Today I am going to do the weekly round up as it’s again Tuesday. All the articles presented here were submitted to MMO social network. In today’s post, we are going to look at the latest SEO articles, and try to have some debate!

So… Here is What I found For You On MMO Social Network today

SEO Articles

  1. 10 Firefox Addons to Help Affiliate Marketers
  2. Why to Use Long Tail Keywords
  3. Website Speed Impacts Google Rankings: 12 Free Tools Check Site Speed
  4. SEO – 20 Ways to Build Backlinks

  6. Your No Fluff Guide to Better Title Tag Optimization
  7. Keyword Search Tools: The Key to Open the Floodgates to Web Traffic
  8. My 3 Killer Methods to Build Massive Backlinks
  9. 3 SEO Marketing Tips
  10. Site Speed: An Important SEO Ranking Factor?

Have you read any of these posts? I think all of them are great.

Is Site Speed Crucial?

As mentioned in two of the articles above site speed seems to be a new factor for calculating your search engine ranking. I would like to have a debate about it. Matt Cutts mentioned in an article that site speed would only account to a 1% change in your SERPs. Do you thinks it’s important to optimize your site speed?

I’d like to believe that it is indeed important but not solely from an SEO point of view. I try to do the best to speed up my blog and at the moment I am actually having troubles with my hosting provider so I am thinking of switching. What do you think?

  1. Antti Kokkonen says:
Site speed is very important, even if it wouldn't be any kind of SEO factor. Although, speeding up WordPress is much simpler than on the post you linked, no offense, as the info is mostly correct, but for an average WP blogger a lot of that is pure Greek, and before things like hacking into Db and PHP 90% of speeding can be done with plugins and easier methods. Check out my series for WordPress Speed Challenge to see how it's done with relative ease (full guide to W3 Total Cache, htaccess rules, image optimization and Db optimization). As for hosting, most shared hosting providers just aren't made for WordPress, even that they won't admit it. On the other hand, blog can be very fast and very stable on (good) shared hosting, just take my blog for example - load time at 1-2s and uptime is close to 99% in the long run. For full stability (and scalability) however, one would need cloud hosting - even virtual private or dedicated server is not as reliable.

Speed of Site is Important for the Readers, you need to have a speed loading site otherwise first time visitor will leave your site. .-= NEW from Agent Deepak@Blogging. Marketing & Success´s last blog ..Interview with Lee Ka Hoong of My Blog 2 Day =-.
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Yeah I agree. Your web site has to be fast enough that's why I am thinking of switching web hosts.

Wow. Thanks for the mention and considering my post as one of the best on MMO Network. That's a huge compliment and I'll take it, lol. Off to read the others. .-= NEW from DiTesco´s last blog ..Five Elements In Deciding On A Blog Theme =-.

  6. Ileane says:
Hi Julius, thanks for adding my post to the list. I'll take a look at the others that I missed earlier. I like "talking" more about SEO than actually doing it. I find it so boring, but some tools can make it more interesting. The key is finding balance and like Hesham and DiTesco said, don't let it make you crazy. The SEO Site Tools extension for Chrome includes links to Page Load Speed Test and External Anchor Text tool, so at least you have more tools in one place. .-= NEW from Ileane @ Blogging´s last blog ..Take Control of Your YouTube Activity Settings =-.
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Yeah but I guess that's the case with everyone. Most of us talk about these topics yet we don't necessarily do every of these things ourselves. I agree with Hesham and DiTesco, it's about finding a balance. Thanks Ileane! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.
  7. Bogdan says:
I was looking for some new tools to check a site's speed, going to read the post. As for the "ways to build backlinks", I'm kinda tired of those, all look the same. :) Thanks for sharing
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Yes I agree most of the ways to build backlinks are kind of lame. I still found that the one about Killer Methods to Build Backlinks presents a new idea for building links. Be sure to check it out. Thanks! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.

I've used shared hosting through Hostgator for years. I haven't had any issues with site speed...that I know about. .-= NEW from Dennis Edell @ Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..UPDATED: @DennisEdell It Is! TWEET TWEET!! =-.
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Yeah I guess Hostgator is pretty good. My web host isn't bad but sometimes my web site is just so slow. I am glad that you are happy with your web host :) Thanks Dennis! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.

How many domains are you hosting and which hosting plan are you using? I am seriously considering to switch hosts! Btw. would you care to tell me how many visitors you get per month just so I could compare it to my blog?! Thanks man! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.
          • Dennis Edell says:
I'm actually on the reseller plan; not recommended for everyone. I'll answer more in my reply to your email; sorry I haven't yet. I'll have to check my stats for the second answer....I'm bad and don't do that often. lol .-= NEW from Dennis Edell @ Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..Blog Subscriptions – Methods to my Madness part 2 of 2 =-.

alright thanks man! Ill take a look at my emails then :P
  9. jackson says:
Changing your host for more site speed won't make a difference because 80-90% of what slows down a website happens at the frontend i.e. between the web server and the browser and only 10% on the backend (web server) - so for maximum speed you need to focus on frontend optimization e.g. reducing http requests, reduce webpage size. You can do this yourself, if you're that way inclined or you can use some software to carry out these optimizations for you automatically. If your hosting is shared you could try some of the wordpress plugins that are available, if you pockets are deep and you're on dedicated you could try Aptimize, they're the best but not cheap. Hope this helps.
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
Interesting thought! Yeah I have done most of these things or at least I have tried to. I have been minimizing the number of images for my blog layout and lots of other things such as moving Javascript down in the footer. I have taken a look at Aptimize but yes it seems pretty expensive to me. They don't even have prices for the product on their web site :P Thanks for the comment! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.
  10. Shirley says:
Great links, Julius. Now, I think with all that I've got a whole lot to learn about SEO :). And coincidentally I'm reading SEO Warrior from O'Reilly Media now, hehe funny :D. Thanks for sharing these great resources, Julius :). .-= NEW from Shirley´s last blog ..An Ultimate Guide To Getting And Making Use Of Traffic From StumbleUpon =-.
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
:) There is so much to learn about SEO it's pretty incredible. I don't think I am really good at SEO after blogging for almost 2 years. Yeah what a coincident, is the book good though? I thought of reading a book on SEO. Thanks Shirley! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.
  11. Kristi Hines says:
I think site speed should factor into every webmaster's considerations when building a site, more for their visitors than SERPs. Because you could bring in traffic all day from search engines, but if visitors get annoyed by the loading time of your site, they will move on quickly, which will increase your bounce rate. People won't link back to your site if they don't like it, which will hurt your chances of building backlinks and raising SERPs. So indirectly, it will hurt your page and ultimately rankings if your site is slow. .-= NEW from Kristi Hines´s last blog ..Latest WordPress Hack – Symptoms, Solutions & Resources =-.
    • Hesham says:
Good explanation... I think site speed is important for any website in general for better user experience, but from Matt's post you really don't feel the direct effect of site speed, which makes me feel it's kind of less important, and by looking into big sites almost all of them are running on VSB or dedicated hosting! Dose it mean it's hard to be reach class "A" on a shared hosting?! (wondering) Also, I would like to add a quote from a comment by my friend DiTesco on his blog post about Site speed: "On the side on Matts post. This is common. He always undervalues every single ranking factor, so as to not make people crazy like they used to on PR" It's a little complicated, but all that makes sense now!
    • Julius Kuhn-Regnier says:
I agree. I think site speed is a lot more important because of your visitors but SEO wise it's not such a big deal. Thanks for the comment Kristi! .-= NEW from Julius Kuhn-Regnier´s last blog ..3 Essential Google Analytics Reports =-.
