8 Social Bookmarking Sites You May Not Have Heard Of

February 18, 2011 - Last Modified: April 1, 2014 by James Johnston 4,666

Social Bookmarking Sites

In the last few years, social media has taken off. If you aren’t using social media, some might look at you funny and ask why. Due to all of the success with social media, several people have created sites to help bloggers and niche communities by creating social booking sites. Since the creation of social bookmarking sites, there have been hundreds of sites created. Some of them became overnight successes, while others not so much.

With all the social bookmarking sites being created, how does one know which ones they should be using? For me, I generally try sites that fellow bloggers create or recommend. I test them out and if I like them, I stick with them. If not, I move on. If I come across a bookmarking site on my own, I generally read the articles and find out if the topics are related to what I write about, I also look to see how much traffic the site gets. If everything works out, I start testing the site for a few weeks to a month. If it works out, then I will write about it. If not, I no longer use the site.

Today, I decided, I would share my list of favorite social bookmarking sites with the readers of Famous Bloggers. I have listed eight sites in no particular order that have performed well for me or have the potential to be a success.

My Favorite Bookmarking Sites

1. BizSugar

bizsugar
BizSugar, make it easier to learn more about business

BizSugar is a social bookmarking site that was designed to make it easier to learn more about business. This site shares links to articles that cover topics in new business strategies, tactics, and news. If you are new to online business or even a small business owner, this site will help you find your way through building a successful business.

2. WPhits

wphits
WordPress only social bookmarking

WPhits is a new WordPress only social bookmarking site that recently went live and was created by Omer of WebTechWise. This bookmarking site was built on WordPress and not on the standard social bookmarking Pligg CMS module. The site was coded and designed by Omer. Since Omer is a designer, the site not only looks good, but the navigation is easy to follow. This site is still being worked on, and he is working to add more features. I look forward to using this site for all my WordPress needs.

3. Blog Engage

blogengage
Blog Community and Social Network

Blog Engage is the first social bookmarking site I ever joined. This site is what got me inspired to blog about new media, and I have met a lot of great bloggers such as Hesham and many others. This site brings me a lot of good traffic, but you have to spend a lot time voting and commenting on blogs that are part of the community. I stopped spending time here for a few months when life issue took over, and I didn’t have much time to marketing my sites. Because of that time off, I saw a good drop in traffic from here. But it’s starting to come back up, and I should be a top performer soon.

Blog Engage is a social network that allows you submit articles to their site. Each article you submit is promoted by the members, and if it’s a good article it will make it to the front  page. Interaction is key on this site. No interaction means no traffic for you articles.

Recently the owner, Brian, created a premium service that will automatically submit your articles to Blog Engage through your RSS feed. Once signed up, all you need to do is concentrate on engaging with other members.

4- Blog Interact

Blog Interact was established for a few purposes. It allows for bloggers, writers, photo and video journalists, and those that are simply interested in various blog and multi-media topics to come together, submit their favorite story, photos, videos, and more, and engage and “interact” with one another. It is a “user-friendly” social media network.

5. Make Money Online

Making money online social bookmarking site
Making money online social bookmarking site

MMO is a social bookmarking site that was created for the online business owner. You can find articles on almost anything that involves making money online, blogging, design, SEO, social media and WordPress.

6. DesignGizer

designgizer - design news bookmarks
Social bookmarking site that caters to the design community

DesignGizer is a social bookmarking site that caters to the design community. It’s a new site, but it gets a fair amount of traffic, and the site is growing daily. So, if you are designer, check it out and start submitting your articles today.

7. The Web Blend

Design News social bookmarking site
Design News social bookmarking site

The Web Blend is another design social bookmarking site. It is one of the more popular ones and receives a lot of new articles daily. This site is another site where you have to spend time on it if you want more than just a backlink. You have to spend time voting and commenting on articles that were submitted.

8. Design Float

Social bookmarking sites for designers
Social bookmarking sites for designers

Out of all the social bookmarking sites for designers, Design Float is one of my favorite sites. It doesn’t get as much traffic as The Web Blend gets, but I get a lot of traffic from Design Float. In fact, out of all of the social bookmarking sites I submit to, Design Float gives me the most referral traffic.

