Recession Proof – 10 Hot Careers [Infographic]

September 2, 2011 - Last Modified: September 2, 2011 by Tony Shin

10 Hot Careers

The US job market is tough. In fact, several of my friends who graduated with outstanding grades and prestigious degrees, are working $10/hr jobs at some random company. Strange, isn’t it?

It seems as though the recession is going to stick around for a while. With the US economy at one of its lowest points, those looking for jobs find themselves in a dead end, stressed out and quite fearful of the future and how they’ll have to put food on the table for their families.

This infographic from the Online Graduate Program team swoops right in and says, “Hey, calm down and take a breath.” These recession proof jobs seem a bit strange. However, as interesting and weird as they may sound, the stats seem to hold true.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Actually, when I clicked on the link leading to this post, I was expecting to see the likes of social marketers or social media specialists to be on this list, but I guess it's asking a bit too much. Nonetheless, I still see the dental hygienist and database administrator here, which I believe are two of the future careers with a high potential for growth and expansion in the near future. A pleasant surprise, if I may add, was the inclusion of performance makeup artists since I didn't expect them to be growing at such a rate.

After all this, blogger and online entrepreneur is still my #1 choice!

I thought work from home as freelancer, marketer or blogger will be in the list, since the trend of work from home for professional (engineer, pharmacist, software designer, etc...) are intact. Cheers, Ming

Thanks God I got a job online after a retrenchment from our company, and I earn more than working outside the home, no fares to pay, no need for extra money for snacks. No need to buy clothes, just sitting in front of a computer give you good income

I love infographs, especially in such a visual world, where getting people to read is becoming increasingly difficult. I find interesting that Performance Makeup Artist, Veterinarian and Skin Care Specialist are on the list because they tend to luxuries, such as pet care, physical appearance, and entertainment, which are the first domains to be sacrificed in a suffering economy, not booming. People cater to dire needs. I expected more jobs in alternative fuel research, solar energy, and recycling to increase. The extinct jobs are also fascinating. I would have loved to be a Lector. It would be interesting to see what jobs are booming internationally too.

Great choice of an Infographic, Tony! Anybody out there remember the "TV repairman" - there's another "lost art!"
  7. Hesham says:
mmm.. I don't see "blogger" in the infographic, just wondering if it is going to be a hot job ;)

I am sure "blogger" is the most popular "part-time" job for now.
