list but you miss out one, I believe beats them all and of course it is not written by me but by the late Gary Halbert also know as the "Prince of print" by many marketing gurus out there... well here's the quote, it is also my favorite of all... "Tomorrow Is Promise To Nobody" short and swift, but is so true to every single human that walks the face of the earth.....
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi Wong (yes, I did go and check out your site lol) And it's quite interesting indeed. Some good stuff you got there! Keep it up! Thank you for adding that powerful quote! I like it! Oddly enough, I wasn't familiar with it. I think I missed quite a few actually - since there are a myriad of other awesome one's floating around the web. But then again, that's what the comment section is for :). I'm counting on good folks like you to contribute more of them! Thanks a lot for your input. Cheers
  21. Richard says:
Great quotes. People says some funny things about social media. I like the one about linkln being for people you know, facebook for people you used to know, and twitter for people you want to know. Great stuff!
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey Richard, I actually like that one as well – very true in many ways. I’m glad you enjoyed the roundup :). Thanks for your comment. Cheers
  22. Vijayraj Reddy says:
The 14th quote about "customers unhappy" is 100% true. On internet with the help of blogs, social media, videos, etc.. people express their unhappiness of services or products which can end someone's business...
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi Vijayraj, I actually love that quote as well. As you said it's absolutely 100% true! And unfortunately many people/companies still don't realize the power of the social media realm. I've seen companies soar and others take a harsh beating just from comments posted and spreading on the web. Great point. Thanks a lot for your comment. Cheers
  23. Robert says:
Brilliant list, this must have taken sometime to put together, well done!
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Thanks a lot Robert. Glad you liked it. Indeed it did take a while to compile - but well worth it :)! Cheers

  25. Steve says:
What a great list! It shows awesome effort collecting all those great social media quotes. What an awesome post it made too! Thanks for sharing!

  27. Mike Pedersen says:
Ingrid, I'm a HUGE quote guy! I do 1-3 per day on Twitter and Facebook. I am mostly the motivation, success quote guy, as they are cool little "pick-me-ups" when you hear (or read them). This list you made is awesome. OMG! How long did it take you to put it together? I have "copied" some of them down, so you may see them on my Twitter or Facebook soon ;) Cheers, Mike
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Mike you are great - you're everywhere today lol I love it - Thank you :)! Quotes are wonderful. I know this sounds cliche but it's true - at least for me. I use them all the time and I love discovering new ones. I'm glad you liked this post and needless to say it took a hell of a long time to compile these as well as give each the proper merit/credit. There is a plethora of of excellent Social Media quotes out there but it's a just a matter of picking the one's you like most. Fantastic - I'll be looking forward to seeing some of these on your feed! Thanks for all your comments (everywhere) today ;)! You ROCK. Cheers
      • Mike Pedersen says:
Anything for you Ingrid ;) Have an awesome weekend! Cheers, Mike
        • Ingrid Abboud says:
lol Thank you :)! Always a nice thing to hear! You too - enjoy your weekend. Ciao
  28. Isabel Rodrigues - Pro Blogger Journey says:
Good job Ingrid. Your effort shows here. It is quiet a research and a good long list.
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hi Isabel, Thank you very much. Yes, it did indeed take some time to gather all these - but it was worth it! Thanks for your comment :). Cheers
  29. Patricia says:
Hi Ingrid I don't use quotes on my blog but enjoy reading them on the blogs I visit. Great list and I've seen some of these used on different blog posts. My favourite....Number 10 cos I love writing content and then having a conversation about it with my readers. I'll have to bookmark this post and see how I can work some into my posts. Thanks for sharing them with us. Patricia Perth Australia
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey Patricia, I'm happy you liked the list and I sure hope some of these come in handy for you when writing your posts. #10 is short, simple and says it all! And very true - quotes are a good way to strike up a conversation with readers. People tend to have their own way of interpreting them. There are tons more of these floating around the blogosphere, but I narrowed mine to this list of 66 (pretty extensive as it is). Best of luck Thanks for taking the time to comment Cheers
  30. Gera says:
As a social media addict I can say Ingrid that is literally an awesome recap! I use quotes in my daily life as I speak so understand you; they are superb! I’ll include this post in my weekly roundup of next week :) Have a great weekend, Gera
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey Gera - how are you? I'm really glad you liked these :). Like I said, I rely a lot on quotes and like you, I use them often in daily life. Others can often express what you mean or want to say in a better way. I'm psyched that you plan on adding my post in your weekly roundup - thank you, that's great! I'll be looking forward to seeing the rest of your selection as well - I'm sure you'll have some great posts for us to read and learn from. Hope you have a wonderful weekend as well. Cheers
      • Gera says:
Good research and post, hours of "social" work to end it! Keep up Ingrid :) All the best, Gera
  31. Talkblogger says:
Lolz some of them are really hillarious.. How did you collect all of em? phew..
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Haha, Yeah, I know... it's just a tad long :). I collected this list by doing endless hours of research going through a billion sites and another gazillion blogs, ebooks...and other! I hope you liked them at least. Cheers
      • Karan says:
Well I don't know about liking but I just loved it, ;)
        • Ingrid Abboud says:
That's awesome! Thanks Karan. My face = big smile :). Enjoy the weekend.
  32. element321 says:
Ingrid, Another great post :) Great list of social media quotes! Those quotes are ones to live by... you listed several that are my favorites from several blogs I read... T
    • Ingrid Abboud says:
Thank you so much James :)! Your support on both posts has been greatly appreciated. There are an infinite amount of Social Media related quotes that I came across while researching for this post - but I picked the one's I liked most - and indeed as you said - "they are ones to live by". Needless to say it took close to forever to do so lol. That and making sure the proper credit was given to each person. I'm glad I hit a few of your favorites. Any one in particular? Hope you're having an awesome Friday. Cheers
      • element321 says:
Its hard to say they are all great, I will list a few... 2. I hear YouTube, Twitter and Facebook are merging to form a super Social Media site – YouTwitFace. Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show (June 2009) - Not necessarily my favorite but it makes me laugh! 4. Quit counting fans, followers and blog subscribers like bottle caps. Think, instead, about what you’re hoping to achieve with and through the community that actually cares about what you’re doing. Amber Naslund, brasstackthinking.com 19. Social Media is about the people! Not about your business. Provide for the people and the people will provide for you. Matt Goulart, webstarcontent.com 32. Please Repeat: Influence is NOT Popularity! Brian Solis, briansolis.com There just to many to list... but these are good start.
        • Ingrid Abboud says:
Hey James, Good choices. Thanks for sharing them. I really like #2 and #4 as well. The other two are equally good but I have a couple other favorites. #54 and #66 - I think are quite creative and very true. I won't list them all cause then I'd just be writing this post all over again lol . You have yourself a great weekend.