Final Thoughts

I submit my articles to a lot of different bookmarking sites. Of course, I do not submit to every site every time. I only submit certain articles to certain sites. I will submit articles to sites that I know  will do well on a site, but if that topic performs poorly on another, I will not submit it to them. Out of all the sites I am using or have used, the sites I have listed are my favorites, and they have given me the best results.

If you know of any social bookmarking sites that I did not mention that work for you, please share them with us.

Thanks for the post. Bookmark4you and speedtile could be the another one. They both offers dofollow links and can bring good number of traffic. From your list I love bloginteract. And wphits is no more available.
  2. Ganeshan Nadarajan says:

Hi James, Great list of social sites. I am using only Bizsugar and Blog Interact. I will try out the other social sites which you have listed. Thanks for Sharing this great list :)
  4. Rosaria Lucchesi says:
I've used The Web Blend and Design Float bookmarking site before and these site helps me got some visitors, not much but it's still useful.
  5. doug_eike says:
I have not figured out how to get repeat visitors from the traffic generated from the social bookmarking sites. Through them, I am able to generate initial traffic to an article, sometimes a lot of it, but once the flood of interest dies down, I see little increase in subscriptions or in permanent traffic. I still submit to those sites, but I don't consider it a central part of my growth plan. Thanks for your insights!
  6. raquel says:
some of the social bookmarking site that I found online are no follow, how should I know it is do follow blog?
    • Hesham says:
You can simply check the source code and discover it!
  7. Brian D. Hawkins says:
I know this is an older post James but just as an update it looks like a couple of these sites are not being updated. If I'm looking at it right, DesignGizer hasn't had a post published in the last 7 weeks and Make Money Online (MMO) in 8 weeks.
    • Hesham says:
Ah! It happened that I own both sites, lake of time my friend! I hope I can change all that soon!
      • Brian D. Hawkins says:
Oops. Sorry Hesham, I didn't know that. lol I know how it is, I have too many sites too. A couple of them haven't been updated in months.
        • Hesham says:
haha.. no worries my friend, I know you are suffering from same problem! I wish there were a straight solution, maybe if we have more than 2 hands it could be possible to do more work :)
  8. garry says:
lots of social bookmarking sites you can find over internet, which could become helpful in seo campaign, but what remains most important here , traffic should be increased
  9. Ruzanne says:
This is definitely SOMETHING that I NEED at this time! James, your wisdom and practicality drives you immediately to my topmost go-tos when it comes to learning more. Glad I found this site. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Meka says:
Great share. I was aware of some of these but one I had forgot about and then I found your article while searching for it. Thanks for the great list and helping find the site I was looking for.
  11. Argie Monroy says:
I guess the term for these are social blogmarking sites instead of bookmarking simply because blog posts are the main syndicated content in these sites. Nonetheless, this one's a great share. Thanks
  12. hyderalis says:
Thanks James, apart from blog engage & serpd not aware of any other social bookmarking sites. I've list of more than 1000 social bookmarking list but those are poor sites but the ones which you've shared are looking quality & traffic generating sites. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
  13. Gavin Davis says:
Thaks for sharing - great list - good to hear about different social bookmarking sites as opposed to the typical list which most people post
  14. Robert Bravery says:
There are so many new site coming out now days. The problem is we still only have 24 hours in a day. Too many things to do too little time. I just wish I had enough time to utilise these. I mean can you imagine how much time it would take to be active on any number of these social sites. I suppose to make it really work, we have to choose carefully and then go full steam ahead.
  15. Bican Valeriu says:
Great....I never heard about these (maybe only BlogEngage)
  16. Chris says:
excellent write up! i have never heard of any of those social bookmarks before. I just started social bookmarking not too long ago and it has a positive impact on my blogs. - its a great way to gain exposure and traffic to a new blog thanks for the post
  17. Virendra Singh says:

