3 Simple Tips to Sell Your Blog for Maximum Profit

Building a reputed blog or website is a lot of work. Once you get decent traffic for your blog, the decision of selling it is harder. But if you have lost the interest on the niche or if you are looking for more funds to invest on other big projects or if you are looking forward to buy another website sometimes you might need to sell your blog.

Recently I sold one of my blogs on Flippa and bought another one outside Flippa. In fact, I really love the idea of buying and selling websites.

Comparing to offline investments, online investment will have higher ROI (Return on Investment). That is why I am always interested in buying and selling online assets like websites or blogs.

So, if you are looking to sell your website for maximum profit, here are 3 simple tips to follow.

Tip #1. Make Sure your website makes money

This is really crucial. Most of the people try to sell away their blog whenever they get penalized by Google or whenever their traffic dries up.

If you are someone who got penalized by Google what I would suggest to you is to wait for some more time to build traffic and money before you jump to sell it.

If you have a nice amount of traffic, monetize the site to its maximum potential. Once you start getting a good amount of monthly income, keep the site live for at least 6-12 months.

If you’ve ever visited Flippa you might have noticed that AdSense publishers can show the verified AdSense revenue.  Most of the potential buyers rely on AdSense stats only because it is easy to fake the earnings screenshots, as most of the advertisement networks don’t provide verified revenue stats similar to AdSense.

However, the higher the earnings history you have for your website, the more money you can make when selling it.

Tip #2. Pitch the potential buyers

Listing your site on Flippa is a good move for getting maximum exposure for the website that you are about to sell. But as a seller, if you want to get maximum value for your website in return you should not remain passive by solely depending on Flippa listing, instead you should move a step forward and let the potential buyers know about your listing.

Find potential buyers on Flippa and warrior forums and let them know that you are selling your blog and ask if they would be interested in buying. You can ask the top bloggers in your niche also. Even if they would not be interested, chances are that they may know some people who would be interested in the acquisition.

If you are selling a site that makes more than $2000 per month, it is better to hire a broker to sell it, because they’ll have connections with a network of buyers and investment firms that an average web owner doesn’t have. They can help you sell your website for higher multiples than a listing site could.

Tip #3. Offer bonuses with your blog

Normally people reward bonuses like premium themes, plugins or free web hosting for a few months. This can be nice, but if you want to get the maximum out of selling your website, provide some amazing bonuses that a buyer can’t refuse.

For example, if you are a creator of any product like an ebook which you used to sell on the website you are about to sell, you can transfer the copyright/ownership of the product to the buyer along with your website so that the buyer will have exclusive rights to sell the product thereafter and make profit by selling it.

Final thoughts

Before making a sale you should have conducted a due diligence about the buyer. It is better to have some kind of trust between each other before directly proceeding to sale.

People used to ask me how much they could expect to sell for. My answer is, there is no such magic number. It all depends on the reputation of your blog. If your blog has a high reputation, you can sell it for about 24+ times of the monthly income. But if it is less reputed obviously your website will be valued less.

Bottom line: Before selling your website or blog, make it a highly reputed one.
