The Secret Sauce To Becoming Awesome
Everyone wants to be awesome!
Whether you’re reading this as a Writer, Blogger, Marketer, Entrepreneur, or Dentist; we want to be awesome at what we do. We want to become an awesome parent and an awesome friend, a person with awesome qualities and awesome ideas.
Most people aren’t awesome, though. They’re not awesome because they don’t believe it. Well, here’s the secret sauce… here’s the secret ingredient to becoming awesome:
Saying That You Are!
What’s This Guy Talking About?
Right about now you might be calling me an ego maniac. A guy who thinks far too much about himself, and I won’t lie, my ego has been known to get bloated at times. However, I also suffer with insecurities and doubt and that haunting feeling of failure.
Want to know why?
Because I’m human, That’s right, human beings have bad days. Days when we feel low and useless. This doesn’t stop you from being awesome, it just means you’re alive.
Congratulations, you’re not dead!
How To Become Awesome
I wrote this post on the back of reading You Are A Writer by Jeff Goins. It’s a marvellous book about becoming a writer, which I am, but I don’t write this post to help writers, after all, Jeff has that covered.
This post is aimed at anybody and everybody. I’m reaching out to marketers, inventors, bloggers, and business owners. I’m reaching out to you in the hope you’ll say three simple words…
I Am Awesome!
That’s it, that’s all it takes. How can you gain other people’s trust until you earn your own? How can you expect other people to believe in what you’re saying if you don’t believe it yourself?
My Story
I’ve recently undertaken a large shift in my life. I left my secure job to become my own man. I wanted to be a Strategic Marketer and full time Author.
Is this risky? Yep, it sure is
Am I crazy? Some will say so
Do I regret it? Not for a second
The reason for this? Because I’m Awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I have my days of doubt. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and feel sick. I wonder about when I’ll next get paid, if I’m talented enough, and if people will ever visit my website.
Dear God, all I want is to be liked!
But then I snap out of it. I look at my wall and read notes that say: “You’re Awesome”, You Are A Writer” and “You Did The Right Thing”
These little reminders keep me going. They remind me that I have a job to do, not because I have to, but because I chose this life. I left my job to be my own man. I choose to write. I choose to be a marketer. I do it for love, and this is very special.
The Biggest Fear Of All
When I was reading Jeff’s book, I came across a quote that struck a chord. It said, “Yes there is pain and rejection. But the greatest failure is to never risk at all.”
It just so happens this has been my biggest fear for years. I’m terrified of being 70 years old and looking back on the things I could have done. It’s why I travelled around Australia on my own at 19 years of age, why I’ve worked in America for 8 summers – despite it being financially pointless – and it’s why I’ve sky dived and bungee jumped and gone out with a girl even though I knew she was trouble.
I’m terrified of letting something not happen. Taking risk is terrifying, but the alternative is down right spine chilling.
This is why I’m Awesome. If I felt anything else, I’m not sure I could do what I do.
You Can Be Awesome Too
I read Jeff’s book at a good time. I was having a crappy few days and needed that boost of belief. All of a sudden I was awesome again, and you can too.
Maybe you’ve already made it. Maybe you’ve just begun or maybe you keep striking out. Whatever your situation, write down these three amazing words…
I Am Awesome
Tweet them or add them to your Blog, or if you like, keep them locked away so only you can see it. All that matters is what you think. Don’t care about me or the people who may or may not visit your website. You shouldn’t care if they think you’re awesome or not, for as long as you do, there’s a person who believes it.
This is enough to make good things great.
I’m not saying this will fix everything. You still need hard work and a little luck along the way. But you hold all the power in your bare hands.
Can you join the movement of Awesome?
Will you believe it and help make it happen?
I’d love to hear your own Awesome story below…