  18. Satrap says:
Wow, what a fantastic list James. I only know BlogEnage since I have been a member there for a long time. But, hadn't heard of any other sites you mentioned. I am particularly interested in the MMOsocialnetwork. Its right up my ally. Thanks.
  19. Codrut says:
I think most of your readers are aware of Blog Engage... I personally didn't hear about the others 8, but make money online site. I wonder about the quality of interaction inside these social communities, is the participation as intense as on Twitter or Facebook? :)
  20. Louis Gubitosi says:
    thanks for including TheWebBlend!
  21. Lynnea says:
James, I was unfamiliar with ALL of them. Most strike ma as hybrid article+ bookmarking sites. Thank you for the primer and this opportunity to make comment.
  22. uttoransen says:
I have definitely heard of all of them, but am only active on a few. Blogengage is cool, one of the best in your list. I have recently joined in bizsugar, mmo and serpd. Will try to get into the rest of the list soon.
  23. Mukundan Srinivasan says:
Wow Superb list. In this list I knew only bizsugar - that's where I saw this post. Have to reg and start bookmarking in these sites.
  24. Cosmin Stefan says:
This is the first time I have heard of any of them. Great find! SERPd and MMO are my favorites.
  25. Joe says:
Thanks for sharing. I haven't explored any of the above sites before. Thanks for the great info. JOE
  26. James - Intrahost says:
Thanks for sharing have you heard of Sprout Social? This is a Twitter application for finding relevant users online.
    • James Johnston says:
James, I have heard of them, but I haven't really looked much into them? Why?
  27. Mavis Nong says:
Hi James, Thanks for sharing these sites. I use a couple from your list. And I also use Blokube which I like very much :) All the best, Mavis
  28. Tuan says:
Thanks for the share, James. I love Blogengage and BizSugar, I tried others but they are not active communities for bloggers.
  29. Karen Marrow says:
James, I have actually never heard of any of these sites. I will definitely check them out and thank you for sharing!!! Blessings, Karen
  30. anuj says:
Thank you for this list … I am going to visit 3 or 4 of they really help full websites.
  31. Kevin says:
What a great list you have there! I personally use SERPD, Bizsugar and Blog Engage. I've never heard of WPhits before, must be new! The rest I've heard but never tried.
    • James Johnston says:
Kevin, Those that use are great communities. Hows your traffic on there? As for WPhits, its very new, less than two months old...
      • Kevin says:
My traffic is not strong yet because of the lack of blog post. But I do get visitors and comments from there.
  32. Iroko says:
Well, I have had of Blog Engage, but honest I was viewing as a social bookmarking site, I just vote up and maybe sometimes read the blog submitted...thanks for making this list available!
    • James Johnston says:
Iroko, Blog Engage is a lot more than just a bookmarking site. Its a community full of bloggers. Start engaging with them and you might see a lot more traffic and make some new connections on there.
  33. Kunal says:
I've heard about most of them but have not used them. But after this post I think I should give a try to some on them.
    • James Johnston says:
Kunal, If you are looking for traffic or find more blogs in your niche. I would look into these sites. Even you do not use these sites, there are plenty of other bookmarking sites out there that you can try out... Just remember to engage with the users of those sites you try out...
  34. fran Civile says:
Thank you for this list ... I am going to visit 3 or 4 of them and find some interesting blogs to interact with. Fran :)
    • James Johnston says:
Using bookmarking sites is a great way to find new and interesting blogs to read. This how I found Hesham and this blog. You just have to find ones that work best for you. Even if one of those is a smaller one, you can still find a lot of good information and you have better to engage with users of these sites then than those of larger sites.
  35. The Bad Blogger says:
Although, 7 of it I know, I was strange why the "MMO" never make it to the top ten social bookmarking list in google's top search results....
    • Hesham says:
By the way, the MMO social bookmark site was founded by me, and probably it's the newest on the list, it's only 1 year old site!
      • The Bad Blogger says:
Well... guess it's going to go up on the list soon enough.... with the audience in Famous Bloggers knowing it... LOL we gonna blast content to the site...
  36. Moosa Hemani says:
WOW! James this is great stuff i really appreciate this some of then like Biz Sugar and Make Money online were extremely new to me.
  37. Dennis Edell says:
Excellent James, a list type post I can actually do something with (rare); thanks! I'm especially interested in a few I haven't heard of before, like WPhits for example.
    • James Johnston says:
Your Welcome Dennis, Its nice to have resources that you can actually use in your field. WPhits a new site by Omer and has been live for about a month I think. He is still working the site to make it a better user experience.
  38. Daniel Snyder says:
Blog Interact is brand new, just launched in the last day or so... obviously a small place at the moment but showing potential. ZoomIt is a Canadian site so if you have Canadian content it is a good place to join and become a member of. Also Blokube is a favorite place of mine it is growing at a good rate. Worth checking out OldDogg too, though it is a big network and kind of similar to Digg (named for people who miss the Old Digg), I have had a hard time getting my article noticed at OldDogg. Thanks for the list, the only one I hadn't heard of was WPHits.
    • James Johnston says:
Thanks for mentioning those sites. I will have to look into those. I had totally forgotten about Blokube up till a few hours after this article went live. But that site is a great site as well. I do not use it very often though.
  39. Omer Greenwald says:
Hi James, I much appreciate the mention of my site. These are indeed great traffic builders for me as well. I often submit news to Blog engage and Design Gizer and get decent traffic from them. I will definitely check SERPd, it's the first site dedicated for SEO news I have heard of.
    • James Johnston says:
Your welcome, you have a great site and hopefully it will take off...
  40. Mike says:
SERP is still great, but I think if every content bookmarking owners out there use Pligg as their platform to build up the website, I don't think it does any good at all. Pligg has been focused too much on making money on the platform without innovating itself and is killing itself. So, just a side comment for this post -- I think if you want to become something in bookmarking website, you have to create your own platform and focus on it :)
  41. Mohammed Fouzan says:
These sites are new for me. SERPD it is awesome will give it a try
    • James Johnston says:
SERPD is a great site. I find a lot of good articles there. Lots of new SEO stuff to read their daily...
  42. Lennart Heleander says:
Hi James, My days have only 24 hours and it is already over booked. Thanks James for this list, I found several interesting sites, especially SERPd, then I love SEO.
  43. Alicia says:
Wow, great suggestions, James! As a small business owner, I will definitely check out Blog Engage and Biz Sugar. If the focus of my blog is not internet marketing related....does it make sense for me to bookmark to the other sites you mentioned in this article?
    • James Johnston says:
It depends, some of those sites have sections for non internet marketing. I would check those sites and decide if its right for you and your blog. If you plan to write any articles about those topics or you want to learn more, then bookmark those sites and check the articles out.
  44. Edwin says:
Great resource, I mostly know already off all the sites you posted. I need to do more networking on BlogEngage, brb :)
    • James Johnston says:
Edwin, If you are using Blog Engage to submit articles, you need to spend some time on Blog Engage. If you stop using for a short while, then when you start back up, you basically have to start over again. I try and spend two or three times a week there voting on articles and commenting on the articles.
  45. James Johnston says:
    Hesham, thanks for the article.
    • Hesham says:
You are welcome buddy, and thanks for putting these awesome sites together!
  46. Murlu says:
Been starting to use a few of these recently because hitting the front page of Digg is all but impossible depending on your niche; these smaller bookmarking sites are amazing because you're actually interacting with other bloggers which you're more likely to make an impact :D
    • Hesham says:
Digg turned to be a new bookmarking site, so it won't care for our niche unless a power user submitted it and spend the whole day pushing :)
      • James Johnston says:
Hesham, even after the site redesign, they aren't getting as much traffic as they use to. I agree with you about the niche thing, I haven't seen very many of our niche related stuff hitting the front page. When it does its by some of the big name bloggers.
        • Hesham says:
Redesigning has nothing to do with hitting the front page where the traffic is! I suggest we forget about it and focus on small and growing sites!
    • James Johnston says:
Murlu, I agree. I get a lot of my traffic from these smaller bookmarking sites. Most of them have decent PR and are DoFollow. As for Digg, I still submit to them and spend about 20 minutes once or twice a week digging stuff from those that are following me. I do get a little traffic from them, but stumbleupon gives more traffic.
  47. TJ McDowell says:
I think I tend to come across great sites based on recommendations from people I trust too. I'm skeptical about sites that I don't know anyone using yet. I guess that's a great lesson for us too. If we can gain the trust of one person, the message will spread a lot easier.
    • Hesham says:
Hey TJ, The design bookmarking sites will be a good place to share your photography tips and connect with other photographers who share same views!
    • James Johnston says:
TJ, I honestly think its the best way to find great sites. There are a lot of sites out there that are either junk or not being maintained. Sites like those will never help anyone, just waste our time. As Hesham mentioned, these design sites I mentioned will do great for photography articles. Tutorials and inspirational photography do really good on these sites. Just spend some time commenting on the photography articles and the design articles that you are interested in. You should get some traffic and new readers from these sites...
